Do you have multiple PlayStation Network IDs so you can access the PlayStation Store in different countries?Lots of PlayStation 3 owners do. And so does Sony worldwide studios boss and avid gamer Shuhei Yoshida. One of the most long-standing complaint against Sony's PlayStation Store set up is that the content differs by region. Because Sony Computer Entertainment divisions operate independently, what's released on the US Store may not be released on the European Store, and vice versa.Sometimes content that appears on the US Store fails to turn up on the European Store in a timely fashion or not at all. Recent high-profile examples include the disparity between release dates for the superb Walking Dead series, Retro City Rampage, and the mysterious case of the missing-in-action Valve FPS Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. There are a number of reasons for these delays. Sony's regional approach means games must be submitted to SCEA and SCEE separately. Each has their own QA and certification process and each signs their own contracts with publishers and developers. It means games can pass certification in the US and fail in Europe, for whatever reason.Localisation often causes delays, too. Europe suffers here, because of the sheer number of languages that must be dealt with. But Sony fans point to Microsoft and Xbox Live Arcade, which does not appear to suffer similar issues. Microsoft's global system means games almost always launch day and date in the US and Europe.Yoshida, who has impressed PlayStation fans with his honest approach to interviews and willingness to engage fans on Twitter, took to the comments section of the PlayStation Blogto answer concern on this subject from gamers."In light of ever-increasing globalization of the (gaming) world, do you see a future for the current regionalized approach to digital distribution, or do you anticipate one global distribution network (including one PS Store, a global SEN account etc)?" asked chrisboers. "I understand there are (legal and contractual) regional restrictions right now, but in five years maybe? Is this something Sony actively pursues?""It's a great question!" Yoshida replied. "There are both positives and negatives in the current regional approach, and I admit I have 3 PSN IDs for Japan, US and Europe..."Then, in response to Skookie30's questions on the subject (including "Why do you need to use the so called unfair muti-region system that 5 years EU haven't got the same love as SCEA & SCEJ when it comes to content?"), Yoshida suggested gamers be careful what they wish for."Managing multiple small countries with multiple languages is much more inefficient than managing a large single country," he said. "You should be careful what you wish for. If you want all regions managed by one perspective, one view of the largest country, then you are not in for a good ride."Having strong regional representation with regional operation is a great thing to be able to cater to the needs of the market."Yoshida's comments will come as little consolation to those still wondering about the status of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive on the European PlayStation Store. It launched on Xbox 360 globally and in the US PlayStation Store on 21st August - nearly two months ago.Valve recently told Eurogamer the game will launch on PS3 on these shores, but Sony has so far declined to comment despite repeated requests.

SCEA has postponed the launch of the new PlayStation Store in US and associated territories following the troubled launch in Europe and UK.
Sony has ditched the planned October 23 US launch of the new-look store to allow its developers time to "complete the final phases before launch", according to a statement from Sony Network Entertainment VP, Eric Lempel. The firm offers no new date, saying only that it will update with a revised launch "soon".
The new PS Store went live briefly in UK earlier this week before being widespread issues prompted its swift withdrawal and those already using it were diverted back to the old store. As in the US, SCEE is yet to confirm a UK 're-launch' date as it commits to ironing out the "teething issues".
Here's Lempel's full statement regarding the US launch:
"As you may know, we launched the new PlayStation Store for PlayStation 3 earlier this week in Australia, New Zealand and several countries in Europe. Although the new PS Store is operating smoothly in most countries, there have been some issues that caused inconvenience for users.
"While we've already solved many of these issues, we've decided to postpone the October 23rd launch of the new store in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Brazil. We want to be certain that you have an exceptional experience with the new store, so we appreciate your patience as we complete the final phases before launch.
"We'll update you as soon as a new release date has been set. Until then, the existing PS Store will be fully operational with the game, movie and TV content that you enjoy today."

