If the aesthetics of your Vita handheld are looking a bit drab, don't worry: A system update slated to hit the device "later tonight" adds support for a host of themes that can alter the appearance of your Home screen, Start screen, icons and background music.
Initially, the themes available for purchase from the PlayStation Network will be generic, colorful additions, though later themes will be patterned after hit games such as Tearaway, Freedom Wars and Uncharted: Golden Abyss. Sony has yet to reveal a price point for any of these themes, though if they follow the same pricing scheme as the PlayStation 3, expect the themes to fall somewhere between $1 to $3.

Japan is getting special, The Evil Within-branded PS4 consoles exclusive to the Japanese Sony Store with pre-orders starting in October, Siliconera reports. The PS4s come in both white and black, and they feature silhouetted images of an imposing asylum across the shiny portion of the console. In Japan, the game is titled "Psycho Break," and the name is included in the design.
There's no word on pricing in Japan or whether these consoles will make their way westward. The Evil Within is due out on October 14 in North America and Europe, for PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

If you need a video refresher of just exactly what the PlayStation TV is capable of ahead of its US and Canadian release, Sony has something to take care of that. The video we've embedded below reinforces that Sony's micro console is a device for families with kids and touts its ability to do more than just Remote Play PlayStation 4 games or stream some of Sony's back catalog via PS Now -- it's a low-cost media-streaming gizmo as well. Perhaps best of all, it gets the point across in under 90 seconds. What the clip doesn't tell you, however, is that while the PlayStation TV can play PS Vita games natively, some of the handheld's best releases (think Tearaway and Wipeout 2048) aren't yet compatible because of that system's use of touch controls. Will that caveat make you reconsider plopping down $100 come October 14th? Let us know in the comments.

Sure, you've been able to change the background on your PS Vita since day one, but swapping out the system's application icons wasn't exactly an option. Until now, that is. With the latest update to Sony's handheld, the custom themes that the catch-up kingpromised last month will soon be available. With software version 3.30 comes not only different icons for system settings and the like, but also new background music too, should you still have that turned on. Aside from Uncharted and Tearaway interface skins, thePlayStation Blog notes that not-game tie-in appearance packs themed around the four seasons and arts-and-crafts will be available too. Much like the trophy-rarity ratings coming to the portable with the patch (something the PlayStation 4 has had since launch), this is likely an appreciated gesture. However, we know there's probably at least a few amongst the PS4's 10 million owners who'd like to see their console look a little less blue sooner rather than later.

September 28th, 2014, 10:24 Posted By: wraggster
Since I already made it clear that I was not going to do any new development in the PSP scene, and I already promised to release the source code, I created two different repositories for ARK 2 and arkMenu.
ARK 2 is an improved and mostly bugfixed version of the ARK eCFW created by the team PRO a few years ago.
The eCFW was left gathering dust as nobody seemed to care about developing it.
My once great friend qwikrazor87 and I approached Coldbird for the source code because making another CFW from scratch was pointless and we all know how much TN likes to share code.
Coldbird had no problems giving us the source code so we could port our first kernel exploit to it, but we found out that over the years (or months) ARK had become highly unstable with newer firmwares, so we worked on updating it and improving the code.
Because I like knowledge to be shared and I’m a sucker for open source projects where anyone can contribute instead of elitism that makes no sense at this point in the scene, I asked Coldbird for permission to make it open source, and behold, I got permission from him and hrimfaxi.
Another project I worked on was arkMenu, a new menu with just enough features for all you need on the ePSP of the Vita: launching games (with PMF and AT3 support just like the XMB), a file browser and built-in FTP.
Anyways, I’m not working or gonna work on these projects anymore, so I might as well release the source code in the wild, perhaps new blood takes it from here, but given the current situation of the ePSP scene (all about ISOs and no homebrew developer) I find that extremely difficult to occur.
The repositories can be found in my bitbucket page: https://bitbucket.org/Acid_Snake

Who will not been heated ever the PS3 ? I think most of us have suffered from overheating console, in many cases, believe it or not cause irreversible damage , including the famous yellow light . Today I bring you the solution, or at least an attempt to address these shortcomings in users with CFW that will allow us to establish full control over the fan of our bold , may increase the fan speed if your console has a high temperature .

PlayStation Home will shut down in March 2015, Sony announced earlier this week.
PlayStation community posts confirmed that the "social gaming platform" will cease publishing new content on November 12. The Japanese version preceded its European counterpart into obsolescence last year.
Players will not be able to "download content" past December 3, however Sony plans to release a substantial amount of free content for the game prior to its closure.
Home entered open beta in 2008 as a platform for PlayStation 3 owners to meet up and interact with customizable avatars. Also notable for the time were its living spaces, which players could decorate and upgrade.
Though the service was initially positioned as an integral part of the PS3 experience, with plans for a dedicated Trophy Room to let players show off their prowess in other games, PS Home largely served as a gathering place for its own community.
Promotional areas for Sony games and sponsored products offered players new items and apparel for their avatars, some as rewards for good performance in playable mini-games.
Sony said the service has hosted "tens of millions of users" from around the world since it opened.

Want to check out Destiny's strike missions and raids but haven't shelled out for aPlayStation Plus membership yet? Well, perhaps you can rally a few similarly-leveled buddies this weekend and give The Devil's Lair or Vault of Glass a shot on PlayStation 4 -- even if they're in Europe. Starting this Friday at 3:01 a.m. Eastern / 12:01 a.m. Pacific, you'll have a chance at taking out Sepiks Prime with a little help from your friends in developer Bungie's latest shooter, gratis. Sony's PlayStation Network has grown by leaps and bounds since the PS3 days, and the outfit wants to show it off. If Destiny isn't your game, as Joystiqwrites, you can take any multiplayer title online until the free promotion ends Sunday at 11:59 p.m. Pacific. We hear that Battlefield 4 is finally working, too, but if you aren't into the whole pew-pew thing, there's always FIFA 15. Regardless of what you play, there's almost never a bad reason to spend a weekend on the couch enjoying the great indoors.

