If you’ve ever used a Custom ROM on an Android device, then chances are you’ve already encountered some form of Double Tap 2 Sleep functionality.
Prefer putting your console to sleep by simply double-tapping on the screen? If so, Joel16 has got you covered!
For those who haven’t, Double Tap 2 Sleep is quite self-explanatory as it’s a nifty little feature letting you put your device to sleep by simply double tapping the status bar.
Now, Joel16 has brought this functionality to the PSVita continuing his trend of Android/CyanogenMod-inspired homebrew offerings. In order to do this, he created a user-mode plugin titled dt2s-vita which comes in 2 flavours namely:

As Rinnegatamante regularly shares his progress on Twitter, it is no secret that he’s been working on getting GTA: VC to work on the PlayStation Vita with efforts dating back to at least October 23rd. Like the GTA III port on the console, the GTA: VC port is based upon the re3 engine but on the ‘miami’ branch rather than on the ‘master’ branch.
Before one gets their hopes up though, it is important to state that the re3 ‘miami’ branch, or reVC as some are calling it, is still WIP meaning that GTA VC’s game engine isn’t fully implemented yet despite being pretty close to GTA III’s. As a result, current porting efforts to both the Nintendo Switch (reVC-nx) and the PlayStation Vita (re3-miami-vita) need to wait on the folks working on the re3 engine itself before providing a proper GTA VC experience.
What is the current status of GTA VC on the PSVita?
The most recent developments show that GTA: VC on the Vita is running pretty well but the engine it’s based on needs to be finished first! (Tweet)
As per a recent tweet by Rinnegatamante, his efforts in porting the currently-unfinished ‘miami’ branch of re3 seem to be going pretty well. Thanks to a temporary solution he’s been able to devise for stuttering issues & freezes, Grand Theft Auto Vice City is currently running at around 30-40FPS on the PSVita which might be a tad better than the recently released GTA 3 port.

Following over half a decade in the making, the English localization patch for Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity has now been released.
For those who aren’t familiar, the Phantasy Star Portable series of games, released on the PlayStation Portable, are ARPGs that have MMO traits but also a focus on single player content.
Infinity is an upgraded version of Phantasy Star Portable 2 which was never localized to the west, unfortunate for fans of the series, since it’s undoubtedly one of the best entries in the Phantasy Star Online/Universe/Portable lineup.
Patch Features:
Full Localization - The game is fully localized to English, this means any and all text that can be found in the game is translated.
Extensive UI hacking - Numerous parts of the interface had to be adjusted in order to fit the English text.
Image editing to English - Custom images have been made for material that was in Japanese, such as title cards, tutorial images, icons, etc.
Movie subtitling - Cutscenes have been re-encoded with hardsubs.
Customized solutions - The Infinity Mission feature uses a naming system based on a place and a name in Japanese, this would not fit in English and so naming has been reworked. There is also a quiz type mission which included questions that were impossible to solve without guessing for an English-speaking audience, those have been reworked to be solvable.
A huge thank you to all who supported the project over the years, hope everyone enjoys it!
Please check out the relevant link or RHDN project page for more information.

PCSX-Redux v1523.20201113.2 is released. This is yet another fork of the Playstation Emulator, PCSX. While the work here is very much in progress, the goal is roughly the following: Bring the codebase to more up to date code standards. Get rid of the plugin system and create a single monolithic codebase that handles all aspects of the playstation emulation. Write everything on top of SDL/OpenGL3+/ImGui for portability and readability. Improve the debugging experience. Improve the rendering experience.
PCSX-Redux Changelog::
* Merge pull request #284 from nicolasnoble/embed-psexe
* Adding the ability to embed PS-EXEs to boot.

On November 3rd PlayStation Plus members will receive two PS4 games: Middle-earth: Shadow of War and Hollow Knight: Voidheart Edition.
In addition, beginning on November 12, PlayStation Plus members who own a PlayStation 5 console will receive Bugsnax for the PS5.
This is an interesting move because it appears to break away from the precedent that you do not need to own a specific console in order to redeem PS+ titles. Whereas you can redeem the PS4 titles without owning a PS4, Sony has implied that a PS5 is necessary to redeem Bugsnax.

