The benefits of the higher storage capacity of Sony's Blu-Ray discs have once again been pulled into the spotlight as Heavenly Sword chief development 'Ninja', Nina Kristensen, tells CVG that the game would simply not be possible on DVD.
"We have jam-packed the Blu-Ray disc absolutely full," declared Kristensen, as she confirmed rumours that the audio alone was allocated 10GB of space on the 25GB Blu-Ray discs.
That's more than an entire dual-layer DVD game, which holds a total of 8.5GB.
We wondered if this meant compression methods usually used to squeeze content onto normal DVDs had not been used, but Kristensen insisted otherwise: "We used compression all over the place. We had to be really judicious at the end with what was going on the disc and what wasn't.
"I think it's one of those things - if you give us the space we're going to fill it with stuff. It means the audio can be of a higher quality and stuff like that. It all adds to the quality of the package," she told CVG.

It's called the King of Iron Fist Tournament, but a new character revealed for the upcoming Tekken 6 looks more like he'd do better in a pie-eating tournament.
Bob is the rather uninspiring name of the overweight fighter, who has already been compared to Mario because of his blue trousers and red short-sleeve shirt.
The first image appeared in the latest issue of Japanese Arcadia magazine, which describes Bob as a "martial arts genius".
According to a translation:
"With his toned body and handsome face he was very popular. However when he was unable to beat opponents who were larger than he was, Bob became determined to engineer his body to increase power and weight while maintaining speed. For this reason, Bob disappeared from the fighting world.
"A few years later after completing his body engineering, everyone around him is shocked at his appearance! Although people are not taking Bob seriously anymore, he is confident about his newfound strength. To test his newfound power he enters The King of Iron Fist Tournament 6."
Translation courtesy of SDTekken.com.
Tekken 6 isn't expected out until the later half of 2008. Maybe he'll be even bigger by then.

US, August 29, 2007 - Sony's official confirmation of LocoRoco PS3 came quietly as part of a post E3 Japanese product announcement event. Today, thanks to the latest issue of Famitsu, we have a few new details on the game, which is officially known in Japan as "Oiedeyo LocoRoco!! Boo Boo Cocoreccho!".
Some rumors have popped up suggesting that this PS3 version of LocoRoco is actually just a fancy wallpaper program. This doesn't seem to be the case, as the game is listed in Famitsu as an action title, complete with online rankings.
There are some major differences from the PSP version. You take control this time of a butterfly, or perhaps a group of butterfiles, known as "Cocoreccho." By pressing the circle button, you can make the Cocoreccho shout "boo boo." This makes the sleeping LocoRoco in your area wake up and come to you. Your goal is to lead the LocoRoco to the stage's goal.
The game's title, incidentally, tells the whole story. "Boo Boo" is what Cocoreccho say to make the LocoRoco come to them ("oideyo" is Japanese for ordering someone to come to you).
Based on the slight blurb in Famitsu, LocoRoco PS3 seems to be an entirely different game from the PSP original. We'll have to try it out for ourselves to be sure, though. A PlayStation Network download, the game is due for Japanese release on 9/21. Pricing has yet to be announced.

Sony has issued a statement clearing up its latest announcement that downloadable versions of WarHawk will be tied like a lasso to your PlayStation Network account, so only the owner of the game will be able to play it.
The rule has been put in place to maintain the integrity of the free online service, which will also let you download the game on up to five other PS3 consoles. But if you do decide to show it off at your friend's house, bear in mind you won't be able to play it on another PS3 for 24 hours.
WarHawk is due for release tomorrow on the PlayStation Network, lifting-off at GBP 19.99.
But on the bright side of life is news that account-tying won't affect the Blu-ray version that launches slightly later on 21st September.

The ESRB is refusing to detail its reasons for re-rating Manhunt 2, despite a California legislator's demands.
Last Friday, Rockstar announced that it made modifications to the game and received an M rating from the ESRB. The game was originally given an AO rating, effectively preventing the game from being sold in the US.
California State Senator Leland Yee, whose 2005 legislation banning the sale of violent videogames was recently determined to be unconstitutional, demanded that the ESRB disclose specific reasons for the new rating.
In a written response, ESRB president Patricia Vance said:
"Publishers submit game content to the ESRB on a confidential basis. It is simply not our place to reveal specific details about the content we have reviewed, particularly when it involves a product not yet released.
"What can be said is that the changes that were made to the game, including the depictions themselves and the context in which those depictions were presented, were sufficient to warrant the assignment of an M (Mature 17+) rating by our raters."
Yee has called for the Federal Trade Commission to investigate the ESRB.

Stuffing an electronic device in your pocket simply isn't worth enduring the oddly shaped bulge if it can't play some decent games, right? Sony Ericsson seemingly agrees in an interview with Pocket Gamer, with the phone company's Peter Ahnegard (touché!) discussing the possibility of releasing a PlayStation-branded phone. Ahnegard explains that sticking the PlayStation name on a phone is easier said than done, as consumers have certain expectations from such a prominent label.
"We're not launching a brand of handset simply because we can, but because we can lead up to the expectations of the consumer," he said. "Up until today we haven't felt we could launch a PlayStation phone because it wouldn't be recognised as a true continuation of that brand of products." When further prodded, Ahnegard admits that a PlayStation phone is "obviously something that we're looking at" and expects it to materialize in some form before Christmas... "but exactly which Christmas I can't confirm!" Well, that narrows it down.

