New Operation Flashpoint, DiRT and Race Driver: GRID games are in production, Codemasters has confirmed.
The UK-based developer also teased a "massive" new game based on the latest evolution of its EGO engine technology.
"In Southam it's full steam ahead with the next iteration in our Flashpoint series, as well as the next DiRT and GRID. It'll be interesting to see how it all pans out," senior vice president of production Jamie MacDonald told Develop.
Simulation shooter Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising received a warm but not scorching reception upon its debut last October and hopes will be high that its successor can build on that result.
DiRT 2 scored highly last September while the older GRID, released in May 2008, was a critical darling and first brought us the race-rewind feature that became so useful in subsequent driving games such as Forza Motorsport 3 from Turn 10.
Elsewhere in the interview, MacDonald's colleague, VP of studios Gavin Cheshire, suggested that investment in technology would be critical to the success of the Southam titles and indeed F1 2010, due out this September.
"The next F1 will show where EGO has got to at this stage," he said. "I think people will agree that it has probably got the best weather of any game ever seen. It is very powerful, but is also in an intricate stage right now."
Offering a glimpse of the future, he added: "We are focused on EGO 2.0 at the moment, which will be coming in with a massive title that we can't talk about just yet. That will really keep us cutting-edge." Bring back Dizzy!

News via http://www.psp-hacks.com/2010/07/26/...ed/#more-15415
Here comes another NitePR cheat-engine mod, and know this, this isn’t your usual lame ass colour and/or text string changes; this is raing3′s mod taking NitePR to the PSP Action Replay (PSPAR) level, meaning you can use PSPAR cheat codes with said cheat engine. CWCHEAT-style codes are supported too. That’s right.
Copy the whole PSPAR directory to seplugins and add the appropriate line — ms0:/seplugins/PSPAR/pspar.prx 1 — to game.txt.
To get cheating: Start your game and press the “Home” button twice followed by a simultaneous press of VOL UP + VOL DOWN. Press “Note” to enable the cheats.
And should you only want to load PSPAR v1 (this NitePR mod) for select games, you know, if memory consumption is a concern, or for whatever other reason, then take a look at AtomicDryad’s selective PSP plugin loader.
All the rest follows… Good lookin’ out, raing3.
Changes in v1 (July 24, 2010)
[+] Added support for a _C2 code name line. _C2 codes are active irrespective of the cheat engine status.
[+] Can now insert a new CWCheat code from menu under PRX by pressing SQUARE.
[+] Added support for the remaining CWCheat pointer code types.
[!] Fixed the 0x0E PSPAR code type.
[!] Various bug fixes.
Changes in Beta 2.1 (July 22, 2010)
[!] Fixed issue loading codes when end of read buffer is reached.
[+] Added support for single pointer CWCheat code type.
Changes in Beta 2 (July 21, 2010)
[+] Added tool to convert the PSPAR.com pspar_codes1.bin file to a format compatible with this cheat device.
[+] Implemented some CWCheat code types (very untested).
[+] Codes are loaded from a single cheat.db file.
[!] Problem loading and storing 8/16-bit values.
Changes in Beta 1 (July 18, 2010)
[+] Added PSPAR Code Type Support (note: May Have Some Buggy Code Types).
[-] Removed NitePR Code Type Support.
[-] Removed the SOCOM stuff.
[-] Removed the off value function.
[?] Cheat Hz changed from 0 to 15 by default.
[?] Real address mode active by default for browser and decoder.
[?] Real addresses should be used for codes as PSPAR uses real addresses.
Key
[+] New/Improved Feature
[-] Removed Feature
[!] Fixed Bug
[?] Other Stuff

Netflix just became a lot easier to use on the PS3. No, you still need a disc (for now), but the application has been stealthily upgraded with the ability to search for and watch videos from the entire Instant library. For example, typing the letter "A" quickly revealed Avatar: The Last Airbender.
Unfortunately, the Xbox Live and Wii versions of Netflix don't appear to have been updated with this feature yet. Xbox owners will have to wait until November.

The early Sega Genesis roguelike Fatal Labyrinth was released on PC download services last week, but Sega doesn't appear to be done re-releasing it yet. The ESRB listing for the game shows, in addition to its existing PC and Wii (Virtual Console) releases, plans for Mac, PS3, and Xbox 360 versions of the game.
Fatal Labyrinth is actually already available on PS3 and Xbox, as part of Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection, but a separate ESRB listing for those platforms suggests a standalone downloadable release, like those given to games like Gunstar Heroes, Sonic & Knuckles, and Phantasy Star II. Good news for those of you who don't want to spend around twenty dollars for the fantastic deal that is the Ultimate Genesis Collection.

