News/release from Freeplay:
Use this tool to build a customized pspbtcnf.bin file for firmwares not supported by PSPBTEdit.
I designed this tool because I didn't have any way to load plugins in APP mode on 3.90m33-2... and Go! Messenger runs in APP mode.
As with most of my releases, the source is included. Thanks to Dark_AleX for information about the new pspbtcnf format; this wouldn't have been possible without that. (Well, maybe it would be... but it would've taken a little longer.)
Usage: btcnf <pspbtcnf file> -build | -extract -b | -e
-e | -extract: extract pspbtcnf file to pspbcnf.txt
-b | -build: build pspbtcnf file from pspbtcnf.txt
The pspbtcnf.txt file should be pretty straightforward; it's just a list of modules paired with a list of modes each module is loaded in.
Valid modes are VSH, Game, Updater, POPS, and App, abbreviated as V, G, U, P, and A. To make a module load in one of these modes, just add it to the list after the module name. They can be in any order, upper/lower case, doesn't matter.
Here are a few examples:
$/kd/hpremote_02g.prx VGUPA
$/kd/openpsid.prx VGPA
$/kd/usb.prx VGA
$/kd/ata.prx VGU
$/kd/umdcache.prx G
$/kd/mgr.prx VPA
$/kd/msaudio.prx V
$/kd/np9660.prx A
$/kd/vshbridge.prx VU

Da_MerV posted this entry in the Neoflash Coding Contest.
This game is a demonstration of the power and capability of Lua. In this game you must tilt the PSP to roll the ball along a course to the goal. As the levels pass, the courses get more challenging, and the ball rolls faster. A great game for anyone and any age!
Featuring:
-Realistic control with the motion kit
-Pseudo 3D levels and great graphics
-Simple gameplay for any age player
-Small size: the entire pack is only 1.56 MB uncompressed
PLEASE NOTE: PLUG BEFORE YOU PLAY, THE PROGRAM ASSUMES THE MOTION KIT IS ALREADY THERE
Enjoy the game and don't forget to vote!

It's not much of a shocker to learn the latest (and final) installment in the Metal Gear Solid series is a sizable one -- MGS games have a history of being big (and beautiful). However, a recent interview with series creator Hideo Kojima revealed a startling fact about MGS4 -- Kojima complained that a few features had to be cut from the game so it would fit on a Blu-ray disc. As format fanatics already know, that means the game takes up nearly 50 gigabytes of space.
If true, this is bad news for anyone who hoped to see anthropomorphic cow-bots on the 360 (unless that data was divided between about five dual-layer DVDs), but it could also mean a painfully long installation time for PS3 owners as well. We can only imagine that 49 of those gigabytes are taken up by thousands of variations on just three lines of dialogue -- "Snake? SNAKE? SNAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE!?"

Here is a first beta version of the homebrew I am currently working on.
It allows you to browse Google Maps, and to switch between the map, satellite and terrain views.
I know there is already another project for this, but it is using a different approach.
My program is not using the Google Map API and it is not a website.
Instead, the PSP is connecting directly to retrieve the images.
The homebrew for firmware 3.x is available here: http://royale.zerezo.com/psp/ .
I hope you will enjoy this little software

Eugene Plotnikov has updated his Simple Media System for the Sony Playstation 2. SMS is a multimedia player capable of playing back many popular formats such as DIVX, XVID, MPEG and MP3's. SMS also supports many ways to play back your media such as network streaming, USB drives and discs.
What's New?
Fixed problem with (S)VCD .DAT files. Thanks to 'Salacho' for the remark;
* USB mass storage driver is rewritten from scratch (though some elements from 'ps2dev's' one were used).
* Added support for up to 4 USB mass storage devices (FAT formatted) that are simultaneously connectedto the console. USB devices with multiple logical units (like -in-1 cardreaders) should also work(tested here with SWEEX CF004 53-in-1 cardreader with CF and SD cards)). Transfer speed varies depending on filesystem fragmentation (peak rate exceeds 800KB/s sometimes (btw., maximum raw transfer rate (without filesystem overhead) I've got here is around 950 KB/s which is the same as on my PC (USB 1.1 slot). If this driver will cause problems then there's still a possibility to use older driver as described in changelog from 05-FEB-2008;
* Improved .aac file autodetection algorithm. Thanks to 'lee99' for the sample clip;
* Added support for HE-AAC sound. Thanks to everybody who provided sample clips;

