Compared to the interpretations we're constantly exposed to in modern forms of entertainment, certain aspects of our society can seem a little dull. We're generally not entertained by the sort of justice dished out in a court by some gavel-wielding grandpa, and have to turn to more ... extreme measures. Pursuit Force returns to the PSP this Fall with Extreme Justice, putting the kibosh on criminals and encouraging your over-the-top cop to keep his limbs outside the vehicle at all times.
Adding 3 more playable characters to the mix and a new array of vehicles to leap on, over and between in high-speed chases, Pursuit Force: Extreme Justice hopes to make good on the promise the original game showed but delivered in pieces. Let's hope it's transported in an armored van this time.

In a Sony Gamers Day recap, Lazard Capital Markets reported on the latest PlayStation Network (PSN) figures and Sony’s plans to release over 200 games across the PS3 and PSP; also mentions a PSP hardware “refresh.”
Sony plans to release 90 third party PS3 games this year and 15 exclusives from first and third parties, according to new investor note from Lazard games industry analyst Colin Sebastian.
Some of the highlighted PS3 software at Sony’s event this week included the Game Developers Conference hit Little Big Planet, the multiplayer SOCOM Confrontation, Heavenly Sword and Pain, a downloadable title which lets you launch your character into comically painful situations using an oversized slingshot.
Sebastian added, “[Sony] also indicated that 140 titles would launch on the PSP, while a video download service and hardware refresh are expected later this year.”
Rumors of revised PSP hardware have been circulating for many months. It seems just a matter of time before Sony makes a formal announcement. PlayStation hardware typically goes through one major revision during a lifecycle.
Sony also revealed that the free PSN has 1.5 million users, including 775,000 in North America with 6 million content downloads to date. Xbox Live boasts over 6 million users between free Silver account and paid Gold subscribers.
“We believe a successful online gaming effort increases the shelf life of video game software, provides an additional revenue stream for publishers, and broadens the overall usability of consoles,” said Sebastian.
Also as part of his note, Sebastian forecast that April US software sales figures were up 15-25 percent over the same month a year ago, which saw $395 million in sales. Market research firm NPD Group is expected to release monthly sales data later today.

Sticking to a solid release schedule, Rampage World Tour busts down buildings and feeds on the innocent today on PSN. The game is $4.99 and supports Rampage's three monster mayhem both online and off. We're starting to run out of announced titles for PSN, so we expect a new list sometime soon.
On a general Rampage note, if there is any series that could use a revamp it's Rampage. It's freakin' monsters busting down buildings and although the game sells itself, it'd be nice to see a new Rampage that doesn't feel identical to the original from the Reagan administration. The Rampage series deserves more than what it's getting.

So it looks like those endless rumors of a newly-spec'ed PlayStation Portable are finally about to come true, with an analyst from Lazard Capital Markets reporting that Sony has in fact copped to just such a device (most definitively NOT pictured above) at its Gamer's Day gathering in San Diego. According to Lazard's Colin Sebastian in a briefing prepared for NPD, "the company also indicated that [in addition to new software titles best left to another fine publication], a video download service and [PSP] hardware refresh are expected later this year." While both tidbits sound like potentially big news, Sony was reluctant to give up any more info on either of these asides -- meaning that you can still let your imagination run wild with magical features before the inevitable letdown. Still, if you've got your credit card in hand and sonystyle.com open in another tab as we speak, it might pay to hold off for a bit and see how this plays out.

I was surprised to find Manhunt 2, due out July 10, on hand at the week's SCEA events. Pleasantly surprised. While we couldn't actually play the game ourselves, we could watch it be played. It has a neat, scratchy look to it and some interesting effects that I initially thought were graphic glitches. In particular, items you can interact with tend to glow and skitter about nervously, instead of sitting still. That's because, I was told, the main character has some "issues" and that's played out, in part, with these visual tics.
Of course, the main way the character's issues are played out is in the way, the extraordinarily brutal way, he kills people. He can, of course, do standard kills with weapons, but he also has the ability to sneak up behind someone and do a cinematic kill. The brutality of the kill depends on how patiently you can stay behind your victim holding a kill button. The longer you hold the button the more brutal the kill will be when you perform it.
Most of the weapons you can use for these kills have several different kill animations that you can trigger, depending on how long you hold the button. Once you pull off one of these executions the game slips to a cut-scene that shows the kill and then jumps you back into play. It was a little jarring, but the version were were looking at was pretty dated.
The developer on hand said the Wii version looks a bit crisper and that the jump to execution cinematic isn't as clunky. From the brief time I watched the game I'd say that Manhunt 2 will be a worthy purchase, but perhaps not as fun as the original.

