The guys over at Lavalit have released a new version of the beats of rage clone for the Dreamcast, Dingoo, PSP, Linux, Windows, GP2x, Nintendo Wii and Wiz.
OpenBOR is a continuation of the Beats Of Rage 2D game engine, which was originally
created by the wonderful folks over at http://www.senileteam.com.
In 2004, Senile Team released Beats of Rage, a free beat-'em-up for DOS inspired
by SEGA's Streets of Rage series and using sprites from SNK Playmore's King of
Fighters series. The game spread only by word of mouth, but it nonetheless
amassed popularity very quickly. Senile Team soon released an edit pack allowing
anyone interested to create a mod for the BOR engine.
In 2005, Kirby2000 asked Senile Team to open the source code to BOR. They
agreed, and OpenBOR was born. Development on the engine was continued by the
community, and still is to this day.
Heres whats new:

via http://wololo.net/2012/10/18/so-you-...thing-for-you/
Remember when I said there would probably be no new exploit release for a long time? Well, it seems I spoke a bit too soon.
Developer Frostegater, who was behind the Mad Blocker Alpha exploit (which TN ported to his eCFW) started a poll yesterday on our forums to see how many of you would be interested by a new exploit release that would bring TN’s Kernel exploit to even more people. The answers are mixed, but it is showing that a significant amount of people indeed missed both the Urbanix and the Mad Blocker Alpha exploits.
If you’re one of these people (or if on the contrary you strongly think a new exploit should *not* be released), raise your voice and vote in Frostegater’s poll here. But based on the current numbers, I’m pretty convinced the release is going to happen. This will probably be through one of our Ninja releases, although the people behind the exploit might want to go a different route…
Again, there are pros and cons to such a release. If this gets released now, it only benefits the few people who already missed 2 exploits, but if the hackers wait for a firmware update by Sony, then the exploit will be less useful since we can safely assume that TN’s kernel exploit will be patched with the next Firmware… (still confused? Check for an explanation of the difference between the user mode and kernel exploits involved in this hack, here)
Well, either way, stay tuned, and if you already got CN’s eCFW running on your Vita, be a kind soul, and let your friends know, so that they don’t miss out for a third time!

via http://wololo.net/2012/10/17/did-son...ow-on-the-psp/
The Vita is progressively pushing its older sister out of the picture, and even though Japan is still seeing a few releases for the PSP, it is clear now that Sony is focusing on the Vita and the PS3. More than 2 weeks after the leak of a PSP Kernel exploit inside the Vita’s PSP emulator, followed by the release of an eCFW by Total_Noob (which, technically, enables PSP piracy on the Vita), no update on the horizon.
Back in the days of the PSP, it was not unusual to see each Kernel exploit followed by a firmware patch from Sony within a few days. This time, although Total_Noob revealed his Kernel exploit 2 weeks ago, we have yet to see firmware 1.82 and its obligatory “stability improvements”.
Now, the situation is not that bad for Sony. First, even though the Kernel exploit is potentially still here, Sony’s services were relatively quick to remove the exploited games involved with the hack. To clarify once again, the games are not where the Kernel exploit lies, they are just an entry point to the exploit, through a User mode exploit. What this means is that the exploit is still here on 1.81, and anybody with a new user mode exploit could get access to it (for those who missed both the Urbanix and the Mad blocker alpha exploits). Technically, Sony is still in “danger” of seeing more people getting access to this exploit, until the next firmware revision.
Some people close to Sony have told me numerous times that Sony don’t really care about the PSP emulator on the Vita, which is way they don’t care too much about patching those exploits… and yet, surely the amount of money they’re getting from PSP sales on the PSN from Vita owners must not be negligible… Well after all maybe it is (I estimate that less than 3% of Vita owners have access to TN’s Kernel exploit), and maybe that’s why they don’t care too much about fixing it too fast?
But I have another theory: isn’t it possible that Sony has lost some critical Know-how on the PSP? As their engineers moved to the Vita, with a different CPU architecture, a whole new Kernel and firmware systems, surely the PSP-dedicated teams must be shrinking, and so does the knowledge of the system. I’m of course making a wild guess here, but could it explain why they decided to patch the Monster Hunter exploit directly from the Vita, rather than doing it inside the PSP Emulator, like they had done so far? Is it that running QA on the PSP emulator ads too much overhead in a new firmware, that they are afraid to touch the PSP firmware when they do a new release?
This is again a wild theory absolutely not based on insider info, but from what I have been told by the people who have looked into Kermit and other PSP-emulator related stuff inside the Vita, the people who implemented the PSP emulator on the Vita did not seem to be really aware of how the security works on the PSP, making some critical mistakes along the way.
Between that, the relatively long waiting time for the yet-to-be-seen firmware 1.82, and the “let’s patch the vita OS rather than the PSP firmware for PSP exploits” attitude, I am wondering if Sony has progressively lost technical knowledge on their own device, as their engineer teams moved on to other projects…
Do you guys think it might be possible today that some hackers actually know much more about the PSP than Sony themselves?

The PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale beta will kick off tomorrow on Vitaglobally.
PlayStation Plus members on PS3 will also be able to access the beta tomorrow in the US, and on Wednesday, October 17 in Europe, before it expands to everyone a week later. The beta will support Cross-Play, enabling Vita and PS3 players to fight with and against each other.
Here's the beta feature list, as posted on thePS Blog:
- You'll be able to play as Kratos, Sweet Tooth, Colonel Radec, Sly Cooper, PaRappa and Fat Princess.
- You'll be able to play in both the Metropolis and Hades stages.
- You'll be able to try out four-player online tournaments and 2 vs 2 online tournaments. For the 2 vs 2 games we'll be supporting friend invites, so you and a friend can fight another team online.
- This, of course, is only a tiny fraction of what PlayStation All-Stars has to offer, but we thought you'd love the chance to try it early and see what all the buzz is about. This beta is also really helpful for us as it allows us to load test the servers before releasing the game. Be sure to hop on quickly as we'll be ending the beta on 30th October
Sony recently delayed the PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale release date by one month to November 20 in the US (21 in Europe, 22 in Aus & NZ and 23 in UK & Ireland).

Duck Hunt PSP is a homebrew that lets you play Duck Hunt, as you know it on the NES. But since it is a homebrew, it’s not original like we know, since it’s called Duck Hunt “PSP”. As example, the PSP version has 2 different gamemodes and 1 minigame. And you might see a few bugs, but everything will be hopefully fixed.

PomPom Games (the folks behind Mutant Storm Reloaded, among a few other shooters) has released a brand new game on PlayStation Mobile-compatible devices called Rebel, and as the developer says, the game came from an interesting plan to try and make a shooter ... without shooting. The result has the player running around an island in between slower enemy bullets, trying to aim those bullets at other bad guys, all the while collecting gems and power-ups.
Sounds fun. There are multiple levels and game modes to unlock as you play the game, which you can open up by collecting more and more gems. Rebel is available right now on any PlayStation Mobile device (including the PS Vita) for $1.99.

