News/release from Maxthe best
Hi,
I'd like to present you my first C coded homebrew for PSP (used to dev in lua until I finally figured out how to install cygwin)
It allows you to protect your PSP with a password.
To install it, run the PBP inclued with your PSP (to set the password) and then put the prx (password.prx) in ms:0/seplugins and activate it via the recovery menu...
And now it will ask you a password at each XMB boot.
You can change the password with launching the EBOOT.PBP which you ran to install the pass...

Konami may be looking to bring the Climax-developed prequel Silent Hill Origins to a wider audience next year with a PlayStation 2 port of the game. Released for the PSP worldwide this quarter, it now appears that Konami will have a PS2 version of the game ready for March of 2008. A fact sheet for the port was passed on to us this morning, courtesy of one of our tipsters, indicating that Climax would be responsible for the second release of the handheld horror title.
The official Climax site does mention that the group is working on a second unannounced project for Konami, but reps for the publisher have not yet responded to our request for confirmation that Silent Hill Origins for the PlayStation 2 is the unnamed title. If true, I certainly hope that Climax is giving the game a bit of a visual upgrade for those who passed on the on-the-go frightfest.

Friends,
Duke 3D-PSP build 98 is now ready for play. There are two changes to this build. The first one is what forum users have been requesting the most.... music support.
The game will now play the original midi soundtrack to duke3d, no patching is necessary this time. You do, however, need the actual gravis ultrasound sound patches. They are free, and legal, though. You can get them from http://www.libsdl.org/projects/SDL_m...imidity.tar.gz
The installation information is included in the readme.
Another very welcome change to the build is the implementation of a custom eboot icon, custom eboot background, and atrac3 sound submitted by the talented dcemu forum-goer NyghtcrawleR. Thanks man, it looks and sounds pretty slick. No more do we have to look at that goofy "Doom PSP" icon.
As always, if you have any questions or comments... or suggestions, pm, email, or icq me.

News/release from Tommydanger
Hi
Since everyone is keen about the psp inbuilt dialogs you see in psp games and on how to access them within homebrew software I wrote a small library which enables you to trigger
the following dialogs with just one function
Messagedialog
Errordialog
Onscreenkeyboard
It's based on the pspsdk examples but with the overhead cut off, and integrated in a small library
Included is a small sample, it's really straight forwarded
All you have to do is link this library and set up your gu functions
The library itself doesn't provide a gu setup function as every dev prefers his own and it's improper coding style to have 2 setups
Though you can use the one used in the sample :P
Tested on 3.52M33-4
Next version will feature load/save dialogs

News/release from ccpspita
New update on the part of ccpspita of MyPSP Robotics, a homebrew that will be part of a larger project of robotics on PSP.
The homebrew at the time allows us to do many things, such as an audio / video between psp via VVoIP, a database OpenMind (ie a database that would allow voice communication between 2 PSP or even between a human and a PSP) and many other features. With this version is added support for the libraries Intel OpenCV (For a future vision and image recognition).

As if the idea of racing motorcycles and ATVs through mud-covered off-road tracks on the PSP version of MX Vs. ATV Untamed wasn't heavenly enough, THQ announced details today for the exclusive Milestone system Sony's handheld will be seeing.
As you progress through World Tour mode -- the career section of MX Vs. ATV Untamed -- you'll be unlocking additional locations for you to get your race on, but to enhance the experience, THQ and Tantalus have added incentives called Milestones. The awards will reward players for achieving specific goals in the game and unlock additional content.
However, the Milestones won't be limited to World Tour mode. The stats, information and challenges will cover everything from multiplayer to free ride and beyond. Your progress towards the awards can be tracked from the game's Profile screen.

New York Mets shortstop Jose Reyes will be the cover athlete for Major League Baseball 2K8, the latest installment in 2K Sports' franchise.
Jose Reyes, best known for base-stealing, is also the first player in baseball history to have more than 63 steals, 120 runs, 192 hits, and 19 homers in a single season. Reyes led the Major League in 2006 with 17 triples and 64 stolen bases and set a new Mets club record with 104 hits at Shea Stadium.
"This is the first time I have ever been on the cover of a video game and it is very exciting to be a part of the best video game out there," said Reyes in a 2K press release.
MLB 2K8 will be available in spring 2008 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2 PlayStation Portable system, and the Nintendo Wii.

It seems as though someone at Sega has taken note of the fact that the top two PSP games in Japan are Monster Hunter Portable and its sequel. This week's Famitsu contains first word on a PSP version of that other game where you team up with multiple players and head out on quests.
Sega will be bringing Phantasy Star Universe to the PSP, the magazine reports. Titled Phantasy Star Portable (PSP for short), the game is based off PSU but includes the new elements and bosses from the recently released Ambition of Illuminus expansion along with a new story and a few new characters.
On top of the story mode, the game will, of course, include multiplayer support. Like Monster Hunter, up to four players will be able to team up for quests. Multiplayer functionality will be ad-hoc, meaning you'll have to be in the vicinity of your fellow players in order to play together.
Developed by Alfa System, PSP for the PSP will be released to Japan in 2008.

Square Enix has just confirmed that Dissidia Final Fantasy will be playable at Jump Festa 2008 in two weeks time and a special gift awaits those who check it out. The game to celebrate Final Fantasy 20th anniversary has been pretty quiet since its announcement back in May, missing it’s planned release for this year at the same time. The announcement was made at the game’s official website and the company’s Jump Festa 2008 page.

Midway has announced that both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 owners can expect to download a map pack for John Woo's Stranglehold in the near future. Providing they bought Stranglehold and want some downloadable content in any event.
The map pack, announced overnight, "will be available soon in North America via the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live" in Midway's words. A European release in a similar timeframe seems very likely. We tried to get hold of Midway UK this morning to confirm that, and see whether it's coming to PC as well, but we've yet to hear back.
The pack consists of ten new multiplayer maps (including "Kowloon Market", "Wong's Estate Grounds" and "Rooftops of Chicago") and 21 new multiplayer character skins. Xbox 360 owners can also look forward to ten new unlockable Achievements worth a total of 250 gamerpoints.
Stranglehold is an Unreal Engine 3-powered third-person shooter that follows in the narrative footsteps of classic John Woo/Chow Yun Fat action film Hard Boiled, and sees Inspector Tequila diving, sliding and generally exploding his slow-motion way around detail-packed environments in an attempt to either solve whatever crime it is he's up against or kill everyone involved - whichever comes first.
We really liked it, with Kristan remarking that it "might well be the most direct, straightforward action game you've played in years". The multiplayer wasn't one of his favourite elements, but perhaps that will change with the advent of the new map pack. Find out when it appears on Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Network soon.
