SCEE has been recognised by the European Imaging and Sound Association, with the PS3 receiving an award for home entertainment.
"To receive an EISA Award is a very high honor in the electronics industry and therefore to receive one for a product that is usually thought of as simply a games machine, truly highlights the versatility and quality of PS3," said SCEE president David Reeves.
"We firmly believe that PlayStation 3 has the capabilities to sit at the heart of the living room and very much belongs there. This award highlights that claim."
The EISA has a membership comprised of nearly 50 audio, mobile electronics, video, and photo magazines spread throughout 19 countries. A judging panel consisting of journalists and independent technical experts selected the award winners.

Via Gamefaqs.
A GameFAQs user named Kudaku has found a secret cinematic which is shown in the new game Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII if you beat it twice. The video shows the same Final Fantasy VII intro which was shown a couple of years ago at E3, and at the end says "to be continued in Final Fantasy VII". Square Enix has denied a remake earlier, but has also said it might happen. So whether or not to trust this easter egg is uncertain, and it's not even known if it will be for the PSP or the PS3. We'll just have to wait for an official statement from the company.
Attached is a zip file with 14 screenshots.
What are your thoughts?

hurtween has found a way of applying custom themes on firmware 3.60 M33 on PSP Slim. Here is the full post (slightly modified):
Custom themes ARE possible on PSP Slim with 3.60 M33, and it's easy...
Notice the TV icon, and Connected Display Settings icon, which I have yet to recolour, and also the firmware version.
Now we just need 1.50 brew to work...
EDIT: This is not a fake! All you need to get this working yourself, are the same tools that have already been provided by the community.
YOU WILL NEED
- A PSP capable of running 1.50 homebrew
- Your Slim PSP
- RCO Editor 14d
- Resurssiklunssi v0.3
- CXMB v2.4
...Seriously, all you need to do is load up CXMB through seplugins.
But for it to work without crashing, you will need converted 3.60 rco's.
1. Access your Slims's Flash0.
(If you can only see 3 folders in there you will need to unhide system operating files from the view tab.)
go to f0:/vsh/resource, locate all the rco's and save them to your desktop.
2. Put all the RCO's that you want to change into the RCO folder in the root of your memory stick and convert them using Resurssiklunssi
You will need a sysmem.prx from 2.70 f.w. and a 1.50 homebrew capable PSP to use this tool.
Quoted from Resurssiklunssi Readme "Get DECRYPTED and UNCOMPRESSED SYSMEM.PRX from 2.70... ...firmware and place it to the rco-folder.
Use psardumper/prxdecrypter to obtain that file." Also make sure there is a 'done' folder in the rco folder or the program will not work.
- 2.70 EBOOT
- PSP Brew
- PSAR Dumper
- PRX Decrypter
3. Once they are converted all you need to do is open them with RCO Editor and insert the graphics. You now have Slim PSP compatable RCO's.
4. You cannot flash these files because Sony have added some kind of protection which makes putting resource files on Flash0 not work like it used to.
5. Just save your resource files to ms0:/CXMB/vsh/resource on your memory stick and enable the plugin through the recovery menu.
NOTE: you cannot load prx's yet, untill they get decrypted, and custom fonts will crash the browser.
You can however load the reboot_plugin.prx, and the eboot_launcher_plugin.prx out of the CXMB/vsh/module folder.
Just make sure to name them to the corrosponding icon you want them to launch from.
..Still amazing that this plugin works properly on the Slim.
I hope you all enjoy.
Credit to Poison for making this awesome plugin!

Via jas0nuk.
jas0onuk has developed and released a new version of his useful prxdecrypter. Here's the original post:
prxdecrypter (psardumper mod to decrypt PRX files and firmware resources)
v1.6
CHANGELOG:
1.5b --> 1.6
- Now comes with a HEN compatible EBOOT which doesnt seem to work properly (partially broken on 3.xx kernel on the fat PSP,
` completely broken on 3.60 M33 due to new hardware)
- Added 6 more key sets (1.XX, 2.00-2.50, 2.60-2.71, 2.80, 3.00 and 3.10+ gameshare keys)
- Now press TRIANGLE rather than HOME to exit
- Fixed 2.7X demo decryption (wrong key)
- Removed 5 useless keys
- Now uses the entire buffer - previously, files over 4mb would fail
- Added second layer of descrambling to a few files - this would have produced messed up output if you tried in the old version
- Waiting for the 3.60 and 3.70 keys... I'll add them as soon as I have them.

New homebrew application from homebrew developer placo23. Here's the original post:
Well I was just playing around with my PSP and found that I'm always in need of a homebrew to tell me what's the current time in the country I'm calling too.
It's always painful to know this kind of stuff when you have things like daylight saving times and stuff, so I decided to create a HomeBrew that tells me this.
I'll soon be adding this HomeBrew to a big application I'm developing.
It's pretty self explanatory and I guess it might be usefull for some people like me, that need to "travel between time zones" as I do.
Here's a screenshot of it.
Hopefully it will help some people out there.
I'd be hapy to receive some feedback.
Cheers

The latest PSP firmware, v3.71, is available right now via the network update command from your XMB.
So far internet reports tell us that the update does ... well, not a lot really. Despite Sony's talk of "new, user-requested features", there doesn't seem to be any evidence of any additional functionality at all.
Needless to say, don't upgrade if you want to keep all your homebrew.

