SEGA plans to reveal a full list of playable characters in next-generation 2D Sonic title Project Needlemouse this week.
The reveal is gradually going on over at the US SEGA blog, where fans have to answer quiz questions in order to reduce the list of possibilities until we hit on the final cast.
The initial post has already drawn the required number of correct answers for day one (perhaps because people can see what everyone else's answers are in the comments), and the next few days take in Facebook, the official Sonic forum and Twitter. Good times.
Project Needlemouse is a codename for SEGA's attempts to revamp Sonic in 2D on PS3 and Xbox 360.
Not much is known about the game, announced last year, but it has already attracted interest on the basis that it's not another 3D Sonic game, which reflects how far the hedgehog's star has fallen in the years since Sonic Team discovered the third dimension.

EA's Jens Uwe Intat tells MCV that new controllers will drastically grow the market
In an exclusive interview with MCV, EA Europe’s senior VP Jens Uwe Intat has claimed that the upcoming Xbox 360 Natal and PS3 Motion Controller will reach audiences left untouched by the Nintendo Wii.
"The new controllers from Sony and Microsoft will allow two things," he told MCV. "They will allow new game experiences for existing players.
"But they will also allow what Nintendo has achieved to some extent, and that is to get new people into gaming – people for whom a traditional controller is not the most natural way to play, for people who are much more comfortable using something more intuitive. I think they will expand the audience even further than Wii and the Wii Remote Controller.
"Our studios are working with the first parties to create some interesting games for those controllers. We can expand the audience for an existing game, but it’s also a good time to come up with brand new ideas and way to play.
"We’re working on the specifics of our plans, but we will have games available that work with both controllers at launch."

Measured in quality and not quantity is PartQual with a new version of his Windows tool — pspHBSortTool v2.0 — which as the name suggests is responsible for sorting your memory stick loaded collection of PSP homebrew.
You should also know pspHBSortTool is compatible with the Game Categories plugin… So if you’re using that, and it’s not running in “content browser” mode, you may preferentially reorder whatever categories you have defined.
pspHBSortTool v2.0:
Upgraded background DevEnv;
Added icon and title to on-screen information (not for CSOs);
Added lots of error handling for odd events;
Added rollback option when file/folder lock encountered.

Burnout developer Criterion has rubbished leaks sprung this morning about the new Need for Speed game.
"NFS stories on the net today - 100% FAKE," Tweeted Criterion.
Those reports claimed the game would be called Out of the Law and set in a fictional San Francisco known as Sun-Bay. Police cars would apparently be unmarked and racing was to be focused on street cars rather than expensive sports cars.
Two pieces of concept art were leaked.
EA confirmed last November that Criterion is making the next instalment of Need for Speed, but so far that's all we know.

London developer Mediatonic is to release its first PSP Minis game, Monsters (Probably) Stole My Princess, in February this year. The vertically scrolling platform game is one of the largest PSP Minis titles yet created, and at 95mb in size it very nearly tops the service's 100mb upper limit.
Featuring a full story mode with animated cutscenes, and 24 levels, Monsters (Probably) Stole My Princess boasts impressive size within the remit of the Minis games, which typically offer bite-sized gaming experience. Mediatonic
“There is a lot of room for growth in the Minis section of the Playstation Store and we truly hope that MPSMP will stand out as the fresh, original and fun title that it is," said Mediatonic’s co-founder and creative director Paul Croft. "It’s a massively exciting game for us and we hope that our players will enjoy playing it as much as we’ve enjoyed creating it. We’ve had a lot of experience in developing browser-based and iPhone titles, but this is the most ambitious game we’ve attempted.”
Mediatonic, which is most well known for its iPhone title Must.Eat.Birds, has stated that it sees Monsters (Probably) Stole My Princess as a comedy game.
Writer and designer Jim Griffiths said: “We’ve worked hard to integrate the story and game mechanic as deeply as we can to create the most fun and compelling experience for the player possible. We’ve also crammed as much genuine (if slightly dark) humour into the game as we could – we really want people to crack a grin when they play. That’s our aim.”
Both Croft and Griffith have starred in the yearly '30 Under 30' feature hosted by our sister site Develop.

News/release from mootjeuh
You know, I always hate it when I'm on my PSP and I have to see an image without my Computer. So I decided to make a little homebrew that'll help me with that.
It's written in C and very basic. It can load PNG, JPG/JPEG, BMP and TIF/TIFF images. And also TTF fonts. Press Select button to quit.
There is one bug, if you choose to blit an image, if you press on Circle, it's supposed to go back to the browser, but it doesn't :/
this application will be built-in in one of my projects: AtomicOS
what I plan for the next release:
a nice 3D background
support for more image types
no bugs

News/release from clizana
This is a whole new version, not an update from the previous hb.
Goear PSP is an application designed for the search, download, play music from the site goear.com
Version 2.0 Features
- Support multi languages improved. Now there's no limit, just copied to a folder and are ready to use
- Support for skins. If you want you can customize your homebrew with your own skin, completely flexible when creating it.
- Preview of the songs. Before downloading sometimes we hear a little bit, now that's possible.
- Download list. Download songs one at a time was boring, now we add to a list and subsequently downloaded (also supports download unit)
- Updater. This feature is important because if you change some parameter goear enough to schedule a small update and users to download from the homebrew.
- Added a main menu, options and more.
- Added a local music player, to test the songs we've downloaded.
- Setting near-total, as each time the homebrew starts, display a copyright message or advise if there is new updates.

New release by the coder for patpat CTFtool GUI PC program that allows you to create themes for the CXMB PSP-compatible addition to allowing the extraction of files from format issues. Ctf ready. With this new update are introduced some new features and fixed some bugs related to the conversion of the themes for CF 5.50.
Changelog v3.7:
Quote:
Note: The following files were removed from the archive:
- 5:50 Folder: game_plugin.prx, game_plugin.rco, msvideo_main_plugin.rco, music_main_plugin.prx, paf.prx, visualizer_plugin.prx, vshmain.prx
- Folder SUPPORT: common_gui.prx, vshmain.prx, paf.prx
These files have been removed because, for a range of domestic policy of PSP-ITA, are not allowed to post on the forum.
To seek, you must use the PSARDUMPER and extract them from their firmware.
- Ability to unpack the files PTF, not those created with "Custom Theme Converter v1.0.0.0"
- Function "Drag & Drop" for the conversion of PTF themes in CTF (not for the PTF created with "Custom Theme Converter v1.0.0.0)
- Added batch file for extracting files from themes CTF ready
- Added conversion issues for 5:03
- Fixato a bug, present in GUI translated into English, related to the conversion of subjects from 5.00 to 5.50
- Fixato a bug that did not allow to show the exact size of the files after decompression RCO
- Fixati more bugs