Sony is to post an operating profit of between 10 and 30 billion yen for the first quarter of its 2010 financial year.
That's according to Japanese business paper Nikkei, translated by Andriasang which suggests that the PlayStation business and mobile sectors were both profitable for the company, along with strong sales of SLR cameras and LCD televisions in Japan and in foreign markets.
For the same periods last year Sony recorded an operating loss of ¥25.7 billion, with the PlayStation department accounting for a loss of ¥39.7 billion due to a decline in profitability of the games and Vaio businesses.
During the first quarter of last year, sales of PlayStation 3 hardware was down from 1.6 million units to 1.1 million, and PSP unit sales down from 3.7 million to 1.3 million.
Sony's first quarter financial results will be released this Thursday, July 29.

July 26th, 2010, 20:19 Posted By: wraggster
Japanese publisher Capcom has said that it will not exhibit at Gamescom this year as the German ratings board has not yet rated forthcoming game Dead Rising 2.
Without knowing whether the game will be granted a release – which seems unlikely as the original Dead Rising was banned in the region – the publisher said it was not willing to commit to the European show as it only has one other title for release this year.
"Gamescom allows publishers and developers an excellent opportunity to promote their titles to both consumers and media. Therefore when taking the decision to exhibit we must weigh up what we can offer both of these groups at that time," said Capcom in a statement.
"In the case of consumers we feel it makes sense for them to experience the titles that will be available in stores over the next few months and right now we have confirmed two titles for release between August and the end of the year – Dead Rising 2 and Sengoku Basara Samurai Heroes. As you are probably aware the first Dead Rising was banned in Germany and as we are still awaiting a verdict from the USK for Dead Rising 2 it would be remiss of us to promote the sequel to consumers in Germany. While Sengoku Basara is a great title we cannot justify solely exhibiting this one game."
However, the company did say it would attend Gamescom to talk to the press and show its games behind closed doors.
"While Capcom will not have a presence in the Koln Messe at this year’s Gamescom we will be meeting with media to preview some of our forthcoming titles."
Gamecom takes place in Cologne, Germany, August 18-22.

July 26th, 2010, 20:12 Posted By: wraggster
BioWare has corrected an error-riddled IGN preview of Dragon Age 2, explaining that there are more than three dialogue choices per conversation.
"I'm not really sure where the 'there are only three options for dialogue' impression they got came from," wrote Mike Laidlaw, lead DA2 designer, on the BioWare forum.
"Perhaps it was when I showed one half of the dialogue wheel with three options which, you know, leaves another half open for, you know, other options."
"Also probably worth noting that we're not locked into specific icons per place in the wheel. Oh no. We have much more flexibility than that. We're like gymnasts."
BioWare developer Craig Graff added that there are up to five "choice" options and five "investigate" options "per dialogue node". He explained that there was a difference between choices when you're deciding something and choices when you want to express yourself.
"I imagine that's the only dialogue he saw?" chipped-in lead writer David Gaider. "The demo is pretty action-packed and there's only the one conversation which, yes, has three options in it. As has been said elsewhere in this thread, however, that's not all we're limited to.
"The personality options (which the article mis-characterises, I'm afraid - they may have been more his impression of the lines he saw rather than our explanation of them) have a bit more complexity as to what they affect. That's probably part of a larger conversation, however, so we'll talk about it at length later."
IGN originally reported that Dragon Age 2 conversations were restricted to three dialogue choices and each of those were signposted by a good, evil or "badass" icon.

Tetsuya Mizuguchi has remained noncommittal on Move and 3D support for his upcoming music shooter, Child of Eden.
When asked about Move support for the game - which was demoed for Microsoft's Kinect at E3 - Mizuguchi-san told CVG: "We can't say anything at this time."
The comment follows word at E3 that the Rez designer doesn't even have a Move dev kit yet and is "undecided" on whether or not to include support for the motion controller.
On 3D Mizuguchi was unfortunately just as mysterious, telling us: "unfortunately we can't comment on that at the moment, either."
One piece of tech the Q Entertainment man is happy to discuss of course is Microsoft's motion tech, which he said is "improving every day" in terms of development tech and software.

