The updates keep coming! As the latest VHBL release was a bit precipitated due to external events, the first release made by Acid_Snake and Qwikrazor87 wasn’t optimal, and some of you reported issues running, among others, famous Super NES emulator Snes9XTYL. Qwikrazor87 has been hard at work over the past few days to address all these issues. We have to keep in mind here that this is an unusual situation, not only because the exploit was announced much earlier than was initially planned, but also because technically, if you count the US/EU variations, the VHBL had to be ported (and maintained!) to a total of 8 games. This is a lot to test, and obviously the hackers don’t have all copies of all games. It so happens that most of the testing happens on PSPs, and sometimes tiny inconsistencies with the PSP emulator on the Vita can lead to bugs such as the one experienced in Snes9XTYL.
This latest patch fixes Snes9xTYL issues, but also seems to improve the experience in other homebrews. Some people have reported a better stability in Gameboy Advance emulator gPSP.

Those of you who have been trying to use our latest VHBL release on game Arcade Pool (& Snooker) were out of luck, as it seems a tiny bug made it to Qwikrazor87′s port on this specific game (both US and EU version).
Qwikrazor87 has found that one of the sound threads from the exploited games was not properly being deleted, ending up crashing the Vita. He fixed that and released a fix.For those interested in the way VHBL works, you can picture it as a parasite that takes over a “target” (the exploited game). The idea is to free as much Ram as possible without crashing the exploited game in the process. This consists in deleting all the threads and modules of the game in a specific order. Sometimes we miss one when investigating how the game works, and this means it can crash the entire console eventually. Since a hacked PSP and a Vita don’t always behave the same way when one thread is left out, this problem probably went unnoticed initially.
But I digress, you can get the updated files below. Again, this is only useful for people who were seeing a C1-2858-3 error on the Arcade Pool (& Snooker) game.

via http://wololo.net/2013/08/23/release...d-qwikrazor87/
At this point I must admit that I’m lost about the ins and outs about this recent exploit announce for the Vita 2.60, but I’ll state what I know: the exploit (or at least part of it, since the same exploit is available in several games from the same company) was most likely found by several hackers, and several of them worked independently on porting VHBL to it.
Acid_Snake precised to me that many hackers found this exploit independently, and that most of them worked together in order to keep the secret. The first public announce (a few days ago, on another website) of the exploits which triggered this “messy” release has been confirmed to not be a leak, just poor communication from other devs who were working independently on the exploit. The whole thing was in the end just a sad coincidence, but we’ll try to give more precisions about this in a further article.
Nevertheless, what we are releasing exclusively today is what I believe to be the most advanced and highest quality VHBL ports available for these exploits, following Acid_Snake’s announce yesterday. Not that I think other VHBL ports around here for the Arcade Dart exploits are bad, but because I’ve personally worked close enough with Acid_Snake and Qwikrazor87 over the past few months that I trust their skills, experience and the amount of beta testing their work has gone through. At the end of the day, a VHBL port still involves some craftsmanship and I’ll trust people with experience (Qwikrazor had done an incredible job on the 2.12 release not so long ago) more than anyone else.
That being said, know that other VHBL ports for this exploit are floating around the interwebs, and you might want to give them a try if this release is not satisfying to you, for one reason or another. We just won’t offer the same amount of support for these “other” releases than we can offer for Acid_snake’s work.
While I’m at it, for other hackers who made a VHBL port of this, let me remind everyone that VHBL is released under the gplv3 license, and that if you distribute binaries, you should distribute your sources as well. Beyond all the drama, let’s please respect the open source license of the original HBL/VHBL creators who, for the most part, have nothing to do with any of the recent mess.
Hmm, now that this is out of the way, I am proud to release the files for VHBL on Vita 2.60, from Acid_Snake and Qwikrazor87. Credits go to (copy/pasted from Acid_Snake’s announcement):
- - Acid_Snake, who originally found the exploits in Pool Hall Pro and World of Pool.
- - Frostegater, who found the same exploit in Arcade Darts, confirming that more than one game had the same vulnerability.
- - qwikrazor87, who ported VHBL to Arcade Airhockey and Bowling, as well as his great work in the community.
- - The Z, for confirming the games’ availability in all stores.
- - All of Console Heaven’s VIP members, who kept this exploit hidden for so much time.
- - Fate6 and gdljjrod, who pointed out that Pool Hall Pro was secretly patched in 2.60
- - Total_Noob and the PRO Team for their great work on the scene.
- - Wololo, who made the initial VHBL port of Pool Hall Pro a possibility and his great work in the scene.
These files will let you run homebrews on a Vita 2.60, as long as you own a legit copy of one of the following games:
- Arcade Darts
- Arcade Airhockey & Bowling
- World of Pool
- Arcade Pool (also known as Arcade Pool & Snooker in Europe)

