For those who love everything R/C, this Lynxmotion hexapod kit is pretty dorktastically awesome. While technically 2 legs short of spider status, this hexapod has excellent mobility, as 18 servos drive the legs (featuring 3 degrees of freedom) a foot per second and over obstacles up to 4" high. Oh, and it's preprogrammed to work with a 2.4Ghz wireless PlayStation 2 compatible controller.
The thing to remember here is that, as a kit, the $750 Lynxmotion BH3-R doesn't have all the polish of a retail product, but it leaves the platform open to robot enthusiasts.
Windows software allows you to customize movement over its basic programming that only supports multi-directional, multi-speed movement and 360-degree spins. Maybe you'd like your robot to do the robot, accomplishing feats of engineering that even Bender cannot fathom.
And after that, you can train it to hexa-fist beer and really subvert mankind's progress.

It's like our favorite old-school commercial: "Mr. Owl, how many Playstation 3s does it take to simulate a collision between two black holes?" Apparently, the answer is 16.
A group at the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth hopes to use a cluster of 16 PS3s to run the simulation, specifically looking at the properties of the gravity waves emitted by the collision. The cluster -- nicknamed the PS3 Gravity Grid -- was built with a partial donation from Sony, who must like watching really big stuff collide as much as we do.
Similar simulations have been run before (most notably by NASA), but this marks the first time the super-calculation has been performed using a game console. Like our colleagues as PS3 Fanboy, we admit that most of the technical jargon presented here is way over our heads. We're sure some of you will "get it," though, and not just resort to Tootsie Roll references.

Codemasters has told Eurogamer that Rise of the Argonauts will be released on PC, 360 and PS3 in Q4 2008.
The action role-playing game had fallen rather quiet after its unveiling last April, but the publisher has assured us all is well and Argonauts should be ready to show to press soon.
The title retells the familiar story of young warrior king Jason, whose adventures were stop-animated to fame on the big-screen in 1963. However, the emphasis here is on exploring ancient Greece and all the perils that go with it.
Rise of the Argonauts also makes some bold claims. It wants do away with monotonous combat where one hit can kill if a sharp bit finds its way to soft flesh. And it wants to move away from good, evil and neutral paths by introducing four gods that are influenced by the consequences of nearly every action you make.
Technically it is looking to push boundaries as well, with a procedural animation system that has your sword and shield react independently depending on the area of attack, plus computer-controlled companions such as Hercules who can trigger co-operative attacks when they are in the near vicinity.

The previously-announced PSP port of flOw - that strange deep-sea fishing-like game/pastime on PS3 - will be arriving on the PS Store (on PC) tomorrow.
The idea behind the portable version is the same: "Explore the soothing depths of a living underwater environment, discover strange new organisms and embark on a journey of evolution," says Sony.
That basically means move some odd white fish thing into other fish things to eat them, grow into a bigger fish thing, dive deeper and repeat. It sounds dull, but it can be strangely compelling in the right frame of mind.
The bonus, however, is that PSP version will be multiplayer-compatible, with a four-player Ad-Hoc mode included.
There's still no price on it yet, but we wouldn't expect it to be more than £3.49. And we're still awaiting a UK date, too. You'll know as soon as we do.

Previous rumour reports of the PlayStation Network getting a huge overhaul in April would appear true as SCEA's director of product development confirms: "you will see a pretty big change in the PlayStation Network in the early part of April.
The rumour emerged from a retailer-only presentation, in which Sony was said to have unveiled plans to give the PlayStation Network a makeover, as well as demonstrating a new Video Store.
Sony has since remained cagey on the subject, however SCEA's John Hight has told Gamasutra: "We give [Sony's PSN team] a lot of feedback based on how our customers are reacting to things, and I think you will see a pretty big change in the PlayStation Network in the early part of April, where we roll out some new interface stuff largely based on customer feedback."
Hight held back on exactly what these changes would entail, but did tease: "Simplification, cutting down on the number of mouse clicks, making it easier to find stuff that you want to find... that's kind of an outgrowth of us having more content now, so we have to make sure that you can get at it easily."
We can't wait.

News/release from Art:
Hi Guys,
This is the Time Baby V12g release with MP3 player sleep mode.
Please let me know if there are still problems with the MP3 Player.
One thing I have found that I can't figure is the original PSP-120 headphone remote plays up with it
and only volume up and down work, but two identical third party headphone remotes work properly for
Play/Pause, Skip, and Previous track buttons.
Quote:
V12g (04/03/08):
- MP3 Player sleep mode implemented. PSP is suspended at the end of the playlist ready for the
alarm function to wake it up in the morning. Playlist is restarted on wake up, as well alarm sounding.
- MP3 Player will stop current track in single track mode, or skip to next track in playlist mode
when the PSP is woken from suspend with the mp3 player active.
- Implemented support for special config file that will cause the MP3 Player to be clocked at 333/333/166 MHz.
The second last byte can be changed to any value other than zero with a hex editor to use the fast CPU speed.
- Pause button on the headphone remote will announce the time once when the track is paused.
- Headphone remote can be plugged in at any time now the serial port is only activated in GPS time set mode.
- Various code fixes.
If the attached configuration file is used, the MP3 Player is clocked at 333/333/166 MHz
instead of 280/280/140 MHz.
You can save and load settings to and from this config file normally.

