Sega Of America president and COO Simon Jeffrey has told MCV that he expects Sony will enjoy significant sales of PS2 hardware for “two to three years at least”.
In a wider interview with MCV, Jeffrey pledged Sega’s long-term support for the console, predicting that it would have “longer legs than any [console in any] previous generation”.
He told MCV: “We believe that the PS2 will be around for quite some time,” he says.
“This generation of hardware will have longer legs than any previous generation, and that’s definitely healthy for the industry.
“We expect Sony to price manage the PS2’s shelf life for another two or three years at least. PS2 high profile titles, especially ‘wide market’ and licensed titles, will absolutely be part of the Sega portfolio going forwards.”

CVG has learnt from several sources that PS3 is about to step up to the console war in a big way.
Speaking off the record (which means we can't name names), we've been told by sources in both the publishing and retail sectors that PS3 is on the verge of receiving a massive price cut - to £299.
But this won't be for the 60GB system that's currently on the shelves. It'll be a stripped down version, which Sky News reports will ship without backwards compatibility or USB ports. How you'll sync your controllers without them, we don't know.
Sony has been tipped to make an announcement regarding the stripped-down PS3 this week - right on time to combat Microsoft's massive Halo 3 launch.
We'll let you know if SCEE has anything to say.

THQ has officially de-cloaked gangster sequel Saints Row 2.
It's due on PS3 and 360 in 2008, and brings with it significant improvements on the 2006 free-roaming original.
Chief among these are co-operative online gang-banging for you and a chum, plus lots more customisation options like gender, age, voice, crib and gang bits and bobs.
The world has also swollen to include lots more locations, and you will be able to enjoy riding around in things like boats, helicopters, planes and the all important m070rb1k3s. We love them, the way they have two wheels and go very fast. Ooh, pretty motorbikes.
Saints Row 2 will also look better thanks to a beefed up engine from developer Volition, with the environments looking not too dissimilar to Crackdown's. You should find there's much more depth of choice across the board, too, intertwined into a much darker and more sinister storyline - albeit underpinned with a sense of humour.
"The team at Volition is leveraging invaluable experience gained on Saints Row to build Saints Row 2 into a game that sets the standard for combat, player freedom, customization, vehicle game-play, team-based co-op and the most compelling online open world experience to date," boasted Scott Guthrie, marketing boss at THQ.
Saints Row was released in 2006 and was surprisingly good - especially given it was Volition's first open-world effort, as you can see for yourself in our review.
However, it launched in a period without any real competition, and filled a GTA-style gap for many of us. Next year, of course, it will go head-to-head with the mega franchise itself.

Media Molecule's LittleBigPlanet could be a driving force in improving PlayStation 3 sales early next year, according to Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter.
Speaking exclusively to GamesIndustry.biz from the Tokyo Game Show, Pachter said the highly-anticipated game from the makers of Rag Doll Kung Fu should appeal to a family audience - something that Sony and rival Microsoft have so far failed to capture with their next-generation machines.
"After seeing LittleBigPlanet at TGS, I believe it could be a console mover," commented Pachter.
"The game is really innovative, and I think it adds a family element that is so far missing from both the Xbox 360 and the PS3. If they can accompany that game's launch with a price cut (or a lower priced SKU), I think we'll see a spike in sales," he added.
Although Sony stated there are no immediate plans for a price cut of the PlayStation 3 at last week's event, Pachter believes the company needs to drop the RRP of the console if it's to meet its 11 million shipment targets by March 2008.
"If Sony doesn't cut price at all during its fiscal year, they will probably miss their 11 million shipment target," he said. "However, a price cut early in 2008 should spark sales, and their line-up of LittleBigPlanet, Gran Turismo 5, Metal Gear Solid 4 and Grand Theft Auto 4 should help move consoles."
"If they don't cut price, they'll probably sell through around 7 million for the fiscal year, and will probably ship no more than 8 - 9 million," he added.
Sony unveiled LittleBigPlanet earlier this year at the Game Developers Conference and it has quickly become one of the PS3's most anticipated titles, along with the 3D social networking service Home and the latest iteration of SingStar.

