Revealed in Weekly Famitsu two weeks ago, the mag’s website now has screens of the latest adventure of Sony’s mascot Piposaru (the Ape Escape series in US). To be named “The Record of Piposaru War”, players will take control of a Pipo Monkey who live in the Toxica Kingdom (my translation…). Things went bad when “Stupid Prince”, on his trip to learn how to behave like a future king, unleash three demons sealed in stones. And that’s all we know so far of the story.
Also shown are mini-games that appear to require our favorite monkeys to do various funny/stupid jobs (one screen shows him waiting impatiently outside the toilet…) in order to gain experience and upgrade weapons. Visually, the game doesn’t looks that much different from the monkeys’ previous outings, lots more screens after the link below. The RPG has no specific release date yet.

After all the delays, does Gran Turismo 5 Prologue live up to expectations? Definitely, says Famitsu, who has given the game (or extended demo) a near-perfect review score.
39/40 (that's 10, 10, 9, 10, for those who can't add) was the score on the door - higher than any other racing game in the present generation of racers, with Forza 2 having got 36/40 and PGR 4 settling for 33/40.
That's a near perfect score for what is essentially a cut-down demo of the full-fat game due for release next year.
We can't say we're surprised though - have you seen these shots? It looks incredible.

Sony has been in touch to say that Warhawk expansion pack Operation Omega Dawn will be released on PlayStation Network next Thursday, 20th December.
The pack will cost GBP 3.99. It's set to cost USD 7.99 in North America.
Omega Dawn brings with it five new night-time maps, good for all the usual game-types, and a KT-424 Combat Dropship which can transport seven soldiers as well as a vehicle and pilot.
The full Warhawk - released on PSN in August and on Blu-ray in September - is a multiplayer third-person shooter where you can use planes, tanks, jeeps and your feet to kill each other.
We really liked it, and judging by the gamepage you were a bit partial yourselves, voting it up to an average of 8.4/10.

The expansion of the PlayStation Network, which will enable users to download games, movies and music for multiple devices, will propel Sony into a software powerhouse, said CEO Sir Howard Stringer.
Sir Howard told The Financial Times that Sony would focus on innovation and shift to digitisation from hardware as pillars of growth as it nears the end of its three-year restructuring plan.
"Over the next two years we will find ourselves in competition with Apple and Microsoft," he said. "If we can connect the dots we have a great advantage over consumer electronics rivals and some advantage over Apple and Microsoft."
Sony has been criticised for taking too long to launch an integrated music, movies and games content site, giving Apple ample time to strengthen its video content and launch Apple TV.
Under Stringer's tenure, the company's core electronics division has staged a recovery, although its key games division remains in the red due to lacklustre sales and high investment costs for the PlayStation 3.
"The next cycle is actual innovation," said Sir Howard, pointing to the company’s new organic light-emitting diode (OLED) televisions, which are just 3mm thick.
"When you look at OLED, your impulse is to say 'wow'. We need that reaction from people at Sony … it's a statement of confidence, that there is a path to somewhere else," he said.
Although OLED is not exclusive Sony technology, Sony is the first company globally to commercialise OLED TVs, which are likely to have a monopoly on the next generation of flat-screen televisions for the forseeable future. Toshiba recently shelved plans to produce OLED TVs by 2009, due to falling prices for liquid-crystal display televisions and the massive costs of investing in equipment capable of churning out larger panels.
As previously reported, Sony is on course to post a 5 per cent operating profit in its fiscal year ending in March.
Some analysts have speculated that Sony's CEO would step down should the electronics group achieve its full-year targets, but Stringer told The Financial Times that he would remain at the company for three more years.

LittleBigPlanet hopefuls may have a new trailer of a pirate ship, but they won't be getting a demo this year despite previous comments to the contrary.
So says MTV anyway, after bumping into a Sony America PR called Ron Eagle, who said: "I can officially confirm that there won't be a demo this year." Boo!
On the plus side, Eagle says the game is very good and that it's due out next year. But then he would say that.
To see what else he might talk about, pop over to our LittleBigPlanet gamepage for more trailers and coverage of the game's original announcement at GDC.

PS3 is currently selling to the tune of 200,000 units per week in Europe.
That's according to Sony boss Howard Stringer, who has said that - in comparison - between 40,000 and 50,000 PS3s per week are selling in Japan, CNBC.com has reported.
Meanwhile here in the UK Sony has, apparently, been extolling the value virtues of the console, suggesting the actual price of PS3 is £614.98.
It's reached this figure, reportedly, by adding up the cost of the 'player' components - Blu-ray, DVD, etc - of the console if you were to buy them as individual devices.
There's even a diagram (pictured) doing the rounds on the internet that's said to come from Sony that proves it's all true.

Phwoar! Sony has offloaded another lot of (tiny) God of War PSP screenshots and yes, it looks like God of War... on a handheld.
Alright, it's pretty impressive that it's managed to squeeze the PS2's premier action series onto the PSP, but is anyone really interested in manoeuvring Kratos on the bus?
Frankly we're not convinced that there's much more to be done with the God of War series on last-gen hardware.
Surely the fantastic God of War II did pretty much everything the mythic brawler can without a SixAxis and 512MB of RAM, and we fear Chains of Olympus is just going to tread old ground.
We'd love to be proven wrong, but until then we'll keep waiting for Kratos' debut on PlayStation 3.

