The Remote Play functionality on the PS3/PSP is great, but Sony intends to extensively develop the feature set for broader external connectivity. Sony's CEO, Sir Howard Stringer, appeared in Tokyo and detailed how Sony intends to push the ever-booming success of the PS3. It is Sony's vision that the PS3 will eventually be able to link up to mobile phones, streaming all kind of media goodness on the go. As you can imagine, the very prospect has our PSP phone speculation senses running into overdrive.

Normally when we cover a story about Blu-ray, it comes with the whole "oh, it's outselling HD DVD 2:1" smack talk. However, we can't actually say that for the week ending December 9th. Instead, we can say "oh, it's outselling HD DVD 3:1" and crack a sly grin. How did Blu-ray wipe the floor with their high-definition competitor? It was the third Pirates of the Caribbean film -- Superbad helped out, too.

News/release from daaa57150:
Hi everyone,
I'm developping a game and thought it was time to release a demo because now we can have a good feeling of what it will be like. It's named DJ Drops, and it's a musical puzzle game where you have to clear levels by resisting until the end of the song.
The blocks have different shapes and colors (6 each) and to make them explode, 4 of the same color and/or shape have to connect.
The game has a quite nice combo system to chain like hell
You can chain combos by different ways:
- the classical : blocks explode, those above fall and connect, combo!
- the explosion : the blocks take some time to explode and during this moment you can add other blocks to make more combos
- the cooldown : after an explosion, a small amount of time is given to make blocks explode somewhere else, if you do it before the time is elapsed, you make more combos.
The game is "musical" in the way that the gameplay is in rythm with the music.
In the current version (demo 4.1), a test stage is available where lines come up in a given interval, so it's not musical at all but you'll see how it works. To test that, choose "gameplay" in the menu.
A level with a music who's influencing gameplay is also available, choose "levelssoup" in the menu.
The 2 levels are quite hard but it's doable, at least you'll have some challenge right ?
How to play :
MENU:
up/down to change item
X to select
[ ] to cancel
start to quit
GAME:
left/right to move the pair
down to make it go down faster
X and O to rotate (clockwise/counter clockwise)
L and R to teleport the pair to the left/the right
start to come back in the menu
select to take a screenshot
The special blocks with a number on them explode once they get to 0. For this you'll have to chain combos. Shielded blocks need to connect in packs of 5 minimum.
Other informations :
You have to quit via the menu because the home button doesn't work (if someone wants to help..)
The game still looks like a big test center, there are really a bunch available to see all I can do with particles generators etc.. The source code is there too so if you need anything just take it, but mention my name somewhere in your release.

Via ps3fanboy:
The European Playstation website lists a new firmware update that will be released tomorrow. Version 2.10 is mostly a visual media-based update, with none of the listed features having any impact on gameplay. In other words, you can stop holding your breath - there's no in-game XMB here. Instead, we the arrival of two highly anticipated features. Blu-Ray profile 1.1 and DivX support will heavily increase the PS3's standing as a media hub.
There's a smattering of other little additions, all of which we've listed after the break. There are also a couple of stipulations with regards to DivX - namely, that copyright protected files, v3.11 encoded videos and files larger than 2GB cannot be played.

The live action films weren't that great, but Resident Evil's got another chance at making right on the movie screen with the straight to DVD CGI flick Biohazard: Degeneration.
The trailer has just been released and although it's not quite at the same level as Square Enix's gorgeous FFVII Advent Children, its looking fairly decent.
The CG animated film, which is released next year, hopes to better the live-action efforts with "groundbreaking visual effects and a brand-new story line", says Capcom. Plot details are scarce at the moment, but from the trailer we know it's got Leon Kennedy, Claire Redfield and erm, zombies in it.
We'll let you know how it turns out when we get our hands on the disc later next year. At least it hasn't got Milla Jovovich in it.

Who's having the best day ever? Nerds. That's who. Not only was their beloved NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams the belle of the new release ball, their spirits can now truly take flight with the news that Final Fantasy VII prequel Crisis Core is coming to American PSPs on March 25th. As you may already be aware, Square Enix's action RPG follows Zack while a part of SOLDIER as he meets Cloud, Sephiroth and others. With over 710,000 copies sold in Japan, we can't wait to get our hands on it.
We could try to do a better job of outlining where Crisis Core falls in a chronological sense in the FFVII mythology, but it's a little more effort than we're able to put forth on a Monday, so "before the PlayStation game" will have to suffice. Take your little brother's head out of the toilet and ask him, we're sure he'll be able to explain it to you.

Square Enix has a tradition of dominating the annual Jump Festa event with first-ever playable peaks at its upcoming titles. Another tradition for the company is to announce a few of those world-debut playables just before the start of the show.
The second tradition continued today with the announcement that two titles will see their world playable debuts at the show, which will be held this Saturday and Sunday at the Makuhari Messe just outside Tokyo. Attendees will get a first shot at Dissidia Final Fantasy for the PSP and Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days for the DS, and will walk away with some presents that are sure to fetch millions of yens on Ebay.
Those hoping to get their hands on the PSP and mobile entries in the Kingdom Hearts series will have to attend a future game event, as these two will be video only.
We'll have more from the Jump Festa later this week, so be sure and check back (even if you hear reports about IGN having closed down for the holidays).

The first images from the new Tomb Raider game have hit the internet.
The shots reveal trademark Lara Croft action; gaming's most famous heroine hanging from ledges by her fingernails, performing acrobatics and dual-wielding pistols.
First details on Tomb Raider: Underworld appeared at the end of last week, saying that the game is set after Legend and describing it as "pure woman versus wild".