"Chains of Olympus doesn't quite live up to the other God of War games." (4) "Ready at Dawn didn't mess with the franchise's proven formula whatsoever, which is ... one of our ... gripes for the game." (3) "Gameplay-wise, nothing much has changed ... You still run around and beat the beejezus [sic] out of enemies and then meet up with the occasional boss fight." (5) "I wish that Ready at Dawn had added something new the canon rather than just re-using what's been done in the past." (7)
"The game feels a bit too familiar ... [and] at times you do feel like you've played the game before." (7) That said, "the game is missing some of the features from other God of War games. ... you won't find the ability to use your blades on grappling points, the Icarus Wings, Rage of the Gods, rope traversal, rope swinging, a fourth magic, etc." (4) "I find myself disappointed ... that the game doesn't quite have the same feeling of showing you something new around every corner that the previous games did." (4)
"The game is also brutally linear: you're constantly running from point A to point B, stopping to administer the occasional beatdown." (5) It could also be described as "a very linear experience, (3) that "may be a touch linear." (9) "Toward the end, combat got pretty repetitious, relying really heavily on the mechanic of blocking you into a room and not letting you out until you finished taking down the waves of enemies." (1) "It would have been nice to have seen a little experimentation here or there to mix things up. (3) "Altogether, ... the game feels like a bit less of an adventure and more of a straightforward action game." (4)

Jeff has released a new version of his Rogue clone for the Nintendo DS/GBA and also the PSP, heres whats new:
Much thanks go to Marvin Sanchez who has ported POWDER to the PSP so you don't need to run the GBA version inside an emulator any more. This initial release is still Alpha - I don't have a PSP to check directly with, so any problems are thanks to my meddling, not Marvin.
A large assortment of polish issues and minor bug fixes. The biggest change will be for GBA users that now have a way to enter their name that doesn't require a few days of research to understand.
* Fixed the word-wrap code so you will not see commas at the start of new lines. (Elias Erkamo)
* When you die the inventory cursor is reset to the first item so new games will see it in a reasonable starting location. (Colin Pritchard)
* When ><0|V| polymorphs your equipped weapon, no longer destroy the weapon if it is polymorph resistant (ie, artifact, unchanging, quest item) (sparrowhawc)
* Gifted items now appear BY your feet, rather than skipping the preposition. (Michael Brough)
* Stoned characters no longer report a depth of 255 in the character dump. (Michael Brough)
* When charging a stack of items, the new charges are split among the items in the stack, meaning there is no longer a significant advantage to charging a stack versus individual items.
* KnownItems in the Option menu will give you a list of everything you have identified this game, similar to \ in Nethack. (conkstah)
* Can no longer swap places when either part is submerged or in a pit (Irashtar)
* "Prove your worth in my combat arena!" now has sufficient prepositions. (Michael Brough)
* "Suits of plate" rather than "Suites of plate". (Zach Firth)
* A wand of dig will make a pit in undiggable levels. (Zach Firth)
* A bit of spell rebalancing. Sticky flames increased to 10 MP to better reflect its utility. Sunfire significantly boosted as it is supposed to be more overpowered. Create Pit's cost reduced a bit making it a comparable root attack to force bolt.
* New spell, Flash, that takes Sticky Flame's spot in the spell pre-req chain. (Irashtar)
* Character dumps to .TXT files have line wrap set to 72 columns rather than 30 so posts of winning characters will be better formated.
* The input line now has a cursor showing where you are currently typing.
* A sad day indeed! The nifty mini-game to enter your name on the GBA has been removed in favour of a mundane and boring on screen keyboard! (Zappa Penguin)
* Text input area has been doubled in size to make it easier to type your name without precision stylus placement. (David Hong, Zappa Penguin)
* A cursor has been added to the text input to make it clear when space is hit.
* Your health and mana is now colour coded if it is not at maximum. Yes, David, I have already added a note that some people may want an option to disable this.
* Successfully compiled on a 64bit Linux machine, so hopefully all of my evil pointer casts have been dealt with.
* Throwing a -2 mithril chainmail in the air will no longer heal you.
* Belweir's library now also has scrolls. (Brog)
* Adjusted inventory wrapping again. Horizontal movement will only move which column you are in and no longer adjust your row. Vertical movement will stay inside the equipped item list if you start there, otherwise loop over all of your unequiped items. This better matches the logical separation of these two lists. (Irashtar)
* Finger of Death description adds some text to clarify it is a ray spell and accidents occur due to reflections. (Irashtar)
* Flails wildly replaced by Completely misses which is a bit less confusing about the origin of the text. (Irashtar)
* I normally document every small grammar fix that occurs, but then someone gives me a few pages of corrections. Numerous fixes thanks to R. Dan Henry.
* SDL port to the PSP. (Marvin Sanchez)
