Gosh, this Rock Band release has been a bit dramatic, eh? We hope this is the end to Canada's Rock Band tribulations, as Joystiq has been informed by a Harmonix representative that December 20th is the final Rock Band release date for Canada. This applies to the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions; we are currently awaiting confirmation on whether the PS2 version shares the same date.
The announcement should hopefully lay to rest those rumors which pushed Rock Band's Canadian release into January. For Canadians near the border it's probably still a good idea to just take that recently empowered currency and purchase the package in the US. We reckon Dec. 20th is cutting it awfully close to the big day, especially if purchasing by mail.

The Australian government is no stranger to banning video games. Plenty of high profile releases have come under the hammer of the authorities in recent months, deemed too violent for public consumption.
With this and the recent issues surrounding Manhunt 2 (which is still banned here in Europe), is it really too far fetched to suggest Rockstar is listening and taking notes of what it can and can't get away with more than ever?
Grand Theft Auto IV, the biggest game of 2008, has been rated Down Under and it came away with a 15+ (similar to the BBFC's '15'), rather than the expected (at least in terms of previous games in the series) 18 or Mature rating.
The certificate comes with the added incentive of a "Strong violence, Strong coarse language, Drug and sexual references" tag, which describes all the reasons exactly why it'll be the biggest game of next year from sales to controversy.
Cries of censorship are already reverberating around forums. We've since been told that there's no such rating as 18 or above for games.
Many gamers are hoping that this is just "the Australian version of the game", cut to get past the authorities, and that other territories around the world will receive the "full uncut" version. This is all speculation though at this point and we're not saying the game's been cut, but gamers are concerned it might have been.
But would Rockstar really risk its biggest game in years to get banned from going on sale by receiving an Adults Only certificate in the US, which would lead to the same issues as Manhunt 2 got caught up in? Of course not - no company is made of money.
Let us know what you think below.

The Burnout Paradise demo and quirky downloadable puzzle game Piyotama are the highlights on the PlayStation 3 Store in Europe this week, while a WipEout Pulse demo is basically it for users of the PSP Store for PC.
The Burnout Paradise demo is on the PAL and US stores and weighs in at around 764MB, allowing you to explore a few sections of the free-roaming Paradise City setting and try out new gameplay features.
Piyotama is a left-field puzzle game that involves organising eggs into rows by shaking the Sixaxis or sliding them left and right off the edges of the play area. It's quite compulsive and plays very well, as we noted in our US import review, although it struggles to hold interest long-term due to a lack of urgency.
Also on the PS3 Store are a handful of demos and add-ons, including a free Folklore mission, a demo for NBA 2K8 and High Stakes on the Vegas Strip: Poker Edition. The US Store, meanwhile, is detailed on the Sony US blog, and don't forget - those of you with Japanese credit cards - that none other than Gran Turismo 5 Prologue was released in Japan yesterday. We'll be bringing you our thoughts on that soon, obviously!

US magazine PLAY has revealed new details of the rumoured Tomb Raider Underworld game in development at Crystal Dynamics.
The game is tentatively aimed at next year on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC, according to Tomb Raider Chronicles' dissection of the preview.
Set after the events of Tomb Raider Legend, Underworld is - in the magazine's phrase - "pure woman versus wild".
It sounds like the technology has taken steps forward since Legend, with Lara leaving footprints in the mud that wash away in the rain, while bodies and debris maintain their position even after she leaves an area [what century is this? - Ed].
Other additions include motion-capture for Lara, a new "hybrid lighting model" that combines dynamic lights and light maps, and neat little touches like mud that sticks to her knee then falls off in the rain.
Sounds amazing. Then again, Tomb Raider: Anniversary pretty much actually was, and we'd be lying if we said we weren't looking forward to Underworld. Despite the name.

