The Blu-ray Disc Association - which comprises key execs from Sony, Samsung, Disney and Warner Bros, amongst others - has told CVG that the capacity of the format will grow to "support the ambitions of games developers" in future.
The news comes after Sharp announced a new 100GB, triple-layered Blu-ray disc in July - dubbed 'BDXL'.
PS3 is currently the only games console to read Blu-ray - and is limited to the standard dual-layered 50GB disc. If a 100GB disc - or larger - becomes the industry standard in future, it will likely require a new model of PS3, or, most intriguingly, a new games console altogether.
"The ambition of [games] developers is unlimited and therefore you will see new and exciting innovations that could well require additional storage capacity," European Blu-ray Disc Association chairman Graham Heaton told CVG.
"Blu-ray is in a position to be able to grow with the industry and ensure that disc storage capacity can support the ambitions of the developers."
Microsoft has told CVG that it isn't interested in adopting Blu-ray for Xbox. It instead considers digital media the 'future of home entertainment'.
However, developers such as Capcom and Mercury Steam have discussed the "problem" of creating games on multiple DVD discs - and said that the issue will only become more apparent as time goes on.
The 360 version of Konami's Castlevania: Lords Of Shadow will be released on two DVD discs in October.
Earlier this year, Lost Planet 2 producer Jun Takeuchi revealed that Capcom had to hack content out of the 360 version of the game to fit it onto DVD.
Meanwhile, God Of War 3 developer Sony Santa Monica claimed that its PS3 exclusive required over 40GB of space - and was only possible on PS3.

As was speculated yesterday, Sony is to launch an iTunes-rivalling digital music service for a number of its home entertainment products.
Though technically it sounds impressive the branding could perhaps do with a little work – it’s called ‘Music Unlimited Powered by Qriocity’.
Nonetheless, the European PlayStation Blog reports that the service is built around the cloud-computing principle and will be accessible for owners of PS3, Vaio PCs, Bravia TVs and some Blu-ray players.
“We are excited to offer our customers high quality, cloud-based entertainment experiences across many of Sony’s network-enabled devices,” Sony’s Networked Products & Services Group president Kaz Hirai stated.
“Services ‘powered by Qriocity’ will revolutionize the way that users play, listen, watch, share, communicate, learn, discover and create their digital entertainment content.”

Despite what we'd heard before, Sony announced today at IFA that the firmware update bringing 3D Blu-ray playback to the PlayStation 3 will not arrive this month, instead pushed back to October which, we are told, is an entire 30 days away. until then we'll have to live with the recent MotorStorm 3D game that recently popped up on PSN and a slightly-lower res version of Wipeout. Unfortunately, there still aren't many movies to watch for the time being, and even the most ardent early adopters may want to wait until Sony rolls out the Michael Jackson's This Is It - 3D Enhanced Edition and Alice in Wonderland 3D bundles it also announced. For the rest of us, we'll probably still be firmly planted on the fence by the time the Green Hornet and Spiderman movies mentioned on stage come to disc.

Mathieulh and his crew have released their "free" version of the PS Jailbreak code.
To the dismay of the majority of people waiting for it, though, the team have disabled the ability to install games. If running unsigned homebrew code is your thing, though, grab a Teensy 2.0, Teensy++ USB Development Board v2.0 or an AT90USBKEY and have fun. PSGroove is an open-source version of the PSJailBreak exploit for AT90USB and related micro-controllers.
PSGroove for now allows the very same features as the PS JailBreak but without backup manager support, you can also now remove the dongle.
Download: HERE (Compiled Open Source is attached - NO BACKUP MANAGER INCLUDED)
This is the PSGroove, an open-source reimplementation of the psjailbreak exploit for AT90USB and related microcontrollers.
It should work on:
- AT90USB162
- AT90USB646
- AT90USB647
- AT90USB1286
- AT90USB1287
- ATMEGA32U4
- …and maybe more.
This software is not intended to enable piracy, and such features have been disabled. This software is intended to allow the execution of unsigned third-party apps and games on the PS3.
Configuring
Chip and board selection can usually be handled in the Makefile. In particular, update the MCU, BOARD, and F_CPU lines. Suggested values:
Teensy 1.0:
MCU = at90usb162
BOARD = TEENSY
F_CLOCK = 16000000
Teensy++ 1.0:
MCU = at90usb646
BOARD = TEENSY
F_CLOCK = 16000000
Teensy 2.0:
MCU = atmega32u4
BOARD = TEENSY
F_CLOCK = 16000000
Teensy++ 2.0:
MCU = at90usb1286
BOARD = TEENSY
F_CLOCK = 16000000
AT90USBKEY / AT90USBKEY2:
MCU = at90usb1287
BOARD = USBKEY
F_CLOCK = 8000000
Board-specific notes
Teensy boards only have one LED, so it will turn off when the exploit succeeds rather than turn green. Older Teensy 1.0 boards also have the polarity inverted. In general, a LED should do something when the board is powered, and do something different when the exploit works.
Building
On Linux, use the AVR GCC toolchain (Debian/Ubuntu package: gcc-avr). On Windows, WinAVR should do the trick.
make clean
make
Programming
Now program psgroove.hex into your board and you're ready to go. For the AT90USBKEY and other chips with a DFU bootloader preinstalled, you can get the dfu-programmer tool, put your board in programming mode, and run
make dfu
For the Teensy boards, you probably have to use the Teensy Loader software.
Using
To use this exploit:
- Hard power cycle your PS3 (using the switch in back, or unplug it)
- Plug the dongle into your PS3.
- Press the PS3 power button, followed quickly by the eject button.
After a few seconds, the first LED on your dongle should light up. After about 5 seconds, the second LED will light up (or the LED will just go off, if you only have one). This means the exploit worked! You can see the new "InstallPackage Files" menu option in the game menu.
To load files, you will need TEENSY Loader (for TEENSY boards) can be found here. If you are using a AT90USB, you can download ATMEL FLIP Utility here.
Once you have your board, you can also purchase a USB Male Type A to Mini USB 5-Pin Adapter to connect to your PS3. You can buy from DealExtreme:
*NOTE: No illegal files are included. Link above contains open source files. DO NOT POST FILES OR LINK TO ILLEGAL FILES. THIS WILL RESULT IN A BAN! This is solely for homebrew purposes.

