Ok, I decided to make a contribution to the much-loved homebrew scene, so here it is, my first program, PSPpaint!
It's still lacking lots of things I want it to have, but I guess it's already mature enough for release.
PSPpaint features a sizeable brush and a color palette (for now). You can also save the pictures (they get saved in ms0:/PSP/PHOTO/PSPpaint, so you can view them outside PSPpaint). Saving creates always a new file with filename picture_x.png where x is the picture number.
I've developed it on 2.71, but it should work on other versions via eLoader (Insomniac tested it on 1.5, works fine according to him) or other ways.

News via ITworld
As if the laptop battery recall and stumbles towards the launch of the PlayStation 3 weren't enough for it to deal with, Sony Corp. said this week that shipments of its PlayStation Portable (PSP) handheld game device are well below expectations.
Sony Computer Entertainment Inc., the unit of Sony responsible for PlayStation products, expected sales this year to be below 2005's levels, but they now appear to be falling much faster than initially anticipated -- and much sooner after the launch than was the case with the PlayStation and PlayStation 2 consoles.
The PSP was launched in Japan on Dec. 12, 2004, and 3 million units were shipped by the end of March 2005, according to figures from Sony. In the financial year from April 2005 shipments jumped to 14.1 million units as the machine went on sale in North America and Europe. For the current fiscal year, from April 2006, Sony initially said it expected shipments would decline to 12 million units, but this week revised that figure to 9 million units.
Part of Sony's problem has been strong competition in Japan from Nintendo Co. Ltd. and its Nintendo DS handheld. The DS has differentiated itself from the competition with a unique double-screen layout, a touch-sensitive panel and an innovative software lineup.
For example, the "brain training" game has proved particularly popular with businessmen in their 40s, 50s and above because the software presents a series of puzzles that are said to stimulate and improve brain functions. That's helped expand sales of the handheld to a group of people that have never been gamers before.
"If you look at the availability of software, there are a lot of games for the PSP but are not particularly successful," said Hiroshi Kamide, director of the research department at KBC Securities Japan. "You don't see any million-seller games for the PSP but you do hear about them for the Nintendo DS."
The latest game software sales rankings in Japan bear this out. Seven of the top ten titles for the week from Oct. 16 to 22 were Nintendo DS titles. The most popular PSP title ranked at number 19, according to data compiled by Media Create Co. Ltd.
"The big problem is that while it's a wonderful-looking machine with a great display, the games are not so different from those you play at home on the PlayStation 2. Most of the software is knock-offs of PlayStation 2 titles and that won't do Sony any favors," said Kamide.
It's a point with which Sony appears to agree.
"Clearly on the software side, any real killer title will galvanize the sales. There have been a number of titles that have been terrific, but not the one title that defines the product," said Robert Wiesenthal chief financial officer of Sony Corporation of America, in a conference call with financial analysts Thursday.
The quick drop in shipments of the hardware is also out of line with the pattern established after the PlayStation and PlayStation 2 went on sale. The PlayStation didn't register a drop in shipments until its fifth full year on sale, while the PlayStation 2 managed to avoid a slide in shipments until its fourth year on sale. Shipments of the PSP are dropping in only the second full year since release.
To stoke demand, Sony will be looking at how to widen the device's appeal beyond hard-core gamers.
"We are preparing the wiser use of the PSP for the future and also the releasing of a number of software [titles]," said Takao Yuhara, Sony's head of investor relations, during the conference call. "We are always looking at the PSP business expansion."
The PSP includes a number of additional functions such as a Wi-Fi adapter and Web browser, and in recent months Sony has added new features such as GPS (global positioning system) through an add-on GPS receiver, and the ability to subscribe to RSS (really simple syndication) feeds.

