The US retail version of Unreal Tournament III (for PS3) is without the much-hyped PC mod support due to "legal/release issues", Epic programmer Josh Adams has admitted.
Much noise was made about the PS3 being an open development, allowing for UT III to support PC mods on the console. Yet the final game has sneakily turned up without its mod support features, because they weren't ready on time.
"The PS3 mod tools aren't quite ready yet," confessed Adams, after baffled gamers tried their best to apply PC mods to the PS3 game. "We are working through some final legal/release issues."

Konami has broken down in front of everyone and confessed to how the DS and PSP versions of Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 work and when they're out.
According to the Japanese publisher, people like you will be able to buy both of them in Q1 2008, with PS3, 360, PS2 and PC versions already on the market.
The PSP version is said to have "a lot in common" with the PS2 version, including tournaments and leagues and a new World Tour mode "wherein users are set a series of challenges as they tour the globe".
A full Edit mode is in there, and the data-sharing element now allows you to swap Master League, League, World Tour and Cup Mode data between the PSP and PS2 versions so players can "continue building their team while away from their home system".
Meanwhile, the DS version has Exhibition, Penalty Shoot-Out and Konami Cup, a World Tour variant and a network mode for four-player multiplayer games.
You can also swap players with friends and collect coins to buy the world's best players perhaps like Fernando "Liverpool have their very own Thierry Henry" Torres.
So look out for those in Q1.

WipEout Pulse on PSP is flipping brilliant - as this review explains - and Sony will be letting PSP owner sample the goods with a demo due to launch tomorrow.
The demo will appear on the new PS Store for PC (not the Store on your PS3), free to download, which you will then need to transfer to your PSP to play.
The demo will let you race around one track, Moa Therma White, in the classic Feisar ship, backed by pumping tunes from artist Kraftwerk.
The full game goes on sale in UK on Friday.

Evolution Studios has pumped yet more free downloadable content into MotorStorm in the form of mirrored racetracks, a couple of new songs and some other tweaks.
Perhaps most practically appealing (and to be fair quite long overdue) is the 2D car-selection screen, which will finally reduce the strain of waiting for the 3D cars to rumble up onto the little selection pedestal before each race.
And while the mirrored tracks are for online multiplayer only, that's half the fun of playing MotorStorm anyway, so deal with it! Or, if you don't buy that, hopefully they will be made available offline too.
The 3.1 patch (for it is he/she/it) also introduces a new proximity meter for MotorStorm mode, and the names of the two additional songs are Devil's Crossing by Elite Force and Beat The Devil by Jiffster.
MotorStorm certainly hasn't been suffering from a dearth of downloads since its launch alongside the PS3 in late March; as you can see from our gamepage, Evo has been pumping premium and free downloadable updates into its oily racing mitts the whole time.
The game isn't bad either - one of the PS3's best in fact, and well worth revisiting if you've not tried out any of the sprawl of downloads thrown up since you last played it.

Rock Band developer Harmonix is claiming that a patch designed to allow the use of PS3 Guitar Hero controllers is being blocked by Activision.
When Harmonix announced the development of Rock Band, it said it would work to allow the game to support the guitar peripheral released for Guitar Hero - the Activision-published series that Harmonix originally developed for Red Octane.
However, when Rock Band was released, PS3 owners were unable to use the Les Paul guitar controller included with Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. Harmonix said that it had created a software patch to solve the problem, but now that patch is being blocked.
"The compatibility patch was submitted, approved and had been scheduled for release by Sony on Tuesday, December 4," Harmonix said in a statement.
"Unfortunately, Activision objected to the release of the compatibility patch. The patch remains with Sony, but we have been told that it will unfortunately not be released due to Activision's continued objection."
Harmonix went on to say that it hoped Activision would allow the use of Rock Band controllers with Guitar Hero III, and will provide any required support in order for them to do so.
Xbox 360 owners have no such compatibility issues and are able to use their Guitar Hero III controllers with Rock Band.
Neither Activision nor Red Octane had responded to a request for comment by the time we published this story.

Via DivX
Today I got an email from DivX
The monthly email.
The title was "DivX Connected, PS3 and Sansa TakeTV"
Usually I don't really read these but when I saw PS3 I took a look. There it was:
"DivX, Coming to a Gaming Console Near You
You may have heard the news about PlayStation 3 support for DivX video. Well, pop the bubbly because it's true. We have indeed made a deal with Sony to add DivX video playback to their popular PS3 gaming console."
I think this great as i often download amazing quality DivX clips and prefer it to mp4. The widely used format will be a one up on the Xbox360. PS3 users - gloat away.

It seems Dark_AleX never sleeps. Right on the heels of 3.71 M33-4 comes a small bugfix release for popsloader. Here's the info from the readme.
This is just a fix for a minor bug. When selecting a firmware for a multidisc game, the setting was being remembered for any other multidisc game too. Fixed.

