Nine top-forty entrants with two games top of the pile
PlayStation Vita games had accounted for a quarter of the UK top 40 chart, new sales data reveals.
The latest Sony handheld was released at retail last week with more than twenty packaged launch titles on offer.
Two of those, SCE’s Uncharted Golden Abyss and EA’s FIFA Football, landed first and second place in the all-format chart. Another seven made the top 40, with Rayman Origins Vita landing at fifth, far above EA’s new console entry Syndicate.

Jacked' author promises to 'lift the veil of secrecy' at Rockstar; Develop to publish two-page excerpt in April
A new unauthorised book on the development of Rockstar’s blockbuster Grand Theft Auto series is to be released next month.
Written by journalist David Kushner, 'Jacked' uncovers what took place during the creation of one of the biggest franchises in gaming and those responsible for making it happen.
At 300 pages long, and what the author claims brings together ten years of research, the book promises to “lift the veil of secrecy around the team to show how a blend of creative genius, daring PR campaigns, big egos and an obsessive work ethic all came together to create a monster with a tendency to spiral out of control".
'Jacked' will be released on March 15th in paperback and digital download.
Kushner has previously worked on publications such as the Wired, The New York Times Magazine and GQ.

Jpcsp SVN r2459 is compiled. JPCSP is the most advanced PlayStation Portable(PSP) emulator, allowing you to play your PSP games on a PC. Even though Jpcsp is written in Java, it can already reach 100% PSP speed on a lot of commercial games... and the emulator performance is constantly increasing. Jpcsp takes full advantage of dual-core processors, matching the PSP dual-core architecture. Even a quad-core can give a small performance improvement by leaving free CPU cores for the Java JIT Compiler and the graphics cache.
Jpcsp SVN changelog:
r2459
Software rendering:
- new finding: depth buffer is only updated when the GU_DEPTH_TEST flag is enabled (tested with 3DStudio).
- use of Rasterizer also for 2D triangle (faster)
- small optimizations
- added new statistics to better identify bottlenecks

Okay, to a few of you this may not be “news” as it has been around for about nine months, but I just found it and it wasn’t listed here on Romhacking so I figured I would get the word out.
The Playstation official remake of Langrisser IV has been fully translated into English by Kil over at El Sallia! Check it out and have fun watching many nameless troops clash under the command of your heroes and feel accomplished when your heroes advance to the next class.

via http://wololo.net/wagic/2012/02/24/s...-on-with-vhbl/
Two days ago, the Playstation Vita was officially released in Europe and in the US. If you follow this blog, you know I’ve been bragging a lot recently about how we can run PSP homebrew on the Vita, using VHBL, through an exploit in the PSP emulator.
I’ve also said I would wait for the EU/US release of the Vita before releasing this port of HBL. It’s already been two days, Wololo, so what the F…?
Well, if you have a good memory, you’ll also remember that I mentioned many times how this exploit would be easy to patch, and how a public release of HBL would directly lead to sony patching the vulnerability(ies) involved in this hack. And I’m still convinced this will happen, but I’ve decided to fight against this the best possible way I could think of. I cannot disclose too much details, but trust me when I say I’ve rarely been as active as in the past two days, in order to make sure this HBL release is happening smoothly. You guys are worried of getting the hack or not, I on the other hand, am worried of getting thousands of people to buy a game and see Sony patch the exploit before anybody can use it (that’s waaay too much pressure for a simple PSP homebrew loader). This risk exists, and I am trying my best to minimize it. The process is going on (things such as, actually testing VHBL on non Japanese versions of the game,…), and I cannot stress enough that lots of the details cannot be described for now, but hopefully when the release happens you guys will understand what I’ve tried to do. I’m not pretending I can outsmart Sony, or that my plan will work flawlessly, but I’ll try my best. Some things, so far, are going very smoothly, others are not, Sony took some steps (maybe unknowingly) that will make HBL more difficult to run for some people, but again I cannot give too much details on that.
People are asking me if I can give a precise date of “when” I will announce the name of the game and/or release the HBL files. The answer to that is no, for various reasons, because the fuzziness here is part of my humble plan. I’m just saying it will happen, this whole thing is not a fake, and I’m doing my best for it to happen as soon as possible.
Some people are asking me if I can at least give hints on the price, or the quality of the game, or stuff like that… I’m sorry, I can’t. I know it’s important to some of you, to plan your PSN card purchases, etc, but to me (that’s a really personal opinion because I am deeply involved in this release) it’s important to not mess this up. Maybe I could give some hints now, maybe it wouldn’t be too big a deal, but many people, not only me, have kept this exploit a secret for a looong time, so I would hate myself if I completely screw up this release (I’m using the opportunity to thank the few people who know about this exploit and haven’t leaked anything yet, it’s great to be able to trust you guys, you know who you are). To give a better example, if you send me 3 emails from 3 different addresses and ask me 3 different questions about the price, you could probably narrow it down to a list of a few games, and I can’t know if you work for Sony or something… Keep in mind that I don’t care, I have the exploit already, so I’m not doing this (not giving the price) because I hate you or anything.
Some people are afraid that they’ll go to bed, and when they wake up it’s too late because Sony patched the exploit. Yes, this could happen, but the release process I have in mind aims at making this unlikely. I’m hoping the time between me making this public and Sony taking any measure will be a matter of days rather than hours. I’m thinking, among other things, about what happened for the hot shots golf exploit, where Sony actually took weeks to fix the issue. After all, they were selling a game, and nobody was doing any piracy, so maybe at that time they understood it was a win-win situation. Bottom line, don’t stop sleeping for this, I would feel really bad about that!
One thing is clear to me: some people won’t have access to this exploit. What I’m doing now is my best to make sure that people who are following this blog these days will get access to the exploit. Among other things, I am trying to find a balance between releasing this as soon as possible, but also not screw people who are still waiting for the Vita to actually be shipped to their place.
A final word: what I will be distributing is just HBL, a loader for psp homebrews. You can already run PSP homebrews from a regular PSP, with a better compatibility rate, and for a cheaper price. So please, don’t get too excited. I don’t want people to come back at me after they try it, and tell me “wow, it’s difficult to use, I’m constantly afraid that Sony will patch it so I’m never using the PSN anymore, only half of the homebrews I tried are working, and this doesn’t have any access to the Vita hardware…”. Yes, I’m aware of that, and I’m sure much better and convenient hacks will come in the future, so please, please, keep that in mind when you get (or not) access to the info.
Many of you have waited for weeks for this release, I’m asking everyone to be just a little more patient, thanks a lot for your understanding

