Mass Effect 3's multiplayer suite will be bolstered by a new enemy race and unlockables. The "Retaliation" DLC pack will be free to all Mass Effect 3 owners when it launches next week on October 9 – PS3 owners in Europe will have to wait an extra day, October 10.
Retaliation adds the Collectors as a new enemy faction to face off against and new unlockable kits: the Turian Havoc Soldier and Turian Ghost Infiltrator. You'll also be able to unlock new Collector weapons and outfit them with new upgrades, plus BioWare is adding new "hazard" versions of existing maps toMass Effect 3's multiplayer – certain environmental dangers like sandstorms and lightning will now challenge players in addition to the enemy.
Finally, "Retaliation" adds a new challenge system to multiplayer, a database that chronicles your performance across multiplayer and awards "challenge points" for reaching certain milestones in multiplayer. Players can spend these "challenge points" on new titles and banners to customize their character profile.

Look, times are tough in America and now, more than ever, game-buying people all over the country are asking themselves "How many space bugs will I get to murder for the money I'm spending?"
Sony's and Insomniac's newly announced Resistance Collection for the PS3 has a remarkably high bug-murder-to-cost ratio, packing Resistance: Fall of Man,Resistance 2, Resistance 3 and "the best DLC" for Resistances 2 and 3 into one $39.99 package. The Aftermath Pack and skin bundle for Resistance 2 and the Brutality and Survival packs for Resistance 3 are the only DLC specifically mentioned by name, though whether that represents the full extent of the included content remains uncertain.
Release date and various further information will be made available "in the coming weeks," according to the PlayStation Blog. For now, maybe consider saving $20 and just buying the good one.

The PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale team has been very careful to treat the game's many franchises with respect, said director Omar Kendall in an interview with Polygon. "We take this very seriously, and sometimes the IP holders know best, and obviously we want to present the characters in the best way for the developers and the fans," he said, after noting that Irrational creative director Ken Levine wrote the dialogue for the Big Daddy / Little Sister character. According to Kendall, Levine "wrote every line of script and dialogue" for the pair.
The same care went into every character, with each studio getting "complete, 100 percent approval" on its characters, he said. That includes characters owned by Sony studios, like Nathan Drake, the star of Naughty Dog's Uncharted series.
As for Levine's script, we're presuming it includes several instances of "Mr. Bubbles" and "MMMRRUUUNGGHHH!"

WWE 13 offers a DLC season pass like so many other recent games, except the WWE version is called the "Axxess Program," making use of a creative spelling of the word "access" for reasons we can't fathom. The $20 pass grants access to the "Attitude Era" and "WWE" Superstars Packs, the "You're Welcome in Five Languages Pack," and Axxess-exclusive wrestlers Goldust and Diamond Dallas Page.
The "Attitude Era" pack, due on Oct. 30, includes wrestlers Rikishi, Scotty 2 Hotty, Grand Master Sexay, Gangrel, and Val Venis, along with an "Accelerator" to unlock all in-game items. "WWE Superstars," out in November, comes with Tensai, Ryback, Drew McIntyre, Yoshi Tatsu, Divas AJ Lee and Natalya, and special Championship matches. The third pack, due in January, includes Damien Sandow, Antonio Cesaro, Jimmy and Jey Uso, Brian Pillman, Chainsaw Charlie, and Diva Layla. It also comes with 20 new moves.

 We've waited years to play VBlank's Retro City Rampage, and our wait ends next week. The developer informed us tonight that the PS3, Vita, and PC versions ofRetro City Rampage will launch October 9 in North America.
Your $14.99 purchase gets you a copy of the game on both PlayStation platforms; the PC version retails for the same price, and will be available from Steam, GOG, or VBlank's own website (which dispenses both a DRM-free download and your choice of a Steam or GOG key).
The European Vita and PS3 release will also happen this month, developer Brian Provinciano told us. The WiiWare and XBLA versions are coming later in 2012.

Borderlands 3 is not currently in development at Gearbox, according to studio boss Randy Pitchford.
 He said on Twitter: "Chill out internet. No one has started working on a sequel toBorderlands 2. It's fun to talk and think, but actual effort is focused on Borderlands 2 DLC, Aliens, etc."Pitchford's comments were made in response to those of Anthony Burch, lead writer on theBorderlands franchise, who recently said that Gearbox has started thinking about a third entry in the series.
"Clean and Simple truth: The only Borderlands related game development work going on right now is for Borderlands 2," Pitchford reiterated.
"Anthony was speaking to his thoughts. We're all thinking about it and it's exciting to think. But there's no project - no actual effort."
Gearbox has announced plans to release four campaign add-on packs as Borderlands 2 DLC. ABorderlands 2 Season Pass enabling players to pre-purchase all of them at a discount is available.
In CVG's 8.5 Borderlands 2 review we said the game "is saved from XP strip-mining by a sharp sense of humour and a slick, destructive multiplayer".

