Like the look of Mana Khemia? Then keep an eye out for Mimana Iyar Chronicle. GungHo Works, the company that brought Ragnarok Online to the DS last month, is the developer.
Similar to Gust’s games Mimana Iyar Chronicle uses detailed sprite graphics and has anime cutscenes. Mimana Iyar Chronicle is a fantasy RPG too, but it’s story probably won’t be a fantasy epic. Kogado Studio, a company know for making bishojo games (girl’s games) is helping with the story.

Monster Farm Jump or Monster Rancher Hop-A-Bout, as it is known here, is not the highlight of the Monster Rancher series. Instead of creating charming monsters from CDs and raising them Monster Rancher Hop-A-Bout only hopping monster in a board game setting. Yeah? Well, I’m content with not getting that as a PlayStation Classic here.
Strangely enough Sony Computer Entertainment Japan is beginning to release Western developed games as downloadable PsOne games too. G-Police, a futuristic shooter, was developed by Psygnosis before they became Sony Computer Entertainment Liverpool. Pop ‘N Pop is also out this week which is sort of like Bust ‘A Move meets Space Invaders with Taito cameos. As a little diversion Pop ‘N Pop is pretty fun.
Here’s what’s out this week. Each game costs 600 yen ($7.50):
G-Police
Pop ‘N Pop
Monster Rancher Hop-A-Bout
Tantei Jinguji Saburo: The Unfinished Report

After two sagas of PlayStation 2 games Namco Bandai is taking the .hack series to the PSP with .hack//Link. By the title and character art alone this looks like it’s based on the manga of the same name. One thing for sure is the characters are the same. However, the Famitsu photo is too blurry to make out any critical details about the gameplay or the developer. Hey, maybe .hack//Link is CyberConnect2’s mysterious project. We’ll find out for sure on Friday.

Not just quests, free quests for the game’s online mode. Starting tomorrow players logging into the live mode get an update with a new area and a fetch quest. A soldier lost an item and you have to recover it from monster drops. The recommended Guild Rank for this quest is 36. Players that take the challenge will be rewarded with new items like a Demon Sword and a Demon Staff.

Capcom's Monster Hunter franchise is huge in Japan. Outside Japan? Not so huge. There must be reasons for that. There are, apparently.
One of the biggest reasons seems to be the game's ad hoc network play. For Monster Hunter, this type of play is so popular that friends often meet up just to play MH. Capcom's Keiji Inafune explains to Game Informer:
It’s important to bear in mind that the game wasn’t initially a success in Japan. When it first came out, it still had people playing together cooperatively, but it was based online in a much more limited way compared to PSP. When it moved to the PSP and you could have four people sitting around together to play on an ad hoc network, that’s when it really took off in Japan. So you’d get friends playing together and get people of different skill levels and experience levels helping each other out and interacting that way. This plays a big part in why it was so successful in Japan—it’s a game that takes a long time to find interesting. There’s quite a long ramp to get to the point where you’re actually into the game. If you’re playing with four other people in that way, you’re much more likely to hit that point than if you’re by yourself. For the U.S., really, we need to convey how fun it is to play to people and to get to the point where you find the game interesting. Probably playing on infrastructure mode isn’t really the way to do that, that’s my feeling. It’s about getting people together and having them go through this experience together.
Monster Hunter is obviously fun to play — however, we think the hard sell is going to be convincing Western gamers they need to play with a bunch of friends together in the same room to truly enjoy the experience. Though, it's possible. Anything is possible.
Well, not anything.

THQ has released a patch for the Create-A Superstar Mode for the PlayStation 3 version of WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2009, allowing players to better build up their custom creations.
Players will now be able to give their created Superstars increased attributes by playing through the game's Career Mode - or not. Players not wishing to repeat the process can simply enter in the code "MAXCAS" to receive the increased stats instead.
“The Create-a-Superstar feature has always been a very popular component of the WWE SmackDown vs. Raw franchise,” said Cory Ledesma, senior creative manager, THQ. “The new patch will give players more flexibility and greatly enhance their ability to fully customize multiple Created Superstars at the same time.”

