Says new consoles and future of cloud gaming makes him "horny"
Grasshopper Games
Grasshopper Manufacture
Sony's PlayStation 4 events revealed that Goichi "Suda51" Suda's Grasshopper Manufacture would develop a title for the new machine, but now the industry figurehead has explained why the idea of the new console's features makes him "horny."
"I think that in the future, cloud delivery will become totally commonplace," he said in his Famitsu column, translated by Edge. He predicts that gamers will soon have an ID to allow them to play their games on any device from any location.
"We have to decide how to find our own victories and present games that express the Grasshopper world. And that makes me horny"
"That this play style will become a reality is futuristic enough. But in addition, cloud saving becoming standard practice is an evolution in itself. It will add new value and will surely result in new ways to play."
"Thinking about the future of this stuff and then constructing and outputting something appealing is our job as game designers, and from that challenge we can take new strength. And that makes me horny."
Suda51 is best known for his innovative and often surreal games like Killer 7, No More Heroes and Shadows Of The Damned.
"As has been announced, Grasshopper Manufacture will make games for PS4, as will (parent company) GungHo Online Entertainment and (sister company) Acquire. I can't go into detail at this stage, but for sure the new challenge is exciting," he added.
"During PlayStation Meeting 2013, Sony showed such a strong vision. Now we have to decide how to find our own victories within that and present games that express the Grasshopper world. And that makes me horny again."
Sony is expected to reveal more details about the new PlayStation 4 at E3 in June.

More than 26 million people watched Sony's reveal trailer for its next-generation PS4 console last month.
The video, which can be viewed below, topped YouTube's ads leaderboard for February 2013 with five million more views than the next most popular ad, which was from Samsung Mobile USA.
The rankings are based on which advertisements YouTube users chose to watch and share with other users, rather than just the unavoidable pre-roll ads that accompany almost every video on the site.
Sony's PS4 trailer outperformed spots from car manufacturers Jeep, Ram Trucks and Chevrolet, plus Pepsi's take on current fad Harlem Shake. Many of the ads first aired during last month's Super Bowl in the US.

Ubisoft wants to ‘redefine piracy in modern entertainment’ with Assassin’s Creed IV.
The new title features a new pirate assassin, but this is a far more serious take on the pirate story than Treasure Island and Pirates of the Carribean – something that’s new to video games and Ubisoft hopes it will reach a mass audience.
“We have a fantastic opportunity for pirates in video games,” said lead content manager Carsten Myhill.
“Certainly when Assassin’s Creed III naval came out, there was a clamour from the fans for a pirate game. There’s no-doubt that the people want it.”
He added: “But it’s not easy. It takes a very talented team, a lot of experience and great tech. It’s one thing having good naval combat, but combining that with good boarding and land-based gameplay in a seamless way, is hard to do.
“We’re staying away from cliches. Things like walking the plank, parrots on the shoulder and hooks for hands. We are giving pirates the HBO, reality treatment. And that allows us to redefine piracy in entertainment. No longer is it for kids.”

Developing for PlayStation 4 is leaner than making games for PC and its Share button could change the way we play console games, says Jonathan Blow.We spoke to the Braid creator after he took to the stage at PlayStation Meeting to announce that his next project The Witness will be a launch window exclusive on PS4. Blow seemed impressed by the new console’s power and its developer-friendly architecture.“For The Witness we’re mostly interested in the base machine and how fast it is – the fact it has faster RAM than a PC, which really helps in shuttling graphics resources around, and since it’s not running a heavyweight operating system like Windows that gets in the way of your graphics,” he told us. “Rendering stuff through Windows has an impact on performance. Since a console is just about games, that doesn’t happen, and the equivalent game will run faster. And if you can target to specific hardware you can make it run faster, too.”He added that the addition of the Share button is integral to the new console, stating that that PS4 has been built around the social feature.“In general, as a platform feature, it’s super interesting,” he said. “One thing that most game developers have become really aware of is that over the past couple of years on YouTube the whole livecast and commentary thing is really huge.”“A lot of people are paying a lot of attention to it now and it’s interesting to see what happens if you base an entire console around it. That’s what’s crazy about PS4 – it has a chip that’s always recording to a maybe two-minute buffer. After something cool happens, it’s there in the buffer. That’s the sort of thing that’s really going to change the way something’s used.”You can read more from Blow about why The Witness is coming to PS4 first through the link, and the full interview later this afternoon.

