Assuming you're willing to brave Black Friday crowds, the PlayStation Blog hasdetailed two new PS4 bundles that should help you unwind over the holidays.
Both $399.99 bundles include 500 GB PS4s, with their differences lying in included games – the first offers a disc-based copy of Grand Theft Auto 5 and a download voucher for The Last Of Us: Remastered, while the second includes a physical copy of LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham and a voucher for LittleBigPlanet 3.
The PS Blog notes that both bundles won't be offered for long, so you might have to face that frenzied Black Friday horde if you'd like to pick up either version.

Heads up, PlayStation owners: Sony plans to bring the PlayStation Network down on Monday, November 17 to "deploy a series of back-end improvements to the network."
According to a notice on the PlayStation.blog, PSN will be unavailable for "approximately 6 hours" from 1PM to 7PM ET (that's 18:00GMT to 00:00GMT, Tuesday morning for our friends in Europe). The good news is that if you've logged into PSN at any time between November 13 and November 17, you'll still be able to play games online and use online apps like Netflix during this maintenance period. However, PlayStation Home, the PlayStation Store and your console's account management features will be unavailable.
This is where we cross our fingers and pray to the gods of tech support that nothing goes catastrophically wrong with these backend updates, as they come mere hours before the debut of a number of high-profile PlayStation 3 and PS4 games including Far Cry 4 and the re-release of Grand Theft Auto 5.

Sony's game-streaming service, PlayStation Now, has taken big leaps since beingintroduced earlier this year. However, the platform still lacks a bit when it comes to the amount, and quality, of content it offers access to. Starting next month, though, PlayStation Now is adding some big games to its library, thanks to a new deal from Sony and EA.Bejeweled 3, Dead Space 3, Mass Effect 2, Mirror's Edge and NBA Jam On Fire Edition are all coming to the service on December 2nd, which is great news for those of you with a PS3, PS4, PS Vita, PS TV or a compatible Sony TV. You'll be able to rent any one of these for as little as $1 per day, although there will be other pricing tiers available -- it depends on how long you'd like to keep them.

November 13th, 2014, 23:08 Posted By: wraggster
If you thought cramming a PlayStation into your TV with the cloud-based PS Now was crazy, Sony's now trying to do, well, the exact opposite, bringing broadcast TV (and a bigger dose of on-demand content) to the PS4, PS3 and, at a later date, even the iPad. Oh good, another subscription service, you might already be thinking. However, Sony has already signed up some major networks and players (Fox, CBS, Viacom and ABC, for starters) and a no-contract setup: you'll pay month by month -- like how you pay for Netflix. The tie-ups will also include the ability to record programs, as well as play selected on-demand content. More device support for both Sony and non-Sony hardware is set to roll out to the service in the future, although there's no specifics just yet on what that'll include -- likewise, pricing remains a mystery. Beta testers will see around 75 channels of content, including local networks, when tests start later this month, although there's one proviso: they have to live in NYC, before it rolls out to Chicago, Philadelphia and LA. For the rest of us, the entire service is set to go live in early 2015.