Rockstar has revealed the next piece of DLC for Max Payne 3 is set to arrive later this month.
Following a delay, the game’s Hostage Negotiation add-on will land on October 30th for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
The content adds new maps, rifles, suits, masks, explosions, and other such things. It runs $9.99, but will be free to those with a Rockstar Pass for the game.
Hostage Negotiation was originally due out in September for MP3, but Rockstar was forced to announce the setback after the month came and went without release.

At Sony Japan you can play a version of Gran Turismo (5, probably) running at 4K resolution powered by four PlayStation 3s.This "Dramatic 4K Experience" is open to the public, and one member of said public dutifully videoed it in action (via GTPlanet).Wrote NeoGAF user spats: "I attended the 'Dramatic 4K experience' at the Sony building yesterday and got to play the Gran Turismo 4K demo, too. I was left really impressed by the whole thing, but there were a few small technical things I noticed: mainly tearing and pop in."The screen tearing wasn't the same type you have in GT5, but it would tear both horizontally and vertically in the centre, basically creating seams that split the view into four smaller screens. It was pretty minor but it was there."Then I don't remember if the spectators actually popped in or out on Eiger Nordwand (I don't think they did) but in the 4K demo a fair amount of them disappeared when you drove close enough to them. There seemed to be be some new or custom UI too. "It really was absolutely stunning ... some next level stuff."
"I'm giving off a negative impression," spats added, "but it really was absolutely stunning. The tunnel section in Eiger running at a 4K resolution and 60FPS was some next level stuff."Sony's betting on 4K resolutions for the future. 4K refers to approximately 4000 pixels measured horizontally. The resolution seems to be 3840x2160, or 2160p. Sony sells an absolutely massive 84-inch 4K telly for an absolutely massive $24,999.99. Sony also sells video cameras and projectors that deal in 4K resolutions. It seems entirely plausible, then, that a future console from Sony might go that route as well. Mind you, with most developers still shirking away from native 1080p in their games, there's a long way to go. You probably won't have to upgrade your telly just yet.Do note that Sony has used Gran Turismo as a 4K tech demo before, in 2008 with Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, as GTPlanet recalled.

It's been a while since we heard anything about Battlefield 3 post-earthquake expansion Aftermath, but today EA grounded out some more details to us, including a release date of November 27 for PS3 Premium members. We also have a debut trailer to enjoy along with new screenshots below.
The new mode is called Scavenger, a Conquest variation which ties into the expansion's setting of a devastated Tehran. You play as a lost soldier, armed only with a pistol and forced to search the rubble to find more powerful weaponry. If you're lucky, you might stumble across the scoped crossbow featured in the trailer.
The expansion adds four new maps, including the reasonably self-descriptive Epicenter and Markaz Market Monolith. There are also three new vehicles, ten new assignments, ten new dog tags, and five achievements/trophies. EA saysAftermath 'starts' releasing on November 27, first for PS3 Premium members, which translated means we can likely expect the same week-by-week roll-out as before. When it does find its way to you, it'll cost $14.99 on PS3 and PC, and 1200 MSP on Xbox 360.

October 19th, 2012, 01:25 Posted By: wraggster
The studio currently working on PlayStation Vita release Call of Duty: Black Ops Declassified is to abandon the console gaming sector.
It’s also undergoing a rebranding, adopting the new name nStigate Games. It will in future be focusing on digital and mobile titles. It claims that no jobs will be lost during the transition, though it does have a long-term aim of becoming “leaner” and “more focused”.
Nihilistic Software’s previous titles include Resistance: Burning Skies, PlayStation Move Heroes and Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects.
“There’s no bigger cliché in the videogame industry right now than to say that a studio is re-organizing itself away from retail game development and toward the new challenges of downloadable and mobile games,” it wrote on its Facebook page.
“Everyone knows retail sales are down, publishers are hurting, independent developers are suffering, blah blah blah. With this in mind, Nihilistic is announcing today that (OMG!) we are re-organizing our company after 14 years of working with retail boxed game development, and re-forming as nStigate Games, a new company focused on downloadable, on-line, and mobile games.
“So is this newsworthy? Well, honestly it probably isn’t, except that we are making this transition without any planned layoffs or leaving any debts behind. Nihilistic will fade into the sunset the way it started; a collaboration of talented folks dedicated to transparency and respect for employees. Over the next couple months we’ll get leaner as some of our talent finds new homes, and emerge as a smaller and more focused company.
“The future for nStigate is yet to be written, but the history of Nihilistic is coming to a close. We thank all the people who have worked here over the last 14 years. It’s been a privilege and a joy to serve our players for the past years.”