Reuters reported on Bully's boy-on-boy kissing, brilliantly dubbed "Warm Tea," by Sex in Video Games author Brenda Brathwaite. It's only a matter of time now before the Associated Press picks up the story and news outlets across the country jump into the fray. Depending on where you live on the planet Earth, you're sure to get various versions of spin on the story. So, it's a good time to go over some developments, and clear up some issues, since our initial piece:
Joystiq has been in contact with Eliot Mizrachi, spokesperson for the ESRB, and he reaffirms that they were aware of the kissing when they gave a "T" (Teen) rating to Bully. The rating description clearly states "sexual themes" on the box.
Bully is not the first title to have playable same-sex interaction. The Sims, which also has a "T" rating stating "sexual themes" on the box, allows for a lot more than just kissing. There is even same-sex adoption.
Brathwaite said to Reuters, "It's symbolic that the diversity that's appearing in broader media is making its way to games in a way that's not insulting or necessarily sensationalistic."
Everyone's favorite anti-games lawyer Jack Thompson, sent a letter to ESRB President, Patricia Vance, "We just found gay sexual content in Bully, as Jimmy Hopkins makes out with another male student. Good luck with your 'Teen' rating now, Patty." Let's get something straight right off the bat -- Thompson found nothing. His letter wasn't sent until after Joystiq wrote about GayGamer's video, and we know Thompson reads this site. Thompson was already in possession of Bully, which he requested as part of his political Miami lawsuit to block Bully. Thompson had his chance to make the kissing part of his lawsuit.
The blond student consistently showed is not the only boy Jimmy Hopkins can kiss. Apparently one boy from each clique is kissable. There is an African-American geek who can be kissed. So, not only is there gay kissing, but interracial gay kissing as well. (Please sense the sarcasm in that bullet point)
Rockstar still hasn't made a public statement. Why should they? This is a win/win situation for them. They've done nothing wrong and the ESRB stated that they were aware of the content when rating the game. The controversy has done nothing but fuel sales. Bully was the third top-selling game in the U.S. last week according to UBS.
The ESRB would be insane if they were bullied into giving an "M" (Mature 17+) rating to Bully, as this story continues to gain traction in the mainstream press. Not only is it politically damaging, they'd be instantly contacted by gay rights advocacy groups, propelling this controversy into a civil-rights issue asking, "Why is kissing a boy different than kissing a girl?" It would also force the ginormous Electronic Arts into the mix to defend the "T " rated Sims. We're willing to wager that Electronic Arts, which has a Human Rights Campaign corporate equality index score of 88 and had transsexual game designer Danielle Bunten Berry on staff, will put up a good fight if challenged. Rockstar played this brilliantly, they slid in a topic that is controversial, but perfectly defensible, and those that would attack "Warm Tea," won't have an easy time of it compared to "Hot Coffee."

Hi all, im sure like me you would love a release of PS1P, well while we wait our friend the Anonymous Coder has gave me a video for you all to check out, its a video of Final Fantasy 7 playing on PS1P, heres what the coder said in his email to me:
I've made a video of FF7 in-game using my crappy webcam. The video doesn't show any loadings or menus because as I've told you it takes around 1min to load and that would be boring... in any case, I don't feel like I need to prove anything more, if people don't trust your word then they won't trust my images any more
Note that, as you know, the emulation itself is a lot prettier than that... also there are some occasional hiccups, but that's the webcam's fault--the game runs completely smooth.

Gamepro.com is also one of a few who recently received their copy of Vice City Stories, and they posted a few interesting things you'd need to know about the game. Firstly, they confirm that while you can jump in the game, there isn't any wall climbing that came in very handy in GTA: San Andreas.
Secondly, cops can now swim. So don't expect to trick police officers in killing themselves by driving your Splitz into the water. They say to expect a few f-bombs in the game, although I doubt it's as bad as Saints Row. Cut Scenes are said to look better than LCS, while they aren't too happy with the nighttime in Vice City Stories. Playing in the sunlight can also cause frustration.
They also say there isn't much of a training mode in the game, and with the PSP's controls, even some of the first few missions can be a big challenge.

How's it go? "There's a sucker born every minute."
According to Mainichi Interactive, in anticipation of hardware shortages, Sony will be selling PlayStation 3 vouchers in Japan this holiday. It's unclear if the "I.O.U." will require a small down payment or the entire ¥49,800. Either way, you're better off grabbing a sticky, writing the note yourself, and slapping it on your kid's forehead.

Yongobongo has releaseda new version of his paint app for the PSP, heres whats new:
yPaint v4 [0.4]a by Yongobongo
This version I have to say has probably been the version with the most debugging out of the lot.
~New Features~
File browsing - Went from a Text-Based Opener (type the name, it opens it) to a fully featured File browser for Opening PNG files Thanks to Fuzzie 360's AWESOME LowserLIB. I have modified it to support JPG and TGA loading as well, all credit to Fuzzie!
Multiple Format Saving Menu - Ah, this is also awesome! Press circle and a little menu comes up asking you which format to save the image as. Either TGA, JPG or PNG! Saves it to PSP/PHOTO and it tells you whether the save was successful or not
Bug Fixes - Self explanatory