Developer Yosh (a.k.a. wth) recently found another savegame exploit on a PSP game, which he confirmed to work on the vita (video below).
It is also my understanding that he’s been making good progress on porting HBL to this exploit on the PS Vita. The usefulness of this will mostly depend on what happens after the first release of VHBL, a homebrew Loader for the PS Vita, scheduled for … soon.

Our friend website daxhordes.org got an early copy of VHBL and confirmed for me that VHBL works fine with the EU version of the exploit on a European PS Vita. (For those who worry that this is a fake or a leak, that copy of VHBL was sent by me to m0skit0, and I agreed that daxhordes could publish an article and photos on the subject). Here are the screenshots, which also reveal the cool new wMenu/VHBL background (thanks to Monsieur2T2R for these great designs).
The release is near, please just a bit more patience (and again, I can give no date, just know that it’s coming)
Note: no, I don’t know why the Doom background looks messed up, it didn’t do that in my tests, hopefully that’s just a minor glitch

PS Vita is - for now - very much a hardcore gaming device for hardcore gamers, the developer behind one of its launch titles has claimed.Sony hopes to expand Vita's audience, particularly among younger games, but for A-Men developer Bloober Team, this will be impossible as long as it current price remains."They are getting too greedy at the moment," creative director and vice-president Piotr Bielatowicz told Eurogamer."Their message originally was, this is a hardcore console. Then, as the launched approached, they started thinking, okay, maybe we make this attractive to women and casual gamers."But, the market will verify this very quickly, because no casual gamer will buy a £280 device with £40 games."Vita launched this week in two flavours: the Wi-Fi only model is sold for around £230 and the Wi-Fi plus 3G model goes for about £280, although many retailers have aggressive offers.SCE UK & Ireland boss Fergal Gara told Eurogamer Sony priced Vita "as attractively as we could afford". He refused to confirm it will cut the price this year, but did say Sony will try to improve it over time.Sony's Vita game pricing has also come under scrutiny. Uncharted, for example, carries a £45 RRP, although you can get it cheaper from most shops.Bloober's A-Men is a downloadable 2D platform strategy game inspired by Blizzard's Lost Vikings and Lemmings. It is the Polish developer's Vita debut, and a game its creators freely admit is aimed squarely at hardcore gamers. This, Bielatowicz said, suits Vita."It's a platform for hardcore players, so it's a perfect fit for us," Bielatowicz continued."Actually, I believe our game and Vita will have the same lifecycle. It will have an average start because it's expensive and there aren't many titles in the beginning. But, it will have a solid run and a very long lifecycle. It will be like PS3."The Wii was like, this. Now it's over. The games have performed poorly for some time now. PS3 is just warmed up and it still has the best two or three years ahead of it."Gara said it is important for Sony that Vita gets off to "a strong start", but it is more important the console enjoys "a very strong" first year and first Christmas."Week one is important, but it's not the whole story."