Jpcsp SVN r3027 is compiled. JPCSP is the most advanced PlayStation Portable(PSP) emulator, allowing you to play your PSP games on a PC. Even though Jpcsp is written in Java, it can already reach 100% PSP speed on a lot of commercial games... and the emulator performance is constantly increasing. Jpcsp takes full advantage of dual-core processors, matching the PSP dual-core architecture. Even a quad-core can give a small performance improvement by leaving free CPU cores for the Java JIT Compiler and the graphics cache.
Jpcsp SVN changelog:
r3023
Fixed swapped buttons in sceUtilitySavedata and sceUtilityMsgDialog: always take
the button configuration from the dialog parameters, not from the system
parameters.
r3024
Fixed sceGeListEnQueueHead (was broken after display of sceUtilitySavedata in
PSP screen)
r3025
Fixed incorrect compilation of sequences of "sw" instructions: rare cases, issue
introduced by r2991.
r3026
Improved compatibility of sceIoDevctl(cmd=0x02425823): no thread delay.
r3027
Improved sceKernelTerminateThread: set correct thread exitStatus. Improved
restart of thread that has been terminated.

New beta version of Sony Playstation 2 emulator for Windows has been released. Changes:
- microVU/VU Int: Implemented T-Bit/D-Bit handling on microVU.
-Dreamworks Over The Hedge actually requires this to load. Interpreter kind of
had it right, but didn't stop the VU on these flags, causing the graphics to
look bad and hang on the start button, works fine now.

via http://wololo.net/2013/03/07/ps-vita...wo-psn-access/
As you all know, We have reached the first year with our Ps Vita!! Sony was so generous in fact, To give us free games. If you did not know, read Minimur12′s article here.
Some of you (like me) who own only 1 Vita, and are on 2.02 with the Uno hack could not seem to obtain it, Because you cannot get it from the online store, nor the PS3 store… But, There are still some rays of hope!! We have found some methods (thanks to user “capnwinky”) to bypass this and get the games. Here are some methods used to obtain the games, and when you update, and (hopefully) when we have a hack, we can enjoy them with leisure.
Method 1
The first method to “GET” the games is to usually and (obviously) get it from the Vita store. But this comes in with a heavy price… We have to sacrifice our eCFW and update. We can have access to the PSN store, But no backups, homebrew, or TN-V. Some of you, who have decided to update was only for the PSN access. There is no known exploit on 2.05 except for the one with Total_Noob. Uno could potentially be the last exploit. Read about it here.
Method 2
The second method is to get it from the Mediago store. Just use the search function to get it. Technically speaking, we won’t actually get the games and will be able to transfer it to the Vita, But, will actually be able to keep it in our downloads list for future use. This is chosen by many because they might not have a PSP or since they think this method is easier. Either way it works and make sure you get your hands on them!
Method 3
The third and the last way to get them. I bet that many of you, who were all late PSPers would own a PSP system (like me). Since we all have one, just access the PSN store on the PSP, use the search function, and download the games and keep it on your downloads list.
So, That is it!! make sure you get them!! And big thanks to capnwinky for showing us these wonderful methods. you can see his thread here.
Warning:They will only be free for 1 week, ending on the morning of Tuesday, March 12.
(so far, this has only been announced for the US region. (Finally!)

Persona 2: Eternal Punishment will be downloadable from the PlayStation Store on Vita and PSP starting March 12, thus making it possible to collect the whole Persona series from the comfort of your Vita.
The PSOne Classic was released in February, intended for use on PS3, PSP, and Vita, but mysteriously only playable on PS3. That was later patched to work on Vita and PSP, but only when transferred from PS3. Now, it is finally being added to the store on those platforms.
PSOne Classics on Vita can be kind of complicated.