According to the chaps at US Game Informer mag, a remake of Starbreeze studios' excellent Xbox shooter Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay is headed to PS3 and Xbox 360.
Apparently the remake will receive an obligatory graphical boost, along with one additional chapter over the Xbox original.
Considering the cult status of the original this will no-doubt come as fantastic news to anyone who had the pleasure of playing Riddick. It perhaps also explains why it's yet to appear on the Xbox 360's backward compatibility list.

Further rummaging through SCE's US Gamers Day press disk, we've discovered these debut Ratchet & Clank Future screenshots. Aren't they looking colourful?
Packing the experience they earned developing launch title Resistance: Fall of Man, Insomniac's PS3 engine has been completely revamped for Ratchet & Clank. Apparently every weapon in the game is completely new, and Clank himself has some secret gameplay "opportunities" yet to be revealed.
At the moment it's dated for a European release in October. We'll let you know more as soon as we can get ourselves in a room with the game.
The screenshots can be seen here. Leave feedback via comments.

You can almost feel Kratos' rage emanating from the screen as he battles big brutes of enemies in new screenshots from PSP's God of War: Chains of Olympus. Look at him wrestle with an ogre-thing and battle a giant lizard with nasty pointy teeth.
Should all that action be too much for you, we also have some more tranquil scenes of Kratos standing in a ghostly field and by a body of water in a city. Relaxing, maybe, but you just know oodles of blood and violence is only seconds away.

The PSP version of PSone classic PaRappa the Rapper is hitting the UK and Europe this summer, Sony has now confirmed after the game was revealed for Japan back in September 2006.
PaRappa the Rapper on PSP is a revamped and improved version of the original PSone title and features ad-hoc multiplayer and downloadable remixed songs.
For those who have never played PaRappa the Rapper, it's a rhythm action game where you hit buttons when prompted on-screen to the tune of rap songs, star PaRappa performing actions to your presses. It's got a quirky, eye-catching visual style, all the characters paper-thin.
You play through a number of scenarios, including learning karate with a humanoid and taking your driving test with a rapping moose, with the ultimate goal of winning the heart of flower-creature Sunny Funny.

A KIA car model featured in Xbox 360-exclusive PRG3 has been used in an image promoting the car manufacturer and PlayStation 3. Whoops...
For the record this is the second time assets from Project Gotham Racing have been used in conjunction with a PlayStation promotion.
We reported back in January that a goof had been made while promoting Gran Turismo HD. On the company's PSP Connect website, a 'splash' encouraging folk to download a new GT HD trailer used an image of Xbox 360 racer Project Gotham Racing 3.
Now though a KIA website has used an image of a car model from the Microsoft game alongside a real-world image of a KIA car. You can clearly see the PGR license plate on the vehicle from the videogame.
It's probably the fault of the person who mans the KIA website rather a blatant Sony boob like the Gran Turismo ad. We expect the website to be "updated" imminently.

Sony Computer Entertainment America boss Jack Tretton has admitted that the PS3's high price poses "a challenge" - but observed that the content available for the console will help to justify the cost.
As reported by Reuters, Tretton said triple-A software releases are set to boost sales of PlayStation 3 over the coming months, stating, "The content message will be addressed very nicely this year."
The 60GB PlayStation 3 retails in the US for USD 599, while the Xbox 360 Premium system costs USD 400 and the Nintendo Wii retails for USD 250.
According to Reuters, Tretton conceded that the PS3's higher cost has been an obstacle, observing, "There's no question that that's a challenge."
However, Tretton continued, "Hopefully content helps to deliver the proof points and the justification behind the cost of the machine."
The SCEA president's comments come in the wake of Sony's latest financial report, which revealed a 68 per cent drop in operating profits. The company said it expects a reduction in operating losses in future as the cost of hardware manufacture comes down and an improved software catalogue boosts PS3 sales.

Sony expects its games division to continue to make a loss in the financial year ending March 2008.
Senior vice president Takao Yuhara has forecast an operating loss of around JPY 50 billion (EUR 305 m), reports Reuters.
However the figure is an improvement on the losses for the previous financial year, where the company's games division suffered a JPY 232 billion (EUR 1.4 bn) loss due to the launch of the PlayStation 3.
Despite the financial hit in the games division, Sony still expects operating profits of JPY 440 billion (EUR 2.6 bn) for the financial year ending March 2008.