The company behind the controversial PSJailbreak, a device that allows users to play homebrew and pirated code on PS3 for the first time, has asserted its position in the face of Sony’s legal challenge to the product.
Last week Sony was been granted a temporary injunction preventing the importing or sale of the device.
However, PS3News reports that the manufacturers claim the challenge is nothing more than a “scare tactic” and that “'nothing illegal has been done – there is no copyrighted code, and we have not interfered with any intellectual property law”.
“This is not OzModChips Vs Sony. This is not OzModChips, Quantronics, Modsupplier Vs Sony. We would go as far as saying that is not even everyone in Australia Vs Sony. This will effect everyone that plans to buy such a device world wide,” a statement reads.
“It already sets a dangerous precedent. Everyone that was using OtherOS, everyone that has had a faulty PS3 laser and those interested in PS3 custom firmware and homebrew applications. We cannot do it alone, we need the support of everyone the homebrew community, the media, engineers that understand the inner workings and anyone else that can provide support.”
The retailer has also pledged to receive all orders it has received if Australian courts decide to uphold the existing ban.
In addition, Kotaku reports that the court hearing to access the temporary injunction previously scheduled to take place today has now been postponed until Friday September 3rd. The sales ban will therefore remain in effect until at least then.

Hacker team successfully cloned PSJAILBREAK, now improving the shell code...
According to Mathieulh via Twitter, he and his team have successfully cloned the PSJailbreak dongle.
When asked "Will you be releasing the files now?" - Mathieulh responded "Not yet, we plan on improving the shell code first, we have no interest in releasing yet another clone"
See the twitter feed here for the source: http://twitter.com/Mathieulh
Doesn't look like there will be long to wait until the ingredients to make your own will be available, just upload to programmable USB chips and cook on gas mark 5 for 30 mins...
Update: Mathieulh has now stated "We are not releasing anything, we didn't just rip things off, we know how it works ,the clone is just a proof of concept, we plan on documenting"
Update 2
Mathieulh wrote: The exploit will be documented on the ps3wiki as soon as possible (we need to write up the whole article, will take a bit)
You can visit the Wiki here: http://ps3wiki.lan.st/index.php/Main_Page
Just to clarify - it's looking like this will be a documented proof of concept, once it's read and understood it should allow those with the appropriate technical skill level to recreate it on their own. In other words, it's essentially useless.

modrobert writes: "Descrambler over at ps3hax.net has sniffed the USB traffic during a PS Jailbreak session and posted the dumps, after that it has spread to several sites and been disassembled along the way. Since interesting data (and even whole sites) have a nasty way of disappearing on the net I pasted it all up in a text file (ASCII) you can find here. After a quick look at the stuff released it seems as if the first USB session prepares a 'landing zone' with PPC exploit code and the second session trigger some kind of overflow bug which throws execution to land somewhere within the exploit code (maybe in a buffer or stack). bdacanay has posted a new release of the Nintendo 64 Emulator for PSP
Heres whats new etc
DaedalusX64 is the best Nintendo 64 Emulator available exclusively for the PSP. To eliminate some frequently asked questions: No, the Emulator is not perfect, so any graphical bugs, or speed issues are considered normal. Yes, the audio does not always play full speed, often crackles, and can cause the Emulator to crash. The latest compiled rev of DaedalusX64 can be found below, and I will try my best to upload the latest rev when I'm aware of it's commit. Thank you DaedalusX64 Team, and keep up the hard work.
What's changed in this revision:
Revision 566
[!] Simplified DLParser_GBI2_Conker (Corn8)
[!] Updated roms.ini, everything should be up to date now(bdacanay)
[!] Improved check for invalid ucode tables( conker doesn't crash anymore after he winks)
[+] Rewrote DMA_SP_CopyFromRDRAM/DMA_SP_CopyToRDRAM (This heavily based in Mupen DMA code)

On Monday, news came down the pipeline from SCEE president Andrew House that Sony wants to focus on a younger audience for the PSP with future titles. My immediate reaction was one of shock and confusion. After all, in an interview with IndustryGamers at E3, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime noted that, 'the way I would describe the market for the Nintendo 3DS would be the launch market that we had with the Nintendo DS plus the launch market that maybe PSP had.' When your primary competitor is looking to the exact market that you've catered to, why would you abandon that market? There was a time when Sony Computer Entertainment was a trailblazer, bringing things to the industry ahead of everyone else. Nowadays, however, it seems that Sony is content to merely fall in step behind everyone else and simply try hard to not fall too far behind.