PS3 multiplayer beta testing for Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood gets under way in September.
Ubisoft announced the date at the end of a new video, which shows a variety of ways in which death can be gifted.
Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood takes hero Ezio to Rome and asks him to train an army to take down the Templars. On top of that, there's multiplayer for the first time ever in the series. Ubisoft defended Brotherhood's worth as "not a 2.5" release to Eurogamer last week.
Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood will be released on 20th November for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

July 24th, 2010, 23:24 Posted By: wraggster
Sony did not make many friends in the tech community when the company forcibly removed the option to install Linux via a mandatory firmware update. The problem was simple: Sony had previously pushed this feature as an advantage its system held over its competitors, and later assured gamers that it would continue to be supported. That is, until Sony became spooked about the possibility of piracy. Lawsuits were filed, and Ars Technica has now learned that the court will bundle all seven suits into a single class-action case.
"In essence, the claims in these cases are that Sony Computer Entertainment of America (“Sony”) falsely represented that PS3 purchasers would be able to use their PS3s as a computer by installing another operating system, such as Linux," a document obtained by Ars Technica states. "In a recent firmware update, Sony removed the ability of consumers to utilize this feature. As a result, seven class actions were filed against Sony in federal court in San Francisco, California."
This happened at the request of "all counsel," and now the lawyers involved will work together as a united front against Sony. "At the request of all of the attorneys, Judge Seeborg ordered that three law firms with offices in San Francisco where the litigation is pending will serve as co-lead counsel."
So what happens now? A consolidated class-action complaint, followed by Sony's response. A court date is set for sometime in September for the parties to discuss next steps for the lawsuit.

Sure, you could pick up a Cabela game and go hunting for some helpless deer. Or, you can man up and start hunting dinosaurs.
Carnivores: Dinosaur Hunter is the second "minis" game from developer Beatshapers, who previously worked on NormalTanks. You'll be tracking down fifteen different dinosaurs in five different levels, using a variety of weapons, including sniper rifles and crossbows.
Don't expect an arcade-style game in the style of Turok, though. According to the press release, you'll have to take into account "wind direction" and use a "special dinosaur call" to successfully track and locate dinosaurs to hunt. That probably sounds something like this: "Oh my god, please don't eat me!"
Carnivores will be available for PSP and PS3 next month.

Front Mission Evolved is still on course for release on 17th September in the UK despite it being delayed in the US.
Yesterday publisher Square Enix delayed the launch of the game in the US to 28th September.
Square Enix Europe told Eurogamer that the delay is US specific: "The release date for Front Mission Evolved in Europe is 17th September. If there is any change to this we will announce it in due course."
Wondering what Front Mission Evolved is all about? Wonder no more: It's a mecha combat game under development by Double Helix for the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
Double Helix has decided to resurrect the series in a third-person action format rather than as a strategy game, hence the name.
That means you're a Wanzer - a giant walking robot that goes around shooting and stepping on things and never says sorry.
A "totally immersive storyline", "Hollywood-style production values" and "intense" multiplayer are all promised.

July 24th, 2010, 12:02 Posted By: wraggster
Square Enix has revealed that its new MMO Final Fantasy XIV Online will feature 18 character classes, or disciplines, at launch.
The confirmation comes in the latest Famitsu, as revealed by FFXIV Core.
The tally matches the number of classes detailed to date on the game's game's official website. The 18 classes cover both combat disciplines and gathering and crafting roles.
The classes can all be mixed and matched on a single character using FFXIV's Armoury system, which bases abilities on equipment, and features no overall character level.
There are four disciplines, or groups of classes. Disciples of War are weapon-based combat classes: the Pugilist, Gladiator, Marauder, Archer and Lancer. There are just two Disciples of Magic: the Conjurer and Thaumaturge.
Disciples of the Land, or gathering classes, are the Miner, Botanist and Fisher. Disciples of the Hand are FFXIV's crafters, and there are a lot of them, with crafting apparently playing an important role in the game. Carpenter, Blacksmith, Armourer, Goldsmith, Leatherworker, Weaver, Alchemist and Culinarian are your choices here.
Square Enix says not all of these 18 classes will be available to try in the beta test before launch - but that it does plan to add more after FFXIV's PC release in September.

3D support has been extended to the entire Blu-ray Sly Collection, not just Sly 3, Sony's Jefferson Dong has revealed.
What's more, developer Sanzaru Games has added PlayStation Move mini-games to each title. We'll hear more about those "soon", said Dong on the US PlayStation blog.
Included in the Sly Collection are Blu-ray remasters of Sly Cooper and Thievius Raccoonus, Sly 2: Band of Thieves and Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves. Each of those originally PS2 games now has HD graphics and Trophies.
In the US, the Sly Collection will cost $39.99.
Sony has tried this Blu-ray remastering malarkey before, most recently on PS2 games God of War I and God of War II. The result, thankfully, was excellent,