Crazy C just released a new patch and binary of PSP DOSBox. He said:
I've put up a new patch and binary that hopefully will fix your problem with switching modes. Also, you can now mount your memory stick as an hdd image to work around the psp fat driver limitation. Be very careful! For now don't try it with a memory stick who's contents you care about! Try not to remove the memory stick without unmounting it first. Do not insert another memory stick without unmounting the previous one! Do not mount the memory stick as an image and as an regular mount at the same time as there is a good chance you will corrupt it! Mount it using "imgmount msstor0: -t hdd -fs fat -size ". Win311 works with this if you comment out the blockdev and pagefile devices in system.ini.

The PSP Scene has for me been such an exciting scene from the moment the PSP was announced to the release of the console to Hello World to the Jap Coders to Eloaders and Custom Firmwares and the many great things in between.
But when the PSP Scene got big the sites who used to cover the Gamecube/PS2 Scenes jumped over to the PSP Scene to join in the fun.
Sadly shortly after a webmaster of a site that begins with M contacted several coders at DCEmu to jump ship to his forums and even offered money just so he could say it was an exclusive release. Needless to say that the webmaster of M wasnt the only one, other sites with Money behind them did the same but not as blatent as this person.
This buying off of coders or shall we say a very nice donation just for exclusives is the sad way for the PSP Scene at the moment. I personally think coders deserve all they get although dirty tactics are not needed. Im sure Brakken of tehskeen could guess who im pointing a finger at.
Im not going to name names because it would be easy for those to cover it up but regardless of what they have released the scene will be better without them. Sites who do these actions will not be linked to from DCEmu and banned permanently.

Team M33... I mean The God, Dark Alex is back!! Or both!? And released the firmware 3.71 M33!
Changelog:
Changes in 3.71 M33
- Now uses 3.71
- VSH Menu is not longer launched using HOME key, but using SELECT now. This is to not interfere with the XMB function of home, which is now more useful in this firmware.
- PSP Slim: umdcache was allocating memory even when homebrew was launched, wasting memory that homebrew programs may want to use. Now umdcache module is stopped before it can allocate any memory, only in the case homebrew is launched.
Also, memory is unprotected for user memory usage by M33 core (only when homebrew is launched). Developer, for a sample of how to use the extra memory, see the extra ram sample of the M33 SDK.
- Both version boot now from 3.XX ipl, and are independent of 1.50.
The main installer will not install 1.50 kernel anymore. A 1.50 kernel addon for 3.71 M33 that will install inside 3.71 M33 will be released in a few days (for fat only)
Note: due to some changes in kernel nids by Sony, you can expect a lot of kernel plugins not working anymore. Programmers: refer to the SDK readme for details.
Installation instructions:
First method for both psp, the prefered when possible:
Requeriments: a fat psp slim with 3.52 M33-3 or 3.52 M33-4. Previous versions of M33 won't work, due to a bug that affects them and OE; or a psp slim with 3.60 M33.
- Copy the UPDATE directory into /PSP/GAME/UPDATE and copy the EBOOT.PBP of the 3.71 Sony updater there but with name "371.PBP". Note: the program will not even show if you copy it to a different folder than that.
- If you are in the fat psp, make sure you have configured the psp to run the game folder in the 3.XX kernel.
- Execute the program, it requires 78% of battery. If you have idstorage corrupted due to a downgrader, the program will ask you to correct it automatically so the update can continue.
- Press X, and the Sony updater will begin. Sit and enjoy while Sony code installs 3.71 M33
- When finished, the updater will ask you to reboot (pressing X or O). DO IT. Do not skip this step shutting down the psp by yourself, or you'll end with a brick.
- You should be now in 3.71 M33.
Great news, huh?

