As of today, December 10th, beta testing on Tales of Phantasia PSX has officially begun. It’s been a while since our last update, so let me bring you up to speed on the newest stuff.
Script Translation and Editing - 100%
Skit Translation and Editing - 100%
New Features!
Selectable ability names (English vs. Romanized Japanese)
Splash screen and anti-eBay/P2P screen
Complete Patcher (made by Gemini specifically for this project)
Patches the game in 2-5 minutes depending on your system
So, there you have it. Most of this stuff has been done for several weeks. But there were internal alphas and some fixes to do, so nothing much that we could update people on. Why am I only posting two pictures? The truth is that I have TONS of them. But frankly, why would I want to tempt you with the game? I mean, before long, I’m just going to give it to you. ^_^

We don't normally get obsessed over the wattage of our various consoles, OK, there was that one time, but Aeropause did some updated PS3 wattage tests and found two points worth sharing. First, the PS3's standby mode (aka when it's "off") only takes 1W of electricity. That's not much, and is considered pretty good as some electronics use near their full wattage during standby. But when put into Remote Play standby mode, the power consumption jumps to 24W. While that's still not absurd, it could make the difference of about $10/year on your electrical bill.
The other new finding was that while Folding@Home averages about 215W, ditching the visuals for the screensaver only averages 185. In other words, by ditching Folding's visuals and turning off Remote Play, you could save some quantifiable energy. Just something to keep in mind...

Guerrilla Games has come under a bit of fire after admitting that screenshots of the Killzone 2 released last week had been retouched.
As Kotaku notes, side by side comparisons of the Games Convention trailer and new screenshots suggest some serious tweaking.
Guerrilla's Seb Downie protests on the PS3 forum: "They are only the tiniest bit touched up." He admits there was "a little bit of colour-correction done and some minor polish, but nothing major. Still very close to reality and it looks better in motion in my opinion."
Of course, the knee-jerk reaction is rather negative. After the original Killzone 2 trailer turned out to be "target rendering", the production of retouched screenshots was bound to rub people the wrong way.
However, Downie's argument shouldn't be dismissed. As anyone who has ever captured footage or screenshots directly from console hardware, or recorded video or images using shakycam, can attest, colours do need to be corrected because of the often wildly differing settings and characteristics on either side of the hardware interface.
You may remember that around the time of the PS3 launch we took some screen-grabs from PS3 review code and they appeared washed out, even drab. When we took the shots the first time, they looked absolutely fine, so we published them, only to discover that when viewed on other screens the result was significantly inferior. Once the colour had been re-balanced, they looked as they should.
So, does this mean Killzone 2 looks exactly as it does in the screenshots? Not necessarily. But it doesn't mean Guerrilla was trying to pull a fast one, either, which seems worth pointing out.
Killzone 2 is due out during, er...well, that's another matter entirely.

Sony has released a new trailer for LittleBigPlanet showing off a pirate ship level.
Debuted during the Spike TV Videogame Awards yesterday, the Go! Team-accompanied 102-second short shows players customising their ship with seaweed, shells and the like before taking it for a ride.
Toward the end the cute, woolly little rag-doll characters zoom down a hill at speed, something they look slightly upset by, before barrelling into some blocks which tumble about the bows as they disembark.
Developed by British outfit Media Molecule, LittleBigPlanet sees players reshaping their environments, and past demos have seen players collaborating to overcome physics-based puzzles.
There's a heavy emphasis on user-created content, which is part of Uncle Phil's "Game 3.0" vision, and you can admire some more trailers on our LittleBigPlanet gamepage.

Mathieulh has posted some great news for fans of his and Dark Alex`s work:
Just making a little anouncement, it seems as the current progress let me believe that there will soon be a multidisc compatible pops (inclueding a brand new popstation binary) which will natively support multidisc games (no more need for patches !) although you will sure need to make a lot of space on your memory sticks as all the discs will have to be in a single eboot.
Awesome news for fans of PSX Emulation on the PSP and especially those of you who own multidisc games, erm i only own red alert games that are multi disc

This week seems to be a big one for the PS3. After a couple of quiet weeks for all the systems, The Orange Box, Unreal Tournament 3, and Blacksite: Area 51 all make their debuts for the killer Sony system. Universe at War: Earth Assault also premieres this week for the PC. What game do think is going to take the cake this week?

