News/release from Torch:
This is a simple plugin I made a long time ago for my personal use. I just found the source code while going through some old stuff on my computer, so I thought I'd clean up the code a bit and release the plugin.
I realize that there are other plugins that feature similar functionality but I wrote my own because I wanted to be sure its coded optimally, as there are a few careless ways in which these functions can be improperly used (the point of this after all is to conserve battery life).
It does the following when the Hold switch is enabled:
* Switches off the LCD backlight.
* Switches off the actual LCD screen.
(This is important because the backlight and actual screen are two different things. You can have an image being displayed on the screen while the backlight is switched off, such that you can see the image if you use a flashlight. You can also have the screen switched off while the backlight still illuminates the powered off screen.)
* Underclocks the CPU to 61MHz
(Sony has changed the clock speed functions such that only certain combinations of speeds work correctly. Simply trying to underclock to arbitrary values will result in the CPU simply running at the stock speed. I have verified that Hold+ successfully underclocks to 61MHz.)
* The original screen brightness and clock speed are restored when the Hold switch is released.
* Prevents the PSP from going into suspend mode if you accidently push the power switch too far when turning off Hold mode.
* Allows operation of the PSP with the display turned off, to change volume, skip songs etc.
Usage:
Turn on the Hold switch to automatically disable the display and underclock the CPU. Turn off the Hold switch to return the CPU to normal speed and enable the display.
If you push the ANALOG UP button when turning on the hold switch, it will only lock the keypad like normal Hold mode. The display and CPU speed will not be changed, so that you can watch videos etc. with the keypad locked.
If you push the ANALOG UP button when turning off the hold switch, the display will remain switched off and the CPU will remain underclocked, but you can operate the PSP. This is useful if you just need to adjust the volume, fast forward/rewind, or to skip to the next song, without unnecessarily turning on the display. To return to normal, push the power switch to the suspend position, or just press the Screen button.
Installation:
You can install it in the seplugins folder, and make an entry in VSH.txt. Thus it will be active in the XMB. Its also possible to use it in games by adding it to GAME.txt, but some games may crash etc., if the CPU is underclocked to such a low value.
Optionally, its also possible to install it in your PSP's flash0 so that it will work without a memory card. For this you can use FreePlay's "NewBTCFNedit" and enable it for VSH mode in the all the PSPBT?NF.bin files. Add it after vshmain.prx.
Advanced:
If you want to change the clock speed to your own values, you can use a hex editor to change them. The offsets in the file for v2.63 are
0x360, 0x364 - CPU,GPU (Both should be same)
0x36C - Bus (Should be half the CPU speed or less)
The values should be entered in hexadecimal. The default value for CPU/GPU is 3C (60 MHz in decimal) and the default value for bus is 1E (30 MHz in decimal).
Note that simply using any arbitrary value will not work. You will have to test and see which values for CPU/GPU and Bus speed work.
Credits:
Thanks to adrahil for helping with preventing the suspend mode.
Changelog v2.64
----------------------------------
While in Display Off mode, you can now also turn on the display by pushing the power switch to the suspend position.
Pressing the Screen button also works but I recommend using the power switch instead, because when you press the Screen button, the firmware sets its internal brightness variable to the next level, even though the screen is functioning at the original brightness. Thus if you leave it idle after turning on the display using the Screen button, and the screen dims due to the PSP being idle, when you press a button it will jump to the next brightness level.

Buunyan has updated Pukapu which looks to be a side scrolling game, as with any BD-J release any firmware of PS3 can play so even if you have the newest firmware this type of homebrew is safe.

NidAttack was initially created by others to work out PSP export/import names and I have just altered it slightly to also calculate PS3 names.
Included is an xml database of all exports from PRX files found in the PS3 v2.30 system flash.
Also present is a file with NIDs for just the unknown names, so these are the ones to use NidAttack on.

via Games Industry
Forthcoming PlayStation 3 flagship title, LittleBigPlanet, is being considered by the development team at Media Molecule as much as a "service" as it is a videogame title, with the much-anticipated game drawing heavily from aspects of popular social networking and community websites such as Facebook and YouTube.
That's according to company co-founder Alex Evans, who explained to GamesIndustry.biz some of the game's online functionality.
"We tried to take inspiration from millions of websites," he said. "My current favourite that I use all the time is Last.fm. But the thing is taking all of those ideas and turning them into a console experience.
"[Media Molecule co-founder] Mark Healey is really useful there - I don't know if he's playing the fool, or is just a fool, but we have this tagging system in that's really cool... except he kept saying he didn't understand, he didn't know what tagging was, so he wasn't going to do it because he didn't see the point.
"But he was really useful, because basically he took these ideas I knew from the web and tried to turn them into console things. Like if you just mash X, we think you should go somewhere interesting - that doesn't apply to the web, but it does apply to consoles."
Evans went on to describe one example of the game's community-specific features regarding the use of photos in-game.
"So we've got the standard webby features, and my favourite one is the photos in the game - you can take screenshots, but as with everything in the game it's physical, so you can frame a shot, take it, then you can stick it," he explained.
"But then you can upload it as well, and we use it in a variety of places, so every level has a feed of photos. Say you design a GamesIndustry.biz level - anyone who goes in that level and takes a photo, that photo will go on the feed. Anybody searching for that level will see the feed and be able to judge if it's a good level.
"But it gets even cooler, because that feed also applies to people, so it's a bit like somebody's subscription channel on YouTube."
And Evans believes that while the levels will keep gamers hooked for a long time, the people that create the most popular ones could gain cult status.
"Creators are just as important as levels, so as a creator we have world rankings of who's the coolest creator, or who's the coolest community-minded commenter or sharer," he said.
"So you can be a little bit competitive if you want to be, and you'll have feeds of photos of you - levels that you've been in, photos people have taken of you. Then we take it even further, like Facebook. In any photos we know what kind of Sackboys were in it, who they were logged in as, so we put a box around their face which you can click and go and see that person. So if there's a cool level with a guy wearing an awesome costume, you just D-pad up to him and hit X, and now you can see his levels, his favourites.
"My favourite features are how you navigate around in a social way - so rather than just being a type-in text bar, which you can do but is a bit clunky, it's much more that you play a level, it will find more recommended levels like that, then you see a cool guy, click on him... it's that kind of jumping around. That's the most obviously different feature set.
"The nicest bit about the online side is that we treat it as a service, so if we can iterate. I love the way that people abuse - in the good sense of the word - features, that the community will find and start building up around, and we want to support that. We'll add features to the community side that are specifically for the community," he added.
The full interview with Alex Evans, in which he also explains how the team plans to expand the game in future - including the possibilities around creators monetising their content - is available on GamesIndustry.biz now.