Hello!
Welcome to the public release of our English localization patch of Phantasy Star Portable 2 Infinity (PSPo2I), a project over half a decade in the making.
For those who aren't familiar with them, PSPo and PSPo2 were games released on the Playstation Portable which were ARPGs that had MMO traits but also had a focus on singleplayer content.
Infinity is an upgraded version of PSPo2 which was never localized to the west—unfortunate for fans of the series, since it's undoubtedly one of the best entries in the PSO/PSU/PSPo lineup.
❊ The main additions to Infinity were:
- New content
-A whole new story mode, and the original story is also included.
-A new race you can play as with its own special power.
-More (difficult) missions, areas, new bosses, skills, abilities, and more.
This includes a new mission type called Infinity Mission which has semi-randomly generated maps and the player can customize their stats to a degree. - More power progression
-New, and more powerful loot and more ways to improve weapons.
-A Rebirth system which allows you to reset your level to 1 while keeping some of your stats. - Quality of life
-You can now "lock" items to prevent accidentally selling them, and among other things, storage space has been doubled from 1000 to 2000 items. - Rebalanced gameplay from PSPo2
-Some weaker skills have been improved, and vice versa—two-handed swords are much faster in Infinity for example, which made them more popular this time around. - New features
-You can now invite your own characters as AI partners, or those of friends who have shared a snapshot of their character with you.

Sony pre-sold as many units of the PlayStation 5 in the US in the first 12 hours they were available as it did in the first 12 weeks for the PlayStation 4, according to Jim Ryan.
Speaking to Reuters, Ryan described the demand via pre-order as "very, very considerable" in the lead-up to the November 12 launch of the console.
"It may well be that not everybody who wants to buy a PS5 on launch day will be able to find one," he added.

Global shipments of the PlayStation 4 neared 114 million in the last fiscal quarter of the current generation -- but all of the growth for Sony's games business came from digital sales.
PlayStation 4 shipped a further 1.5 million units in the three-month period ended September 30, 2020. This was down from 2.8 million in the same quarter last year -- an expected trend so close to the dawn of a new generation.
However, the growing importance of digital revenue in the current generation meant the decline in hardware sales was not keenly felt on Sony Interactive Entertainment's bottom line.
Sony Corp.'s Games & Network Services division reported ¥507 billion ($4.9 billion) in revenue for the second fiscal quarter, up 12% over the prior year. Operating income for the period was ¥105 billion ($1 billion), up 62% year-on-year.
The majority of that money came directly from digital sources, with ¥297 billion ($2.8 billion) from downloaded software and add-ons, and a further ¥96 billion ($920 million) from network services -- together, they represented 77% of all Sony's games revenue, up from 71% last year.
The split between digital and physical full-game sales was 59% in favour of digital. In the same quarter Last year, 55% of full-game sales were physical.

Sony Corp. expects the PlayStation 5 to outpace the launch performance of the PlayStation 4 -- but each unit sale will make a "negative contribution" to the company's earnings
In a call with investors, Sony CFO Hiro Totoki said the company was "aiming to exceed" the PlayStation 4's 7.6 million units sales in the fiscal year of its launch.
The PS4 launched in most global territories in November 2013, but it wasn't released in Japan until February 22, 2014 -- less than six weeks before the close of the fiscal year accounting period.
PlayStation 5, however, will launch in Japan next month alongside the majority of global territories -- barring South America and China.
Like the analysts, Sony Corp. anticipates that PS5 will at least match the launch performance of its predecessor, despite the disruptions caused to production by the COVID-19 pandemic -- a claim supported by PlayStation boss Jim Ryan's comments that the PS5 was pre-ordered more in 12 hours than PS4 was in 12 weeks.
Totoki also said the company expects to surpass the 100 million unit lifetime sales of PS4 -- which has now sold around 114 million units.
However, in response to another question from investors, Totoki added that the earnings contribution from the PS5 would be "a negative contribution for the time being" -- implying that each unit may be selling at a loss.

Sony is handing out free adapters for its PlayStation Camera, for players wishing to be able to play VR games on their PS5.
The PlayStation 5 is not compatible with the camera currently used on PS4 to play in VR and its new HD camera is not compatible with PSVR either, meaning the PlayStation VR headset can't be used on PS5 out of the box.

Virtual reality's big breakthrough might not happen for a while, according to Sony.
During an interview with the Washington Post, PlayStation's CEO Jim Ryan said it could be a couple of years before VR actually takes off.
"I think we're more than a few minutes from the future of VR," he said. "PlayStation believes in VR. Sony believes in VR, and we definitely believe at some point in the future, VR will represent a meaningful component of interactive entertainment. Will it be this year? No. Will it be next year? No. But will it come at some stage? We believe that. And we're very pleased with all the experience that we've gained with PlayStation VR, and we look forward to seeing where that takes us in the future."
The PS5 is not compatible with PSVR out of the box, with Sony handing out free adapters for players to be able to use their headset with the upcoming console. The platform holder still supports the headset though, with Hitman 3 coming to PSVR for instance.

