The last part of the puzzle has finally been made public in "assembly" format now, for the original PSJailbreak design.
The first part was done already, and that produced the USB hub, and plugging in and out, and the loading of the "payload". -- And the making of PSGroove. -- But now finally, the "payload" has been ripped apart, and make public in full assembly language, instead of just a bunch of HEXadecimal.
Quote:
1. It gets control at Exploit_Entry, which copies the rest of the payload to the fixed address 0x8000000000700000.
2. Exploit_Main copies a resident part of the payload to another location, creates virtual USB device driver called "MOD" with 3 functions, hooks some VSH functions via TOC entry and does some permanent in-ram patching. when the work is done it zeroes itself out.
3. The resident part has basically 3 purposes: (a)It manages virtual USB device, (b)It does some on-the-fly patching and (c)It hooks all the game disk file accesses from the VSH.
3a. The virtual USB device is needed to make sure the original PS3JB device in plugged in. Once the correct device is plugged (the one with the AAAAC0DE) device driver initializes the variable to 1 (see kmod_func1 - probably "identify device", and kmod_func2 - "initialize device"). If one pulls the device out, the function kmod_func3_call_panic "term device" is called which causes a kernel panic.
3b. The on-the-fly patching part of the code is probably called on virtual memory page remapping and does additional patching in-place. It identifies if the pages requires patching byte calculating it's "hash" and comparing to the table entries. One of the patches enables developer menu/settings called "category_game_tool2.xml#root" which probably enables support of the pkgs and other dev stuff.
3c. The hooks from the VSH are intended to redirect all on-BDVD file requests (or probably just "open") from VSH to the HDD saved backup. The launcher saves the base directory of the game started and after that all the file names are prepended with it. that's how the backup feature works. The LV1 still needs BDVD auth to launch the game, so the original disc in BDVD is still required.
4. Adds a Syscall (Syscall 36) which will be called by Backup Loader to activate the virtual bluray drive with the correct backed-up disk.
5. Patches the return value from Hypercall 99 so that we can launch unsigned apps.

- Create .pdb files
- Upload files to your PS3 through FTP
Requirements
————
- .Net Framework 2.0
- PS3 FTP Server
Instructions
============
You can use this tool in 2 ways:
1) Create .pdb files and upload them with an external FTP Client (e.g. Filezilla)
2) Let the tool create and upload everything directly to your PS3
1) CREATE .PDBs
—————
1) Open PSN Demo Installer
2) Press “Select PKG” button to complete the correct Content ID and Package File name (you can just type them manually but it is strongly recommended you get them from the PKG)
3) Type Package Name (the name of the demo as shown on XMB before installation)
4) Pick a Task Folder number (according to that, you should pick the final destination folder on your PS3)
5) Press “Create .pdb” and pick a folder. There will be 3 files created: d0.pdb, d1.pdb, f0.pdb.
6) Use an external FTP Client (e.g. Filezilla) to transfer those 3 files and the .pkg through PS3 FTP Server in /dev_hdd0/vsh/task/0000000x (x = the Task Folder property you picked before).
7) When files are moved to PS3, simply restart your console (without PSJailbreak/PSGroove/PSFreedom) and there will be an option for your demo installation on the XMB.Go on and install it!
2) CREATE AND UPLOAD FILES
————————–
1) Open PSN Demo Installer
2) Press “Select PKG” button to complete the correct Content ID and Package File name
3) Type Package Name (the name of the demo as shown on XMB before installation)
4) Pick a Task Folder number (you can leave it at 1 and the uploader will automatically adjust it)
5) Press “Upload Files” and the FTP Dialog will show up
6) Fill your PS3 IP Address. Before you go on, make sure your PS3 FTP Server is up and running
7) Press the “Upload” button. Wait for the files to be transfered.
8) When files are succesfully transfered (check the logs), restart your PS3 (without PSJailbreak/PSGroove/PSFreedom) and there will be an option for your demo installation on the XMB. Go on and install it!
WARNING: The “Create and Upload Files” option is easier to use, but the FTP library implemented in the application is not as fast as a dedicated FTP Client, like Filezilla. You may experience long wait times or, even, failures on PKGs with large sizes (1GB+) -due to PS3 FTP Server being extremely buggy-.
So for those of you looking to try out the latest demos, this package basically helps you install them to your PS3 via FTP once they've been downloaded to your PC.

lachrymose has released a simple homebrew game known as PS3Pong.
I give you the first Homebrew game for native GameOS. I coded it in about 12 hours. It’s not very good and I ran into some problems. Fixed soon!
- Controls: Up / down – Move
- Cross – Pause (not working)
- Bugs: Must do a hard reset on exit. Probably an easy fix.
- Next Release: 2 player!
Its better than nothing right? Not to mention, this is definitely the right direction. Hopefully we'll see more homebrew apps and games released.