via http://wololo.net/2012/10/11/hey-wol...ninja-release/
In 2012 the scene has released 6 user mode exploits in PSP Games, that were leveraged to run either VHBL, or, more recently, Total_Noob’s CEF. These releases accelerated recently with the publication of 3 game exploits in the past 3 weeks: Monster Hunter, Urbanix, and Mad Blocker Alpha. Despite this, some people weren’t able to grab the exploits and are asking me when the next one is coming.
There are many things to say about this. First, I want to make it clear that I did not develop any of these exploits myself, and I certainly do not own a patent for the concept of “Ninja Releases”. In other words, anybody with a usermode game exploit could make their exploit compatible with Total_Noob’s CEF, then handle a Ninja Release on their own, or even contact me to handle it.
For those of you who still didn’t figure that out, in order for Total_Noob’s CEF to run, 2 exploits are required: a usermode exploit to be able to run unsigned code (that’s the game exploits), then a kernel exploit to do a privilege escalation (that’s Total_Noob’s exploit). The kernel exploit itself is not tied to a specific game.
I think it is really essential to understand that there is nothing that really makes me necessary in this process at all. Sure, we have a huge community focused mostly on the PSP and the Vita, which makes the Ninja Releases very relevant to guarantee that a maximum amount of people get the information before Sony pulls the game, but what I’m saying is, begging me for a new release is not necessarily the best way to get what you want.
Again, finding usermode exploits in psp games is not difficult, and is well documented (also here). All you need is a hacked psp, lots of free time, and a brain. Some of you might wonder “well duh, if I had a hacked psp, why would I even want to look for more psp exploits?”, and I will reply that if everybody thought that way, we wouldn’t be enjoying Total_Noob’s CEF today. Others might think it’s too difficult… I am baffled at the amount of people who keep asking me where to find the info to find those exploits, when again it’s relatively well documented, and google is your friend. It’s not like there is a “psp hacking school” or something
Back to the recent Ninja releases, some people are wondering why we revealed two game exploits for firmware 1.81 (“why didn’t you guys wait for firmware 1.82?”), while others ask if we plan to release more.
As to why we released 2 game exploits for this, there are two reasons. First, the Urbanix exploit was leaked, and we feared the information didn’t spread fast enough for people who would have been interested in Total_Noob’s CEF.
Second, it is really essential to understand here that firmware 1.82 (or whatever comes next) will most likely patch Total_Noob’s Kernel exploit. If we had waited for firmware 1.82 to reveal the MBA exploit, it would have been “less” useful, as people wouldn’t have been able to use Total_Noob’s CEF, but rather something like VHBL, which provides less features. In other words, usermode exploits are less valuable than a Kernel exploit, so it made sense to “waste” a second usermode exploit on 1.81 rather than wait, especially since there are lots of other game exploits lying around.
So, why not release yet another game exploit before 1.82 then? Well, again, I do not control all the releases, and if you have a game exploit that you want to share for this, feel free to release it, or to contact me for a ninja release. But I see several reasons to think it wouldn’t really be worth it.
First, I strongly believe that people who were able to miss 3 exploits (Monster hunter, Urbanix, and MBA) in the past 3 weeks would not be able to catch a 4th one. Seriously, if you didn’t see the previous 3 ones, what makes you think you’ll see it this time?
Then, well, the Mad Blocker Alpha release wasn’t even planned initially, I just decided I’d try to contact Total_Noob and Frostegater on that subject, and they agreed it was a good idea… but my point here, people who ask for a second chance.. well, Mad blocker Alpha *was* that second chance… and technically, if you include all the previous exploits, it was like the 6th chance you had (yeah, Total_Noob’s CEF is still not ported to previous exploits besides Monster Hunter, but I am still convinced this is only a matter of time). Sure, a few people in there were really following all these events, and just got unlucky for various reasons, but the thing is, at this point I believe they probably represent a tiny minority that does not justify releasing a new usermode exploit (unless, of course, one of these guys actually has one and wants to share)
Finally, given how fast Sony removed Mad Blocker Alpha from theirs online stores, and the amount of leaks that happened for this release, I think the Ninja Release concept has shown its limits, and we need to adapt it. At least, we will be revising the list of trusted people more thoroughly.
On that point by the way, several people have contacted me to tell me the ninja release should happen progressively, so that less trusted people get the information after the others. This is already what’s happening, and this is why the information started to leak only days after the Ninja release had actually begun.
Well, I guess that’s what I had to say on this. Bottom line is, no extra Ninja release planned by me so far for 1.81, but of course nothing’s written in stone