Sony has detailed a number of accessibility features built-in to the PlayStation 5 when it launches next month.
In a blog post, Sony said that the PS5 will include the accessibility features already available on the PS4 including text to speech, closed captioning, inverting colors, and custom button assignments.
It also adds a number of new features, including a voice dictation feature to allow users to input text without using the virtual keyboard, as well as a screen reader to assist visually impaired users and extra text-to-speech options that will take typed text messages and speak them aloud to party members to assist deaf or hard of hearing users.
All of the above features will support US English, UK English, Japanese, German, Italian, France French, Canadian French, Spain Spanish, and Latin American Spanish at launch.

Sony has taken legal action against a peripherals manufacturer that was selling custom faceplates for the upcoming PlayStation 5 console.
VGC reports CustomizeMyPlates.com -- previously known as PlateStation5.com -- has cancelled all orders and pulled its range from sale.
However, at the time of writing, the products still seem to be listed on the website.
The company was offering unofficial faceplates for PlayStation 5 in a range of colours, following a Sony video showing the official white plates can be removed.
It was working with manufacturers in the UK and China to build the plates based on the officially released PS5 specifications, and aimed to ship the first products to customers within two weeks of the console's upcoming launch.
The site told VGC it carried out due diligence and believes that, since Sony's patents on the faceplates is still pending, it was legally allowed to create its own alternatives.

UK retailers have warned customers that buying a next-gen console on launch day is unlikely to be possible without a pre-order.
Long lines of customers queuing up for a midnight launch is a common feature at the launch of each new generation of consoles. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has introduced uncertainty for customers without a pre-order.
As reported by Video Games Chronicle (VGC), the UK's leading games retailers have been advising their customers on what to expect ahead of the new lockdown that will be enforced in England from Thursday, November 5.
GAME told one customer on Twitter: "We do not have confirmation that we will have stock on launch day for customers that don't have a pre-order."
Smyths, another major retailer, said that it has fulfilled its pre-order quota for the PlayStation 5, and "we cannot guarantee we will receive more stock before the end of the year."
Speaking to another customer on Twitter, Smyths said that "there may be a limited amount of stock available for general sale after all pre-orders have been fulfilled -- however, we couldn't guarantee this I'm afraid."

The gamer reaction to Microsoft's huge acquisition of Bethesda last month reminded me of a similar moment almost 18 years previously.
When Microsoft bought Rare for $375 million in September 2002, Nintendo fans reacted with dismay. Consumer responses ranged from 'they're overrated anyway' to 'Nintendo has to go and buy Capcom'. The thought of losing Banjo-Kazooie and Perfect Dark was heartbreaking to that fanbase.
We saw a similar reception to the Bethesda acquisition, although this time primarily from PlayStation players. Doom, Wolfenstein, and obviously Fallout and Elder Scrolls, are massive brands with a huge audience on Sony's devices. Microsoft hasn't said these games won't come to PS5, but that hasn't stopped gamers urging Sony to react by buying Konami or Sega or anyone else who can help soften the blow.
The response from PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan to us, and other media outlets, is that Sony doesn't need to do that. It will inevitably acquire more studios, it's been doing that consistently for 25 years, but the focus is on 'organic growth'. By that he means, giving his existing teams like Naughty Dog, Insomniac, Media Molecule, Guerrilla Games and Sucker Punch the funds they need to make more games at a bigger scale.

Sony has warned that there will be no additional PlayStation 5 stock in store on launch day.
In the interests of safety during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, the platform holder is concentrating on online distribution for its first wave of next-generation consoles.
In a blog post, the company said no units will be available in stores on launch day -- either November 12 for the US, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia and New Zealand, or November 19 for everyone else, except China.
Instead, all launch day sales will be conducted through the online stores of its retail partners.
If customers have already pre-ordered a PS5 for collection at their local store, this is likely to still go ahead, although Sony suggests checking with the retailer to see what their plans are.

November 11th, 2020, 17:28 Posted By: wraggster
I was excited to get hands on with PS5 and Xbox Series X, not just because I love games, but because I really wanted to understand why we needed new consoles in the first place.
In this pandemic ravaged year, I've not been able to go to E3 or Gamescom or EGX and try them, so it's been impossible to understand why these new machines were necessary. Sure, the traditional seven-year period was up, but in a generation where games have taken so long to make, did we have to stop at seven? We've had one solitary Rockstar game, and even more prolific studios like Naughty Dog have delivered just a couple of major releases. I thought I'd have played at least one new Ken Levine game on my Xbox One.
I had a recent discussion with a fellow journalist who called 2020 a "great swan song for PS4," referring to major, excellent games like Dreams, Final Fantasy 7, The Last of Us Part 2 and Ghost of Tsushima (with more to follow). But this year didn't feel like a swan song to me. It felt more like a peak. The PS4 was firing past 100 million users, more people were engaged than ever, the games were (and are) still coming... I couldn't understand why now is the time to trade the machine in, or relegate it to the other TV so it can enjoy its retirement as the Netflix delivery system.
