News/release from luislizard:
Hi, say hello to version v0.5 with theme manager, and an easier way to adding themes (now you can just throw the theme with any name you want in ms0:/themes)
To create screenshots for your themes:
--Take the screenshot of the theme
--Open it with paint and click Image then Resize/Skew
--In there set to resize both horizontal and vertical to 70%, click OK
--Then click File then Save As, and save it as a PNG
--Then place that file as screenshot.png in the theme's folder
Features:
-- Theme Manager NEW!!!
-- Automatic theme flashing at startup
-- Unlimited slots for saving themes
-- Configuration menu
-- Dummy font flashing -- Frees 2.5 mb in Flash0
-- Monthly theme cycling
-- Original theme backup
-- Scripting improvement over last release
Files it can flash: (Requests accepted)
--topmenu_plugin
--opening_plugin
--savedata_plugin
--gameboot
--system_plugin
--background (01-12.bmp)
--impose_plugin
--premo_plugin
--system_plugin_fg
--system_plugin_bg
--photo_plugin
--game_plugin
--sysconf_plugin
--ltn0
--visualizer_plugin
--update_plugin
--sysconf_plugin_about
--savedata_utility
--rss_suscriber
--netplay_plugin
--netconf_dialog
--music_main_plugin
--msvideo_main_plugin
IMPORTANT:
-- In my past releases i received alot of complaints about why i didn't include the original sony files. I don't include them because it's illegal to do so, you have to get them by yourself, or if you run theme cycler with the original theme installed, it will make a backup of it.
-- If you have 3.40 then you need themes for 3.40, if you use one for another version it WILL NOT work.
-- You need to know the basics of flashing before using any flashing progams. Also, learn how to use the recovery mode before flashing anything.
-- To fix a semi-brick goto recovery mode and enable auto-boot. Reboot PSP and hold O, the configuration mode will load, then press "flash backup theme" and voila semi-brick fixed!
-- The README file is your friend, take a look at it before using.
-- if you want both autorun and the manual Cycle Theme function you need to set the 1.5 kernel to GAME since the boot folder has to be strictly at GAME, not GAME150.
-- DO NOT RENAME THE BOOT FOLDER, AND IT SHOULD BE LOCATED IN THE GAME FOLDER, NOT GAME150, NOT GAME340, IF YOUR ARE GOING TO USE AUTOBOOT.

I have made a version of the old Casio Calculator MG-880 game for the PSP. I wanted to include custom backgrounds for the game and a hi-score system, but unfortunately due to the PSP's Flash and Memory limitations I couldn't do those things. However I did include 3 lives in this version, as opposed to the 1 life in the PC version I made previously, and I have released a few different flavoured versions of the game.
------------------------------
CONTROLS:
(you play the game by turning the PSP sideways)
UP Arrow - Aim
DOWN Arrow - Fire
X Button - Start Game
INSTRUCTIONS:
What you do is use the UP arrow to change your BASE to match any number, or INVADER, that is advancing towards you. Once you change your Base to that Invader number you press the DOWN arrow to destroy the Invader.
If you destroy 2 or more Invaders in a row that add up to 10, 20, 30 etc then you get a 'n', or Mother Ship, advancing towards you which you can then destroy for 150 points.
The closer the the right hand side of the screen the Invaders are when you destroy them the more points you get for each, eg. 80 points for an Invader in the first position on the right, then less 10 points each position closer to your Base (ie. 70, 60, 50, 40, 30, 20, 10.)
You have 3 lives which are displayed next to you by 3 lines next to your Base.
The game has 9 levels and each level the Invaders advance faster towards you. Once you get past the 9th level it goes back to level 1. It's pretty hard to get through the 7th, 8th or 9th levels though so it can take a while to do this.
-------------------------------
Click on one of the game links below to Save the zip file to your computer, un-zip it and then place the game in any directory on you PSP and then use your PSP browser to Open the file. Each version of the game is between 170 - 220 KB in size.
Here is an example of the address you would enter if the game was placed in a Flash folder in the root directory of your PSP memory card:
file:/flash/mg880-01.swf
Right-Click on one of the flavours of the game to Save-As (unless you want a large version of the game to pop up on your screen):
Spider-Man 3
Casino Royale
Underworld
TMNT
300
Republic Commando
Aeon Flux
Ultraviolet
Keeley Hazell
Falco 3
ENJOY!