Activision has issued a statement responding to Harmonix' claim that the company was deliberately blocking the release of a controller compatibility patch for Rock Band.
As reported earlier, Harmonix alleged that Activision was blocking a patch that would allow the PS3 Guitar Hero III controller to be used with the game Rock Band.
"We have been and remain open to discussions with Harmonix and MTV Games/Viacom about the use of our technology in Rock Band," Activision replied in a statement.
"Unfortunately for Rock Band users, in this case Harmonix and MTV Games/Viacom are unwilling to discuss an agreement with Activision."
The terms of the company's response suggest that Activision is possibly seeking a licensing agreement from Harmonix, although no mention has been made regarding the amount of money the company is asking for.
For its part, SCEA is staying out of the row, referring to it as an intellectual property matter that must be resolved between Harmonix/MTV and Activision.
Activision, meanwhile, is facing a class action lawsuit from gamers unhappy that the Wii version of Guitar Hero III outputs only mono sound despite having stereo sound and Dolby Pro Logic II surround sound advertised on the game's packaging and manual.

Sega Japan announced today that the upcoming PS2 remake of the original Nights: Into Dreams will include a mode of play called Christmas Dream. To access this mode, which takes place in a snow-filled world and features Santa clothing for the Nights character, you'll have to clear the main game.
Fans of the original Nights will have probably made the connection by now, but Christmas Dream is based off Christmas Nights, a Christmas themed bonus disk for the original Nights that was given away to Sega Saturn owners both as a special pack-in with the system and bundled with a magazine. As with the rest of the remake, Sega has updated the visuals for the PS2.
The PS2 Nights: Into Dreams remake, Christmas Nights and all, hits Japan on 2/21. A release outside of Japan has yet to be announced.

Agetec has announced plans to publish the excellently named "Puzzle Guzzle" for PSP from Irem next spring.
In it, players race to assemble triangles and other shapes by rotating marked squares pieces (it says here).
"It may sound simple," apparently, "but winning at Puzzle Guzzle requires that players think in multiple dimensions to succeed."
There are competitive modes to play against friends, and, er, that appears to be your lot in terms of description.
Fortunately there's a bit more on the Agetec website, including a firm 26th February release date (is February in spring?) and box artwork.
We're told there to expect three puzzle modes - Quiz, Drop and Stuffit - with hundreds of puzzles, scope for chain reactions and downloadable content via Wi-Fi Internet connection.
Check out this Puzzle Guzzle PSP screenshot gallery for more.

Sony Computer Entertainment has acknowledged that in-game integration of the PS3's Cross Media Bar (XMB) is one of the console's most requested features.
Speaking to ShackNews, PSN boss Eric Lempel told said that in-game integration of the XMB is thankfully high on Sony's priority list.
"We are looking at a number of enhancements related to accessing some of the XMB features during gameplay, including messaging your friends," he said. "While there's no timeline to announce at this point, we've heard loud and clear from consumers that in-game XMB access is one of the most requested PS3 enhancements."
At the moment there's no real way to access PSN friends lists and messages without quitting into the PS3's main menu. Hopefully that should change in the future.
It has to really. Xbox 360 has been doing in-game messaging and matchmaking since it Xbox 1. It's not like you didn't know it was a popular feature.

Yet another release from Team M33/Dark_AleX! This time it's a mac address spoofer for all the hardcore WiFi hunters out there. Here's the notes from the readme.
This is a plugin to temporally change the mac address that your psp sends to Access Points or other wifi devices.
Requirements:
- 3.71 M33. It may work in future M33 firmwares but it is not guaranteed.
Instructions:
- Copy PSP directory to your memory stick. Execute the MAC Spoofer install program.
This program will reflash the configuration files changing a bit the modules load order.
This is needed because the macspoofer plugin needs to be executed before wlan.prx.
- Copy seplugins folder yo tour memory stick, and activate the plugin in recovery in both, vsh and game.
The mac address will be spoofed to the address contained in /seplugins/mac.txt
You can use the characters RR to specify that macspoofer should randomize that byte.