November 13th, 2014, 01:28 Posted By: wraggster
Sony is riding a wave of success at the moment.
Its latest hardware, the PlayStation 4, has surpassed one million units sold in its first nine months on sale in the UK, and has sold over 13m consoles worldwide. It’s comfortably outselling rivals Xbox One and Wii U. And next week the platform holder is bringing a new console to market. But this one is just a little bit different.
It’s a micro-console called PlayStation TV. The hardware originally launched in Japan
as the PlayStation Vita TV last November and sold 42,172 units in its first week, according to Media Create data.
“PlayStation TV is a brand new micro-console. I’d describe it as a bit of a Swiss Army Knife of a product, but predominantly its main feature is to stream your PlayStation 4 games to another room in the house,” PlayStation UK senior product manager Ben Law explains.
“Placing your PlayStation TV in a study or bedroom and letting you stream PlayStation 4 games via Remote Play is pretty cool.“
This functionality has informed the PlayStation TV’s branding. Gone is the ‘Vita’ present in the hardware’s name as it was in Japan.
“Sony announced this product originally just before Tokyo Game Show 2013, and it was released in Japan a few months prior to the launch of the PlayStation 4. Because they don’t have PlayStation Now or a similar streaming service they called it PS Vita TV,” PlayStation UK PR boss David Wilson explains.
“But we have a different take at this point in time because the PlayStation 4 is very well established and has done very well. So we see the device as more of an extension of the PlayStation 4. You can play Vita games, not every single Vita title because PlayStation TV doesn’t have the touch screen and back panel, but compatible games can play on it.
“It still has the functionality that was outlined in Japan, but the PlayStation Vita TV title was to reflect what the product meant in Japan when it launched. That’s the distinction.”
The ability to stream games from your PS4 to another screen is all well and good. But a PlayStation 4 is still setting consumers back £350, and the accompanying PlayStation TV costs £84.99. But Law is confident that core gamers will buy this.
“PlayStation TV is the perfect accompaniment for current PS4 owners, who have potentially owned the console for nearly 12 months,” he says. “PlayStation TV is the most cost-effective route of getting access to your PS4 games in another room in the house without having to change the set up in the main room.
“The device also offers a wider range of features on top of this functionality. We’ve already seen the impact on PS Vita when Remote Play functionality was added and we’ve seen from research consumers want this kind
of solution.”
The Remote Play functionality may be a big selling point, but PlayStation TV is actually a console in its own right.
“It does a lot of other stuff as well. In addition to that main feature, you can play compatible PlayStation Vita games on a television for the first time, which is a nice feature if you’re a big Vita fan as well,” says Law.
“And also using the PlayStation Store you have access to old PlayStation One and PSP titles and play those on a TV. It sets itself up as a micro-console as well as a streaming platform for the PlayStation 4. As you also have access to the PlayStation Store, you can use the video services through that. You can also play Vita games from a Memory Card.“
Indeed, it may not play high-end PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 games (yet) but it does play a range of top PlayStation titles.
And at the sub-£100 price point of £84.99, it has the potential to speak to a mass and younger market. Maybe even the same audience that picked up the Wii all those years ago.
“It definitely stacks up as entry-level hardware. It streams PlayStation 4 games, but you can also play games through the PlayStation Store,” Law says. “It could actually be someone’s entry into console gaming. And you also have movies, too.”

Hot on the heels of the PS4's 2.01 system update is - you guessed it - 2.02, available to download now. We've successfully nabbed and installed the firmware, but the patch notes currently offer little to report on what it's changed. According to Sony's support page, with 2.02 "system software stability during use of some features has been improved." Well, then.
2.02 is the second PS4 update within a week, so it seems likely that, like 2.01, it's designed to tackle some of the problems that arose after the major 2.00 update. 2.00 caused a variety of glitches for some users, such as the console not powering up from Rest Mode (as addressed by the 2.01 update). 2.00 has also got on badly with certain games, including the Evolve alpha and, as our review attested to, the upcoming Dragon Age: Inquisition.
Here's our Editor's Note from the review:
"The PlayStation 4 version of Dragon Age: Inquisition currently experiences severe crashing hourly, requiring consoles be unplugged and restarted. EA and Sonyhave told us this is due to the console's recent 2.0 firmware update. Joystiq has been informed this issue will be corrected in a day one patch. We were provided a console by Sony with an advance copy of the upcoming patch. Following that we experienced only one crash that went immediately to the dashboard. We will update this note on the game's launch day."http://www.joystiq.com/2014/11/11/playstation-4-firms-up-with-2-02-system-update-available-now/

When the not-exactly-small five-inch PlayStation Vita just isn't enough handheld for your... hands, it's time for the DekaVita 7 -- literally "huge Vita 7". Gametech has managed to make the Vita TV portable, by attaching HDMI and AC connectors, buttons and a seven-inch IPS screen to the miniconsole. (Why?) The result is something approaching a slightlysmaller Wii U GamePad, although there's no touchscreen -- because there isn't any compatibility with the Vita TV. (Seriously, why?) It'll cost 23,000 yen when it launches sometime in Spring 2015, although early preorders will get a 4,000 yen discount. Japan residents can do that here. Just, why?

