Publisher doesn't 'count out' the possibility of a sequel after Team Bondi's closure.
Rockstar Games may plan to follow the success of L.A. Noire with a sequel.
Despite the closure of the developer Team Bondi following allegations of employee mismanagement, the franchise could see a follow up in the future.
"We're all very pleased with how that game turned out and are considering what the future may hold for L.A. Noire as a series." wrote a Rockstar spokesperson on the company website.
L.A. Noire released last year, and recieved a great deal of attention from press and consumers alike, but accusations of brutal work conditions at Team Bondi as the game neared completion drew enough negative press that administrators decided to close the studio.
Rockstar is currently developing a fifth Grand Theft Auto game, and a second sequel to Max Payne.

Gaming platform is expandable says firm's senior VP.
Thus far, Sony's latest handheld gaming device, the PlayStation Vita, is only available in Japan, with an international release taking place on February 22nd.
Despite its lack of presence, rumours are already circulating about the compatibility of the Vita OS on mobile devices.
According to AV Watch, at a Q&A session, Sony's senior VP Yoshio Matsumoto, said : "If you're asking if we've made it [the Vita OS] in a way that's expandable, so that it's possible to apply to smartphones and tablets on top of achieving the high responsiveness we need for gaming devices — it is possible."
Sony, of course, is an old hand at mobile gaming, as demonstrated with its Xperia Play device, which offers over 200 games.
Sony broke off its ten-year partnership from Ericsson last year, in a bid to compete in the smartphone space and a Vita-based gaming OS could certainly have the potential to make that happen against the likes of leaders iOS and Android.

[source: rebug.me] LV2 Loader is a tool for devs to allow the quick testing of modified lv2_kernel.self by launching it from the root of dev_flash without the risk of bricking the PS3 or need for a flasher if the new kernel does not work. The app will run on any 3.15, 3.41, 3.55 CEX or DEX firmware that has lv1 mmap and lv2 peek and poke patches. It also has udp_printf support which will return the offset of the lv2 boot path in lv1 and a little bit of info about what it is doing. It works by searching lv1 memory for the lv2_kernel.self boot path then modifying it to point to the root of dev_flash instead. After it finishes searching and patching the path LV2 Loader will reboot lv2 gameos without rebooting lv1. If the app has already been ran once and the user attempts to run it again before rebooting lv1 or the current lv2 kernel does not have peek and poke it will return you to the XMB.

via http://psp.dashhacks.com/2012/02/09/...league-its-own
In a discovery of the disappointing kind, PS Vita gamers with purchased PS1/PSP content online have found that the Vita and PSP are classified under the same activation count.
If you own any amount of PSP's and have game shared up to the limit (5 consoles, 2 for newer games) then anything you choose to download to the PS Vita will be denied due to the activation limit being reached.
I have covered the topic moreso on PS Vita-Hacks here, but as well as myself, many others I discussed this with thought it was safe to assume the PS Vita was in a league of its own in terms of activation counts.
Best you go and choose your activated PSP's wisely, and save a slot for your Vita. You will need it.

via http://wololo.net/wagic/2012/02/03/v...e-will-happen/
As the release of the PS Vita in the US and the EU gets closer, I’m getting an increasing amount of requests from people about HBL on the vita. I did post a FAQ a few weeks ago, but people still seem to have questions. When will it be released? Will it allow to run PSP isos? Will it work with a demo like for the patapon 2 exploit? Does it support this or that homebrew? etc…
Let me try to answer some of these questions, with more up-to-date answers.
First of all, the easy ones: VHBL (that’s the super new cool name of HBL on the Vita, I’ll let you guess what the V means, I know, I’m super original) will not support loading PSP isos. Basically VHBL will have the same limitations and features as HBL on the PSP, and, last time I checked, running psp isos was not possible through HBL. The same HBL limitations apply to compatible homebrews. In a general way, user mode homebrews should work for the most part, while homebrews that require kernel access will not work. For now (but that could change), homebrews requiring network access might not work (or at least, the network part of them will not work). Like in the patapon exploit era, it is possible, depending on the success of VHBL, that we progressively increase compatibility if we (as a community) keep improving the HBL code in the weeks following the release. Oh, and I am talking about PSP homebrews, running in HBL within the PSP emulator. So, for now, don’t dream about a full speed N64 or psp2 emulator. What we’ll get are the PSP homebrews that you already know.
Second, the vulnerability we rely on to run VHBL is a vulnerability in a PSP full Game, not a Demo. This means you will have to buy that game on the PSN in order to run VHBL (just like in the good old days of GTA:LCS for the first eLoader on the PSP). This also means that as soon as we reveal the name of that game, Sony can probably remove it from the PSN and/or patch it.
This leads to the most asked question: when and how will this be released? Well, I have a basic idea on how the release will happen. Nothing spectacular but it should hopefully be enough to guarantee that people who are really motivated in getting their hands on HBL on their Vita will get it. I’m hoping that constantly reminding people that this doesn’t allow the to run any pirated content will attract the right people to this exploit, and not the 95% of pirates that define any console hacking scene these days
In the past weeks I’ve been polishing the release process, and I can’t predict the future, but hopefully it will go well.
Nevertheless, getting access to this exploit for you guys will be a matter of being at the right place, at the right time.
For now I’m thinking Sony’s reaction wil be to remove the game from the PSN within 24h of the public announcement. Worst case scenario, Sony is already aware of the vulnerability and have already patched the game. This is unfortunately not something I can test without getting any more guinea pigs… these guinea pigs will basically be you when the release happens, I can’t really do any better than that. Obviously, the release will not happen like your typical hack release (a dramatic article on every news site of the planet copying the hacker’s initial blog post). It will be, I expect, a bit more subtle than that.