Via Ars Technica
After a brief hiatus, The Saturday Sunday Showdown continues. Each week we pick a topic, flip a coin to see which OT writer gets which side to debate, and then we present it to you. This week? Whether or not the PS3's ever-evolving firmware-powered feature list is going to be enough to increase sales.
Ben: My skepticism of the PS3 as a viable platform has become something of a running joke with Opposable Thumbs readers. With the initial release of the system, it was hard to take Sony's claims seriously. I kept asking myself, "You want this to be a media hub?" in the first few months of the system's release. This? PlayStation 2 games didn't look great, Blu-ray didn't work in 720p. It took forever to download anything, and you couldn't do anything else while you were pulling the files down. What a difference a few firmware updates make! Now the Blu-ray player works beautifully in 720p, PS2 and PSone games get upscaled up to 1080p, streaming media is a snap, background downloading works fine, and there is even some great content to download! We all knew that the system would get better, but with the newest firmware update, it's like a magic trick: the system Sony always wanted to release is now in our home theaters. Is this a selling point? Of course it is, as the games are getting better and the promises Sony made us are finally bearing fruit. I never told friends and family that buying a PS3 was a good idea before because I'm loathe to pay for potential. Now I can get excited about what the system can do RIGHT NOW.
Frank: Firmware updates (and patches) are both a blessing and a curse this time around. While these big updates can allow the developers to fix old problems and implement new functionalities, we can already see a trend of "half-finished" product releases that are simply "buffed out" later. Both the Xbox 360 and the PS3 suffer from this: they came out with a certain amount of functionality and a certain set of problems, and issues were ironed out over time. Don't get me wrong; I love the fact that the problems that arise via user feedback can be remedied. However, the problem that Sony faces is that they are repeating the same mistakes that Microsoft had already addressed; they learned nothing from the 360's failures. The background downloading, for one, should have shipped with the PS3. It's good that they finally patched it in, but why did it take so long? The same goes for the upscaling and some of the other fixes in the recent patch: the system is only getting around to having functionality it should have had already, rather than new functionality worth reconsidering the unit for. Thus, it's hard to look at these firmware upgrades as anything other than Sony racing to try and match functionality already evident on other units at a lower price.
Ben: So what? If you're a customer today and you have $600 in your greasy mitts, do you care if these things should have been there when the system shipped? Of course not. If you have a nice display and a good sound system, you're happy that they'll be so ably supported by the PS3 right now. Early adopters know the pain they're getting into, and so many gamers I talk to say that they want a PS3 but are waiting for certain features. Well, those features are finally coming; I know many who are now going to take the plunge. Sure, it's an expensive system, and while value-added things like the Blu-ray drive don't interest everyone, for A/V fiends they're huge. The PS3 is one of the cheapest Blu-ray players out there and with the additions of 720p play and improving options for how to display the image via HDMI, it's also one of the best. With this new firmware update, the system and Blu-ray play is functional enough to finally make it a selling point. If you took games away altogether, the other things (Blu-ray, media streaming, and 60GB hard drive) are a good value for $600. When the usage of these things was so hobbled, they were almost useless to many people. But now the PS3 is a very strong set top box at a very compelling price. I think we're going to see a sales spike in sales over the next month.
Frank: Right, but here's the thing. I'm a consumer, and I'm seeing that one unit—the 360—has a considerably more advanced feature set that encompasses everything that the PS3 boasts and more. I know that the patches are going to continue to come, and that the competition's unit will have increasingly advanced functionality while the PS3 is still catching up to the 360's already-established abilities. Unless Sony goes above and beyond somehow or approaches it from a different angle, then I don't see how the firmware can really push me to pick up a PS3 instead of something else. You're right in pin-pointing early adopters as the main benefactors of these updates, but really, on paper these new functionalities just level the playing field. If all you were really interested in was the PS3's media-playing capabilities, you were probably going to pick one up from before this patch anyway. No one, 360 fan or otherwise, has ever complained that the PS3 wasn't a capable media player and a worthwhile Blu-ray player. Yes, the 720p functionality helps, and might have been a deal-breaker to some before. But I hardly think that there will be a rush of sales now from the subset of users who wanted a 720p experience—especially given that most have probably already moved on to something else.
So what do you think? Can firmware be the ultimate boon to PS3 sales, or are these extra features simply too little, too late?

California is one of our great states that stays abreast of environmental issues and presents propositions to ensure a greener society. One proposition in particular, promotes clean drinking water with legislation to keep toxic chemicals out of consumer products. Well apparently, someone forgot to inform Costco that the PS3 console doesn't use gasoline and is packaged as a solid, which makes it impossible to consume as a liquid or get mixed in with the drinking water. According to this advertisement, Costco has included a reference to California's Proposition 65 in order to inform any prospective PS3 buyer that the console could be toxic because of its use of gasoline, a highly flammable (and not very tasty) fossil fuel. We've looked (twice) and haven't yet found a gas tank or opening marked "fuel" on our PS3. Now, we suppose there might be some funky materials under that sleek hood, but even so, the PS3 doesn't appeal to us as being edible. Anyone else find a gas tank included in their PS3, or dreamt of a PS3 between two slices of rye with lettuce? Please, do tell.

Go! Edit camera software comes free of charge and lets PSP camera owners edit their images as they please.
The Go! Edit (Go! Cam in Europe) PSP camera compatible software is now available to download.
European PSP owners can download the program at YourPSP. Additionally, there’s an instruction manual available for download for those interested in what’s included with this free PSP image editing program. PSP Fanboy notes that it’s an easy program to pick up, and makes editing images pretty fun. Unfortunately, since there is no PSP camera here in the States, any American users looking to get in on the image editing program are pretty much left in the dust.
Instructions to install are as follows:
1. Download the program zip file.
2. Extract the contents of the zip file.
3. Connect your PSP to your computer using a USB cable.
4. Go to the PSP/GAME folder.
5. Copy UCES90027 folder into the GAME directory.

