Irvine, CA (AHN) - Target Technology has filed a lawsuit against Sony, alleging the entertainment company's Blu-ray disc format infringed a patent lowering the cost of optical discs. The lawsuit, filed in Southern Indiana U.S. District Court, requests a permanent injunction and damages.
Blu-ray discs are used by Sony's PS3 and high-definition DVDs. The Target patent enables the reflective layer of optical discs to use silver-based alloys rather than more expensive gold. The silver-based material is also more corrosive-resistant, according to Cnet's GameSpot.
The lawsuit doesn't say whether all or just some Blu-ray discs infringed the patent. Target was granted the patent in March 2006 after it was filed in 2004.
Sony declined comment, Cnet reported Friday.

2 new demos have also been released for the 2 Airport Hero games released in Japan. The names of the games are:
Boku wa Koukuu Kanseikan: Airport Hero NaHa
Boku wa Koukuu Kanseikan: Airport Hero New Chitose
Buy Boku wa Koukuu Kanseikan: Airport Hero NaHa
Buy Boku wa Koukuu Kanseikan: Airport Hero New Chitose
Heres a review posted on play asia:
This is one of the most addictive PSP games I've played in a long while. Being an aviation buff, there are very few options in regards to English language video games in this genre. Although the main language of this game is Japanese, there is enough English to figure out whats going on after a couple of trial and error test runs. The game play and graphics are marvelous. The colors are remarkably bright, and the effects of the sun sparkling off of the blue water while watching a plane arrive at the airpiort is amazing. A fun puzzle-like game for all ages. Also, be sure to check out the 2 other versions of this game representing different airports (Narita & Chitose)!

If you live in Japan and you're a GTA fan, you're frequently frustrated. Why? Because for whatever reason, it takes a while for certain installments to get over there, and the PSP hit, Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories is no exception. The game is finally set for release on July 26 in Japan...and no, we're not talking about the sequel.
This is two years late; GTA: LCS released in the U.S. way back in 2005, but we suppose late is better than never. Capcom is always the publisher for the GTA titles over in Japan, and they apparently don't have the games high on their priority list. That's very weird, though, considering the Grand Theft Auto series is plenty popular over there. Let's hope Japanese gamers will be getting Grand Theft Auto IV a little sooner; waiting until 2009 would be downright unacceptable.

Apart from the obvious facts like a delayed launch, the removal of the PS2's Emotion Engine chip (to reduce production costs) and a higher price tag, it seems the short fall for PS3 owners in Europe continues.
While the US and Japanese Playstation Store's are bursting at the seams with goodies, gamers in the EU are starting to feel rather left out. Being a Friday the store was due it's weekly update and there was a certain sense of excitement about what we could be getting.
Well the store has now been updated and what do we get?
Calling all Cars - Trailer! (not the game like the Jap and US stores have, a TRAILER!)
flOw - Trailer! (I see a pattern here)
Spiderman 3 - Trailer!
End of update! So we get an update consisting of 3 Trailers! Pretty crap considering the amount of content the other stores are continualy getting. It's like openning your christmas presents to find nothing but socks, a scarf and a hat (actually that would be more exciting)
There's no reason why they can't release the same content on all stores. There are great demo's of games like Ninja Gaiden Sigma on the other 2 stores as well as a host of Playstation games too.
It seems like Sony really could'nt care about those of us in the UK and Europe which is infact quite a sad story.
DiGG THIS
Please share your opinions on this matter. Are we too moany or are we being given reasons to moan?

XSeed Games is finishing up production on Dungeon Maker: Hunting Ground and it is scheduled to come out sometime next month. Dungeon Maker: Hunting Ground is a role playing game for the PSP, but with one significant twist you’re the architect of the dungeon. Players start out by designing the dungeon of their dreams and if the layout is good it will attract monsters for the player to fight. A better layout means stronger monsters, better loot and the chance that the legendary Wandering Demon will appear. The dungeon creation system really is the most interesting part of Dungeon Maker: Hunting Ground and we’re going to get a chance to play interior decorator for orcs and goblins soon. Check back to see our results and if you really need a dreary dungeon to draw in dragons.