This version consists mostly in merging uTunnels own changes from his local version of OpenBOR. We should be 100% compatible with his wonderfull Golden Axe Mod!
Also uTunnels had introduced a filter library that was only partially working. 4 out of the 7 filters were broken and I fixed the rest of them. I'm think in the future we will enable MMX logic to help the framerate when using Filters in Windows version. The nice thing about the filters is that its written in complete 'C' and can be ported over to any environment such as dreamcast, psp and so on.....
However, i will not exhaust you all with the details. I will only highlight the new cool features.
Engine Bug Fixes:
--> Logs error when samples are missing and ignores them when trying to play missing samples.
--> We now safely exit the engine when running out of memory. Check your log files for details.
Engine Updates:
-->PSP Users, Modules/ctrlhook.prx is now required for Both Slim and Fat models. Modules/dvemgr.prx is only required for Slim. Delete your settings.sav file for PSP.
-->New PSP commands:
Home + Start restart OpenBOR.
Home only now acts like escape key in windows.
All Buttons are reprogrammable: Vol+, Vol-, Note, Screen and Hold switch.
Plus many more other changes. However, the goal of this message is for people to try out The first completed mod that uses the OpenBOR script engine!.
Make no mistake this mod is fantastic and requires a PSP Slim as it uses more than 20 MBytes for initilization/in-game play also this mod uses the full resolution of 480x272 and you can grab it over at my site. www.lavalit.com

SMS the Media player for the PS2 has been updated with a new release, heres whats new:
- fixed quite nasty bug in the mpeg1/2 decoder (blocky artefacts in some cases). Thanks to
'orangpelupa' for the note and sample clips;
- fixed incorrect inclusion of folders into playlist upon "Play all audio" action; Thanks
to 'vsub' and 'dlanor' for the research/note;
- fixed stupid typo that prevented custom greek font to be loaded;
- added functionality to convert DOS character encodeing to Windows one. This allows correct
display of localized filenames while using SMB networking. 4 default conversion tables are
provided: CP866 <-> CP1251 (DOSCyrilic <-> WinCyrillic), CP737 <-> CP1273 (DOSGreek <-> WinGreek),
CP850 <-> CP1252 (DOSLatin1 <-> WinLatin1) and CP852 <-> CP1250 (DOSLatin2 <-> WinLatin2).
Custom conversion tables are supported in form of 'cyrillic.mtx', 'greek.mtx', 'latin2.mtx' and
'latin1.mtx' files placed in mc:/SMS folder. These can be generated by 'SMSCP.exe' Win32
command line application which is also provided. It's usage is pretty simple. For example to
generate 'cyrillic.mtx' file use following command: 'SMSCP 866 1252 cyrillic.mtx'. 866 means
codepage ID for DOS and 1252 - codepage ID for Windows. If character charset is changed while
browsing SMB share then manual directory rescan is required (leave and enter folder of interest
while in SMS browser). Apparently this stuff also depends on 'Regional setings' of the SMB server;
- added '?' character replacement by appropriate region letter for 'mc0:/B?DATA-SYSTEM' string
for user defined language file (if that string is present);
- implemented exception handler that is invoked if something goes terribly wrong with SMS.
It displays some technical information about the exception that can help to fix the problem.
There's a possibility either to reboot SMS (if it was launched from a memory card) or exit to
the PS2 browser;
- fixed corrupted background image issue. Thanks to 'MrJiggles' for the semark and sample file

With prices on HD DVD players in a perpetual state of free fall, it was only a matter of time before the slashings bled over to the other camp. Sure enough, Samsung's fairly well spec'd BD-P1400 -- which was announced at $549 and sold at $499 in late August -- has sunk to $298.76 at Amazon.com.
And hey, if you need extra incentive, there's always the five free flicks that come along with it.

It looks like Ash may have been right. Stuff magazine is running a rumor item on the possibility of an upcoming Aibo, the robotic dog, working with the Playstation Portable and Playstation 3. The rumor goes that the Sony Aibo PS, as they call it, is being resuscitated by Sony's Playstation division in an attempt to "bolster the PS3's arsenal."
The Aibo PS will appear with its own avatar within Home and react in the real world as he does in the PS3's upcoming interactive environment, according to the article. The rumor article goes on to say that you will be able to download new personalities for the dog from the Playstation Network and that the dog will be fully controllable using a PSP via WiFi. The dog's head camera will send a real world vid feed to the PSP's screen as well. The Dpad will control walking movement and the four main buttons will deal with head movement, which seems odd.

News/release from Max thebest
Hi!
I'm just releasing the version 2.0 of my prx protect me.
Here are the changelogs from version 1.0:
Corrected the speed of the letters (I slowed it down because it was way too fast!)
Changed the name of the password file : now it doesn't really look like a password file
Corrected (At least it wortks on my PSP) the bug of the theme, which hid the password in the xmb
Now the prx checks if there is a password file or not, if there isn't, the prx doesn't ask the password anymore.
Now the password is encrypted in the file (not very hard to uncrypt but that's enough for your brothers or children...)
Now here is how to install it:
Put the installer files into PSP/GAME150
Launch the installer via the XMB and enter your password. Then press cross to save it.(you need to (re)do this , even though you had already installed version 1.0 or 1.1, because now the password is encrypted...)
Put the password.prx in seplugins and add this ligne to vsh.txt: "ms0:/seplugins/password.prx"
Activate the plugin in the recovery menu.
And that's it, now it'll ask you a password each time you boot to XMB!