The next volley of downloadable content for the Angry Birds Trilogy – the retail released and priced Xbox 360 and PS3 version of the mobile best-seller – have been revealed. The 'Fowl Tempered' DLC pack includes 135 new levels culled from classic franchise episodes, such as Back to School and Haunted Hogs fromAngry Birds Seasons, for $5 (400MS Points). The farm fresh content is available now for both platforms.
Fowl Tempered also features the pink bird Stella, whose special ability captures objects and enemies before floating floating to the sky and dropping them onto the ground below violently.
The first DLC released for Angry Birds Trilogy was the Anger Management pack, a collection of 130 levels also taken from original Angry Birds games that didn't make it into the retail Trilogy. As of last month, Angry Birds Trilogy sold over one million copies and plans were announced for ports to the Wii and Wii U.

Vita sales were "quite low" in the run-up to Christmas but "absolutely exploded" at the height of the festive season, according to Sony Computer Entertainment UK MD Fergal Gara. Asked how he rated the handheld's performance in its first year on the market, the executive told MCV: "Vita really, really responded as we went into Christmas."We had a pre-Christmas lull where sales were quite low. But that absolutely exploded 20-fold from that low-point into the peak of Christmas. That's very encouraging and shows that with the right promotion and software we can light that fire."Gara also admitted that the system's software release schedule currently appears light, but promised: "It looks bare in terms of what we have announced. The cupboard won't be bare."In the same interview, Gara suggested that the firm's big PS3 Christmas game, Wonderbook: Book of Spells, didn't perform as well as it had hoped, noting that "it could have sold better".Vita sales rocketed in Japan during the week ended March 3, thanks in no small part to the Vita price cut introduced in Sony's home country on February 28.Asked last month whether a similar Vita price cut is planned outside of Japan, a SCE UK representative told us: "The price cut announced today is for the SCE Japan region only and we have nothing to announce at this time regarding pricing within the our own region."Vita celebrated its first birthday in Japan before Christmas, having launched on December 17, 2011. For a thorough analysis of the handheld's first year performance, check out our feature, A second look at PS Vita.

God of War: Ascension developers from SCE Santa Monica have told us thatPlayStation 4 ticks all the right boxes and will enable the studio to revisit technically demanding ideas it previously had to shy away from. "The first thing that hit me was just the power of it," Jason McDonald, Ascension's lead combat designer, said in a new interview."It's been a long time since the last generation started so it feels like a significant boost. It means that certain scenarios and ideas that we shied away from in the past, because they were too technically demanding, can be re-examined."Ascension's lead designer, Mark Simon, added: "The thing is, when you look at the specs, there's no way you can say 'oh there is clearly this thing missing'."As if any games studio in the world would be saying 'oh no, eight gigabytes of GDDR5 memory is not enough'. I mean, holy shit, how are going to use all of that?"Sony revealed the PS4 last month and confirmed a PS4 release date of "holiday 2013" in at least one of Japan, Europe and the US.

The UK games industry needs to increase its retail base before the next gen consoles, says Sony.
The firm told MCV it hopes the PS4 can provide the ‘kick in the market’ that the High Street is crying out for. And encourages existing specialists to expand its store count and for non-games retailers to fill the gaps left behind by closures at GAME, HMV and Blockbuster.
“There is more work to do to make sure the retail base is in strong enough shape to take us into the next cycle. And obviously to secure the core of sales in 2013,” UK boss Fergal Gara told MCV.
“It could happen with a retailer re-entering the space or entering it for the first time. Or it could be that some of the existing players extend their store base to make sure there are enough outlets on relevant High Streets. We certainly don’t want to see us become an online-only market. We value the bricks-and-mortar experience greatly.”
Sony suffered only a slight slowdown in sales last year, but acknowledges that the market is in need of excitement to lift it out of the doldrums. And PS4 could be that excitement.
“The market overall is not as healthy and the inevitably consequence of that is there has to be some resizing or downsizing,” added Gara.
“But the kick in the market that everyone is looking forward to, we hope we have laid down the foundations for that with PS4, so that we can reignite the market and stabilise retailers that are there, maybe bring some back who have left. Here’s hoping we can do our bit to revitalise retail.”

