The London Pub personal space is now available on PlayStation Home for £3.99, which is said to provide "all the banter but obviously none of the booze." Erm...
So you can't even buy virtual beer, get virtually pissed and watch your avatar stumble to his other Home space via the virtual kebab shop or anything. Sounds rubbish.
But for those of you interested in paying to go to a virtual pub that doesn't sell beer, here's the full PR:
VEEMEE, an independent creator of branded and original content for games platforms and virtual worlds, are pleased to announce that The London Pub, the first virtual London pub, has gone on sale today in PlayStation Home, priced at €4.99.
Based on your favourite London watering hole, situated on the banks of the river Thames overlooking The Houses of Parliament, The London Pub personal space comes complete with a multi-player darts game, a roaring open fire, comedy beer pumps, crank phone calls and hand dryers that don't dry your hands (they're only virtual you know).
Commenting on the release of The London Pub, Kirk Ewing, Creative Director at VEEMEE said, "It's always nice to inject a bit of humour into the games industry. In a virtual pub you can get all the banter but obviously none of the booze. In The London Pub in Home we always encourage people to 'Think Responsibly'!"
To celebrate the launch of The London Pub, VEEMEE has teamed up with Unicorn, makers of the world's finest dartboards, to give away 30 real Eclipse Pro Dartboards in the first 30 days to anyone who plays the multi-player darts game in the virtual pub and tops the pub darts leader board in PlayStation Home.

January 14th, 2010, 16:06 Posted By: wraggster
Sony Japan has revealed a new digital terrestrial TV tuner named torne for the PlayStation 3, similar in concept to Sony Europe's PlayTV hardware.
The torne add-on will allow users to view digital terrestrial broadcasts via the PS3 and record them to either an internal or external hard drive. The peripheral attaches to the PS3 via a USB connection and comes with its own software that incorporates an interactive TV guide.
The software also allows users to track the most watched television shows from other PS3 users. Recorded programmes can also be transferred to the PSP via a memory stick or via the existing Remote Play feature.
Although torne does feature additional functionality over PlayTV there is no indication yet of a Western release. Once it debuts in Japan, North America will become the only major territory not to have its own TV tuner for the PS3.
The release date in Japan is set for this March, at a price of 9,980 yen (GBP 75/USD 109). A "PlayStation 3 Digital Terrestrial Broadcasting Recorder Pack" bundle will also be launched at the same time, including a 250GB PS3 console and the torne peripheral.
The launch of the 250GB model, the largest size of hard drive currently available worldwide, was announced for Japan at the same time as the torne unveiling. A standard standalone bundle for the 250GB model will launch earlier though, on 18 February, for a recommended retail price of 34,980 yen (GBP 234/USD 381).

Sony has released more sales figures from its record-breaking Christmas period, confirming that not only did hardware fly off shop shelves - 3.8 million PS3 units were sold during the five week Christmas period - but PSN revenue also hit an all-time high.
In total, PSN revenue increased by 155 per cent in North America on December 2008, reports Kotaku, making it the single highest revenue month to date for the network.
Sony confirmed its most downloaded game of the month was Final Fantasy VIII, while Q-Games' PixelJunk Shooter was just behind it.
In a statement from Patrick Seybold, SCEA's senior director of corporate communications and social media, it was confirmed that December 2009 was "the single highest selling month for PS3 hardware and software since its launch in the US."
As previously reported, hardware sales leapt by a huge level and software sales were also up - 60 per cent on last December.

Sony Computer Entertainment has filed a quartet of new trademarks that may offer a peek into the PlayStation 3 and PSP maker's upcoming software plans, including a new ninja game.
Of the four new trademarks filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, it's only Legend of Kunoichi that gives us a sense of what Sony has planned, something starring a female ninja on some PlayStation platform. And it's likely not a reference to Sega's PlayStation 2 sequel to Shinobi, known as Nightshade in the West, Kunoichi in Japan and pictured above.
Three other titles, Smashbreak, Digi-tiles and Earthshield, sure sound like smaller puzzle or arcade games, the type of content that sound ideal for PSP minis releases or PlayStation Network games. (The trademarks are protected for "game software for hand-held equipment with liquid crystal display" and "downloadable video game software," but Sony may simply be overprotective.)
Another option? Smaller games for the PlayStation 3's motion controller, due relatively soonish.

As announced in this week’s issue of Famitsu, a PSP version of Knights in the Nightmare is in the works. New features include tutorial missions, a database of character chats in a talk collection, and an animated opening movie.
Knights in the Nightmare’s unique blend of tactical RPG maps and bullet hell dodging seemed built with a touch screen in mind. Not sure how that awesome-ness will convert to the PSP. Analog stick and holding a shoulder button to select units, perhaps? The scan circulating the Internet is pretty blurry. We’re not even sure of the release date, which Japanese message boards are reporting as April 22. Please, take that date with a grain of salt until we can confirm it.