During a live presentation at Sony's TGS booth happening now – it's only in Japanese, so no liveblog folks – Sony Computer Entertainment Japan president Hiroshi Kawano delivered a quick update on the PlayStation business, by means of some hardware sales numbers.
First, the PlayStation 3. Kawano revealed that Sony has sold 38 million PS3 units so far, with five million of those being in Japan. He specified that two million PS3 units were sold in Japan in the last year. Second was the PSP. Sony has sold 62 million PlayStation Portables globally, with 15 million of those being in Japan. Naturally, Kawano is bullish on the sales numbers and says there's "very positive momentum in Japan and around the world."

There's been White PS3s released before, sure. And 320GB hard drives? You bet. But together? That's a first! As seen on Sony Japan's official website, the "classic white" 320GB HDD-equipped model will sell for ¥34,980 ($410; same MSRP as the black 320GB) and comes with a single, matching DualShock 3.
Also being introduced today is a "white/blue" alternating-colors PSP. Though it won't be shipping with any games, this model visually contrasts the red and black God of War PSP (which is also being released in Japan sans God of War). Both color options go on sale November 18 for ¥17,800 ($208).
Neither the White PS3 Slim nor the blue/white PSP has been announced for North American release, but we're hoping the folks at SCEA realize that North Americans like clean design choices too!

According to an interview with Netherrealm Studios executive producer Shaun Himmerick conducted by Industry Gamers, not only does the PSP2 exist, but it's already in developers' hands. When asked about the possibility of the Mortal Kombat reboot heading to PSP or 3DS, Himmerick replied, "We're not launching day one on all consoles like that. We are looking at them; we have a PSP2 in the house and we're looking at the engine, like what can it support."
Wait -- the PSP2, you say? "PSP2 looks like it's a pretty powerful machine," Himmerick added, before saying that his studio doesn't have a 3DS just yet. Sony, as you might imagine, refused to comment.

PlayStation 3 will be upgraded next week to support 3D Blu-ray movies as part of a package of new features to be introduced in firmware 3.50, Sony has announced.
While 3D gaming and the displays themselves have been available for several months now, the volume of 3D movie content is surprisingly lacking, with tent-pole titles such as Avatar being delayed until closer to Christmas. The new firmware for PS3 is a welcome shot in the arm however, as all 38 million units on the market worldwide can be software-upgraded to support the new standard.
The move to support Blu-ray 3D comes at a price, however. According to specs dug up by HomeTechTell, and now removed from the source, 3D Blu-ray movies are unable to simultaneously support the BD-J Java programming language while running stereoscopic content.
This may impact the creativity and ingenuity of Blu-ray 3D authors looking to add bonus content to their discs, and also suggests the latest DRM systems manufacturers have in place running via BD-J will need to be scaled back in order to make their discs compatible with the PlayStation 3.
Additional features over and above the 3D support are promised, with the platform holder revealing specifics in the run-up to the firmware's release on September 21.

Sony Computer Entertainment boss Kaz Hirai has claimed the PlayStation 3 has accrued 30 million sign-ups for online service PSN.
While Hirai did not specify how many of these were active accounts as opposed to registrations, it equates to roughly 80 per cent of 38 million PS3s sold worldwide.
Hirai told Reuters at TGS that Sony hoped to bump this up to 100 per cent of PlayStation 3 users.
By contrast, Microsoft's Xbox Live sported 23 million users as this February, but unlike PSN many of these pay a subscription fee.
The SCE CEO also asserted his belief that the firm would meet its target of 15 million PlayStation 3 sales from March 2009 to March 2010.
"As of the end of August, sales look a bit better than we expected," he said.
He also denied that the PlayStation Portable range might see a 3D version any time soon, and in a careful swipe at Kinect claimed that motion controllers were best used in tandem with traditional input devices.

With a wide assorted of supported titles at launch and plenty more in the pipeline, Move has the ability to please those core fans as well as appeal to this new social gaming audience
But is going after two audiences a risky strategy? Could Move become a jack-of-all-trades master of none?
Sony’s European studio chief Michael Denny doesn’t think so.
“We have our own clear strategy,” he told MCV. “When you go back to PlayStation 2 and the experience we had with EyeToy Play – that was fantastic for bringing in the more casual audience, but we were limited to how many different things we could do without accurate control.
“So this time round with Move, we have the camera, augmented reality, high definition graphics and we also have the precision and accuracy of the controller. We can do many different things with that controller. I think it is about the implementation of that into specific games. So no, our strategy is very clear and we are very confident that we have the games that will appeal to the different consumers.”