If you're rocking in your seat in excitement for Vita's launch, you might want to be prepared with some game to play on it.
NeoGAF posters have discovered that at least five Vita games are already available for download via the US PSN - including Uncharted and WipEout. While not visible via the normal menus, slapping in a search for them will reveal the goods, and you can purchase and download them now, ready for the arrival of your shiny console later this month.
Better still, if you already have a Japanese Vita and are waiting for English-language games, you can download the Vita titles to your PS3 and transfer them via USB cable to your console. The US downloads are thankfully fully playable on Japanese units.
Here are the game found and their prices (which includes a currently available 10 percent discount):
Uncharted (3.2 GB) $45 ($50 MSRP)
Hot Shots (1.15 GB) $36 ($40 MSRP)
WipEout 2048 (1.6GB) $36 ($40 MSRP)
Super Stardust Delta (208 MB) $10 - PSN title
Modnation Racers Road trip (1.5 GB) $27 ($30 MSRP)

Sony has released a list of the PSP title currently available via the US PSN. Why? Because you can only play digital PSP games on your UMD-less Vita.
The PS Blog says there are 275 PSP games available to download on your Vita, although only 155 of those are full retail titles - the rest are Minis.
We also only count 117 Minis, which makes a total of 272 in actual math, but we're just nitpicking. The full list is below, and Sony promises that "more PSP titles will be made available for PS Vita play in the coming weeks".
PSP games can either be downloaded directly to your Vita via PSN, or downloaded to your PS3 and transferred over via USB cable.
Unfortunately, US-based gamers (and it seems likely that EU also) will not have access to the nifty UMD passport program that allows Japanese Vita owners to download digital versions of UMD games that they own for a small fee.PSP Titles

Sony has unveiled the first two "Discovery Apps" bound for Vita later this year.Theses apps are "designed to showcase the unique features of PS Vita through innovative interactive experiences," according to a post from Sony product manager Mayumi Donovan on the PlayStation Blog.First up, Frobisher Says is a "surreal party game" in which you have to obey orders barked by the titular "strange little man". There are 50 minigames in total, utilising all of the Vita's various features.Take a look at the trailer below - we challenge you to make it all the way through to the end. Then there's t@g, which lets you graffiti virtual tags all over the real world using the system's GPS functions. You'll be able to track down other Vita owner's tags, pick up points and rewards for being particularly prolific and attempt to climb online leaderboards. You'll need a 3G-enabled Vita to enjoy this one. Again, trailer below. Both apps will be free to download from the PlayStation Store in May, though Frobisher Says will be available as a pre-order incentive from 22nd February.

Game Rating Board, South Korea's premiere games rating board, has listed another entry in the Magic: The Gathering series of games, presumably for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 again. As things look, Stainless Games and Wizards of the Coast have no plans of stopping the annual installments.
It shouldn't come as much of a surprise: both the original Duels of the Planeswalkers and Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012 performed well, the former having sold over 500,000 copies on XBLA, while the latter was one of PSN's top performers last year. Considering both previous installments launched in the summer, we're betting we'll be hearing about Duels 2013 soon.

In the first hours of Yakuza: Dead Souls, I witnessed the fictional Kamurocho neighborhood of Tokyo's red-light district becoming ravaged by a zombie nightmare, with wrecked buildings, flaming cars, and thousands of hungry undead taking to the streets.
With the help of a DVD store's secret weapons cache, altruistic loan shark Shun Akiyama becomes a dual-pistol-wielding killing machine, cutting a path through the horde of former businessmen, students, and gangsters to get help for his sick assistant Hana.
Though the premise seems (and is) absurd, and there's little sense to making a zombie shooter out of a series best known for its uncanny representation of a realistic Tokyo, I couldn't help but appreciate the care Sega put into setting up the adaptation. Every change to gameplay, environments, or story required to adapt the game into a shooter shows evidence of deliberation and forethought. It's not just a matter of adding zombies and guns. Sega took its assignment very seriously, even though Yakuza: Dead Souls delivers its entertainment in a campy, b-movie way.

