Prestige Edition to include real set of night vision goggles; original COD heading to XBL and PSN
Forget postcards, leather cases and flimsy plastic figures – Infinity Ward has showed everyone else how Collector’s Editions should be done with the revelation that the Prestige Edition of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will include a set of real night vision goggles.
Described as ‘fully-functioning’, the goggles are also joined with a more regular assortment of trinkets – namely an art book, steel case and sculpted head model.
Also included is a code to download the original Call of Duty on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network – the first time the previously PC-only release has appeared on consoles.
The game is out in November, but there’s no price yet for the Prestige Pack.

SPECIAL REPORT: New content pipeline and cheaper, smaller download games on the way
Platform-holder Sony is aggressively courting developers around the world to work on digitally distributed games for PSP in a bid to grow the software offer on its handheld.
And, Develop can also reveal, the firm is planning to introduce a streamlined content pipeline for the platform – which includes abolishing concept approval – plus cheaper devkits, shorter quality assurance processes, and very low price points for new games.
The details were revealed exclusively to Develop last month at a behind-closed-doors event at E3.
The news came after Sony had detailed plans to slash the cost of the PSP SDK by 80 per cent, and had unveiled the digital distribution-only PSPgo handheld.
16-year Sony vet Zeno Colaço, SCEE's head of developer relations, is behind the new strategy.
“One of the things that has been exciting in my time at Sony is the big shift changes we have seen – the latest is that consumers have been consuming digital content in a totally different way," he told Develop.
“Sony’s been working very hard to find our position in that and bring top-end gaming to not just the consumers who were there for the launch of PSP, but extending to an audience that is changing how it consumes entertainment and applications.
“We’re introducing new initiatives for the PSP which take it beyond traditional gaming, but still includes elements from gaming, and also includes new developers.”
Over 50 studios around the world are already hard at work making these new kinds of games and applications - many more are on the cusp of signing up.
Their creations will then be sold via a specially-branded, separate area of the PlayStation Store open to the PSP and its upcoming successor the PSPgo.
Signed studios include Subatomic Studios, the iPhone developer who is readying a PSP-exclusive version of its Fieldrunners tower defense game, plus casual games giant CandyStand.
It's also signed up developers from emerging markets, including India's Gameshastra, and PlayStation Network experts Creat.
This latest move will see Sony take a step closer to addressing the march that Apple has stolen on its handheld platform with the iPhone, that lets developers sell pretty much whatever they want (pending Apple's approval) via the App Store.
Sony isn't totally opening up development with a publicly available-SDK, a la the iPhone SDK, but it's doing its best to lower barriers around the PSP platform said Colaço.
He explained: "It is still a professional environment, you still need a development kit and you still need to have investment and a team. But it can be a small team. We don’t see any of the restrictions on the disc-based space being in this space."
Subatomic's Ash Monif praised Sony's move to be the first traditional format holder to more aggressively pursue creating cheaper, digital-only content and remove restrictions around getting that content available to consumers.
He told us: “This initiative is about bringing the lighter, lower barrier content to the PSP that has been so successful in other categories.
"You don’t see this happening at Microsoft and you even don’t see it happening at Nintendo yet.
"Part of that ‘snackability’ of the content is because you can deliver the content over WiFi super-fast. We’re making games that are just 20MB each, that’s less than a minute to download – instant gratification, snackable content. This is an opportunity for the premier indie developers – and I hope we represent that group – to come in and offer content that will fit the PSP.”

After a number of hints and rumors, Media Molecule made the official announcement last week that official Ghostbusters content would be hitting LittleBigPlanet. On the official PlayStation blog this morning, it was confirmed that the costume pack would be coming to the game this Thursday, July 16th.
The four costumes, which feature a Slimer "mask", Stay Puft Marshmellow Man attire, a white ghost hoodie and a generalized, proper Ghostbusters uniform (complete with a non-working proton pack and ghost trap) will sell for the normal price of $1.99 a piece or $5.99 for the complete set, which will also include a handful of bonus stickers.
Who are you gonna call?

Tecmo KOEI has told Eurogamer that PSP game Undead Knights will not appear here until 2010.
Those words follow reports of a Japanese and North American release this October, plus suggestions that Europe will get the game in a similar timeframe. Untrue; we will not.
Undead Knights was unearthed at E3. It's a third-person action game where the revenge-seeking heroes - Romulus, Remus and Silvia - can turn baddies and even bosses into zombie followers.