Tomorrow marks the arrival of PlayStation Move on the UK High Street – and perhaps it’s not surprising to see Tesco undercutting the rest of the market to offer the new controller at the lowest price.
Online portal Tesco Direct is currently selling the PlayStation Move Starter Pack for just £39.70. Furthermore, consumer advice site SavyGamer points out that the use of an online voucher can bring the total price of both the Start Pack and Navigation Controller for just £53.70.
And there’s no postage charge for those who choose to collect the order from their nearest Tesco store.
Other competitive prices on the Starter Pack include SimplyGames (£41.85), ShopTo (£42.85) and The Game Collection (£43.99).

Sony has stated that it’s on track to sell the 15m units it had forecast in the year ending March 2011 and that the machine is now selling at a better rate than the company had forecast.
“As of the end of August, sales look a bit better than we expected,” SCE president Kaz Hirai told Reuters.
In addition, the exec added that 38m PS3 consoles have now been sold and that 80 per cent of them – or 30.4m – are now connected to the PlayStation Network. In January Microsoft stated that 23m Xbox 360 owners were connected to Xbox Live.

That’s it. You found a user mode exploit in a game, you were able to write a binary loader, so now what next? Well, as you probably know if you’ve gone that far, the PSP scene doesn’t really like “hello worlds”. A hello world is nice, but it accomplishes nothing, it just draws Sony’s attention to your exploit, and you know the vulnerability will be patched soon, while nobody really used the exploit.
Well, the next step is, ideally, a HEN or a custom firmware. Of course, this requires a kernel exploit, and we know how these are difficult to find. A much more doable task, that will make lots of people happy, is to port HBL to your exploit. HBL opens the door to lots of legal contents on unhackable PSPs, and we designed it so that porting it to your game exploit can be done fairly easily.
This tutorial is valid at the time of its writing, for all games, and up to firmware 6.31. In theory, HBL will work on future firmwares, but of course new kinds of security might be introduced in new firmwares. Additionally, depending on your game, the quality of syscall estimations (and therefore, the compatibility and speed of homebrews) might vary.

News from DCEmu Member and Coder Uberjack
Things are starting to settle somewhat since my move to Southern California, and that can only mean one thing – time to speculate.
PSP fans may be happy to learn that version 1.3.1 of SMS Plus PSP should be out soon. It fixes a handful of issues, and includes support for a few games that are unplayable in 1.2.x. It’s completed already, but there are issues with saved games that need to be worked out. VICE PSP should also receive a maintenance update shortly afterward.
Those of you who urged me to take another stab at an Atari ST emulator – thanks; I will most likely do that next – this time with something other than Castaway. It’s not easy to abandon the emulation of the system that synthesized one of my favorite chiptunes.
As far as OpenSpark – I’ve decided to begin making milestone-type releases, instead of finishing all the features at once. Next release will bring many of the stability fixes and smaller improvements done since 1.2, as well as auto-updates in the vein of gsDroid. Notifications will follow in another release, and widgets in yet another. PSN support will be given the least priority – I’m actually hoping that someone will eventually join the project and tackle it, as I may not be able to any time soon.

There’s now a method of using PIC microcontrollers to exploit the PlayStation 3. This is centered around a PIC 18F2550 which has been popular in past hacks because of its built-in USB serial port. This again makes use of the PSGroove open source exploit code and, like the TI calculator version, seeks to expand the selection of hardware the code runs on.
In addition to the chip and a PIC programmer you’ll need the CCS compiler as others cannot successfully compile this code. A licensed copy is necessary because the demo version of the CCS compiler doesn’t support this particular chip. Add to that the fact that because of the timing it may take several tries to achieve the exploit and you may find yourself disappointed by this development. But there’s always room for improvement and this is a proven first step on the new architecture.

Retro Recycle - The Beginning is a physics puzzle game for the Playstation Portable console.
Try to shoot rocks at classic game characters and other objects to shred them into pieces by buzz saws. Stupid dialogues included.
The soundtrack is made by Richie_K / Strange Rollers Hardcorelives Records
Note
If you get stuck (out of shots) in a level, press Start and you can retry the level. (thanks Yamagushi for pointing out that this is not too clear for starters)

The PSP has passed another sales milestone, reaching 15 million units sold in Japan, according to Famitsu parent company Enterbrain.
The sales have been boosted by retail performance from massive domestic success Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G, which has achieved 2,453,132 full price sales, with 3,984,597 units being sold in total if budget versions of the game are included, Andriasang reports.
The PSP still has some distance to cover before catching up with the sales figures for the DS, however. At the time the PSP passed 15 million, Nintendo's handheld had sold 31,039,215 units in its various guises in Japan.