via http://wololo.net/2013/08/22/my-vhbl...its-still-hot/
In the last several ours an italian site, whose admins found the same exploit I did, decided to release my exploit as if it was theirs, without my consent and without synchronizing with wololo.
This lead to the quick expansion of the game’s name through important news site that don’t really care if they are helping spread a harmful leak, all they want is followers, you know who you are, thanks a lot for making the scene a total mess.Leaving aside the leakers and people who supported them, here are the name of the games. That’s right: GAMES. There’s not one, or two, or three, but FOUR.
All having the same vulnerability:
- Arcade Darts
- Arcade Airhockey & Bowling
- World of Pool
- Arcade Pool (also known as Arcade Pool & Snooker in Europe)
Grab whichever game you like that is available in your store.
There is one more game that had this same exploit: Pool Hall Pro, but DO NOT BUY THIS ONE, as it was secretly patched by Sony with firmware update 2.60.The history behind these games is quite a large one, so skip it if you want.
A year ago I was contacted by a /talk member name wistine, back then I was pretty much anonymous and wasn’t that well known, but this guy decided to ask me for help with a crash he had which, while not exploitable, was pretty interesting. The crash he found was in the game Pool Hall Pro. I immediately decided to check the game and reproduce his crash, but instead, I found a better one, a crash that overwrote $ra, so it was directly exploitable, but sadly, the exploit was only available in the US stores. Not long after that, I found that the European version of Pool Hall Pro did exist, but it had another name: World of Pool. This lead me to believe that more games made by the same company had the same exploit, and that was true: Arcade Darts, Arcade Airhockey & Bowling and others. This exploit was kept a secret for a long time by A LOT of people, and nobody ever leaked, even other devs independently of me found them, and they also kept it a secret. All good until firmware 2.60 came and a few testers of Pool Hall Pro reported that the exploit no longer worked as the save appeared as corrupted to them. After checking the firmware files for 2.60 we could confirm that the game was indeed patched, but none of the other games with the same exploits were. I knew it was just a matter of time before Sony realized that other games had the same exploit as Pool Hall Pro, so I decided to release them.
This was to be a huge Ninja Release, as these games are available in almost all stores and have a great deal of compatibility, but people who wanted fame and recognition decided to leak it and claim it theirs, and people who wanted followers

Eiconic Games, the UK developer behind Total Recoil, recently announced its new project, Final Horizon. Described as an "extraterrestrial RTS," the game will come to PS4 and Vita at an as-yet-unannounced date.
Final Horizon Creative Director Simon Credland wrote in a recent PlayStation Blog update that the game is "the evolution of tower defense," in that enemies won't crawl "slowly in single file from left to right" like other games in the genre. The game's insect-like robots will "move in an alien way" and will challenge players with missiles, pulse beams and other weapons.

GameStop managers will receive PlayStation 4 units and seven games at launch, GameStop has confirmed to Joystiq. The announcement was made at the company's GameStop EXPO, currently taking place in Las Vegas.
A tipster informs us the games to be given with the console include: Killzone: Shadowfall, NBA 2K14, Madden, FIFA 14, Need for Speed: Rivals, Battlefield 4and Beyond: Two Souls. That final one being a curiosity if we're to assume managers will receive PS4 versions of the listed games, since to the best of our knowledge, and reiterated by Sony in follow-up, Beyond is only for PS3.