Sony Corporation's CEO, Howard Stringer, has told reporters in Tokyo that the company is still on course to post a 5 per cent operating profit in its fiscal year, which ends in March.
But crucially the company's electronics sales haven't been affected but the "dodgy" economic slowdown in the US, and that the company had no plans to sell off any of its entertainment subsidiaries.

News/release from Auraomega
I made this a while back, I've removed the annoyance of the Sony startup screen everytime you enter the XMB, and I've also fixed a few bugs in the code.
Tested on 3.52M33-4 but should work on all version.
Instructions are in the readme, and example lock.lock and config.lock files are also included.
Hopefully in a future update I'll remove the 2 main bugs (CXMB and password upon exiting a game).
Any questions, just ask

News/release from Dragonknight
Hallöle I am new here ^ ^
I was with my friend once developed a small homebrew and I thought to myself that I just imagine it wants. As the name might have said is a DJ booth. This can play different sounds and pretend as if a DJ. I have the DJ booth Paint painted by the sounds separately inserted. We have the idea of the Homebrewgame VDrums abgeguckt (which explains the "V" in the name)
This forum seems to me the right to be concerned about Homebrews present. Otherwise, please delete, or move. Oh, if you want to try it, I have read the file as an attachment mitgepostet

As PlayStation 3 owners are no doubt aware, for all the convenience of the SIXAXIS' built-in rechargeable battery, keeping a controller juiced can be a hassle if you're using the USB connection to the PlayStation 3, as the console must remain on to send electricity to the controller. Fortunately, third party manufacturers are on the scene to offer a convenient alternative.
Nyko's Charge Base 2 is a plug-in-the-wall solution that takes the PS3 out of the controller charging equation. To charge controllers, users attach small adapter dongles to SIXAXIS controllers via their mini-USB ports. The adapters stay in place, and allow users to drop the controllers into either of the two vertically-oriented docking bays on the Charge Base 2. A pair of large indicator lights on the Charge Base indicate status, red for charging and green for charged.
The system looks pretty convenient and should be a competitive option for PS3 owners that need controllers ready for action at all times. Nyko's Charge Base 2 will be hitting retail shelves next week, priced at $29.99.
Chris Arbogast, Nyko's Marketing Manager, offered a statement with the announcement. "The original ChargeBase for PS3 was well received thanks to its quick charging and storage abilities. Being committed to constantly improving our products has enabled us to design a smaller solution that is easier to use and available at a lower price."

Source: Dark_AleX
Our hero Dark_AleX released the newest revision of his Custom Firmware, also known as 3.71 M33.
Changelog:
- Bugfix: Multidisc psx games bought in the psn store would not work due to the format being different
and M33 treating them as decrypted games.
- Added support for decrypted multidisc psx games created with popstation_md (supplied with this release).
Included in the package is a new version of popsloader.
Popsloader:
- Bugfix: Games without compression had sound issues when using 3.72 pops. Fixed.
- Added support for multidisc px games created with popstation_md. Note: multi disc games will
only work in 3.71 and 3.72 pops. Previous pops will exit to the xmb with generic error 0x80000004
when attempting to run multidisc games.
Enjoy.

Unreal Tournament III has finally hit PS3 in US after months of confusion over it's release, and we can confirm it's pretty bloody good.
Earlier this morning we put the PS3 and PC versions of the game side-by-side to check out the difference between them. The bottom line, though, is that it looks and plays beautifully on Sony's fire-breathing beast.
The three videos below give you a taster of the awesome variety in level design. First up is a close-quarters deathmatch map called Sanctuary, set in an oriental-style location with an outdoor courtyard.
We also give Vehicle CTF a bash in the gorgeous Suspense stage - a medium-sized arena (in UT III terms) on a giant bridge with the two bases at either ends.
Then it's onto the new Warfare mode on the absolutely enormous Avalanche level, which is so large you could get 200 players on it, let alone 16. Two huge open snowfields are connected by a central cavern.
In Warfare mode, in case you don't know, your objective is to capture a series of nodes (bases) around the battlefield before destroying the enemy's main base power core.
Go take a look! Now!

via Eurogamer
Everybody's Golf 5 will hopefully be released here [the UK] in March for PS3, Sony UK told Eurogamer this morning after SCEA announced a similar release date overnight for North America.
Over there it will go by the name Hot Shots Golf 5, but we'll refer to it as Everybody's Golf 5, much as we did in our Everybody's Golf 5 Japanese import review.
Therein we remarked that despite its simple, tap-tap-tap-GOLF gameplay and similarity to previous games in the series, the control system's hidden depths and Sony's ability to inject variety everywhere else made up for its "unabashedly old school" design decisions.
But don't just take our word for it (Dave's word, anyway) - poke your nose round the gamepage's door and you can admire trailers and Japanese adverts, too. And screenshots, if you're a bit old-fashioned.
