News/release from Freeplay:
Use this tool to build a customized pspbtcnf.bin file for firmwares not supported by PSPBTEdit.
I designed this tool because I didn't have any way to load plugins in APP mode on 3.90m33-2... and Go! Messenger runs in APP mode.
As with most of my releases, the source is included. Thanks to Dark_AleX for information about the new pspbtcnf format; this wouldn't have been possible without that. (Well, maybe it would be... but it would've taken a little longer.)
Usage: btcnf <pspbtcnf file> -build | -extract -b | -e
-e | -extract: extract pspbtcnf file to pspbcnf.txt
-b | -build: build pspbtcnf file from pspbtcnf.txt
The pspbtcnf.txt file should be pretty straightforward; it's just a list of modules paired with a list of modes each module is loaded in.
Valid modes are VSH, Game, Updater, POPS, and App, abbreviated as V, G, U, P, and A. To make a module load in one of these modes, just add it to the list after the module name. They can be in any order, upper/lower case, doesn't matter.
Here are a few examples:
$/kd/hpremote_02g.prx VGUPA
$/kd/openpsid.prx VGPA
$/kd/usb.prx VGA
$/kd/ata.prx VGU
$/kd/umdcache.prx G
$/kd/mgr.prx VPA
$/kd/msaudio.prx V
$/kd/np9660.prx A
$/kd/vshbridge.prx VU

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment is taking an experimental approach to embedding digital copies of its movies on DVD, including offering a half-dozen catalog titles exclusively through Wal-Mart and two DVD premieres to the entire market.
Since late last month, Wal-Mart has been exclusively offering six Sony catalog titles that come loaded with a digital copy for playback on the PlayStation Portable, PlayStation 3 and the PC. The embedded copies—within Blood & Chocolate, Bobby Z, The Contractor, The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth and Wind Chill—all expire within three to six months of going on sale at Wal-Mart. Additionally, titles may be offered widely at retail after 30 to 60 days. Wal-Mart has priced the discs at $13.72.
In order to enjoy these copies, buyers register online using an individual code that is included in the DVD. That registration will notify people about whether the file has timed out or not. Sony reserves the right to extend the life of the file at any time.
One possible benefit to a short-view copy is the ability to curb rampant file-sharing or copyright infringement.
In January, Sony also offered a copy embedded in the two-disc special edition of Resident Evil: Extinction exclusively at Wal-Mart.
At the same time, Sony is marketing digital copies on the DVD premieres Hero Wanted and Diamond Dogs, both due April 29. The digital files on these titles appear not to expire after a limited time.
Sony is unique among studios testing digital copy in its use of catalog and DVD premiere titles. Warner Home Video and 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment are plugging files into major new releases, including March 18 release I Am Legend and April 15 release Juno, respectively.
Sony also is the only studio so far to steer those files to play on Sony gaming consoles. Plus, it is pioneering the placement of limited-view files.
“We are testing the whole concept right now,” said Lexine Wong, Sony senior executive VP of worldwide marketing. “There are space requirements to include files, so we’re choosing titles that don’t feature a lot of bonus features [in order to fit copies]. Also, we’re choosing titles that would resonate with customers that like PSP, with [action] titles like Diamond Dogs and Hero Wanted.”
Sony is additionally angling for a one-two punch using digital copy to elevate both the value of DVDs and the PSP. Although a hit for gaming, the PSP has struggled as a movie playback device. Sony is the only major studio releasing new film content for the PSP, which is produced by sister unit Sony Computer Entertainment. MTV also has licensed certain TV programs for the console.
To watch a Sony copy on PSP, people insert the DVD into their computer and transfer the file onto a memory stick. That drive device is then plugged into the PSP, which stores the movie file for playback. It is a similar process to watch the copy on the PS3.
Already, Sony is buoyed by the results of its experimentation. Although it was not offered everywhere, Resident Evil generated 30,000 copy transfers from the DVD.
“We are really excited, where the [copy] concept is letting us manage the convergence between packaged media and digital downloads,” said Wong. “This is added value.”

We can only assume that Blu-ray's victory in the format war pushed this particular Briton over the edge and made him truly believe that the PS3 is in fact "the best console ever made" -- his words, not ours. Quite frankly, we're not sure exactly how much alcohol was involved in making this decision, but we're going to assume that it's just a matter of time before he gets three more to one-up this fellow.

Over a year (yeah, really) after this thing was originally announced, Nyko has finally slid the final piece in place in order to offer up the rumbling, bumbling Zero Wireless PS3 controller to end users. Granted, the version hitting shelves as we speak does include rumble, but since you've waited this long, you're probably better off getting the real deal when it lands in April -- for $5 less. Still, those who actually prefer 3rd party kit can look forward to being $59.99 poorer and receiving 25 hours of play on a full charge, LED-backlit buttons, "heat-dissipating aluminum panels (saywha?)," and your choice of black, white or silver.