A new James Bond film is not the spy’s only adventure this month.
Skyfall arrives on October 26th, but Activision is determined to remind everyone that the spin-off 007 Legends game hits PS3, 360 and PC too on October 19th. A Wii U version of the game is also on the way further down the line.
A massive five-week cinema campaign will reach out to movie-goers, with trailers for 007 Legends screening ahead of movies like Ben Affleck spy thriller Argo and, naturally, the upcoming Bond flick itself.
The publisher expects the trailer to be seen by more than 5m people across the five weeks.
Activision is also working closely with Bond licensees such as Sony Mobile and Omega to promote 007 Legends around Skyfall, as well as teaming up with the official 007 website.

Technical problems with the new-looks PlayStation Store yesterday have lead to its postponement in the UK.
The new-look digital storefront, which was demoed only last week, was supposed to roll out yesterday. And it did, for a while at least. However, a host of complaints from users including problems with account authentication and random crashes led to the update being pulled and the PlayStation Store reverted back to its previous design.
Now its deployment has been delayed entirely in a number of countires, including the UK.
“The phased launch of the new PlayStation Store has been temporarily postponed in some territories as teething issues related to the global roll-out of the Store are being addressed and resolved,” a statement issued to MCV reads.
“It is really important to us that the best possible Store experience is delivered and we appreciate your patience as we resolve these matters.
“The new PlayStation Store is now live in the following countries: Australia, New Zealand, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, Belgium, Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, Poland, Germany, UAE, Kuwait , Qatar, India, Israel, Slovenia, Hungary, Turkey, Greece and South Africa.”

The guys over at Lavalit have released a new version of the beats of rage clone for the Dreamcast, Dingoo, PSP, Linux, Windows, GP2x, Nintendo Wii and Wiz.
OpenBOR is a continuation of the Beats Of Rage 2D game engine, which was originally
created by the wonderful folks over at http://www.senileteam.com.
In 2004, Senile Team released Beats of Rage, a free beat-'em-up for DOS inspired
by SEGA's Streets of Rage series and using sprites from SNK Playmore's King of
Fighters series. The game spread only by word of mouth, but it nonetheless
amassed popularity very quickly. Senile Team soon released an edit pack allowing
anyone interested to create a mod for the BOR engine.
In 2005, Kirby2000 asked Senile Team to open the source code to BOR. They
agreed, and OpenBOR was born. Development on the engine was continued by the
community, and still is to this day.
Heres whats new:

Remember when I said there would probably be no new exploit release for a long time? Well, it seems I spoke a bit too soon.
Developer Frostegater, who was behind the Mad Blocker Alpha exploit (which TN ported to his eCFW) started a poll yesterday on our forums to see how many of you would be interested by a new exploit release that would bring TN’s Kernel exploit to even more people. The answers are mixed, but it is showing that a significant amount of people indeed missed both the Urbanix and the Mad Blocker Alpha exploits.
If you’re one of these people (or if on the contrary you strongly think a new exploit should *not* be released), raise your voice and vote in Frostegater’s poll here. But based on the current numbers, I’m pretty convinced the release is going to happen. This will probably be through one of our Ninja releases, although the people behind the exploit might want to go a different route…
Again, there are pros and cons to such a release. If this gets released now, it only benefits the few people who already missed 2 exploits, but if the hackers wait for a firmware update by Sony, then the exploit will be less useful since we can safely assume that TN’s kernel exploit will be patched with the next Firmware… (still confused? Check for an explanation of the difference between the user mode and kernel exploits involved in this hack, here)
Well, either way, stay tuned, and if you already got CN’s eCFW running on your Vita, be a kind soul, and let your friends know, so that they don’t miss out for a third time!

