EA has revealed that FIFA 08 on PS3 and 360 will feature a brand new online mode for 10 of you to play at once.
It's called Be A Pro: Online Team, and will let you and four friends take control of one player each from a team - the rest will be handled by AI. A unique camera will then follow you and the action, as you face off against other teams of five from all around the world.
The feature won't be in game when it launches here on 28th September, but is expected to be a free downloadable update around six to eight weeks later.
"At EA Sports our dream is to create a full 11 versus 11 online gameplay experience in which each user will have a set position during the match and train specifically for that position," said Joe Booth, producer of FIFA 08 - echoing his promise to Eurogamer that it would be integrated in the game to sit alongside the World Cup in 2010.
"Be A Pro is the first step in this direction, and now, with the ability to deliver five versus five online gameplay as free downloadable content, we are moving even closer towards the realisation of this dream."
On top of that will be Interactive Leagues, which take all of the points won by supporters of a certain club and compile it in one giant league; alongside weekly in-game podcasts by the developers, plus regular leagues and tournaments you and your friends can set up.
It will all complement the biggest and most coherent FIFA offering to date, promising better physics, controls, tricks, graphics, more teams, video capture and uploads, and lots more.

Rock Band has been delayed in Europe until the first quarter of 2008, but will be fully localised for each territory, on both disc and downloadable content. It's also coming to PS2, home of original Guitar Hero success.
The news erupted from the EA Games Convention conference in Leipzig, where Harmonix co-founder Alex Rigopulos took to the stage to detail the much-anticipated title.
Among the highlights was a revelation that 10 new tracks would make the starting line-up for the title, but the price of Rock Band is still to be confirmed.
The ten new tracks are as follows:
- Rolling Stones - Gimme Shelter
- Deep Purple - Highway Star
- The Clash - Should I Stay or Should I Go
- Faith No More - Epic
- Beastie Boys - Sabotage
- Radiohead - Creep
- Jet - Are You Gonna Be My Girl
- Nine Inch Nails - The Hand That Feeds
- Smashing Pumpkins - Cherub Rock
- OK Go - Here It Goes Again

There's been a bit of a storm recently, with an awful lot of people's PSPs being bricked by a broken version of the latest M33 custom firmware, deliberately distributed by a certain disreputable piracy site. Here's my take on the whole situation, and maybe a ray of hope for those people who have bricked.
First off, let's talk about that ray of hope. We've been looking at the M33 code, and trying to understand exactly how these bricks have come about. The good news is that we think there may be a way to undo the bricking process in this case - in other words, we hope to be able to develop a way to fix those bricks in the near future. At this time, this is just for the M33 bricks. I can't predict exactly when this might be ready (it should be very soon), but maybe it will save some of you the hassle and expense of sending your PSP off to be repaired.
So what actually happened to cause these bricks? It's pretty simple, really. The M33-3 firmware installation process relied upon a delicate decryption algorithm. That algorithm was tied to the contents of the installer program, which had the side effect that if the installer was modified in any way, then the data being flashed to the PSP would be corrupt, and so a brick would result. Now that seems pretty dangerous - but they did at least put a warning in the README.TXT and LICENSE.TXT files, to warn people about it:
Not respecting the license will bring the PSP to BRICK, because the program will refuse to run.
You are however NOT allowed to modify the installer, the readme or this license, including the removal of one or more of them. Modification of installer covers all: icon, image, executable code, text, etc. These kind of modifications may end in the software refusing to work.
Unfortunately a site with a long history of taking homebrew releases, and modifying them to their own ends, got hold of this release, modified the credits and removed the warnings, then posted it on their site for download. So of course, people started to brick their PSPs. What's worse, is that even when the problem was identified, the site in question chose to try to cover it up by editing user comments, and did not take any action to fix the problem for at least 24 hours, leaving it up for download even when they knew about the damage it was causing.
Sadly that's just indicative of the attitude of that site to both its users, and to the authors whose work they rip off. They've been doing this for years - through the PS2 scene, then PSP, and now PS3. They've ripped off our releases, and attempted to claim that we're inciting piracy (which is ironic, if you're familiar with the content of their site). Any attempt to reason with them and get them to show some sort of respect and common decency has fallen on deaf and arrogant ears.
Now though, they seem to be starting to realise that they're not immune to the attentions of the homebrew community at large, and not untouchable. They've offered to correctly credit releases, both retrospectively and in the future. Time will tell whether an amicable agreement can be made, and whether it will be honoured, but we can only hope.
Personally, I have very mixed feelings about all this. On the one hand, lots of innocent bystanders have had their property damaged, just so that one bad apple can be brought back into line. I would never condone an action that would hurt someone else like this, without extreme personal provocation. We always strive to make sure that Noobz releases are as safe as possible, and can be trusted completely. But on the other hand, this is the first time ever that the offending site has paid any attention to anyone. If their antisocial behaviour has been curbed, then maybe it has been worth it. I guess sometimes you just have to fight fire with fire. I only hope that next time, innocent bystanders can avoid becoming collateral damage.
They only plan on having it work for those PSP bricked by the hex edited m33 flaser, but we are also hoping that it will extend farthe then that, to say PSPs that bricked due to a bad dxar