The Resident Evil 5 demo is coming to the US -- this time officially -- and is "premiering exclusively" the week of January 26th on Xbox 360, so sayeth the Major. The demo features two levels that can be played either solo (with AI support) or with a buddy via split-screen or Xbox Live -- yeah, it's the same as the Japanese demo, unsurprisingly. No word on the release of a PlayStation 3 demo, but we've poked our Capcom contact and will let you know what we find out. In Japan, the PS3 demo is only available on a bonus disc.
Update: A Capcom press release clarifies that the Xbox Live demo will be released on Monday, January 26th and, for Gold subscribers, will be "available exclusively on Xbox 360 for one week" -- at which point the PSN version will be released (during the week of February 5th). In addition, the Resident Evil 5 TGS trailer will be available for download on Xbox Live beginning this Friday, January 16th.

Datel - makers of the Wii's Freeloader, amongst other things - were working on a third-party PSP battery that would have made it easier to hack the PSP-3000. That is, until Sony sued.
A notice to customers pre-ordering the device - called the Lite Blue Tool - apologises for the fact the product will now no longer be shipping as intended:
Due to legal action by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe we are currently not able to fulfil orders for the Lite Blue Tool Battery. Any orders received for this product have not been processed and no charges have been made. We will inform customers about availability of this product when this situation has been resolved.
Working around the Wii's region control, that's a noble pursuit. But this? This is just cheeky.

Easy. It's a phone. But hey, like I said, that's easy. For a more complicated answer, why don't we see what VP of iPod and iPhone product marketing Greg Joswiak has to say.
In a departure from some of the company's more boisterous, were-gonna-git-you-DS claims, Joswiak tells Edge that the DS and PSP are from the past. And the iPhone? You guessed it. It's from the future.
I think if you look at devices like the DS and the PSP, in a lot of ways, they’ve defined the past in handheld gaming, and I look at a product like the iPhone with the App Store, and I think it has the opportunity to redefine the future, from everything to how you acquire games – not to mention updating apps.
How do you update a cartridge? You can’t. But you can update the games here via the App Store and that’s an automatic process. Not to mention not having to carry around a bucketful of cartridges. You can store as many games as you have space for. Everything about the iPhone suggests where the future’s headed, and I think a lot of the other guys are trying to scramble for what they do in response.
He may be right! After all, the PSP is quietly moving to a digital distribution model for many of its games.
Then again, people don't appear to be holding off on purchasing a DS because of the back-breaking labour involved in carrying "a bucketful of cartridges" around.

The EA Store now has a listing for Command & Conquer Red Alert 3: Ultimate Edition for PS3. The publisher had previously announced that the PS3 version would utilize the "high-defness of Blu-ray" and now, comrades, we have a better idea of what that means.
The Ultimate Edition, which currently doesn't have a release date, features bloopers, new battleground maps, developer strategy videos and behind-the-scenes footage. The game's soundtrack will also be available, along with a "Unit Profiles video encyclopedia." The most titillating item on the disc is the "Girls of RA3" presented in full "HD Blu-ray with enhanced visuals." That's, like, twice the Blu-rays. Sadly, if the controls are anything like the Xbox 360 version, no amount of special videos will prevent you from begging for a keyboard and mouse.

Buck up, Sony. Sure, the PS3 might be taking on water in stormy seas and you're facing a fairly dramatic corporate shake-up, but at least you can take solace in the fact that you done real good with the PS2. Heck, you said so yourself today, announcing that 50 million of them have been sold in North America.
The future of last generation's best-performing console also looks bright, with new releases in the pipeline for 2009 -- and possibly beyond. Even SCEA's hardware marketing head, John Koller, said, "We don't intend on discarding the system anytime soon." (And with a return of backwards-compatibility on PS3 via software emulation still but a rumor, we don't imagine many PS2 owners will be discarding the system anytime soon, either.)

2009 marks year #9 for Sony's aging PlayStation 2. Although hardcore gaming enthusiasts have largely moved on to current generation consoles, the system is still "important" to Sony's business model. With 50 million units sold in North America, it's clear why Sony will continue supporting the platform. John Koller, director of hardware marketing at SCEA, told Gamasutra that "the only way to kill the PS2 business is to stop supporting it." Koller claims that 25% of software sales in 2008 were on Sony's last-gen system.
Publishers are unlikely to ignore the sizable PS2 audience, and Koller agrees. "With the lineup for 2009 and 2010, the PS2 is not going away anytime soon." A quick glance at the PS2 release list shows dozens of games planned for the year, although most are licensed movie and sports games. 2009 releases include titles like SingStar, Guitar Hero: Metallica, Ghostbusters, Madden and The Beatles.
Sony will undoubtedly want the success of PS2 to continue as long as possible. With PS3 systems still losing money on each unit sold, the "positive margins" of the PlayStation 2 will help the manufacturer's bottom line. With PS2 sales still going strong, Koller insists a price drop is not coming any time soon. "It's a significant financial contributor for us and it sells very well at $129.99. We're comfortable with the current price."