The downloadable Mirror's Edge Time Trial content has turned free on the PlayStation Store.
This unexplained phenomena occurred a few days ago, according to vg247, and the previously seven-quid bundle has remained free ever since. That's not the case on Xbox 360, however, where the extra Time Trial stages still cost 800 Microsoft Points (GBP 6.80 / EUR 9.60).
Mirror's Edge Time Trials present an airborne archipelago and challenge you to run and jump and puzzle your way to the finish as fast as you can. They forego the forgettable story and flimsy combat of the main campaign too, and focus on the pure and exhilarating concept DICE built its beautiful game around.

June came and went with no sign of the PS3 Fallout 3 DLC, as promised. A new post on the PlayStation Blog reveals that the content will be "releasing later than originally expected." You don't say. Quite a bit later, actually, as we should be seeing the first packs being released "by the end of September." Ouch.
There is some good news, though. Seeing as there's such a large delay, Bethesda will be changing the order in which the packs will be released. Broken Steel -- which expands the game beyond its original ending and increases the level cap -- will be the first pack to be released, with Operation Anchorage and The Pitt coming soon after. The latter two may well be released simultaneously, as an apology for the delay. The two new packs, Point Lookout and Mothership Zeta will then be made available "as soon as [Bethesda] can."

The launch of Battlefield 1943, while problematic in terms of server performance, has still proven hugely popular with gamers, with over 5 million kills having taken place in its first day online.
The game, the latest in the shooter franchise from EA DICE, was originally launched on July 8 but demand for online games crippled the servers just 24 hours into the title's life.
But following the introduction of additional servers the game's performance increased, allowing more games to be played.
According to DICE's Gordon Van Dyke almost 30 years of gameplay had already been completed by midday on Sunday July 12 - inside of four days online - on the Xbox 360 platform alone.
The title, also available on the PlayStation Network, costs GBP 9.99 for the PlayStation 3 and 1200 MS points (GBP 10.20) on Xbox Live.

A Tales of Vesperia demo is on Japan’s PlayStation Store, just like Namco Bandai promised. And it’s not a rehash of the Xbox 360 demo. You can use Patty Fleur, the new pirate girl added to the PlayStation 3 version. Switch Patty into the lead to directly control her.
Unfortunately, this demo doesn’t have hidden English text and voice acting like the Japanese Xbox 360 demo. Sorry, no stealth confirmation about an international release… yet.

We're pretty much assuming this video of a purportedly "stolen" PS3 slim at a street market in the Philippines is fake, but given the mounting pile of evidence and Sony's other recent leaks, we feel compelled to share it with you. Nothing particularly amazing here -- it's a blurry video of a black plastic box with that new rounded-off logo style from the PSPgo on it -- but if it's real it's certainly interesting. So, what say you -- KIRF, or the real deal?

What's not to love here? Just look at that handsome blister pack, ready to mince flesh in your enthusiasm to get at Sony's largest and most convolutedly named Memory Stick PRO-HG Duo HX. The 32GB stick is rated at 20MBps reads or 15MBps writes when using the bundled USB adapter. Imagine, had you purchased pretty much any device other than that Cyber-shot, Handycam, or Alpha shooter from Sony you could have been enjoying 30MBps read/writes from 32GB SDHC class 10 cards. Nope, no availability date or pricing announced, how could that information possibly be useful in a press release?

Cryptography researchers Joppe W. Bos, Marcelo E. Kaihara, Thorsten Kleinjung, Arjen K. Lenstra and Peter L. Montgomery have just announced that they have set a new record for the elliptic curve discrete logarithm problem (ECDLP) by solving it over a 112-bit finite field. The previous record was for a 109-bit prime field and dates back from October 2002. Their calculation was done on the EPFL cluster of more than 200 PS3s (same one used to create the Rogue CA certificates and demonstrate a reproducible attack on MD5 algorithms). On the PS3, the effort is equivalent to about 14 full 56-bit DES key searches!

We know you've probably bought Myst eight or nine times by this point, but we thought you'd still like to know that a new iteration will soon be available -- this time, for the PSP. Hoplite Research, who collaborated with the adventure game's original developer Cyan Worlds to put the game on DS in December 2007, is dropping the game on the PlayStation Network next Thursday. Much like the DS version, the PSP port will contain all the Myst non-action you know and love, as well as the bonus Rime Age that appeared on Nintendo's handheld.
What the press release that revealed all this information lacked, however, was a price. We've contacted Hoplite to try and discern this crucial piece of information. We'll let you know as soon as we find out.
