TPN have released a new podcast for the PSP, heres the details:
It may have been less than a week since the last podcast, but the summer hiatus has given me a little backlog of games to look over (and there’s still some PSN only titles I want to get to) so the pace of shows may pick up a little bit. Which means maybe a bit less news per show, but more shows.
That’s if I can put down today’s review title! Mytran Wars is threatening to take up all my time though – this turn based strategy game reminds me of UFO – Enemy Unknown and Julian Gollop’s Rebelstar.
And a little hello to BitFood, who pointed The PSP Show out to their readers as "…a no frills site that provides fast reviews of PSP games – and that has been a huge success."

An interesting release from indrora
Ebootr 1.0.3540.37398
"A kick in the pants"
*** WARNING ***
This is BETA QUALITY SOFTWARE. Because I am human, I make misteaks, and because I make mistakes, there will be bugs that pop up from time to time. So far, I've had no problems generating valid EBOOTs. Test your EBOOTs before you distribute them if you make them with my app! I take no responsibility for any damage that may result from using this, kay?
Back for another round of AWESOME. Ebootr round 2 is here, and better than ever.
I've updated the interface a little, and fixed some things.
Read the documentation from the help menu for the complete changelog, but here's the basic gist:
- Fixed some bug where when you save the same file you'd get an overwrite message, but the Eboot stored in memory would still be lashed to the open tab (via a file handle) and it would crash. Thanks Yammata684 for the bug report
- Made saving a bit more... tolerable. I'm working on something behind the curtains, but dont worry it wont break anything.
- Checking against the MAGIC bytes of several files (Everything but DATA.PSAR)
- warning if there is no Data.PSP and Param.SFO (I force making "playable" pbp's)
- warning if SND0.AT3 and ICON1.PMF are too big (>500K, give or take)
- Added warning of "You really want to exit?" when you hit exit or try to close the window.
This revision includes the source code. When you build it, it will *not* have the same build ID -- This is because I use the AssemblyInfo generated by VS08. The app itself is written in C# 3 (no linq) and can be compiled using either Visual Studio 2008 or SharpDevelop 3.1 (some of the newer betas) if you edit the file to look like a VS05 file. I've done my best to write solid comments, but dont rely on
this code for learning -- unless you want to learn how to write really wonky applications.
Cheers,
Indrora.

News posted over at PSPITA
New update from DekraN user of our forum, for his homebrew AlphaBase, allowing you to bash one used for the purpose of debugging directly on the PSP. Among the new features in this release, the 2.6, the addition of new commands to run as 'mac', 'FMAC', 'ban', 'get', 'Grease', 'find' and 'check'. Were also fixed some bugs in the program and has been further optimized the code. I remember AlphaBase is completely open-source.
Following the full changelog and the link to download.
Changelog v2.6:
Quote:
- Added commands 'mac', 'FMAC', 'ban', 'get', 'Grease', 'find' and 'check';
- Removed the command 'test' as totally useless;
- Fixato a bug in the command 'udp', closing the open socket connection to any server in any case;
- Fixato a bug in the command 'cmd', which showed a LUA error when it was called;
- Fixato a bug in the command 'res', that disables the environment (the markings were not printed on the screen), if they were written to reset the system and if that were over 26;
- Fixato a bug in all the commands in the management of users, that did not work due to a bug in the function that checks whether the user level is less than the maximum level;
- Fixato a bug in the control system extensions, which showed a LUA error if the file was placed consisting of a single character;
- The validation system is now also supported by the command 'log';
- Apply the system 'Macro' to commands. Now you can define multiple aliases for all commands, temporarily if the macros are declared using the command 'mac CMD ~ REPLACE' (it should still be careful since there exists no control over the replacement string) static if they are declared by the command 'FMAC PATH ', or by uploading a file macrolist (see the chapter on Macros in the documentation updated). You can reset a command macro charged simply by typing 'mac CMD', otherwise, to completely reset the list of commands used by all macros, type 'mac';
- Added system getString. You can now copy the string with the command 'get STRING' is displayed at a later time using the command 'get' with no parameters. The current string is displayed at two keyboards as pre-written text. To select the current string type 'GET String / POS', where POS is the identifier of the string in the list. E 'possible to replace a string with another previously copied with' Grease STRING / POS ~ newString 'or remove it completely with' Grease STRING / POS ';
- All user management commands have been modified so that an admin can not change the profile of another admin;
- Renamed a few commands;
- Optimize system color management system (CMS), and added a new color system, the celestial, to print screen the external strings, such credits or messages of welcome / exit;
- Optimize the commands' log ',' reg ',' ctrl ',' sys', 'mouse', 'print2', 'mark', 'alarm', 'Mlist', 'play', 'helper', 'size ',' ahs', 'ahr', 'copy';
- Optimize the system for managing the mouse;
- Added more checks and various system messages informational programming;
- Now you can set via the keyboard Settings.ini initial state of the system of validation and limitation of executions user;
- The validation system now enhances the security environment, running multiple controls on the handling of the AUF file if the user level is less than the maximum level;
- Now using the command 'helper' you can also view the status of the variables contained in Settings.ini; To see the variables Helper normal type 'helper 0', for the INI, 'helper 1'. To see them all, simply type 'helper';
- Delivered more linear, the search system of macro commands, and thus increase the speed of processing of commands (CEU) by 5-10%;
- Syntax of the language is highly optimized;
- Code optimized in general;
- Eboot renewed;