Sony has "no clear plans" for bringing the upcoming Gran Tursimo 6 to Vita.
So said Sony's president of Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida, to IGNwhen quizzed on the possibility of a handheld port.
"The PS Vita is a very powerful portable system, but not quite as powerful as PS3," said Yoshida.
"As you can tell looking at GT6, it really is using PS3 to a very high level. So it's going to be really hard to move GT6 onto PS Vita," he added.
"I don't expect the whole game to be able to run on PS Vita. So there's no clear plans right now that we can talk about," concluded Yoshida, clearly reluctant to reveal other considerations the firm will likely have for bringing its flagship racing sim to its high-end handheld console.
Gran Turismo had a rough ride on PSP, having been announced in 2004 and experiencing years of delays until it finally arrived in 2009, receiving disappointing reviews for its lack of a fully-fledged career mode.
The firm has been more upfront about its plans for a PS4 version. Speaking in May at the Gran Turismo 6 reveal event, series creator Kazunori Yamauchi said, "We actually do have a PS4 version in mind, but for this holiday season, we thought it would be best for users to release on PS3 for now."
But while Polyphony Digital has spoken openly about a potential PS4 version of Gran Turismo 6, it told Gamescom attendees that the studio's vision for the project could eventually evolve into Gran Turismo 7.

The game formerly known as Yatagarasu will now be titled Legend of Raven, and is in development for Sony's handheld instead of theNintendo 3DS, for which the game was originally planned.
Development moved from the 3DS to the PS Vita "due to the incredibly overwhelming response from the fighting gaming community," Nicalis CEO Victor Rodriguez said.
Heeding the requests from fans, the game will now be known as Legend of Raven and will see its release on the PS Vita. A PC version will also be available.
As the transition is made from 3DS to PS Vita, enhancements will include a new soundtrack, parallaxing backgrounds, and ad-hoc versus play. It will also feature eight hand animated characters from the King of Fighters artist, Kotani Tomoyuki.
According to the game's official site Legend of Raven will be released Q4 2013.
In other PS Vita news, Sony's handheld recently received a price cut and will now retail for €199 in Europe and $199 in North America, and$269.95 for the WiFi and 3G model in Australia.

Monster Hunter 4 will not see a release on the PS Vitaanytime soon, says Capcom.
During a recent interview with Mainichi Shinbun Digital, as translated bySiliconera, Capcom's chief operating officer Haruhiro Tsujimoto confirmed that there are no plans to release Monster Hunter 4 on the PS Vita.
Tsujoimoto says there is a limit to how long games can be continuously developed on the same hardware. Monster Hunter was first released on the PS2 and then the PSP, and according to Tsujoimoto Monster Hunter Portable 3rd was the end of the line for the series on Sony's hardware.
"Games have ideal release periods, which also determine when their development begins. This resulted in our judgment of seeing the 3DS as the most desirable [platform for Monster Hunter 4]," says Tsujoimoto.
When asked about the PS4 and next-gen hardware, Tsujoimoto said that "while planning out game content, we will develop and judge which hardware is the most suitable. However, for the sake of the players, having it be a multi-development is the most ideal."
To the disappointment of Sony fans, Tsujoimoto clarified that despite speaking of "mutli-development", Capcom has no plans "for now" to release Monster Hunter 4 on the PS Vita. Tsujoimoto wants "as many people as possible to play it on the 3DS, and we are only thinking about making it succeed."
He goes on to reveal Capcom's goal of selling 2.8 million units seven months after Monster Hunter 4's release, which shouldn't be a problem according to Tsujoimoto as Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate on the 3DS sold 2 million copies.
Monster Hunter 4 will release September 14 in Japan, a Western release is yet to be confirmed.

Square Enix will keep Drakengard 3's dragons grounded until December 19, according to Polygon's translation of a Square Enix announcement.
Drakengard 3 is being developed by Access Games, a studio partially comprised of several core developers of the original Drakengard and Nier. The staff's Drakengard experience stems from Series Producer Takamasa Shiba and Character Designer Kimihiko Fujisaka. Nier Director and Writer Taro Yokoo and Composer Keiichi Okabe have also joined Access Games.
There are currently no announced plans to launch Drakengard 3 outside of Japan.

Japanese 2D anime fighter AquaPazza: Aquaplus Dream Match is being localized for a North American release, publisher Atlus has announced. Titled simply AquaPazza for its western release, the game will launch on the PlayStation 3 in both physical and digital flavors sometime this holiday season for $29.99. The localized version will be based on AquaPazza's most recent Japanese arcade build (version 2.01), and will maintain all of the original Japanese voice dialogue.
AquaPazza is a crossover fighter featuring characters from different eroge (read: erotic) visual novels/romance simulators developed by Leaf, a subsidiary of Japanese publisher Aquaplus. Despite this, AquaPazza is a normal, non-adult anime fighter with relatively tame visuals, especially when compared to something like Dead or Alive 5. While the game has no ESRB rating as of yet, last year's Japanese PS3 release was approved for ages 12 and up by Japan'sComputer Entertainment Ratings Organization.