Jack Tretton, CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America, has hit out at publishers who have suggested that console manufacturers need to lower the price of their hardware to improve sales.
Late last month Activision's Robert Kotick said that he wanted to see the Xbox 360 and PS3 priced at USD 199 within the next two years', but Tretton has called this suggestion "unrealistic".
Reacting specifically to Kotick's price cut suggestions in an interview with The Mercury News, Tretton said:
"I'm surprised by it, because I would never venture to suggest what software publishers should price their software at.
"So I don't think it's appropriate for them to suggest what hardware should be priced at."
Tretton said that publishers should be just as interested in Sony's business as their own, pointing out that without hardware, there's no third-party business.
"I think from an unrealistic standpoint I'm never surprised by that, because a software manufacturer may not be concerned whether a hardware manufacturer is successful or whether they're profitable.
"But I think they should be, because without the hardware manufacturer, the software manufacturer has nothing to publish on."
And speaking more bluntly about Kotick, he said if the Activision CEO didn't appreciate the way Sony is currently running its PlayStation business, "maybe he should design a platform."

PlayStation president Kaz Hirai says he wants to ramp up the amount of software available for the PlayStation 3 in a bid to stay competitive with rival platform holders.
According to The Associated Press, Hirai told the Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper that PS3 games will now be Sony Computer Entertainment's main focus following the company's previous attention given to its pricing strategy.
"[The PlayStation 3] is starting afresh as a console to play games with. Although pricing strategy is important, now we would like to put our strength in the number of software games," he said.
Many commentators remain underwhelmed by the PS3's current software library, which pales in comparison to that of Microsoft's Xbox 360. Numerous big-name console platform exclusives have been released for Xbox 360 this year, including BioShock and Mass Effect, while a number of triple-A multiplatform titles such as The Orange Box have been less well received on Sony's next-gen console than on Xbox 360.
Hirai was speaking following the recent introduction of PS3 price cuts in all major territories, a strategy that resulted in increased sales throughout the US, Europe and Japan.
He noted that he expects Sony to meet its target of shipping 11 million PS3 units by March 2008, the end of the fiscal year, while adding that he would like to see Sony's game division "escape as soon as possible from the red and return to the black in fiscal year 2008".

Naughty Dog's new PS3 adventure, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune is brilliant (but short) and there are no plans to extend this 10-or-hour adventure with download content.
Naughty Dog co-president Evan Wells confirmed: "We aren't planning any downloadable content for Uncharted," blowing away all hopes for an extra dungeon or two to explore.
He did say, however, that his team is planning to integrate the game with Sony's upcoming Home service - an online homespace application. "We are planning to take advantage of whatever kind of integration into Home is possible," he told D-Pad magazine, not hinting at any specific features in particular.
If you haven't played Drake's Fortune yet, you should - one of the best PS3 games of the year.

Sony is set to launch version 2.10 firmware for PlayStation 3 tomorrow, introducing DivX playback among other new features.
That's according to the eagle-eyed NeoGAF forumites who uncovered information on the Spanish PS3 website. We've heard from independent sources close to Sony that it's accurate and not some sort of elaborate wind-up.
The DivX playback allows for VC-1 WMV files (providing you "Activate WMA Reproduction" in the System Settings menu), although it's not possible to play copyrighted files, those compressed with DivX 3.11 or files bigger than 2GB.
So what else is in there? Well, there's no in-game XMB as yet, but there will be Blu-ray 1.1 support, and a voice changer feature, with five presets and base and treble adjustments.
Sony has already said that the PSP will receive a firmware update tomorrow, introducing several Japan-specific features.
Expect more tomorrow.

Piers Harding-Rolls, senior games analyst at Screen Digest, believes that while 2007 is firmly the year of Nintendo, 2008 might see some significant change.
A brief report highlighting the key features of several technology markets pointed to some long-awaited exclusive content, as well as a new raft of multi-media services, which could propel the PlayStation 3 to the forefront of the console battle.
"One of the market shifts to watch out for in 2008 will be the continued evolution of Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 from games consoles to multi-media hubs," said Harding.
"Now that these multi-media services – online video, IPTV, digital terrestrial TV and PVR functionality - are now available or poised to come on line in different markets, this 'hub' strategy is emerging as a key console battleground for Microsoft and Sony."
Another section of the report mentioned the ongoing struggle between Blu-Ray and HD DVD, and analyst Richard Cooper believes that this landscape could also change significantly.
"Next year we expect to see shifting alliances, and with such a delicate stalemate, it's only going to take one major player to swap sides and the market will shift seismically. We believe this will happen over the course of 2008, with major players moving to format-agnostic or format-exclusive positions.
"Both formats must start to make an impact on the HDTV viewer next year if hi-def is to become more than just a niche market – we have seen hardware prices drop in 2007, but the battle over content in 2008 will be the year this storm breaks."

A lorry containing £120,000 worth of Laptops and PS3s has been hijacked and stolen in County Antrim, Northern Ireland.
The hijacking took place on Friday afternoon, said police, on Lylehill Road in Templepatrick. So if you live around there, look out for a shifty bloke in the pub hiding PS3s underneath his trench coat.
A white HGV lorry was driving along the road when a white van pulled out, forcing the driver to stop. Two men, one armed with a knife, got out of the van and forced the driver into their vehicle. He was later found unharmed but sans-PS3s.
More than 140 laptops and only 18 PS3s were nicked in the robbery, but as people who carried a console on the tube this morning we're well aware that more PS3s than that would've taken the axels off their van.
It's a tame heist compared to the £1 million worth of Xbox 360s that got hijacked last year, though as you might be aware those are much easier to carry than 6KG PlayStation 3s.
The lorry involved in the PS3 heist, registration number MV0 2XSD, has not yet been recovered. Look out for it at the boot sale.