Once the PS3 is at a more affordable price point (we expect a cut to $299 in April), we think that sales of that device will once again begin to grow. We expect another cut in price for the Xbox 360, with the feature-laden Pro model likely to come down in price to $249 at or before this year's E3 show in June. We expect Nintendo to maintain Wii pricing at $249 until the company sees signs that demand is slowing, which means a price cut may not happen until late in the year, if at all," Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Michael Pachter said.

News from pegasus2000
As you know, I'm working on the next Nanodesktop 0.3.6 SDK and on
the next version of Blind Assistant software.
Nanodesktop is a SDK (Software Development Kit) that makes easier
the creation of applications for embedded devices as the PSP.
In the next 0.3.6 version, it'll be included the support for voice
recognition and for the receiving of mails from the POP3 servers.
In the meantime, we're working on the next, incredibile, core CFW005
of the Blind Assistant software.
In this version, the blind will be able to control the unit using his voice.
The new version of the program shall integrate a new engine for the
face recognition, a vocal client email and a color scanner.
Sir: this is the most complex homebrew ever created before
In this video, you can see the new Blind Assistant core in action:

At last week's 2009 CES, Sony announced that a GPS peripheral is slated to find its way to North American shores. The device has been available in Japan and Europe for a couple of years now, and it looks like Americans will finally get a chance to use the mapping device. Hopefully this has given the developers enough time to perfect software for the peripheral when it makes its American debut. Although no firm date or pricing has been revealed, the device is said to provide 2D and 3D location maps and driving directions via UMD. The promise of downloadable city guides will empower users with even more customization options. With the growing popularity of GPS devices, introducing this feature alongside the PSP's existing multimedia playback functionality may just well reposition it as the preeminent handheld.

Alek of the Dark Alex/Team M33 fame posted this:
Some months ago, the PSP Scene saw the "birth" of a developer, called "Miriam".
We all saw funny things about him, even one stupid comparision within it's name (sort of MIR = GOD, I am = I am, lolz!)
But the real thing comes now. You might have seen a recently exploit published on some french webpage, making themselves as their own creators, and so on.
Well, it would be interesting to call you to this post of Dark_AleX, where it's said:
---
This is about this.
http://www.pspgen.com/psp-3000-5-02h...te-184918.html
This is about how I trusted someone called "miriam" and I gave him a kernel exploit of C+D, which was found by joek (the ONLY ONE that deserves credit of that), just to play for HIMSELF, as it is being used to decrypt 3k modules, but the first thing he did was to show to others to get a bit of fame.
Now i realize not to trust anyone anymore, thanks.
---
I spoke with MaGiXieN last night, and well, i didn't knew this, but since this is what has happened, from dark-alex.org, thanks french "developers", thanks Miriam, or well, maybe i'd call you HellDashX, instead of Miriam, as it's your real identity.
You've deceived and lied to spanish, french, and other people, and the ones that have helped you even on that GEN lame copy cfw, as you couldn't even finish your own modules.
You don't have any right to use that exploit, as it isn't yours, as anything that you have claimed is yours. You won't get any more help from us. Period.

You have a Blackberry but no PS3 remote controller? Well, maybe then you like unify4life's solution, switching your Blackberry into a remote controler for BD/DVD aswell as a keypad for the PS3 internet browser. One negative point may be the price - $39.99. The addon will be available this april. So then you have the choice of getting an addon for your Blackberry or buy SONYs original equipment.
Here a video of the addon:

Atari has whipped out the calendar and circled February dates for Eternal Sonata PS3 and Family Ski & Snowboard.
The Japanese role-playing game will be with us on 13th February, which is well over a year after the Xbox 360 release. However, developer tri-Crescendo has used the extra time productively, adding new quests, battles and even multiple endings.
Pop over to our Eternal Sonata Xbox 360 review for an idea of what to expect.
Family Ski & Snowboard - Family Ski with snowboards - arrives slightly later on 27th February following its Japanese release in November.
This sporty Wii outing uses the balance board for control in conjunction with Wiimote and nunchuk. There's also Mii avatar support and multiplayer for four people on one console.
Ellie quite liked Family Ski, if only briefly, and the promise of more content and beefier features places the sequel somewhere on our 'what else can we do with our balance board' list.