LocoRoco creator Tsutomu Kouno has told GamesIndustry.biz that too many of the games available for PSP are sequels - and that he plans to redress the balance.
Speaking at the Nordic Game conference earlier this week Kouno said, "We need to make more new games for PSP, not just sequels. We have to increase the number of casual games, games that LocoRoco players will want to play."
However, Kouno is currently working on a sequel to his own game for PSP. When asked if LocoRoco will also be appearing on PlayStation 3 he replied, "I can't really say anything official right now, but... As you'd expect."
Kouno went on to state that he is committed to Sony's handheld, and to doing what he can to improve the range of software on offer.
"There are too many sequels for PSP, only sequels, so I want to make a new game for PSP," he said.
"I have many ideas, but I can't make them all because I am only one person. I have five or six new game ideas either for PSP or PS3, but I actually want to make them for PSP - for the people who bought LocoRoco, or bought a PSP because of LocoRoco, and like casual games."
The full interview with Kouno, where he discusses the potential of the Sixaxis controller and the EyeToy camera, the allegations of racism that were levelled at LocoRoco and his latest ideas for new games, will be published on GamesIndustry.biz next week.

The sixth Syphon Filter game, Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow (nearly one per year since 1999, dang) is coming to the PSP this fall, and it is offering up some new features like 360 degree underwater combat, a cover system with blind fire, Havok physics (on the leetle PSP? Nice!), and a contextual combat system that adds some new and unique melee attacks, from neck snaps to knife kills.
What's cooler though is that they are opening this game up on a global scale as Logan travels the globe trying to unravel the mystery behind the disappearance of his long-time partner, Lian Xing. Story was penned by comic book writer extraordinaire Greg Rucka, who you'll have to forgive for writing the novelization of Perfect Dark. He does a good job with Queen & Country thought, so we're willing to let it slide. The game also features an original score from Azam Ali, who also composed some of the music for 300.

SCEA president Jack Tretton has reiterated Sony's intent to launch some semblance of a 'PSP Store,' but his statements provide little assurance that the project is a priority. "I think the advent of a long awaited and quite frankly long overdue ability to deliver a downloadable service for the PSP will help us out a great deal," Tretton said during an appearance at Sony Gamers' Day. "Hopefully we'll have it out there by the fall."
Tretton gave no further insight into the proposed venture, leaving us to wonder if he was merely referring to SOE's Station Launcher, a forthcoming service that will offer downloads of PSP-formatted movies directly to the handheld device (via PC). Of course, there would be obvious benefits to launching a portable counterpart of PS3's PlayStation Store, complete with PS1 games, demos, and trailers -- and, dare we suggest, full e-Distribution titles. All with just the flick of a WLAN switch. If only...

It has been awhile since I made a Flash game, and I was playing Ghostbusters for the NES and decided to remake an old game I had made. You drive the Ectomobile and run over ghosts and dodge cars. I have a few bugs to workout and some more stuff to add, but I hope to get it out by the weekend.
Features so far:
* 3 songs from the Ghostbusters Original Soundtrack (credit properly given)
*The actual siren used on the Ectomobile
* Sprites from Ghostbusters for the NES
* AI
* Runs a tad slow at 222mhz in the web browser, but using Dark Alex's custom FW and set the CPU speed to 333mhz it is almost at full speed
There are very few good flash games for the PSP, and I plan to change that

Via PSPhacks:
silverfox has updated LeeSP to v2.2 the other day. LeeSP is an exciting 2D fighting game focusing around two popular anime characters, Rock Lee and Gaara. LeeSP supports single and multiplayer (two persons on a single PSP) modes. Unfortunately networked multiplayer (Ad Hoc or Infrastructure) is not supported. Nevertheless, it’s quite enjoyable — with or without a friend.
Version 2.2 introduces new characters, stadiums, and attack moves. And of course a wide range of bug fixes. Share your feedback and constructive criticisms below. Nice work, dude.

Last month Nexon published Audition in North America for PCs with a revised soundtrack to fit the Total Request Live demographic. Audition is a music/rhythm game where players follow a series of commands to make their customizable avatars dance. While Audition is new to North America, it was designed and released in Korea in 2005. Next month Audition Portable for the PSP hits South Korea and it comes with 100 songs and a network function that lets six players dance in sync. While the PSP release doesn’t have the online social elements that Audition Online has, there is a content download service in development where players will be able to get additional songs and dance motions. Along with DJ Max Portable, South Korea is rapidly developing music/rhythm games for the PSP that have been neglected by international publishers.