The Resident Evil 6 launch has been marked by setbacks, first critical ones and now technical. Capcom has confirmed to IGN that a day-one patch has rendered the game unplayable for some who downloaded it from the European PlayStation Store.
When affected users try to launch Resident Evil 6, they are told that there is a problem with the copyright protection information and the game refuses to run. Capcom has suggested a workaround, telling those who downloaded the game to uninstall it and redownload it. Once that process is complete, the game will no longer attempt to download the patch. However, this will prevent players of the downloaded version from playing against those who have a disc copy of the game. They also will be unable to use RE.net, the game's online stat-tracking component.
Capcom has promised a patch to fix these issues is "imminent," but gave no specifics beyond that.
Resident Evil 6 launched yesterday worldwide on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The PC version is set for release sometime in 2013.

 The obvious need for new games made Vita’s near total absence from Sony’s E3 conference all the more galling. The company was quick to respond to the tide of negative feeling with an assurance that Vita was most definitely present, with 25 playable games on the show floor. But it wasn’t until August’s Gamescom that we saw clear signs that Sony recognises Vita is in severe danger of being stuck with the same ‘no games’ label that PS3 took so long to shake off.

Cross platform mobile gaming service is available in nine countries and offers games on Vita and other certified devices.
PlayStation Mobile is now live, giving PlayStation Vita and certified-Android device users the ability to buy third party and PlayStation-produced content.
The service is available in nine countries including Japan, United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and Australia, with the promise of more to follow.

For the time being there are 12 compatible devices – PlayStation Vita, Xperia Play, Xperia Arc, Xperia S, Xperia Ion, Xperia Acro, Xperia Acro HD and three THC models – the One S, One X and One V. Both the Sony Tablet S and the Sony Tablet P are also supported.
All games support both physical controls (where available) and touch screen input.
Any purchases made on the store can be installed on up to three separate devices.

Max Payne 3's next batch of DLC, Hostage Negotiation, was supposed to launch in September. It didn't, in case you were wondering. Rockstar has delayed Hostage Negotiation to "later this fall," for $10 on PSN and PC and 800 MS Points on Xbox 360.
Hostage Negotiation includes four new multiplayer maps, the nightclubs Club Moderno and Estádio Do Galatians, and the favelas of O Palácio Strip Club and Favela Heights. Hostage Negotiation adds two new rifles, Explosive Burst booby traps, the Bomb Suit, Intimidation Mask and Filhos De Ogum avatar faction.
The following packs, Painful Memories and Deathmatch Made in Heaven, were previously announced with October release dates. Rockstar says it's "working hard" to get everything out in a timely manner.
"Our apologies to Max Payne fans who've been waiting for this one and the other upcoming packs – we're working hard to bring you this and all the other DLC and should have a release date to announce for this next pack very soon," Rockstar writes. To compensate for the wait time, Rockstar promises a new chrome weapons bonus redeemable for free to all Social Club members later this week.

The AC3 Season Pass, only previously rumored when a claimed internal GameStop document was leaked, has been officially confirmed via this week's US PlayStation Store update, which offers gamers the opportunity to pre-order the game with a Season Pass for an extra $30 over the usual $59.99 price.The PS Blog update confirms, Ubi will offer an Assassin's Creed 3 Gold Edition which, at $89.99, will come with a Season Pass which is expected to give gamers access to much of the 'extensive' DLC the developer has planned for AC3.
When asked in the blog comments if the Season Pass would be offered separately, a rep replied replied "Yup, it will".
There was no mention of a standalone price, but the $30 mark up on the Gold Edition of the game is a solid hint.
Ubisoft has confirmed an Assassin's Creed 3 release date of October 31 on PS3 and Xbox 360, with an Assassin's Creed 3 PC release date to follow on November 23. A Wii U version will be available at the console's launch.

Update: Not to be outdone, iFixit has conducted its own teardown. There aren't any shockers in the mix beyond improved repairability, but you'll find many of the components given their exact names as well as more explanations of what's been changed to shrink the PS3 a second time.