Charnold has updated his editor for PSP Dungeons:
I've made 2 small changes to the editor:
1) now you can put a light inside a component (wasn't possible before, because the component blocked the lightrays, the component is lit by the light inside it)
2) you can have open areas now: means, you can calculate the lightmaps now for sealed and open areas
- "for sealed areas" works like before, it removes outside polygons, use this for sealed rooms
- "for open areas" doesn't remove outside polygons, use this for open areas only :-)

News/release from Luv
I'm from antwerp so if my english is crappy... sorry.
What this program do:
- copy fw installers on the right place
- check if the fw file is in the root before copy any fw update
- copy recovery plugin in seplugin
- copy the pandora installers (1.50 / 3.52 m33 / 3.60 m33 / 3.71 m33 / 3.80 m33)
To do List:
- making a big help function
- edit / create the recovery txt files
- convert a battery
- make a magic stick
- Fix the o3.52 update
-> Dax installer put it in \GAME150 and not in \GAME
-> This is needed to update from 1.50 to 3.52 m33
- Make a 1.50 version
Bugs:
- Toolbox will not start in Fw. 3.71 M33-*
- crash after copying twice in the update folder
-> This is not a problem cause you can only have one update at a time
-> When you copy the wrong update then restart the application
--> (or try to copy and let it crash. Sometimes it works) [strange]

New from Play Asia:
description
The ancient world speaks of a mortal that slayed a God. But long before his battle with Ares, Kratos sought absolution from his past sins by pledging himself as a champion to the Gods. These brutal crusades in the name of Olympus became legendary.
The Ghost of Sparta is now ordered by the Gods to journey the underworld, after the world plunges into darkness. There he must face the most feared creatures of Greek Mythology and forced to choose between his own personal redemption and saving the ancient world from certain destruction.

VMP has an official site up now, and you can grab a video here. It's a hex-based strategy RPG for those who don't know - more coverage here. Plenty of wallpapers as well, if you like those! There's also a glossery of the game's masters, and a bestiary of sorts. The PSP version will have four modes now, scenario mode, expert mode, free battle mode, and network mode, which of course allows network battles over the adhock wireless.

It's nice to know that Sony Ericsson is plugging away on making our crazy, dare-to-dream fantasies a reality. The latest proof that someone up there (and by up there, we mean Japan) likes us comes in the form of a new patent for a touchscreen handheld that forgoes physical buttons for a haptic-feedback scheme. The design mandates that the phone / game device would be free of the pesky clutter of regular buttons, and would instead by configurable to any number of forms (PSP, phone, MP3 player, digital camera) by arrangement of on-screen controls. The device would vibrate in accordance with button-presses, though it's unclear whether this will just be a standard vibration, or a more advanced, location-specific feedback system. Even with a little buzz, we're not quite sure you can replicate the feeling real gaming controls provide -- and that could seriously interfere with our typical success in games.

We've heard nothing on the Getaway since 2006's Game Developer Conference. And two years with no news usually means a canned game, but Sony has broken its silence just in time.
The good news is that it's still very much in development, or so says screenplay writer Katie Ellwood.
The demo shown at GDC '06, featuring a scene in Piccadilly Circus in central London, looked so good (see here) that Sony had to move the camera around in real-time to abolish suspicion that it was all fake.
"The Next Gen of consoles have liberated us in other ways," says Ellwood. "There are wider possibilities to use that processing power and tell a story during the game play," she said, talking of the creativity generally afforded by the more advanced consoles.
"We can stream a wider variety of dialogue and animations to progress the story and characterisation rather than breaking the flow of the game play for a cutscene. If games are about immersion, then we are now about to deepen that immersion," commented Ellwood.
Speaking more specifically about Getaway PS3, she revealed that Sony is "talking to production houses about a movie for the third game in the Getaway series."
Ellwood explains: "The story and game script for this one is very exciting, as is the writer we have on board. I'm afraid I can't give any further information, other than to say: watch this space."
But when will it be out? Elwood gave no hints, but it doesn't seem like it'll hit its 2008 release as originally tipped. Still, that's probably a good thing, what with that little game known as GTA coming out this year...

Leading video games developer and publisher Namco Bandai Games America Inc., announced today that Naruto: Ultimate Ninja 3 has gone gold for the PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system. Based on the popular Naruto animated series, from VIZ Media, this fighter steps it up a notch and delivers new innovative features, enhancements and customizations. Battle through 20 stages with over 40 popular Naruto characters in the fiercest battles the series has ever seen when it is released on March 25.
The most feature-rich game in the Ultimate Ninja franchise to date, Naruto: Ultimate Ninja 3 will not disappoint as it offers up a host of firsts for the series. Turn characters into giant ninjas of unprecedented size, or summon large beasts to help turn the tide in Summoning Mode. Also for the first time, North American fans can listen to both English and Japanese voiceovers.
Naruto: Ultimate Ninja 3 will also include a brand new original story, which will have players exploring the Hidden Leaf Village and participating in battle royale matches in over 55 scenarios. The fun doesn't stop there, as tons of unlockable items such as movies, music and cards are hidden away offering loads of replay value to the game.
Naruto: Ultimate Ninja 3 is rated "T" for teen by the ESRB and carries an MSRP of $39.99. For more information please visit: http://www.namcobandaigames.com or www.naruto.com.

With the PlayStation 2 port of High Impact's excellent PSP take on the Ratchet & Clank series just a week away, the official PlayStation Blog posts some details about the game's multiplayer. PS2 Size Matters takes the same amusing multiplayer functionality from the PSP version and splits it in two for split-screen goodness between you and a friend. You get four maps - Island Escape, Danger Valley, Mega Cannons, and Moon Cow Disease - complete with the Iron Lombax special challenges for each map. Personally I miss my R&C online multiplayer, but how much can you really expect from a $29.99 port of a PSP game?