This time from IGN:
Sony Japan announced today plans for a year-end firmware update for the Japanese PSP that will add some major functionality to the system just in time for Christmas.
On 12/18, Japanese PSP owners will be able to download the version 3.8 update. This update adds the following features:
BB Mobile Point Demos
When in the vicinity of an access point for Yahoo BB Mobile Point, a paid wireless internet service that's available at 3,500 retail and public locations throughout Japan, you'll be able to access the PlayStation Spot retail download service directly from your PSP. This will give you access to demos of upcoming games. This service appears to be available even to those who aren't subscribers to the BB Mobile Point service, as you won't be prompted for an SSID/WEP key, ID, or password.
Record Television Programs
Those with the PSP's 1seg tuner will be able to record television programs to their Memory Stick Duo. Some programs will allow you to flag them in advance for recording as you browse the 1seg channel guide. Once it's done recording, the PSP will automatically enter sleep mode. This feature will not allow you to record multiple programs at one time, nor will you be able to watch a program while recording another. Game and internet functionality of the system will also be inaccessible during recording sessions.
Internet Radio Compatibility
You'll be able to listen to streaming internet radio broadcasts through an Internet Radio Player.
Two of these features appear to be specific to the Japanese market, so we'll have to wait for official announcement to see what's in the 3.8 update for regions outside of Japan.

Sony Japan's latest exotic-looking PSP export, Patapon, is due out in the US in February 2008, Sony America announced overnight.
Sony UK told Eurogamer it hopes to release the game in a very similar time-frame, but that either way it's definitely confirmed for Europe.
As you may know if you've watched any of the wicked trailers, Patapon is a 2D game where you use musical beats to march an army of tiny warriors against their opponents.
Various drumbeats are used to march, retreat, attack and defend across 30 missions, and there are all sorts of upgrades to pick up as you dance your way to victory.
For more on the game, check out Chris Hinojosa-Miranda's post on the Sony US blog.

New release from Art:
Hi Guys,
This is a wifi connection sniffer based on sdk sample, and uses Intrafont. While I like WarPSP (califrag) I have been unable to compile it to modify it to my preferences.
I want to add sound to such an app so it can indicate connections through headphones while the PSP is in your pocket, and no wifi sniffer does this yet.
I will probably continue with a similar program, and include sound, but drop Intrafont unless a solution is found. All looks fine to start until you get a few connections on the screen at once, and it starts printing things on top of each other. I'm not sure if this is my fault or not. The main.c source file is included anyway.
I haven't seen an app use Intrafont, so it might be worth checking out what it looks like.
The program actually had more functionality than this, but I have stripped it down, and made a mess in trying to locate any error. Now it it quite small, so C programmers,if you find any clue please let me in on it.

News/release from Sakya
Dhammapada PSP is a simple Dhammapada reader.
"The Dhammapada is an anthology of verses, belonging to the part of the Theravada Pali Canon of scriptures known as the Khuddaka Nikaya, and
consists of 423 verses.
Something like a quarter of the verses are to be found in other parts of the Pali Tipitaka, particularly in the other verse parts of the Khuddaka Nikaya such as the Sutta Nipata and the Thera- and Theri-gatha.
The Dhammapada is probably the most popular book of the Pali Canon, with the possible exception of the Satipatthana Sutta, or the Sutta on the
Turning of the Wheel of the Law (Dhamma-cakka-ppavattana Sutta). It is certainly the most frequently translated portion."

Japanese golfers have been enjoying the latest in the Hot Shots Golf series since last summer, but today Sony confirmed Hot Shots Golf 5 will be driven into U.S. stores this spring. Longtime Hot Shots developer Clap Handz is still at the helm for the fifth entry in the series -- the first to appear on a current-gen console.
Golfers should start practicing their swings for a March 2008 release. To get you all psyched, here is the game's official feature list from Sony:
- New Shot System – Focus on the swing and not a power meter. Players will closely monitor takeaway and impact zone, taking into account distance, club selection, and weather. Of course, players may still opt for the traditional shot meter if desired.
- Online Action – Customize a tournament and square off with up to 50 others, or create a match with up to eight players and follow the action of each player. Enter the online lobby and customize your character with more than 300 options including hair, masks, clothing, and numerous other entertaining options while sending messages and setting up matches.
- Larger Courses & Environments – Strategically play your next shot while taking into account the entire course. Larger playable environments let you play your errant tee shot from a neighboring hole, or take aim at a different fairway and use it as a shortcut to better align the next shot.
- Six Immaculate New Courses – Adding to the wide variety of existing courses,
- Hot Shots Golf 5 introduces a set of new courses that bring players to unique and dramatic locations including links along the coast, in the desert, among the mountains, and in the woods.
- Refined Putting Stroke – A new putting stroke is in place to take player emphasis off the power meter and focus on the beautiful environments that Hot Shots Golf 5 and the PS3 deliver. The traditional putting stroke is still a selectable option.
- Crazy Characters & Caddies – Choose from 15 different playable characters and six different caddies, each with their own distinct look and characteristics that embody the fun and spirit of the Hot Shots franchise. Customize characters in a variety of clothing options, and monitor character attributes including power, control, and accuracy.
- Downloadable Content – In between rounds, head to the PlayStation Store to download exciting content including playable characters, new courses, clubs, and clothing.
- A Variety of Golf Outings – Multiple single-player and multi-player modes of play including VS Mode, Training Mode, Tournament Mode, Stroke Mode, Match Play Mode, and other challenging modes offer a diverse golfing experience for everyone.
- Extensive Stat Tracking – Hot Shots Golf 5 offers a wide range of statistical information that allows players to measure themselves versus the competition. Track game data through each round to compare skills in categories like best average score, driving distance, driving accuracy (fairways hit), greens in regulations, par pace percentage, putting accuracy, average putt length, holes-in-one, and many other stat options.