In a story that just won't die, 'Transformers' director Michael Bay now says he over-reacted when he posted a widely-reported angry message on his web site last night, condemning Paramount for dropping its support of Blu-ray.
After huddling with Paramount brass today (and apparently watching the '300' HD DVD -- "it rocks," says Bay), the 'Transformers' director says he understands where the studio is coming from, and that after hearing Paramount's rationale for choosing HD DVD over Blu-ray, "I like what I heard."
Bay now dismisses his earlier comments as an ill-informed late night post, written in haste following dinner with three owners of Blu-ray players. "I drank the kool aid hook line and sinker," said Bay.
The full text of Bay's new post follows below:
"Last night at dinner I was having dinner with three blu-ray owners, they were pissed about no Transformers Blu-ray and I drank the kool aid hook line and sinker. So at 1:30 in the morning I posted - nothing good ever comes out of early am posts mind you - I over reacted. I heard where Paramount is coming from and the future of HD and players that will be close to the $200 mark which is the magic number. I like what I heard.
As a director, I'm all about people seeing films in the best quality possible, and I saw and heard firsthand people upset about a corporate decision.
So today I saw 300 on HD, it rocks!
So I think I might be back on to do Transformers 2!"
So basically he says he wanted to fit in with the crowd...when he was drunk.

And once again the rumors of 2K's BioShock coming out on the PlayStation 3 are swirling about on the internets, driven by this bit of code found in the PC demo's config.ini file what lists the PS3 as a console.
-- [Console]
Console (XBox360, PS3) specific settings
StreamingDynamicFloatingLimit:
If this is a positive number, then instead of using the fixed per-level
limits, the StreamingDynamic resource will use as much memory as is available as long as the total memory allocated by the game is less than
the specified number. In other words, StreamingDynamic will grow and
shrink to fit to the available memory instead of being locked to a fixed
budget StreamingDynamicFloatingLimit=500--
Well yes, that certainly does appear to be PS3 listed there after the comma. Intriguing, but I'm not sure it is worthy of the end all, be all announcements being made by sites like PlayStation Universe.
According to a config.ini log taken directly from the source of the BioShock PC demo, it appears once and for all this game is coming to PS3.
Wishful thinking goes a long way in making tiny facts add up to big truths. For all we know this could be be placeholder code left in from early in the game's development, before the exclusivity was even a factor. It could be overzealous notation on the part of a coder. It could very well mean the game is coming to PS3, but far from a definitive sign. Patience, my PlayStation purist friends. If it comes, it will come.

The HD wars are stronger than ever. In a statement clearly triggered by Paramount and Dreamworks' surprising move to HD DVD exclusivity, Fox and MGM are both pledging increased exclusive support for Blu-ray. Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, Live Free or Die Hard, and Fox's first-ever TV release on BD, Prison Break, have all been announced for release on Blu-ray.
These discs won't skimp on exclusive features. According to GameDaily BIZ, a "vast majority" of its movies will arrive on 50 GB dual-layer discs, with BD-J interactivity and Blu-ray exclusive HD bonus materials -- something that has been sorely lacking on most BDMV releases.
So why support Blu-ray over HD DVD? It's simple: better sales. "Given that Blu-ray has consistently outsold HD DVD all year, and this is the case for any titles released by any studio in both formats, we believe that the time is right for us to accelerate our activities and help convert the nearly 60 million high definition households worldwide into Blu-ray households," commented Mike Dunn, President Worldwide, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.

Ever wonder who's responsible for choosing the games on the PLAYSTATION Store? Rusty Buchert, senior producer at SCEA's Santa Monica Studio, is the man to talk to about original games on the PSN. He has a unique vision for the Store, where he wants to bring indie games, such as Everyday Shooter, to the masses.
An extract of the interview...
Can you explain to our readers what your position is at SCEA?
Hi all, my name is Rusty Buchert and I am a Sr. Producer at the Santa Monica Studios. My focus is purely on PSN titles for the PS3.
The PLAYSTATION Store has differentiated its offering from that of its competitors. We've seen a lot of unique experiences, such as fl0w, that simply aren't on the other platforms. How is Sony's focus on downloadable games different than the other guys?
My focus has been to find unique, fun experiences. We started searching for games like this from the outset and we were searching through the Indie Scene right out the gate. In general the Scene thinks outside the traditional development box. All to often people get indoctrinated into one general way of thinking about games in genre, design, and execution. You are not going to get anything new thinking like that. We were betting on the fact that people wanted something new and not a rehash of a rehash of a rehash.
Is there more or less risk involved in working with smaller games?
There is a lot less risk compared to the Blu Ray titles. There is a lot of upside to the risk being so much less. We get to experiment on a major portion of the games. We get to test out new game mechanics and design/experience ideas.
The full interview can be viewed over here