Left 4 Dead 1 and 2 have combined for over 12m lifetime sales, according to Valve writer Chet Faliszek.
Faliszek revealed the figure to VG247, as well as speaking on the company's PR approach, which consists of them pretty much shutting up and letting their products do the talking.
“We just let the game speak for itself because the internet has made this thing where, you can’t pull the wool over people’s eyes any more” he said. “They’re going to know you’re hyping. But when a game does really well at pre-release, they’re going to know that you’re not just talking a bunch of PR crap.
“I mean, the Left 4 Dead series has now sold over 12 million copies. That’s amazingly cool, and that wasn’t because I was out there like, ‘Oh my god! This game is amazing! Buy it!’”
Faliszek also confirmed the likelihood we'll see a L4D3 sometime in the future to Eurogamer.
“A 3? You know, some time down the road. Like anything, I would say that to all of our games. So that’s not a promise of when or where. I really love working on that series. It’s one of my favourite series. It’s just so much fun with the characters and the world. I love zombies and I love horror. So, yeah.”

Sony wants to capture the lucrative family market with its new 12GB PlayStation 3.
The firm has bundled two of the biggest family products coming this Christmas with the console. Parents can get a pack that includes the firm’s new Wonderbook offering, as well as a set that features the next game in the Skylanders series.
But the new PS3 bundles are not all about the families, with the 500GB edition of the machine designed for the more ‘committed gamer’.
“PlayStation will have something for everyone this Christmas,” said SCE UK chief Fergal Gara.
“With the recent announcement of a brand new design for PS3, we are offering a slimmer, smaller console at great value. For the more committed gamers who want to download more games, movies and entertainment content, they can take advantage of the huge 500GB hard drive.
"And for the more casual consumers for whom price is a consideration, we have introduced the 12GB version offering a more accessible entry point, but still the same high-level of spec and performance. And when you layer on top of all this amazing games such as the truly magical Wonderbook: Book of Spells, then you can see there’s a great offer for the family audience.
“We are working closely with our third party publishing and retail partners to build plans that offer a high value consumer experience. So whether you are family taking your first steps into the PlayStation universe or a seasoned gamer looking great HD gaming and entertainment, we expect to have a compelling offer for everyone.”
Other hardware bundles includes Assassin’s Creed III and Epic Mickey 2 sets.

SEGA®of America Inc. and SEGA® Europe Ltd. today announced that the HD remakes of SEGA classicsNiGHTS into dreams…™ and Sonic Adventure 2™ will be available for digital download today on the PlayStation®Network (PSN) in North America, and will be available tomorrow, October 3, on PSN in Europe for $9.99/£6.49/€7.99. Both titles will also be available on October 5 for 800 Microsoft Points on Xbox LIVE® Arcade for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft.

FIFA and Presenting Partners EA SPORTS™ and PlayStation® are pleased to announce that the FIWC 2013 kicks off today, with participants able to take part in this year’s tournament online through PlayStation®Network by registering in the game EA SPORTS FIFA 13 on their PS3™ (more information on how to register can be found on www.fifa.com/fiwc).
For the very first time, the venue for a Grand Final was put to a public vote in order to empower the FIWC community and involve the players in the organisation of this year’s tournament. Madrid emerged as the most popular destination ahead of London and Rome, giving reigning champion Alfonso Ramos the opportunity to defend his title at home.
To coincide with this news, FIFA has released the results of a survey of over 10,000 FIWC players from around the world which show that Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi is the footballer they dream most of playing FIFA 13 against. 25% of those surveyed chose the 2011 FIFA Ballon d’Or winner, followed by the illustrious pairing of Cristiano Ronaldo (19%) and Wayne Rooney (10%), who occupy second and third place respectively.
Outside of football, FIWC players were more interested in playing against global icons from a variety of backgrounds. The survey found that Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal is the most popular celebrity opponent as he received 13% of the votes, narrowly beating current US President Barack Obama (12%) and Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie (9%) to the top spot.
“We are excited to be kicking off the latest edition of the FIWC,” said FIFA’s Head of Strategy and Brand Management, Ralph Straus. “Together with our Presenting Partners, we are eager to continue the incredible growth of this event, building on the 1.3 million players who competed last year. The player vote on the Grand Final venue is a great example of the research we conduct amongst the FIWC community in order to align the strategic development of the tournament with their preferences and expectations. I look forward to welcoming the finalists to Madrid in May.”
The FIWC is the largest online gaming tournament in the world and is an official FIFA tournament offering football fans the chance to indulge in their passion for football and interact with other fans worldwide.