Sony has released a developer video walkthrough of Resistance Retribution, the upcoming PSP edition of Sony's flagship first-party shooter.
Chris Reese, co-director of SCEA Bend Studio, takes you through the new cover system in the third-person shooter, how some the new guns work including one with a secondary feature that slows down enemy movements and peeks at a boss.
Visually, it looks pretty decent. Check it out on the official PS blog.

Level-5's big console RPG White Knight Chronicle is at long last being readied for a final release. The latest issue of Famitsu reports that Sony is planning a December 25 Japanese release for the game, making for a potentially grand Christmas/New Years gift for Japanese PS3 owners.
Akihiro Hino, president of Level-5, shared a few thoughts on the game with the magazine. According to Hino, White Knight is Level-5's biggest production yet. It's a game that tackles three elements, he said: the PlayStation 3 hardware, a large RPG, and a third element which he's not yet willing to discuss.
While speaking only in vague terms, he said that this third element is something that is indicative of the PS3. Details will be shared in the near future.
Unfortunately, Hino wouldn't say for sure if White Knight will be playable at October's Tokyo Game Show. He did promise that attendees to the public game event would be able to "experience" it in some fashion, and left it at that.
We'll be sure and experience it as best we can and deliver a full report in early October.

Newly released today:
The hack and slash action takes place in a state called Gishuamari during the Sengoku period. By slaying the late ruling family, the Sakurai clan, a man named Fujimori became the state's Daimyo.
As a ruler, he keeps an iron fist on the country and the way with which he took the Daimyo's throne made him enemies amongst the peasants and old noble families.
The player is a stray Samurai with the freedom to join any party, e.g. Fujimori's, the old noble houses' or the peasants.
Of course, with the freedom provided in the game, there are more than one route you can develop your story, betray your old employers and go under a new one, remove yourself from corruptive forces and join the battle for justice etc, just remember that the fate of the state rests within your hands

PSP Pandora Deluxe v1.4
Created by DJB on 16th September 2008
Original News Story: Here
Original Forum Thread: Here
DOWNLOAD: Rapidshare - Megaupload
Release Notes:
Here you have it, an all-in-one solution for your Pandora Needs.
This program is designed to prepare your PSP Memory Stick to be used with the Pandora Battery. Unfortunately this program can not change your Battery to Pandora, however it will copy programs to the Memory Stick in order for you to do this yourself.
In this version I corrected the registry files for the 1.50 Downgrader and DC 3-7, I heard that I might have possibly been using a custom theme on one of these registries when creating the files, so I've re-done them all. I've also modified the 01-12.bmp and 13-27.bmp files in the Test 4.01 M33 portion of DC7 to show a Black background. This is to prevent the user from confusing it with their normal XMB.
As far as the support tools go, I included FuSa SD and updated PSP Filer to 5.6. I decided to remove NAND Manager as it seems that nandTool will do everything you need.
I hope you enjoy this new release...
WARNING: THIS PROGRAM WILL FORMAT AND INSTALL THE IPL LOADER TO THE DRIVE LETTER YOU SELECT AS YOUR PSP DRIVE, SO MAKE SURE IT IS THE CORRECT DRIVE BEFORE PROCEEDING. I DO NOT TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR FORMATTED USB HARD DRIVES ETC...

(This is needed for creating the Pandora Battery, not the Memory Stick).

ffgriever is at it again! This time bringing a proof of concept program allowing in game reset to your favorite homebrew with a button combo!
Here's a quote from his thread on this:

The basic concept is simple:
1. Detect pad button presses.
2. Launch apropriate app on particular button combo.
Although it looks simple, it's not that easy to do, especially that I wanted to make it EE side only, which means no code on IOP side (there are good reasons for that). Launching the application from the middle of running another app is also not that easy, as a lot of caution is required (and I had some serious problems with sif, though I was able to get rid of it by modifying SifInitCmd function a little bit).
Take this one as the proof of concept rather than working app (more concept than proof I would say ).
The IGR_mc.elf file after becoming resident will launch file in:
mcx:/BOOT/BOOT.ELF
mcx:/B?DATA-SYSTEM/BOOT.ELF
where "x" is memory card slot and "?" is regional code.
(to be true I tested it mostly with one app, so I recommend using uLE, tested on uLE 4.28)