It appears that more and more PS3 systems are getting access to a new version of Folding@home for PS3. Version 1.2 contains some noteworthy additions, such as the ability to activate folding from your PSP through Remote Play, and a new Advanced Participation mode for those that fold more than eight hours a day (!). Here are the updates:
- Support for Remote Play for PSP - Turn on Remote Play and feel free to activate folding when you're on the go. Requires PSP firmware 3.50 or above.
- Visibility of Donor Locations on the Globe - See night and day users.
- Support for Additional Protein Simulations - PS3 now supports even more kinds of proteins!
- Advanced Participation Mode - Recommended for users that fold at least eight hours a day, this mode will allow users to tackle advanced calculations that take significantly longer than standard operations. A new energy graph will show the energy level of the protein over time.
- Screensaver Mode - After three minutes of controller inactivity, the screen will go blank, allowing users to save on power consumption.
- Link to Project Information - See what you're folding, and what cause it's going for.
- Protein Visualization Enhancements - Four new visual modes have been added:
Tapioca – Displays the protein as a smooth surface with improved shading and depth. (Replaces "ISO Surface" visualization from earlier versions.)
Caviar – Displays the protein as a smooth surface with defined edges.
Licorice – Displays only the protein's bonds.
Backbone – Emphasizes specific sections of the protein that are of the most scientific interest to researchers. Get folding! To join the PS3 Fanboy Folding@home team, add your PS3 to our group: 57793.

The PS3's ability to track the position of an object in 3D space using the new Eye Toy offers up more potential for motion-sensing gaming than the Wii Remote, Sony told CVG yesterday.
Eye Toy card battle game, Eye of Judgement, boasts some pretty impressive optical recognition technology that not only identifies a card (from a selection of hundreds) and summons the right monster, but it can track the movement of that card - including its distance from the camera and tilt orientation - and keep that monster positioned correctly on it.
Game director Kazuhito Miyaki told CVG: "All of the different Eye Toy games that we've made so far and the wide range [of gameplay] that we have delivered shows that the camera isn't the key device, it's what we do with it that's important." When asked how this compared to the motion tracking opportunities offered by the Wii Remote, he went on the say: "In Eye of Judgement it's all about summoning the creatures. With other games it'll be about creating a whole different dynamic so, in a way, you could say there is much more potential and ability in our technology."

How exciting! Stand alone battery release date and pricing. Sony has announced that its new PSP Slim battery pack (PSP-S110) will be available individually on September 20th for ¥4,500 (US $39). The actual portable launches that day as well. This new pack is design specifically for the new PSP (PSP-2000) and not the current model (PSP-1000). Oh, and yes, the previously announced Lithium-ion rechargeable battery will be packaged with the PSP Slim. This right here is for those who like to buy extras.

Konami's upcoming PSP title Silent Hill Origins has been leaked online, with a demo of the game available on various torrent sites.
But Karl Jeffery, CEO and founder of developer Climax, has told GamesIndustry.biz he is "100 per cent" certain the leak did not come from the UK studio.
"All I can say is that code did not leak from Climax – 100 per cent guaranteed," said Jeffery.
"The code that is out there is fingerprinted and was supplied solely to Konami for marketing purposes."
Silent Hill is one of Konami's strongest franchises and the embarrassing and potentially damaging incident happens just days before it is due to show off the game to the public at the Games Convention in Leipzig.
Websites checked by GamesIndustry.biz reveal that the demo was uploaded August 19, with one site seeing well over 1200 users downloading the code at the time of writing.
"At Climax we have strong and proven security procedures that protect all of our code, assets and builds," added Jeffery.
"We have developed over 100 titles in 20 years in business and have never had a leak or theft from inside the company."
The game is due for an official release later this year. Konami had not responded to requests for comment at the time of writing.

Madcupid posted this release into the Neoflash Coding Contest:
Shooter game by Madcupid
and The DevInside Team (Dead Angel and RichardV)
Ok, so i've had little or no time at all to work on games and stuff but i had some requests which were to make a translation of the game into a couple of languages so i decided to make it a multi-language game. First reason, to please the user and second, for me to know exactly what to do the next time: so here it is!!!
Change log in T.O.W. v4.0:
*Game now is Multi-Language(English, Portuguese, Spanish and
French)(still working on Spanish and French)
*Changed a lot of codes and cleaned up some too.
*Fixed more reported bugs!
for those who missed the other versions this is what's in the
game:
*Diagonal Scrolling (we though it'd be different homebrew wise)
*Story (interesting in our opinion)
*14 Levels (meaning 14 different backgrounds)
*1 Recovery Level (where you have a chance to go back to the game
if all lives were lost)
*19 different types of enemies( maybe more coming)
*Highscore/reset Highscores
*Save/load/delete files (invented a new code for that, i think)
*Extra lives every 25000 points
*Extra special(bomb) every 15000 points
*Final grade from "F" to "A+++" (total of 15)
*Take a screenshot of highscore screen, gameplay(any level) and
final results screen(total kills, final score, final grade and
more)
-- the game looks like this
--menu
STORY MODE
NEW GAME
LOAD GAME (3 slots)
TRAINING MODE
CHOOSE A LEVEL ( practice to get better)
OPTIONS
MANAGE HIGHSCORES ( reset highscores [8])
MANAGE FILES (delete saved games)