Information regarding the closed beta for PlayStation Home has been hard to come by, but thankfully IGN has managed to get a status update from an anonymous tester.
First off, let's talk about what's missing from the beta. "None of the new features or areas outlined at E3 have made it into the beta. None," said the tester. That includes transition from Home into other games (e.g. Resistance), no trophy room and no new lobby. "Sony also had a monthly roadmap of improvements/features/places they were going to implement but have not followed it," said the tester. "Home has had one update since launch."
On the positive side of things, voice chat is said to work very well, as do the game's physics and the variety of facial customization. "The features that are in home do work well. All the games are fun to play and promote communication," said the tester.
We don't know how indicative the report is, if at all, on Home's ability to launch this year, or if there is even another, even more exclusive beta with the new features included. What we saw at E3 looked good, but unfortunately we were unable to see it with multiple people in the same space.

A short while ago, i took the initiative to start a online petition to get Square Enix to start developing Kingdom hearts onto the PSP. Heres some of the information.
Email i sent to Square Enix
"Firstly i would like to say hello to all the staff at Square Enix. I have recently started a online petition to get the good staff at Square Enix to start development of Kingdom Hearts onto the PSP. As a person who is very much involved with the PSP community, we all felt as a whole that this game is a must on the Playstation Portable.
Heres the petition information-
Kingdom Hearts on PSP petition
http://www.petitiononline.com/a137d425/petition.html
I'm hoping to get over 20,000 signatures. If i do i would hope for some sort of response from Square Enix.
Sincerely,
Rafael Bernard"
Now heres the Petition information
Link- http://www.petitiononline.com/a137d425/petition.html
I'm hoping to get at least 20,000 signatures. This would mean that i will need the cooperation of the entire PSP scene as a whole and i would hope that other sites will also add this to there news sites as well.

Yesasia.com have today opened preorders for all the new colours of PSP Slim that includes the Felicia Blue, Ice Silver, Ceramic White, Lavender Blue and Rose Pink.
They are retailing at US$269.99 [~£133.83] and come with free shipping (but they dont ship to europe/UK)
Heres some info about the slim PSP for those who didnt know:
The PSP Playstation Portable revolutionized handheld gaming when it was first released back in 2004, and it's now been redesigned! Sony has improved their landmark handheld gaming console, adding new features and refining others. The new PSP is now 33% lighter, weighing approximately 189 grams, as opposed to the previous model's 280 grams. The new model is also 19% slimmer, reducing the PSP's thickness from 23 to 18.6 mm. An attractive Felicia Blue color scheme completes the PSP's slim new look.
The new PSP possesses more than just cosmetic differences. The unit has an increased RAM of 64MB (up from 32MB), and includes a new feature to temporarily store data from UMDs, thus reducing loading times. Battery life has also been increased, and the addition of a video-out port allows PSP owners to play their favorite PSP games on an external monitor. Now games, UMD movies, and media saved to the Memory Stick Duo can be played on a full-sized television! Another new innovation is the ability to charge the PSP via the USB port. Simply connect the PSP to a PC or Playstation 3 with a USB cable to initiate data transfer or charge the unit.

[UPDATE] Take-Two pushes back blockbuster to next year, saying "time-intensive" nature of dual-platform development; annual earnings estimate plummets by over $200 million.
I also read ths in PSM the other day. Apparently the real reason the game has been delayed is because of problems developing the PS3 version of the game, ergo Sony didn't want the game released on 360 sooner then PS3.*
Full Article Here
If you wan't to read the GATIV article in PSM go pick up the September issue, it's hard to miss.

Art who only a few days ago released his Heart Monitor for the PSP is back with a new release, heres the details:
Hi Guys, Here is a DIY Keypad project for homebrew developers. This is another first as far as I am aware
Note I said 'keypad' because it's a 12 key numeric type with a shift key to provide a total of 24 possible functions. I did it this way because I wrote the firmware driver to support it years ago, and it only required slight modification for use with the PSP's serial port.
Also, the keypad is neat, and I can't imagine any alphanumeric arrangement being as neat if it was knocked up at home.
I could recompile the firmware file for a 16F628 to use internal clock at a later stage. This would make the circuit a little simpler since the crystal and two caps would then be redundant.
I may or may not update this project depending on takeup/feedback. At the moment I personaly don't have any use for it that warrants crap hanging off my PSP, but with all the talk... well here it is....
Art.

Andyauff has released a new fixed version of his homebrew game Jewel Thief
This is based off of a game that I remember playing years ago where you had to take all the jewels without being captured. As far as I remember, this is just like it as far as how you play.
How To Play:
Use the analog nub to move your player (the thief). The object is for you to steal all of the jewels on the screen without being caught by the good guys who are running around. If they touch you, it's game over. Take all of the gems on the screen without being caught and you move on to the next level. Currently there are six levels. Once you beat them all, the game will start over. BUT- no two levels are the same, for the gems are placed randomly around the screen... this assures good replay value. The game starts out easy and gets harder as you progress. If you get caught, press start to restart the game.