The thought of many PSP users, after the release by Sony of a new official firmware is: leave the Custom Firmware? If ever we'll issue a CF 6.00, certainly not be signed M33 and Dark-Alex. This is what emerged from a note by Alek, the webmaster of the network dark-alex.org on PSPWiki. Following the likely number of requests received on the Wiki and the Blog, Alek said that there is no CF 6.00M33 as you will read in full.

Company reaffirms its commitment to the PSP’s UMD format
Despite Sony’s recent thrust into the digital distribution business, the firm remains confident that the PSP’s UMD format can deliver.
Speaking to Develop in an exclusive interview, Sony Europe’s Zeno Colaco stated that the company has “probably the best UMD line-up ever on PSP this year.”
Games set to be released on UMD this year include Tekken 6, LittleBigPlanet, Gran Turismo, Motorstorm: Arctic Edge and GTA Chinatown Wars. All of these games will be released on UMD, though most will be available as digital downloads.
“I think the key thing is that we’re not moving away from UMD just because we’re making strides in digital distribution,” added Colaco. “From the beginning we’ve said we’re sticking to a two-SKU program that will sustain PSP and PSPgo.
“Most of our projected sales for this year are via UMD,” he said.
“We’ve already got strong support on the UMD-side, so it’s time we expanded further.”
Colaco also claimed that the upcoming PSP Minis games may end up as UMD bundles.

Sony's PSP Minis range was originally believed to be a way the PSPgo could compete with the iPhone's successful App Store, but comments today from Sony Europe suggest they could go a little further than just the new PSP.
SCEE's Zeno Colaco has told Develop "The most successful Minis titles will probably transition to UMD", meaning that the range could act as either an audition of sorts for small-time developers looking to get onto retail shelves, or that successful Minis titles could be packaged in bundles on UMD.
And that's just extra opportunities for the games on the PSP. Colaco also says there's a chance that, where suitable, Minis could end up on the PSN as well.
"These games won't need to necessarily be built for the home console, and I think these games will find their true life and identity in those micro-bursts of play", he said. "But I do think there's a possibility that Minis could find themselves on other consoles down the line."

CEDEC 2009: Sony demonstrates the PS3’s voice recognition capabilities
Sony will soon integrate voice-recognition technology into the PS3’s SDK.
The company exhibited its new voice recognition tech – known as PSVR - during a show floor demonstration at CEDEC 2009.
According to a report from diginfo.tv, the tech will soon be integrated into PS3 SDKs, and can understand voice commands in twenty different languages.
During the recent Develop Conference, Sony had offered more info on its motion control device, claiming that it would integrate with the PSEye to offer "a truly interactive device".
Voice recognition is currently available on the latest edition of SingStar, giving players the option to select tracks when speaking through a SingStar microphone.
The report adds that voice recognition tech is not currently available in standard PS3 SDKs, though it will be “widely available to developers” in the future.

Firmware 3.00 brought many changes: some good, some bad. The good? The removal of the PS3 logo at a game's launch, which "makes the loading time a bit quicker than before." The bad? A few aesthetic changes, most notoriously the redesigned Friends list. Inexplicably, the latest software update added large gray boxes around each individual user ID, making for a cluttered look that simply didn't jive with the elegance of the XMB. SCEE's PS3 Brand Manager appeared on the EU PlayStation.Blog to admit that "updates to firmware don't always suit everyone's tastes."
Thankfully, the Friends list is something Sony is "looking into based on your comments." Mark Bowles added, "We really do appreciate the feedback you guys give us, both positive and negative."
Sony, may we recommend you take some inspiration from the mock-ups (seen above) created by Steven Shaw? The "box" idea works really well, when implemented correctly. Above, Shaw uses the box to highlight the selected user, and then takes advantage of the screen real estate to provide instant access to useful information. We're quite fond of his work -- you should definitely check out more.