Capcom's classic Darkstalkers 3 will soon save vampires via the PlayStation Network, assuming that we're correctly inferring the ESRB's recently administered Teen rating for PlayStation 3 and Vita versions of the title. We suppose it's not a physical impossibility that Capcom would rerelease boxed versions of a 14 year old fighter, but we're hedging our bets on digital distribution.
Originally released in 1998, Darkstalkers 3 (or Vampire Savior: EX Edition in Japan) is the third title in the Darkstalkers series, after Darkstalkers: The Night Warriors (also available on PSN) and Night Warriors: Darkstalkers' Revenge. While it may not be the contemporary series reboot we pray for every night, we suppose a PSN rerelease is better than no brand movement at all. Still, we can't help but sigh wistfully whenever we see Morrigan in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. So close, and yet, so far.

One of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3's biggest selling points on the Vita is the fact that all of the console version's DLC carries over; costumes, characters, the whole nine yards. Well, that was the plan, at any rate. So far, the Jill Valentine, Shuma-Gorath and Costume Pack 1 DLC add-ons have been missing on Sony's plucky little handheld.
Thankfully, the issue is not permanent and should be resolved during the Vita's next weekly update on Tuesday, February 28. As it turns out, the fact that Jill, Shuma and Costume Pack 1 exist in both Ultimate MvC3 and regular ol' MvC3threw a monkey wrench into the system, preventing the aforementioned content from making the jump from console to handheld.

It's the first weekend with your Vita and you've spent the entire time together, touching, sliding, swiping, tapping the back... Oh, yeah. You know more about each other than any other device you've played with previously, but there's always more to learn. Sony has compiled a list of nine tips and tricks for the Vita that may make your life together easier -- as long as you put the toilet seat down, Harold. No really, that's one of the tips.
The list in includes Sony's tricks, but the comments offer a few more gems, such as pressing the plus and minus volume buttons to mute all sound on your Vita. You can also mute it by yelling at the top of your lungs, "Shut up, Vita!" Really, try that one on a crowded bus some time.

Sony has removed the Vita Facebook application from both US and Europe PSN Stores following reports from owners of error codes when trying to access the social network on the device.
Vita owners have been unable to log in to Facebook for much of the day, with error code NP-13144-3 appearing after apparent successful log-ins that subsequently forces the application to close.
The app was originally pulled from the Europe store only, but later was removed from the US store when reports turned out to be more widespread.
Sony claimed the problem was on Facebook's end, and that they're working with the service to try to resolve it.
"We are currently looking into this to restore [the app] to normal operational status," a Sony rep explained while speaking with Joystiq. "We will announce further details when ready."

All about 'connected experience' for Ericsson-less handset maker.
The Xperia P and Xperia U join the Xperia S in the Xperia NXT series, which is Sony's family of next generation smartphones.
As before, the new devices come bundled with the film and music streaming services, Video Unlimited and Music Unlimited, and are designed to work with the related offerings on TV and PC.
Both Android phones have design features including the "transparent element" – a band that encircles the base of the phone and also integrates invisible antenna components.
It illuminates when receiving calls, texts and notifications.
The pair also boast Reality Display powered by Mobile BRAVIA display engine and 1 GHz dual-core processors

Sony has acknowledged an issue preventing members of the PlayStation Plus subscription service from playing Minis on PS Vita.
Several users have posted about the issue on the PlayStation forums. While Minis given away to PS Plus members can be downloaded and installed on Vita systems, players are met with an error message when they try to load a game.
A Sony spokesperson told us: "We are aware of the issue, and will resolve it as quickly as possible."
Launched in 2009, Minis are playable on PS3, PSP and Vita. PlayStation Plus members typically receive one of the bite-sized downloadable games each month.

Sony to release multiplayer as a free download for PS3
Sony has announced that the multiplayer portions of Killzone 3 will be available as a free download on PSN.
PlayStation 3 owners will be able to access three game modes, all maps and DLC packs, and level up to the tenth rank: Sergeant.
Players can continue to progress through all 45 ranks, unlocking trophies and weapons, if they purchase the multiplayer portion of the game for $14.99, or buy the full game, which includes a single player campaign.
World of Warcraft offers a similar free-to-play structure, capping unpaid accounts at level 20.
Ars Technica reported that the company had announced other features over the PlayStation Blogcast, such as double experience events available only to paid accounts, and double experience for the first twenty-four hours after purchase.

You might have downloaded Flickr and Twitter last night, but your Vita's social (networking) life was still missing one crucial component as of yesterday: a dedicated Facebook app. Well, now that's been taken care of, as you can head to the PlayStation Store and download the app.
The official PlayStation Facebook page notes that the app is "only" 12 megabytes, so bear that in mind when considering how best to fill your valuable, valuable memory card.
