Sony has "no clear plans" for bringing the upcoming Gran Tursimo 6 to Vita.
So said Sony's president of Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida, to IGNwhen quizzed on the possibility of a handheld port.
"The PS Vita is a very powerful portable system, but not quite as powerful as PS3," said Yoshida.
"As you can tell looking at GT6, it really is using PS3 to a very high level. So it's going to be really hard to move GT6 onto PS Vita," he added.
"I don't expect the whole game to be able to run on PS Vita. So there's no clear plans right now that we can talk about," concluded Yoshida, clearly reluctant to reveal other considerations the firm will likely have for bringing its flagship racing sim to its high-end handheld console.
Gran Turismo had a rough ride on PSP, having been announced in 2004 and experiencing years of delays until it finally arrived in 2009, receiving disappointing reviews for its lack of a fully-fledged career mode.
The firm has been more upfront about its plans for a PS4 version. Speaking in May at the Gran Turismo 6 reveal event, series creator Kazunori Yamauchi said, "We actually do have a PS4 version in mind, but for this holiday season, we thought it would be best for users to release on PS3 for now."
But while Polyphony Digital has spoken openly about a potential PS4 version of Gran Turismo 6, it told Gamescom attendees that the studio's vision for the project could eventually evolve into Gran Turismo 7.