It's been more than a year since the accidental shooting of 18-year-old Peyton Strickland by Cpl. Christopher Long, a deputy of New Hanover County, N.C., during a raid of Strickland's rented home in early December, 2006. The sheriff's Emergency Response Team was serving a warrant for Strickland's arrest in connection with his suspected involvement in two PS3's being stolen from a University of North Carolina Wilmington student. Long mistook the sounds of his own team using a battering ram for gunshots, and opened fire on the unarmed teenager.
Long was not charged with a crime, but the Strickland family recently received a small amount of closure on the matter -- a $2.45 million settlement from New Hanover County, and a public apology from Sheriff Sid Causey, who admitted that Long "made a mistake as to the existence of a deadly threat".
The Strickland family will put the $2.45 million into a charitable foundation to provide need-based scholarships and other grants. "The Stricklands were not interested in money," said Strickland family representative Joyce Fitzpatrick. "That cannot bring their son back."

In a little over two weeks Armored Core For Answer will be released in Japan on both PS3 and 360. The publicity campaign the game has received has been pretty thorough, as From Software utilised the whole Web 2.0 approach by having Japanese bloggers espouse the game's virtues (something Famitsu has got in the act on with their crazy 360 blogger, Jamzy). Even the redoubtable Toshifumi Nabeshima, essentially regarded as the father of Armored Core by the Japanese fanbase, has done the rounds online pimping the game as best he can.
Features-wise, it's all a bit over the top still as For Answer comes across as being like Shadow of the Colossus but with guns and robots (traveling at 2000 km/h, obviously). A few things have fallen by the wayside though, namely the transformable AC's but other things like Dolby 5.1 in-game and full online co-op have partly made up for that (though there's always the possibility that Famitsu initially misquoted the whole transformation aspect, as a lot of the Arms Forts do transform into different modes rather than the AC's themselves).
One of the more interesting aspects of the game's production though is the use of Isaku Okabe as a military adviser (he recently did something similar for the truly excellent Gundam 00). Again, From Software didn't miss a trick and they had him put in front of a camera and explain the nitty gritty military aspects of the game.
For those that want to catch up with the deluge of materials that have been unleashed online, then the official site is a good port of call as is the Armored Core Wiki (the Next Reports are especially worth a gander). GameTrailers has also leeched the movies from the official site if you have trouble streaming them. All we need to do now is wait for the Western release and the subsequent reviews undertaken by gamers that have had their hands replaced with flippers.

Soywiz has released a new PSP Emulator for Windows:
This is a proof of concept I made of a PSP Emulator with a debugger using D programming language and DFL library. Currently, the emulator only emulates a few instructions and a few BIOS calls.
2008/03/01:
- Partial (and buggy) lighting support.
- Some cleanups.
- Starting gui for breakpoints and gpu (not working yet).
- Corrected callstack.
- Some fixes; more homebrew demos supported.
- Temporally skinning broken.
- Temporally shaders disabled.
- Updated binaries.
- Reduced size of the font used in dissasembler and memory viewer.
- Allowing reduce dissasembler window size; now imports won't overlap).
- Initial support of opening files (not working fine yet).
- Threading support currently disabled (I have to fix some issues).
- mstick and reflection demos not supported yet
2008/02/24:
- Buggy skinning support.
- Implemented guLogic
2008/02/23:
- Now using shaders (opengl >= 2.0).
- Very fast clut.
- Now I will be able to emulate sprite behaviour (sprite.pbp) with vertex shaders.
- And probably hardware morphing and skining.
2008/02/22:
- cleanups
- clut support
- y-axis correction.
2008/02/21:
- more 3d support and more fpu instructions supported
- texture mapping
2008/02/20:
- Now can run a lot of integer instruction and some of the FP ones.
- Also emulates a little of the GPU with new opengl support and support more library imports.
- Fixed some bugs.
- I found mips specs so it will be more easy to implement cpu (except for allegrex-specific instructions).
2008/02/14:
- First Attempt (Buggy)

Make that May 29 for Japan. The sequel to the dungeon crawler includes 80+ quests in the main story and probably other features I’m not aware of. Marvelous really hasn’t releaed much information about Valhalla Knights 2 other than confirming Humans and Hobbits (i.e. Halflings in the North American release) will be around. Hopefully, the machine race will be around too because mixing magic and mechs was my personal highlight in the game. Out of place? Yes, but that is what made the awkward alliance cool.