Codemasters has announced that it's releasing a "Complete Edition" of Dirt 3, due out sometime this March for Windows, Xbox 360, and the PS3. The $39.99 release will include the full game, 12 new tracks in two different new locations and lots of new cars and liveries to play around with.
The two new tracks run through the snowy mountain roads of the Alps and some urban streets in Shibuya, Tokyo, and the new cars include the BMW M3 Rally, the Ford Escort Mk II and the Mini Cooper S Gymkhana, in addition to a slew of others. You can see a few shots of the game below, and read the entire press release after the break.

Today's lucky beggar award goes to Graham Innes in Canada, who wrote in to tell us that he found aPlayStation Vita sitting on his doorstep. It wasn't a total surprise, since he'd ordered one from Amazon, but what's weird is just how soon it arrived -- the early-bird First Edition doesn't launch until February 15th and the general release is a whole week after that. We're not sure what Graham did to deserve this, but we do know from our Joystiq buddies that he's not the only one -- Amazon.ca has apparently sent out a few of these premature parcels. If the injustice burns, console yourself with the thought that Graham and his blessed compatriots probably can't access the store to download any games.
Update: Graham emailed again. He has store access. He has games. Joyousness.

Benchmark credit rating service Standard and Poor's has reduced Sony's rating from A- to BBB+, warning that only the unlikely event of an upturn in the next 6-12 months would save the rating from dropping further.
S&P's identified falling prices, falling demand and tough competition as the major factors affecting the company's chances of swift recovery.
"The outlook on the long-term corporate credit rating is negative," read a statement detailing the changes. "We base the downgrade on our view that severe circumstances in Sony's mainstay electronics businesses make a strong recovery in earnings unlikely.
"We base the negative outlook on the long-term corporate credit rating on our expectation that we could lower the ratings further if we see no meaningful sign of a recovery in Sony's earnings within six to 12 months."
Whilst the short-term forecast for Sony was bleak, based largely on the difficult conditions faced in the TV and smartphone markets, S&P's do see the company recovering long-term.
"Because of continuing net losses since fiscal 2008, Sony's profitability looks significantly weaker than that of its global industry peers. In addition, we believe its ratio of adjusted debt to EBITDA is likely to remain high for the next one to two years, even for companies in the 'BBB' category. Standard & Poor's also believes Sony's adjusted total debt to capital (excluding finance operations) will rise to around 40% as of March 31, 2012, from 35% a year earlier.
"However, we base our one-notch downgrade on our view that Sony's profitability and financial standing will gradually recover in fiscal 2012 because there will be no repeat of one-off expenses due to floods in Thailand and impairment losses on stockholdings. Also, we believe Sony's strong short-term liquidity (excluding finance operations) continues to support its financial stability."
In its last financial report, Sony predicted losses of ¥220 billion for the year.

Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida admits that Team Ico has been forced into "scrapping and rebuilding" long-awaited PS3 exclusive The Last Guardian to ensure it fits director Fumito Ueda's vision.
"The project has been making progress, but slow progress," Yoshida told 1UP at this week's DICE Summit in Las Vegas. "So that's tough, but we haven't changed any focus.
"It's still a really important project and a vision we want to see realised, and Fumito's vision is really causing a very difficult challenge for the developers, so there's some scrapping and rebuilding, iteration in the process."
In December it emerged that Ueda had quit Sony, and was completing work on The Last Guardian on a freelance basis. Yoshida insists, however, that Ueda is as committed to the project as ever, and that he hopes the Ico and Shadow Of The Colossuscreator will continue to work with Sony after The Last Guardian is finally completed.
"He was an employee, and now he's working on a contract basis," Yoshida said. "We discussed an arrangement so he could focus on the creative side. But his work and his presence on that team never changed, so it was just more a contractual rearrangement.
"He comes in every day, and he's probably one of the people who works the longest hours. If this project goes well - you know, fingers crossed - we've worked with him for a long time so yeah, I certainly hope we can maintain a relationship."
First announced at E3 in 2009, The Last Guardian was due to be released in 2011. Last April, Ueda announced the game would be delayed to 2012 to ensure "better quality of content."

Sony has posted a how-to guide on downloading PSP titles to the PlayStation Vita and, along with it, a list of the 275 PSP titles and Minis that will be compatible with the Vita at launch. Obviously, it's a pretty hefty lineup, though some favorites are certainly missing, including Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker,Valkyria Chronicles 2, Lumines and others.
That said, Sony promises more titles will be added in "the coming weeks." Head over to the US PlayStation Blog for the current list. And, before you ask, yes, of courseDragon's Lair is compatible.
Update: A couple of industry tweets reveal that some games not mentioned on the official list are already compatible with the Vita, notably Valkyria Chronicles 2 and PixelJunk Monsters Deluxe. It would appear that Sony's official list may not be entirely comprehensive. Then again, the public won't actually get its hands on the Vita for another week, so maybe there's still some tweaking going on.