You assume that you’ll be able to get parts forever… after all: The Internet. But what if you can’t justify paying the price for them? [Cristi C.] was in this situation, not wanting to fork over $30+ for a replacement PSP battery. The handheld gaming rig itself was just discontinued this year but supposedly the batteries have been out of production for some time. What you see above is the controller board from an original battery, with the cell from a camera battery.
The key is protection. The chemistry in Lithium cells of several types brings a working voltage of around 3.7V. Swapping the cells — even if they are different capacities — should work as protection circuits generally measure current, voltage, and sometimes temperature as they charge in order to know when the cell is full. With this in mind [Christi] cracked open a used Canon NB-6L type battery and grabbed the prismatic cell as a replacement for the pouch cell in the Sony S110 case (PDF). The Canon cell is enclosed in a metal case and is just a bit smaller than the pouch was. This means with careful work it fit back inside the original plastic enclosure.
On a somewhat related note, be careful when sourcing brand-x batteries. Some manufacturers implement checks for OEM equipment but there are ways around that.

With the PlayStation Now beta just opening to a larger chunk of the gaming population, you might be wondering how the streaming service came to Sony in the first place. Why did Gaikai drop its entire PC audience to join a console maker? Thankfully for you, Gaikai chief David Perry has just shed light on that transition in an interview with GameInformer. Simply put, streaming on computers was becoming a nightmare for Perry's team before the 2012 acquisition. The sheer number of compatibility problems was "massively reducing" the number of titles Gaikai could support, and the software required increasingly elaborate tricks (such as image recognition) just to run at all. The company wanted to escape these headaches by going to a platform with standardized elements like controllers and copy protection. When Sony came knocking, it quickly became clear that the PlayStation was a good match -- it solved many challenges in one fell swoop.

Sony will be releasing its PlayStation TV here in the US and in Canada on October 14th. What's more, as it looks to get people amped up for it, the company also let it be known that the mini console is set to have nearly 700 playable games from day one, giving interested folks Stateside and in The Great White North something to look forward to come launch day. That amount of games, naturally, is made possible thanks to the PlayStation TV's flexibility -- it provides access to a variety of content in different ways, including through PS Vita titles, PlayStation Now and via Remote Play with a PlayStation 4. The PlayStation TV is going to be available for $99 (system-only), or you also have the option to get a $140 bundle which includes a DualShock 3 controller, 8GB memory card and The Lego Movie Videogame.

NesterJ 1.12 RM SP is released. NesterJ is a NES Emulator for PSP. It is a modified version of NesterJ.
NesterJ 1.12 RM SP Changelog:
Unnoficial NesterJ 1.12 RM SP adds 2 new features:
1) Update adds 2 new screen modes:
Wide Screen - 2x by 1x
Wide x1.5 - Centered 1x by 1.5x
2) Adds 8 new color palettes chosen from the most popular in emu's
AspiringSquire's Real palette
Loopy's palette
Quor's palette
Chris Covell's palette
Matt Conte's palette
PasoFami/99 palette
CrashMan's palette
MESS palette
I started to make this mod considering there was no screen option for a
perect 2x1 scale that would work good with TV out/FusaSD/RemoteJoyLite
and ended up with this
I didnt use NesterJ AoEX R3 because it crashes on RemoteJoyLite and has other
crashes.
The Screen Modes updated are Wide Screen for a perfect 2x1 scale better to use
on RemoteJoyLite feature as it doesn't flicker and scrolls properly.
Screen Mode Wide 1.5x is a scale using verticle 1x and horizontal 1.5x this mode
is preferable for a clearer picture when using upscaling though it doesn't
fit the full screen but is very smooth.
The Color palettes I ripped off popular emulators as these are the most used
simply select one of the now 11 available and see the difference in color
from Real nes (AspiringSquire's Real) to high contrast nes (Loopy) to
deep rich color (CrashMan)

NesterJ AoEX SP is released. This is based on NesterJ 1.12 Plus 0.61 RM, so it includes features like rewind mode, cheat codes support, rotated/mirrored screen, sepia palette, support to rare mappers (the pirate bootleg FF7 works on it), etc. NesterJ is a NES Emulator for PSP. Here is a version based on NesterJ AoEX R3 it crashes on RemoteJoyLite so for
a T.V. out option it scales to a perfect 4:3 resolution with FusaSD option 0.
And yes it works with Fusa on 6.60 ME 2
The Screen Modes updated are Wide Screen for a perfect 2x1 scale better to use
on T.V. out with the zoom feature as it doesn't flicker and scrolls properly.

Jpcsp SVN r3632 is compiled. JPCSP is the most advanced PlayStation Portable(PSP) emulator, allowing you to play your PSP games on a PC. Even though Jpcsp is written in Java, it can already reach 100% PSP speed on a lot of commercial games... and the emulator performance is constantly increasing. Jpcsp takes full advantage of dual-core processors, matching the PSP dual-core architecture. Even a quad-core can give a small performance improvement by leaving free CPU cores for the Java JIT Compiler and the graphics cache.
Jpcsp SVN changelog:
r3631
Improved sceAtracGetBufferInfoForReseting and sceAtracResetPlayPosition.
r3632
Added support for decoding of PSMF audio into CodecTest application, for
investigations.