If you didnt see the YourPSP link here it is again

Via Sports Gamer
SAN DIEGO--Sony Computer Entertainment showcased its newest basketball game, NBA 08, on PlayStation 3 at Sony’s Gamer’s Day event in San Diego. The assistant producer of the game, Bob Stait, gave SportsGamer a hands-on walkthrough of some of the features of the new game. While still early in development, the game shows major signs of improvement for this go-round.
Can you talk about how Sony’s taking advantage of the Sixaxis controller with NBA 08?
We’ve added a lot with the Sixaxis controller. We had jukes last year. Now we’ve taken it a step further with a pre and post dribble. Before you start a dribble or after you stop, you can go into the triple threat animation and get full range of motion to move the ball high, low and keep it out of the defenders reach. And you can deliver a specialized pass from wherever you have the ball in your triple threat animation. On defense, we’ve added a hands-up, hands-down feature that adds another dimension to gameplay. Tilt the controller up hands go down, from this position the ball carrier’s dribbling attributes will take a hit so he won’t be as likely to beat you with a dribble juke but he’ll be able to beat you with a jump shot because your hands are low. Vice versa, if you have your hands up, he’ll be able to juke on you but he won’t be as likely to beat you with a jump shot. Also, the new ball physics that we have in, when you put your hands up or hands down, you put your hand right on top of the ball you’re going to deflect it every time. Then it becomes a mad scramble for the ball, which is really cool when it happens.
What are some other new gameplay options?
Another gameplay mechanic we’ve added is the skitching system. The guy will basically beat you up and run you off to keep you from running around him and scoring. Once you’re in the skitching animation, we’ve added some special animations like new jukes and new moves you can do out of this animation.
What are you improving in the graphics department with the players?
We did a lot of work on the shaders and the character models. The shaders and the wrinkles for the players are the big improvements. We went back and did more tattoo work. I think we have the best player models as far as level of detail.
That arena looks different, as well. What’s new there?
Arenas are pretty much fully revamped. We really wanted to bring the crowd closer to the court and put you right in the middle of the action. Miami’s a pretty good example of that and all the stadiums are getting extensive work, so you’ll really notice this by the time we’re finished.
How are you addressing replay value with this year’s title?
Progression is a big one. It spans the entire title. It’s similar to how NBA Replay worked last year where you completed goals and collected jerseys. This year it encompasses the entire title, exhibition, season, mini-games, online. We’ve drawn up goals for the user to complete and when they do they can purchase shoes, jerseys, accessories, floors, and to create a player. You can buy attributes for him. Some wristbands will have a plus-five speed attribute to them and accessories will help you in the game.
What are you adding to online gameplay?
Last year we offered exhibition online. This year we’ve added Own the Court and One-On-One as well. We’re also going to Sports Connect, similar to MLB, which will give real-time scores from sports and the NBA. NBA Replay will be back again on a weekly basis. We’ll scan the NBA for the best performances from the previous week and then we’ll allow gamers to download them and try to match them. A good example of this was Kobe Bryant’s 81 point game last season. We set the scenario up and give you some in-game goals to complete and then let you play the game and post your scores online.

Not that pertinent to Americans, but PAL PS3 owners hoping for some kind of update to the PS3's backwards compatability list with the release of the 1.80 firmware are shit outta luck. We contacted SCEE to see if any games would either be added to the list, or at least have their status changed, and were told:
This upgrade focused on upscaling and there were no significant backward compatibility enhancements. As we have pointed out on many occasions, our engineer's focus is now on innovative applications and services for PS3 and not B/C, so you are not going to see major changes in future updates.
I think now's about the time to give up hoping for any significant additions to that BC list. Hope you all held onto your PS2s.

Welcome to Diner Dash, the action-puzzle that brings out the entrepreneur in all of us! Poor Flo! Sick and tired of pushing paper in the dreary, bleary-eyed world of finance, she ditched her desk job and now she's rolling up her sleeves and setting out to build her very own empire of high-class, five-star restaurants. It won't be easy, though! Flo's on her own now, and heading for the top! To get there she'll have to start on the ground floor—and she needs your help to survive and thrive. Diner Dash blends the best in fast paced-action puzzles with a build-your-restaurant-empire theme that encourages players to serve their way from a two-table diner to the top of the restaurant ladder ?starting with a run-of-the-mill greasy spoon and ending in a dream restaurant.

Ville Helin has updated his tetris type game for the PSP.
Heres whats new:
v1.3 (23-May-2007)
* The blocks drop now faster after every new gained level.
* For each full row one five intercontinental ballistic rockets are
launched in the background.
* Square and circle buttons now rotate the playfield around the x
axis, not around the y axis, as it was pretty useless.
* All blocks are now 3D, so rotating the playfield works better.
* Moved the preview block a little closer to the playfield.
* The game is now compiled with -O0 as -O2 can create GFX glitches.