While it was assumed that Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare would be appearing on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in addition to the PC, it was confirmed today by Activision.
The developers are obviously excited:
“Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is the most intense, visceral title we’ve ever created,” says Jason West, co-studio head and project lead, Infinity Ward. “The single player campaign is a well-paced, non-stop action experience. As the story unfolds, the player is introduced to new gameplay at every turn – one moment you are fast-roping from your Blackhawk helicopter after storming into the war zone with an armada of choppers, the next you are a sniper, under concealment, in a Ghillie suit miles behind enemy lines, the next you are engaging hostiles from an AC-130 gunship thousands of feet above the battlefield.”
Infinity Ward is also very proud of the technology that will power the game:
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare delivers amazing special effects, including use of depth of field, rim-lighting, character self-shadowing, real time post-processing, texture streaming as well as physics-enabled effects to enlist players into the most photo-realistic gaming experience. Combined with Call of Duty’s award-winning audio design, players will face war as never before.
Activision further revealed that the multiplayer portion of COD4 will be created by a dedicated team within Infinity Ward and that the game will be ready on all three platforms by the fall.
We'll have more on Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare soon.

An analyst from the Bank of America has been speaking with Gamedaily, and says that he believes Sony must cut the price of the PS3 by $200 in order for it to maybe recover next year.
The analyst, Michael Savner, says:
"While Sony could cut the price by $150 - $200, we view that as less likely given that it is already losing approximately $200 per console at $599, based on our estimates ... Offsetting a potential price cut are decreasing production costs, which should improve significantly this year. We estimate that the loss per console could decline to about $50, assuming Sony does not cut its wholesale prices. Bottom line, we don't expect Sony to make up meaningful ground against the Wii this year."
Savner goes on to talk about how the Wii is hurting the industry, because publishers invested in next-gen graphics and tech, and if the Wii continues to dominate then that money will be wasted somewhat. He also comments that Nintendo doesn't play well with third party publishers.
Savner's entire interview seems to lead us to one conclusion - that it's in the best interest of the industry for the PS3 to do well.

Sales for Sony Corp.'s Playstation 3 fell to an all-time low in the latest weekly retail sales data for Japan.
Media Create Co. on Fri. reported that the PS3 sold 8,659 between May 14 and May 20. The sales number is below last week's previous low of 8,839 units.
Additionally, no PS3 titles ranked in the top 50 game sales for the week, unchanged from the week prior.
The struggling console is less popular than previous Playstation consoles, including the PSP handheld at 27,505 units and the Playstation 2 at 10,881 units sold in the same period.
U.S. sales figures for the PS3 in Apr. were equally unencouraging, moving only 82,000 units in the month.
Sony this month posted a $563 million loss in the fourth quarter of the fiscal year on PS3 build costs and lower-than-expected sales.
This week it said that it may release an 80GB version of the PS3 hardware to the U.S. and other territories. The new hardware SKU is due for Korea in mid-June.

Here it is, my first publicly released program!
Written in and requiring LUA, for your gaming pleasure.
Basically it is an ENGRISH generator. It creates random sentences from word lists and sentence patterns.
It can take a little time to get a good funny sentence, due to it currently having too many words in too few categories. I hope to improve this and other features in future versions.
It can create a very large number of original sentences, many of which should be entertaining if you like Engrish. Be patient and keep pressing generate!
If you find one you like, you can quickly and easily save it to a text file for later viewing and sharing with friends.
Sources: lua.org, engrish.com (for vocabulary ideas), luaplayer.org, and EvilMana's tutes. Thanks guys!! Couldn't have done it so quickly without you!
Please check the included Readme.txt for additional information.
For more information on Engrish, check out: www.engrish.com
Screenshots are from the in-game graphics. I couldn't get my screenshots to take in Lua for some reason.
If I forgot anything, I'll try to update ASAP.