There are three things in life that you can count on; death, taxes, and the epic soundtracks that accompany Grand Theft Auto titles. The music of Grand Theft Auto has always been much more than just an ambient background accessory. Since the incarnation of the Grand Theft Auto series, the radio has always played an essential role providing the soundscapes and music that captured the essence of the environment, story and era.
In the latest installment, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, the soundtrack is the most ambitious yet. With over 100 tracks, this is the largest number of songs of any Grand Theft Auto soundtrack, console or handheld. The epic scope of the selections rivals any other single game, TV, or film project for that matter. The soundtrack will over deliver on what fans have come to expect from Rockstar Games.
The airwaves of 1984 Vice City will be infiltrated by 8 music stations with all new licensed tracks, covering the following music formats: Rock, Pop, Ballads, Hip Hop/Electro, Disco, Soul, New Wave, and Latin. Never to be overlooked, the always hilarious talk radio format will have a home on the Vice City airwaves with the call letters; VCPR (Vice City Public Radio).

Battle lines have been drawn between publishers, specialist retailers and general entertainment stores this week after Pro Evolution Soccer 6 was sold early across the UK.
Publisher Konami has hit out at Woolworths, which was the first chain to break the street date by putting the title on sale on Wednesday morning, two days before its official release. “Normally retailers claim that they are simply reacting to early-selling by their competitors, but it seems Woolworths took a deliberate strategy of pre-empting the situation and making sure they were one step ahead of the game,” said Konami UK general manager Peter Stone. “This is not something we condone. It leads to anarchy in the market and some retailers who do not yet have stock or are unable to react quickly enough will be heavily disadvantaged.” MCV has learnt that GAME, Gamestation and Choices UK were also guilty of selling copies of the game two days before its supposed October 27th street date (Today). Both Gamestation and Choices UK openly blamed Woolworths for their decision. “Gamestation will always match when Woolworths decides to go first on any major title,” said commercial director at Gamestation Martyn Gibbs. Head of games buying at Choices UK Martin Baxter backed Gamestation in adding: “It would be commercially unviable for us not to immediately follow Woolworths’ lead.” But it wasn’t just Pro Evo – Woolworths also reportedly sold FIFA 07 on Xbox 360 prematurely on Wednesday in some areas. A spokesperson for the High Street retailer told MCV that it blamed the move on the previous actions of its rivals, implicating those who forced Sega to bring forward the release of Football Manager 2007 last week. “Woolworths is reacting to what it has seen in the market over the past [fortnight],” said a spokesperson.

As you can see in the pictures, the PS3 browser looks a lot different from what we've known to come to love on the PS2. Instead, it takes a page from the PSP design book, putting that next-gen power to work with a more elegant navigation system.
You can also see that the PlayStation store looks very different from the Xbox Live Marketplace; it has a style that's much more reminiscent of the iTunes Music Store. It also looks like it has a better hierarchal structure that should make browsing the PSOne titles and downloading games a breeze.

No home console maker (excluding handhelds) has ever dominated three generations of video games. None. Is there a 10-year or two-term incumbent cycle in the biz? Game Daily doesn't think so offering an opinion piece on why Sony won't lose the next-gen war in terms of market share. From the article: "Despite [recent] setbacks and all the negative press the company has garnered over the last six or so months, when it's all said and done the PlayStation 3 will be No.1 worldwide, although not as dominant as the PS2 has been."
How does Sony today compare to Nintendo of 1995 who were just about to lose an intended three-peat to the PlayStation? Throw in a third player with a solid second console offering and deep pockets, and it could be a whole new ball game.

Sony is clearly intent on making the PS3 the all-in-one hub for your home entertainment. A new list of media formats supported by the system right out of the box includes a variety of hard and digital formats, and should satisfy the needs of just about everyone.
The hard media has been known for some time, but here's the full list.
BD-ROM
BD-R
BD-RE
DVD-ROM
DVD-R
DVD-RW
DVD+R
DVD+RW

The PS3 will also allow you to access a variety of media file formats from the video, music and photo menus of the Cross Media Bar. We're assuming these files can be stored anywhere, including the hard disk and memory cards.
VIDEO
MPEG-1
MPEG-2 (PS,TS)
H.264/MEPG-4 AVC
MPEG-4 SP
MUSIC
ATRAC (.oma .msa .aa3)
AAC (.3gp .mp4)

We'll be sure and put all these formats to the test once (if?) we get our launch units.