Capcom currently has no plans to release Monster Hunter 4 on the Vita, according to Siliconera's translation of Mainichi Shinbun Digital's interviewwith Capcom COO Haruhiro Tsujimoto last week.
Tsujimoto explained that Capcom wants "to have as many people as possible play it on the 3DS, and we are only thinking about making it succeed." Tsujimoto cited a "limit to how long something can be continuously developed on the same hardware" as a reason for the switch up between Sony and Nintendo's platforms.
When he was questioned about developing for the PS4 and next-generation consoles, Tsujimoto's thoughts seemed to clash with their strategy for Monster Hunter 4: "While planning out game content, we will develop and judge which hardware is the most suitable. However, for the sake of the players, having it be a multi-development is the most ideal."
During the same interview, Tsujimoto stated that Capcom hopes to sell 2.8 million units of Monster Hunter 4 in seven months. Considering they managed to move 1.6 million copies of the Japan-exclusive Monster Hunter Tri-G for the 3DS, finding 2.8 million players to slay a fresh pack of monsters with enormous weapons might be a cakewalk.

With the Diablo 3 expansion, Reaper of Souls, announced at Gamescom earlier this week, and the console version of Diablo 3 to release on September 3, many have wondered: will console players get to experience the new content - not least of which is an awesome cinematic showing off Malthael, the angel of death - present in Reaper of Souls? In an interview with Polygon, game director Josh Mosqueira hinted that it could be so.
"We've got Diablo 3 on PC, we released it and then a small team splintered off to work on Diablo for the current consoles. Now the team's really focused onReaper of Souls for PC," Mosqueira said. "So if you look at the past, you can probably infer what the future might bring."
Unfortunately, that tease is all we're going to get, as Mosqueira also clarified that the teams don't have anything official to announce "at this point."

Sony has apologised to Grand Theft Auto 5 developer Rockstar and GTA fans worldwide after copies of the game downloaded from the EU PlayStation Store were cracked open by hackers.Story spoilers originating from the game's audio files are now available to view online, along with a near-complete track listing of all the game's music.Hackers legally obtained digital copies of the game from Sony Europe's servers - the company had been advertising the ability to preload the title ahead of its launch next month. The ability to do so has now suspended.Grand Theft Auto 5's encryption was then at least partially cracked. The full game is not playable, but spoiler-filled story information has been extracted from cut-scene audio files.Videos of the hacked assets are now being pulled from YouTube, and Rockstar has asked community site GTAForums.com to remove all details of the leaks. It's unclear what other data remains that is extractable, or whether hackers will be able to get the full game working in the coming days."Regrettably, some people who downloaded the digital pre-order of Grand Theft Auto 5 through the PlayStation Store in Europe were able to access certain GTA5 assets," Sony Europe exec Nick Caplin said in a statement on the EU PlayStation blog last night. "These assets were posted online.""We have since removed the digital pre-order file from the PlayStation Store in Europe. We sincerely apologise to Rockstar and GTA fans across the world who were exposed to the spoiler content. GTA5 is one of the most highly anticipated games of the year with a very passionate following, and we're looking forward to a historic launch on September 17."

Japanese indie fighter Yatagarasu was originally meant to find its way onto the 3DS, but will instead be released on the PlayStation Vita as Legend of Raven, publisher Nicalis has announced. Originally released on PC in 2011, a westernized 3DS port of Yatagarasu was announced just before last year's PAX Prime, though Nicalis has remained radio silent since. No release date has been given for the Vita version, which will be available through PSN.
The platform jump was made due to "incredibly overwhelming response from the fighting gaming community," Nicalis CEO/Executive Producer Victor Rodriguez said in the announcement. The Vita version of the game will feature parallaxing backgrounds and a new soundtrack, in addition to "lagless" ad-hoc local multiplayer.
Legend of Raven should not be confused with Yatagarasu Attack on Cataclysm, the PC-only, enhanced version of Yatagarasu that was just successfully fundedthrough Indiegogo.