March 10th, 2013, 21:24 Posted By: wraggster
Sony’s developer-first approach makes PS4 preferable to the next Xbox, which is “not strictly about games”, says Jonathan Blow. He also suggested that difficulties working with Microsoft in the past were a factor in the decision to work with Sony. The Witness was unveiled as a timed PS4 exclusive at PlayStation Meeting last month. Speaking as part of an interview to be published in full on Monday, Blow outlined Sony’s attitude to working with indies on PS4. “I do think they realise that downloadable games are going to be bigger than they ever have been, and I think they realise that part of success in that area is having developers who are making the most interesting games want to be on their platform.”Blow later explained that past experiences with Microsoft and the direction it is expected to take with its next Xbox make Sony the preferable partner.“Yeah, there were a lot of reasons why it was a good choice,” he said. “Some were technical – we haven’t officially been disclosed on Microsoft’s next console, but we do see the same leaks as everyone else has, and they seem plausible. To me they talk about a console that is not strictly about games. It’s trying to be the centre of the living room device, which is fine and maybe it’s the right thing for Microsoft to do, business-wise. I don’t know; I actually don’t think it is, but they’ve certainly thought about it more than me! As a place to put the best, highest performing version of our game on, it doesn’t seem as good a choice.”“I’ve had a bad time working with Microsoft in the past,” he continued. “Maybe not super bad, but a moderately bad time in terms of business relationships. Other developers who are friends of mine have had a horrible time, so the idea of signing up again with Microsoft isn’t something I’d have ruled out, but there’s a certain amount of dread I have about doing that again. I don’t have that with Sony. Who knows, maybe it’ll turn out to be just as bad at the end! But I don’t think so. The people we’re talking to on a daily basis there are just really good people, and we’re happy to work with them. We’ll see how it goes.”

March 10th, 2013, 21:22 Posted By: wraggster
Hideo Kojima has described PS4 as a logical evolution of the PlayStation platform and welcomed its social aspects, but stressed the importance of quality software for the next-gen console.Speaking to us after the launch of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, Kojima said that he was too busy to actually watch Sony’s PlayStation Meeting, but when we described it to him, he responded: “Of course, I know what the hardware is, but I want to see how other companies are using it. First of all, I think that’s great, but it’s nothing special; you could see it coming. It’s the logical evolution of the platform and I think it has to head in that direction, hearing what you said is not surprising.”“Honestly, I think all of that is good and great,” he continued. “Social aspects, the multidevice direction: that’s correct, that’s the way to go. But just because it has these features doesn’t mean it’s going to be a success. What will really determine whether or not it sells is what titles will be available for the platform. And unfortunately, even though I am friends with Mark Cerny, he’s never told me what other studios are working on. I even ate a meal with him recently and he didn’t tell me anything.”You can read the full interview in the next issue of Edge magazine, on sale March 14th.

Writing in his regular column in the latest issue of Japanese game magazine Famitsu, Goichi Suda – better known as Suda51, the lunatic visionary behind No More Heroes and Lollipop Chainsaw – has this week shared his initial thoughts on PlayStation 4.“I’m writing this just a few hours after the reveal of PS4,” begins Suda, whose Grasshopper Manufacture studio is currently at work on multiplatform title Killer Is Dead. “The PS3 has been on sale for seven years but it’s still very much alive and doesn’t feel old at all. The life cycle for hardware has gotten longer, I keep thinking. But saying that, I’m thrilled that we can welcome the PS4 at the end of this year.”He goes on to detail his first impressions. “I think that in the future, cloud delivery will become totally commonplace,” he writes. “Social networking has certainly done that. To be able to play anywhere, on any device, with shared data – this will be an alluring new feature for games. You’ll have your own personal profile or ID that you can access from many different devices and enjoy your game from anywhere, in various different ways.“That this play style will become a reality is futuristic enough. But in addition, cloud saving becoming standard practice is an evolution in itself. It will add new value and will surely result in new ways to play. Thinking about the future of this stuff and then constructing and outputting something appealing is our job as game designers, and from that challenge we can take new strength.“And that makes me horny.”