via http://wololo.net/2012/10/18/release...open-cma-r4-5/
Open CMA version R 4.5 makes it easier to install and use as well as fixes and optimizes for older operating systems. This Version has also been tested to work on all Vita Firmwares. This Version is built on Virtuous Flame’s OpenCMA; This is unofficial as it is not by VF. Credit goes to him however for his dedicated hardwork and amazing talent on OCMA. This R4.5 Version & Tutorial is by myself (Jd8531)
Download link: http://wololo.net/downloads/index.php/download/1252
What is Open CMA?
Open CMA is the content manager to copy files to the Vita and back but without any internet connection unlike the official Sony CMA. It will also not sneak a patch or do a forced firmware update on your device if one comes out and it will not send any data to Sony or their servers about whats being copied, edited, and transferred. Open CMA also does not collect data regarding crashes.
In General it:
1. Allows offline transfers on either PC or Vita.
2. Allows lower firmwares to transfer.
3. Disallow the sending of information to Sony.
4. No contact to Sony’s servers.
5. Opencma prevents cma from auto updates.
6. It also allows you to transfer anything black listed, it doesn’t check their servers before you copy to mainly see if it’s on the PSN. ChangeLog
———————————————-
-Easier to Install and Setup
-Optimization for Windows XP (There still may be some issues, XP is outdated and its recommended to use this on Windows Vista, Windows 7 & 8)
-Freezes and Bugs during install
Instructions
————————————————
1. If you have any type of open CMA already go to where it is installed and delete all of the contents inside
2. If you do not have any CMA or have deleted the contents from step 1 make sure your file structure is correct
Should be something like this (C:\Program Files\Sony\Content Manager Assistant)
3. Inside the Content Manager Assistant folder extract all of the contents of r4.5 into the folder.
4. Run setdll.exe
5. Run run.bat
6. Thats it enjoy! You can create a shortcut of CMA.exe to your desktop for fast launch.
General Troubleshooting
————————————————
If you still have issues after r4.5
-Try to reboot the PsVita
-Run steps 5 and 6 in Admin mode
-Replace the psp2-update.xml with a specific one for where you live