Just yesterday Team M33 announced that they are to take a short break before releasing their latest custom firmware to teach lamers how to respect developers. Archilolo has posted a new version of his pong game for the PSP, heres whats new:
version 0.2 Improvement of the code, additions of step badly of elements.
* operational score
* progressive acceleration of the ball
* correction of bugs (that made odd when I do not say it for someone else; I did not realize to what a not reading again and to improve a code, was this simple, could be testing! )
* improvement of the management of the collisions: they is more precise from now on, and that adapts to all the sizes of sprite (as well for the rackets as for the ball)… but in fact, I still have problems with the racket of left!
* rotation of the ball: a small funny effect which obliged me to re-examine all the tests of collision!
* possibility of deforming the ball (with the analogical stick). Attention, that tends to make plant the play! that does not change anything with the way in which one plays; therefore, I think that I will transfer it in the long term; but while waiting, I find that funny
* new graphics; and especially, introduction of the innénarable

During his Tokyo Games Show keynote, Sony Computer Entertainment president, Kaz Hirai, said that the company plans to target emerging markets with the PS2.
Hirai demonstrated how the PS2 has outsold the PSOne (it's now sold 120 million units worldwide) and emphasised the fact that it's now an easier platform to develop for than the PS3.
Hirai told the audience:
"I've been telling people we have to come back to our basics at SCE so we can provide a lot more interesting games and entertainment opportunities. This has become the most important priority. I think with the PS3 we took a very important first step to move into the future of PlayStation, but... I would like to share some important ideas on how to expand our PS business."
Giving the PS2 a renewed focus is an unconventional move, with platform holders typically de-emphasising previous generation hardware once a newer model has come along. Whether the move is an attempt to bolster profits in the face of an under-performing PS3 or a bold new marketing direction that hardware companies should have been following all along remains to be seen.
Hirai also took the opportunity provided by his keynote to announce rumble for the PS3, showcase the PSP's remote play functionality and reveal that Home has been delayed.

Sega announced yesterday that they will bring Yakuza 2 to North America sometime in 2008. The recent Japanese announcement of Yakuza 3 for PS3 left many outside Japan wondering if there even was a second game, and if so why they had not heard of it.
Yakuza 2 is a direct sequel to the first game, putting players back in control of Kiryu Kazuma. Another assassination and gang war provides the backdrop for more face-smashin' good times in Yakuza 2.
After Yakuza 2 comes out, let's just hope we can get Yakuza 3 before the Playstation 5.

Be3f one of our regulars posted this to help you get more Homebrew apps/games etc working on PSP Slim:
I've found a way how to run more 1.XX core homebrews on PSP Slim with 3.60 m33 custom fw and save some space on Memory Stick: the solution is to convert your EBOOT.PBP (and all your homebrew data) into ISO/CSO format. You'll need the pbp2iso application and UMDGen
Read the Manual inside the pbp2iso archive:
pbp2iso Manual wrote:
What to do:
• First make sure you have the 1 or 2 PBPs for the program you wish to convert.
• Now open pbp2iso.exe and follow the instructions in that program.
• Navigate to the folder where pbp2iso.exe is.
• If there are any extra files in your PBPs folder, copy them to <pbp2iso folder>\geniso\PSP_GAME\SYSDIR
• Open UMDGen, open the geniso folder in the pbp2iso folder, drag in the PSP_GAME folder and UMD_DATA.BIN file, and save the iso.
• Now delete the geniso folder to clear it for future conversions.
Notes:
• Any app that uses a config file will be broken unless reprogrammed to use the memory stick specifically (aka not a relative path)
• If converting emulators, you will need to add your ROMs to the iso image as well as the emulator, since most emulators do not have drive swapping functions, and they will start in disc0 drive.
• Credit to pspmad for the method and PARAM.SFO/UMD_DATA.BIN files used.
• Any apps that try to access set paths (aka paths in their PSP/GAME/name folder) will be broken, unless it is not part of the game folder and you set it up normally on the memory stick (set paths on memory stick, game in iso)
• To end pbp2iso.exe before iso creation is done, cancel a file select dialog.
While iso is a single file, transfering it to memory stick will also be much faster, then coping hundreds of small files; you may also compress it into CSO using UMDGen to same some extra megs on MS But there is a limit: CSO/ISO is read only by 3.60 m33 built-in fw loader, so you can't change (save changes in the config file - some changes in some progs may be done in RAM) any settings in your homebrew, if it uses the config file inside the Game folder (PSP/GAME/Homebrew_Folder), but not in the special folder (in the root of the MS for example).
E.g. Serious Dungeons v0.5 - the 1.00 fw homebrew - doesn't run from 3.60 m33 XMB (but runs under eLoader 1.000!), but it will run from XMB if you compile it into CSO (the only limit for CSO - you won't be able to change the config)...