Godzilla: Unleashed, a fighting game starring the Japanese monster and many of his monsteriffic co-stars previously announced for the Wii, DS and PSP is also coming to the PS2 this fall.
Developed by Pipeworks, Godzilla: Unleashed will feature more than twenty monsters from the Godzilla film oeuvre along with new monsters designed especially for the game. The PS2 version will also include exclusive monsters not found in the Wii version.
“Bringing Godzilla: Unleashed to the vast PlayStation 2 audience as well as the massive and growing Wii and DS fanbase is another feather in the cap of Atari’s growing publishing line up,” said Mathias Hautefort, Executive Vice President of publishing and production, Atari. “The Godzilla license is a global phenomenon and Atari has a successful history of putting the player in control of everyone’s favourite monster. This most recent collaboration with independent studio Pipeworks will result in yet another must-have monster romp.”
While Atari has added another platform to the Godzilla: Unleashed release schedule, it appears the PSP version has become a victim of the monster's rampage. It was not mentioned in today's news and, in fact, Atari confirmed plans for "a simultaneous autumn 2007 release on all three platforms" (referring to the Wii, DS and PS2 versions). That's basically the kiss of cancellation in the video game world.

Before i go sleep i like to see whats coming soon for consoles and lo and behold Play Asia are now taking preorders on the Max Power Tool
features
Special TOOL version of our PSP battery works in exactly the same way as a standard SONY PSP battery but has the ability to put your PSP into service mode for custom firmware use.
TOOL functionality is hard-coded into the battery.
Same 1800mAh Lithium Polymer cell as our standard battery.
Its retailing at $25(£12) but heres the curious thing, theres no mention of it coming with a Mem Card which you need for the Pandora Downgrader/Unbricker. Now this comes from Datel and its likely its using the Pandora Code or maybe was sold to them pre pandora.
What i will say is that for PSP Owners who dont already have a Homebrew PSP or easily get hold of one this is a way in to Homebrew or unbricking.

Sony Ericsson is considering tapping into Sony's Play-Station and Bravia television brands to create new ranges of high-end handsets.
"Its an area of possible future activity," said Miles Flint, president of the Swedish-Japanese handset market.
The company, which is50 per cent owned by Sony, is already producing a Bravia-branded handset with mobile television capability in Japan, with operator NTT DoCoMo.
A PlayStation phone was also a possibility, said Mr Flint, although he stressed the technology behind such a device was still some way from being perfected.
"We need to make sure that it is a credible phone, and be sure we are justified in putting that identity on it," said Mr Flint, who will step down as president in November.
Sony Ericsson has successfully used Sony's Walkman music brand and CyberShot camera brand to create handsets, favoured by young, aspirational consumers.
The strategy has helped the company more than double margins in the last three years, going from number five to number four in terms of global market share of handsets.
It is under pressure to update its portfolio in the face of new products from Appleand Nokia.

EA has confirmed that the demo for FIFA 08 will go live on 360 and PS3 tomorrow.
It'll give you a chance to try out what the publisher is calling its most coherent football game to date. There's the new skill system to try out, the opportunity to play as just one member of the team and not mess it up, plus the usual better graphics, physics, and all that malarkey.
EA is also offering much more in the way of online support this time around. Following a post-release update you'll be able to play five against five, for instance, where you each control your player of choice on either side. The ultimate goal is to have 11 versus 11, although we're not sure who would really want to be centre-back or the goalie.
Interactive Leagues are back, too, so you and your chums can help your favourite team to victory, plus lots of other knick knacks. Sprint your way over to our first impressions of FIFA 08 for a closer look.
FIFA 08 is coming out on PC, PS3, 360, PS2, PSP, Wii and DS on 28th September. Look out for our thoughts soon.

Valledalle from the German PSP community PSPSource.de released the homebrew game "PSP Tower Defense", which is a clone of the popular game Tower Defense. This isn't the PSP Tower Defense we have seen at the NeoFlash coding competition, this Tower Defense was an entry for the PSPSource Summer Coding Competition 2007.
The game is coded in LUA and it contains many features the real Tower Defense has, like different types of enemys, different towers and tower upgrades. And don't worry, the game is in English. You can find more information about the controls in the game menu.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue's price is still to be decided, Sony said today, following a report on Dutch website Fok! which claimed the Blu-Ray edition would cost EUR 45.
In addition, Sony was also unable to narrow a date down for Polyphony's eagerly awaited PS3 sequel. Current expectations are that both the PSN and Blu-Ray versions will be available before the end of 2007.
GT5 Prologue is a demo version of what to expect when the full Gran Turismo 5 is released. It will feature more than 40 (incredibly shiny) cars, and tracks including the Eiger Nordwand course, the London City Track, and Suzuka. You can either race these the right way around, reverse them, or try alternative routes.
But perhaps the most exciting feature will be the ability to face-off against up to 15 others over the PlayStation Network, complete with global online rankings.

Sony Europe has told us this morning that the Blast Factor: Advanced Research add-on will be available sometime in October - not 20th September as ThreeSpeech suggests.
The expansion will revamp the visuals and audio of the PlayStation Network game, as well as add new bosses, enemies, specimens and special powers. There will be a monthly online high score table, too, and a practice mode so you won't look silly when your friends come round and watch.
Advanced Research was released in August in the US for USD 4.99. But unfortunately there's no word on what it will cost here.
The original Blast Factor game appeared here earlier this year, and impressed us with its tactical blast-'em-up action. Hopefully these new additions can turn it into a solid and positive recommendation.

Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction will be released in the US on 23rd October and in Europe this November, Insomniac's Ryan Schneider told Eurogamer today.
Separately, the game's product manager confirmed that a demo of the game will be released on PlayStation Network in the US and Europe on 4th October.
Although it's about the 78th game in the series, Tools of Destruction is something of an origins tale, which sees the popular PS2 heroes taking over Emperor Percival Tachyon's ship and journeying around the galaxy for their first PS3 adventure.
We'll be bringing you impressions of the latest builds and more details from the development team in the Ratchet & Clank Future.