A new report suggests enough content has been cut from Final Fantasy XIII to make an entirely new game.
That's what art director Isamu Kamikokuryou supposedly told an unnamed Japanese magazine, according to Andriasang's translated version of FF Reunion's report (via VG247).
Kamikokuryou said a number of areas were cut from Japan's PS3 release of FFXIII, including a space around protagonist Lightning's home, resistance group Nora's secret base and an amusement park called Nautilus Park.
Square Enix axed the content to preserve the game's balance and keep the game-size down, the report said. Perhaps it could open up downloadable content options in the future?
Square Enix couldn't be reached for verification.
Final Fantasy XIII will be released for PS3 and Xbox 360 in Europe on 9th March.

Sony Europe has said that Gran Turismo 5's latest delay is "only applicable for the Japanese market", although the platform holder also declined to estimate when the game will be released.
"This information on the GT release is only applicable for the Japanese market," the company said in a statement to Eurogamer. "SCEE will announce the launch date for this game in the PAL territories in due course."
Sony Japan had announced a March 2010 release date for Gran Turismo 5 at the Tokyo Game Show last year, while SCEE had been a little more cautious, declining to confirm a date for the much-anticipated Polyphony Digital racer.

January 12th, 2010, 21:26 Posted By: wraggster
In a recent interview with Play3, Sony’s Senior VP of Product Development, Shuhei Yoshida said that the PlayStation 4 will use optical storage discs like Blu-Ray for blockbuster games. This was surprising considering Sony’s digital push with UMD-less PSPgo, and the trend the gaming industry has shown toward digital distribution.
So if the PS4 is to feature an optical disc drive, what will the storage format be? Will we see yet another Blu-Ray equipped console? Or will Sony usher in a new technology much like the PS2 did with DVD and the PS3 did with Blu-Ray? We may have the answer after the jump…
Considering Sony’s track record of innovation and “future proofing” their consoles, it’s hard to believe that Sony will yet again equip their console with a Blu-Ray drive. Blu-Ray is what’s hot currently, and while games still aren’t quite filling Blu-Ray discs’ maximum storage capacity, the format is clearly the “present” and not the “future”. To fully “future proof” the PS4 to withstand the standard PlayStation 10-year lifecycle, Sony is going to need to go above and beyond Blu-Ray.
Sony, not-to-be outdone by anyone, is rumored to be working on a successor to Blu-Ray. According to an article in the current issue of GameInformer magazine (Dead Space Cover; Issue 201) Sony is hard at work on “the next jump”, a disc similar to the previously announced Holographic Versatile Disc. The disc is said to have a capacity of 6TB (terabytes) or 6,000GB (gigabytes), more than enough to support 1080p HD video, 3D imagery, uncompressed loseless HD audio, along with any other AV codec you could throw at it. On top of all that storage, the format can use the massive amount of available space to implicate extra security measures, a major positive when pitching the format to game developers (and movie studios) who don’t want their games pirated.
It’s difficult enough looking into the future to predict such a need, even more so now with digital distribution becoming more and more prevalent. Sony has done it in the past with Blu-Ray and with the help of the PlayStation 3, made the format an everyday, household name. While Blu-Ray is here to stay and certainly has plenty of life left in it, so does the PlayStation 3. When the time arrives for the PlayStation 4 to be released, there could be a need for such a massive capacity storage medium. If Sony sees a need for such a format in the future, they’d likely look to the PlayStation 4 to replicate the success the PS3 had in ushering in Blu-Ray.
Do you see a need for such a technology? Do you think the Sony would take the risk again with another new format debuting on a PlayStation console? Or have they learned a lesson from the PS3’s launch price and initial reception?

THQ's punched out a 28th May UK street date for UFC 2010 Undisputed.
Despite this confirmation, there's hardly any information on the sequel itself.
The reveal trailer has a bunch of sweaty brutes telling us this game will make us fighters - promoting the game's realism. There's a small portion of gameplay at the end, but no details on what's improved or changed this time around.
What we do know, however, is that this will be worth keeping an eye on. The series debut met with both critical and commercial acclaim, giving this PS3 and Xbox 360 (and PSP) sequel a strong foundation to build on.

Sony has revealed that over one million gamers in Europe, Australia and New Zealand have downloaded the GT Academy Time Trial since launch on 17th December.
Effectively a demo for Gran Turismo 5, this offers one course and one car, and challenges PS3 owners to record their best time either as an average lap time or one-off lap.
The best 20 drivers from each territory will go through to a live national event. The 19 winners will then compete in real cars on a real Silverstone course for a real race-driving contract.
The competition closes on 24th January, so there's still time to take part.

Namco Bandai's announced a summer release for PSP game Ace Combat Joint Assault.
This is developer Project Aces' second attempt on PSP after Ace Combat X: Skies of Deception in 2006. As such, numerous improvements have been made. And chief among them is online multiplayer, where eight pilots can battle against each other, or four friends can fly together through the campaign mode. Hence the name.
There's also a new Enhanced Combat View, plus promises of smarter AI, which apparently evolves missions based on the choices you make. On top of all that are smarter graphics and a more accessible design.