via http://wololo.net/2012/10/17/did-son...ow-on-the-psp/
The Vita is progressively pushing its older sister out of the picture, and even though Japan is still seeing a few releases for the PSP, it is clear now that Sony is focusing on the Vita and the PS3. More than 2 weeks after the leak of a PSP Kernel exploit inside the Vita’s PSP emulator, followed by the release of an eCFW by Total_Noob (which, technically, enables PSP piracy on the Vita), no update on the horizon.
Back in the days of the PSP, it was not unusual to see each Kernel exploit followed by a firmware patch from Sony within a few days. This time, although Total_Noob revealed his Kernel exploit 2 weeks ago, we have yet to see firmware 1.82 and its obligatory “stability improvements”.
Now, the situation is not that bad for Sony. First, even though the Kernel exploit is potentially still here, Sony’s services were relatively quick to remove the exploited games involved with the hack. To clarify once again, the games are not where the Kernel exploit lies, they are just an entry point to the exploit, through a User mode exploit. What this means is that the exploit is still here on 1.81, and anybody with a new user mode exploit could get access to it (for those who missed both the Urbanix and the Mad blocker alpha exploits). Technically, Sony is still in “danger” of seeing more people getting access to this exploit, until the next firmware revision.
Some people close to Sony have told me numerous times that Sony don’t really care about the PSP emulator on the Vita, which is way they don’t care too much about patching those exploits… and yet, surely the amount of money they’re getting from PSP sales on the PSN from Vita owners must not be negligible… Well after all maybe it is (I estimate that less than 3% of Vita owners have access to TN’s Kernel exploit), and maybe that’s why they don’t care too much about fixing it too fast?
But I have another theory: isn’t it possible that Sony has lost some critical Know-how on the PSP? As their engineers moved to the Vita, with a different CPU architecture, a whole new Kernel and firmware systems, surely the PSP-dedicated teams must be shrinking, and so does the knowledge of the system. I’m of course making a wild guess here, but could it explain why they decided to patch the Monster Hunter exploit directly from the Vita, rather than doing it inside the PSP Emulator, like they had done so far? Is it that running QA on the PSP emulator ads too much overhead in a new firmware, that they are afraid to touch the PSP firmware when they do a new release?
This is again a wild theory absolutely not based on insider info, but from what I have been told by the people who have looked into Kermit and other PSP-emulator related stuff inside the Vita, the people who implemented the PSP emulator on the Vita did not seem to be really aware of how the security works on the PSP, making some critical mistakes along the way.
Between that, the relatively long waiting time for the yet-to-be-seen firmware 1.82, and the “let’s patch the vita OS rather than the PSP firmware for PSP exploits” attitude, I am wondering if Sony has progressively lost technical knowledge on their own device, as their engineer teams moved on to other projects…
Do you guys think it might be possible today that some hackers actually know much more about the PSP than Sony themselves?

October 18th, 2012, 00:05 Posted By: wraggster
Sony appears to have reverted UK PS3 owners back to the old PlayStation Store after today's troubled redesign launch.
SCEE launched the new PlayStation Store today, which introduced a much-improved interface but, unfortunately, a fair few glitches too.Users waited for long periods to launch the store, as demonstrated in our video tour, while many were unable to add funds to their wallets and PS Plus subscribers found their subscriptions were going unrecognised.
Now it appears that SCEE has temporarily withdrawn the new PS Store from service as it tackles these issues. Multiple users are now reporting that they have been diverted back to the old store following a PS3 system restart, with the new update nowhere to be found. Those logging in for the first time today are also not seeing the prompt for the new store update.
A spokesperson for PlayStation did not confirm or deny the problem in a statement issued to CVG.
"The store is already available in ANZ and the Nordics, with more switching to the new store all the time. We look forward to introducing the new look store to the UK market shortly," the company said.
Sony said earlier today that it's aware of a number of launch day issues, which it's working to address.
"The speed will improve greatly over the next 24 hours or so as launch day creases are ironed out," the platform holder said this afternoon on the PlayStation Europe Twitter account.
"For anyone having trouble adding funds to your wallet on the new Store - apologies, this issue will be fixed in the next couple of hours," Sony added.

Sony vowed a long (long, long) overdue PlayStation Store remake starting this week, and it delivered just that today with launches in Europe as well as Australia and New Zealand. As promised, the PS3 shop's cleaner design scales more elegantly from standard to high definition, brings more intelligent searching and makes it easier to find everything related to a given game. We still wouldn't be too eager to dive in just yet, as there's been hiccups early on -- the sheer amount of traffic has reportedly brought the new store to a crawl, on top of teething issues with adding funds and recognizing PlayStation Plusmemberships. Sony has promised fixes, but we're suddenly not feeling so bad about having to wait for that October 23rd North American launch.

Video game developers are always looking for new ways to give players a more immersive experience. But with several motion-controlled systems widely available and a viable virtual reality headset in the works, what else could be done to make games seem more realistic? Sony may have an unexpected answer with a recent patent that describes a controller that changes temperature between hot and cold to match in-game actions. With the controller giving 'temperature feedback,' the idea is that players would be able to more closely feel what their character feels, from getting hit with a fireball to traveling through a blizzard."