We're going to say that Sony's relationship with the PS Vita is a little bit, well, complicated. Why? Because one of the biggest reasons to even own one these days, Remote Play, is now available in more places. Specifically, the Xperia Z2 smartphone and its similarly-named tablet cousin. That's right, you no longer need to own the catch-up king's portable gaming system or Z3 device to play PlayStation 4 games while you're away from your console and TV. Given that it uses the console's DualShock 4 controller rather than the slightly cramped confines of the Vita, depending on the size of your hands it could be a better experience, too. Sony says that the Xperia line is the only place you'll get full Remote Play functionality, but folks on the XDA Developers forums are already working to get around that bit of exclusivity so it's available on all capable Android gizmos. Are you a new Vita (or Z3) owner feeling a bit slighted now? Let us know in the comments.

Sony has confirmed the games that will be offered free to US and EU PlayStation Plus subscribers on PS4 in December and January
In the final month of 2014 PS4 owners subscribed Sony's premium service will be able to download Injustice: Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition, and Secret Ponchos.
In January, those games will make way for inFamous: First Light - the standalone expansion for inFamous: Second Son - and indie game The Swapper.
There are still more games to be confirmed for each month, and typically at least one title offered on the PS3 or Vita will be cross-buy compatible with PS4.
This comes as November's free offering arrive on the PlayStation Store, which includes The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth and SteamWorld Dig (cross-buy compatible) for PS4, Frozen Synapse Prime and Luftrausers for PS3, and The Hungry Horde and Escape Plan for Vita.
In the same announcement today, Sony also once again apologized for the ongoing and indefinite delay of the DriveClub: PS Plus Edition, which was originally due to launch alongside the full retail game last month.
"We understand many of you are waiting for DRIVECLUB PS Plus Edition to be added to the Instant Game Collection, and we apologise that the game is not yet ready to launch," said Sony. "We want you to know that we're committed to providing DRIVECLUB PS Plus Edition to members when it's ready, and the team at Evolution Studios is working hard to make it a reality."
The PS4 racer has been beset by problems since releasing on October 7, when its servers crumbled under the weight of users attempting to sample its social and multiplayer features.

UK retailers are already gearing up for the holiday season with some console promotions, including GameStop's £300 deal on a glacier white PlayStation 4. The brightly white PS4 was first available as part of the Destiny bundle, but then Sonyreleased it as a standalone a few weeks ago. GameStop's promo offer is a £30 cut off its regular listing, and £50 less than Sony's recommended retail price.
Meanwhile, Super Smash Bros Wii U is a few weeks out from its newly bumped-upNovember 28 release date in Her Maj's kingdom. As Nintendo Life reports, a few British retailers are taking the opportunity to bundle the brawler with the 8GB Basic Wii U, which Nintendo's been trying to phase out instead of the 32GB model. Those retailers include ShopTo, which has the white Wii U, Super Smash Bros. and New Super Mario Bros U going for £190.

7.9 million users are signed up to PlayStation Plus, a figure Sony said was a factor behind the success of the company's games division last quarter. Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President Kenichiro Yoshida divulged the subscriber count during Sony's investors call, following its earnings release last week.
When asked about the PlayStation division's prolific second quarter which saw an 83.2 percent year-on-year improvement in revenue, Yoshida first put down the momentum to Destiny and FIFA 15, noting both games contributed "quite significantly." He then added that "at the same time" the PS Plus subscription service had reached "7.9 million members."
