PSPx, the Russian forums where Team M33 post their releases, have been so lucky as to get an interview with the dev team. Here is the interview translated to English (thanks, Zack and Ivec!):
DIGG THIS INTERVIEW
PSPX: Please, tell us about yourself. Who are you? How many of you? How old are you?
M33: Well we can`t say much about it. This information isn`t secret, but its quite difficult to describe all our members within a few words. As we already wrote, we are Russians and Ukrainian programmers. There are five of us in the team, aged between 20 and 50.
PSPX: Are you working or studying now?
M33: Two of us still studying at the Universities, the others are working at software firms.
PSPX: How long have you been intrested in PSP?
M33: We are all bought PSP about a year or two ago. The reasons were different. One of our team members bought PSP to watch movies, the other to play games, etc...
Its interesting that none of us haven't thoght to code for PSP at that time.
PSPX: Have you ever had another consoles? Have you tried to compile programs & hacks for them?
M33: We had consoles before, but we only used them for playing games.
PSPX: Do you have any hobby?
M33: Yes - fishing and chicks.))
PSPX: How long have you been coding?
M33: Each of us started to write programs on BASIC at the age of 10-15, except one - he started his coding way from FORTRAN
PSPX: Why did you decide to continue Dark_Alex's project?
M33: Because he stopped his work. And we thought that CFW must live, and someone should continue his work.
PSPX: Was the work going hard? What was the most difficult?
M33: The most difficult was to understand which patches were made by DAX in OE, actually that`s not very difficult if you know how the firmware works.
PSPX: What is CFW lacking now? Many people want to see UMD VIDEO support, What is "ideal firmware" in your opinion?
M33: The only thing missing in CFW in our opinion is the ability to run UMD VIDEO. We think that the "ideal firmware" will be from Sony. When Sony understands the useless of their attempts to fight against CFW, they WILL release the firmware that will allow to run homebrew. That will be the "ideal firmware"
PSPX: Such frequent updates can they fright off the people? Maybe they'll start to think that nothing works on your firmware. Such tactics, is it caused by desire to share you work with people?
M33: We've let out the majority of updates only to correct the remaining bugs in ОЕ firmwares. Now you can notice that updates are not so often, and eachone of them adds all new functions, and not just corrects the bugs.
PSPX: How it seems to you, Sony's acting correctly , trying to stop foreign development for their consoles?
M33: No. Such policy is not correct. Sony should allow homebrew development, as on PS2 in RTE (Runtime Environment) on which you can program homebrew, but can't run ISO.
PSPX: Are you going to work with other consoles?
M33: Maybe with PS3, we're not interested in other consoles ...
PSPX: Do you have any suggestions for the gaming community?
M33: Buy games that you like. The developers are people too, they need this money.
PSPX: How can you comment the rumors that Dark_AleX creates under the pseudonym of M33?
M33: That's not truth. But if he wants to work with us we will be pleased to invite him ! There was a rumor, that he has finished to work with ОЕ firmwares because of Sony trying to stop him, and is very sad that he has surrendered. Flatmush posted this release on PS2dev forums:
I come bearing a release of a tool which I hope some of you will find useful. PBPCat adds extra files into an EBOOT.PBP, and basically works as an alternative to bin2o in the way that it lets you store files within the eboot and allows you to read them back from within the program.
There is a small sample included, and the packer was compiled with mingw and only comes with a windows makefile. You should use the header files included with the sample to extract files.
This is a really simple program using the PBP file description found in YAPSPDoc.
An EBOOT.PBP can have a maximum size approaching 24MB, I assume that this is because at some point in the loading process the whole pbp is loaded into memory, however as you will see in the sample the additional data is not loaded into memory until you load it.
Hopefully this will improve the way homebrew is packaged, meaning fewer files are cluttered around and making it very slightly harder for people to steal sprites, etc.

After denying the PS3 Starter Pack is a limited offer in Europe, new evidence from Sony UK has shown that the GBP 425 deal is likely to end at the end of the summer – much like the bundle in the Australian market.
Yesterday it emerged that Sony Australia would only be offering the deal – which includes the console, extra Sixaxis controller and choice of two first-party games – until the end of the month. Sony told GamesIndustry.biz that the offer is ongoing in the European regions.
However, emails being sent from Sony to consumers dissatisfied that they purchased the GBP 425 console before the Starter Pack was announced – and therefore missed out on free games and peripherals – have stated that the current deal is a summer promotion only.
"I was sorry to hear that you are dissatisfied with regards to the launch of the PlayStation 3 Starter Pack. I would like to take this opportunity to stress that this is a summer promotion and that due to the nature of this offer it will end on a predetermined date," said the email from SCEE.
But despite acknowledging that these emails were being sent out from Sony, a representative for the company again reiterated to GamesIndustry that the current Starter Pack offering "will continue for the foreseeable future".
While the messages form Sony may be mixed at the current time, it's expected that the company will be making further announcements regarding the future of the console and its price at this month's Game Convention in Leipzig.

Leading industry analyst Michael Pachter believes that there won't be another drop in price for the PlayStation 3 this year, instead Sony will likely reposition the console price ahead of the release of highly anticipated software titles GTA IV and Metal Gear Solid 4 in 2008.
However, the Wedbush Morgan exec does expect a further price drop for Sony's PlayStation 2 console before Christmas.
"Although we do not expect another PS3 price cut this year, we think a price cut for the PS2 is possible," said Pachter in his latest note to investors. "Any hardware price reduction could serve as a catalyst for sales growth later in the year."
"We do expect Sony to be in a position to cut the price of the PS3 in early 2008, when blockbuster games Grand Theft Auto IV and PS3 exclusive Metal Gear Solid 4 will launch," he offered.
Pachter also believes that publishers will continue to see growth in 2007, as investor's fears over the console transition begin to disappear.
"Should industry sales continue to be strong, we think that investors concerns about a secular shift away from videogames will subside, and we expect the US publisher stocks to continue to appreciate.
"It may take until after the holidays when concerns about the 'stalled' cycle are fully alleviated, and we expect volatility for videogame stocks through the year, though with an upward bias," he said.

Interesting article from MTV
The upcoming PlayStation Portable coming out this September is actually called the "PSP 2000." The infamous PSP hacker Dark_Alex was not hired by Sony. And the PSP is more popular here than in any other city in the U.S. (Sorry, Chicago!)
Those were just a few of the many surprises shared last week by John Koller, head of marketing for Sony's American PlayStation division during a half-hour interview about the state of the PSP with MTV News.
Koller was in town to show off the new one-third-lighter, one-fifth-slimmer PSP which will arrive on store shelves in September. In a hotel suite on Manhattan's east side, he plugged the unit into a TV, demonstrating the new model's video-output function. He played a scene from Jet Li's "The One" in 480 pixels on an LG widescreen flat-panel TV. It almost filled the screen. He played a minute of the PSP game "Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters" in its native resolution, 480x272, which, while displaying bigger than it did on the PSP, only occupied about a quarter of the LG TV. (Yank the cable out of the TV and the video signal jumps to the PSP screen.)
To the eyes, the revised PSP looks like the original. To the touch, the difference is noticeable. And the name? In public the new model will be called PSP, but Koller revealed that it is codenamed PSP 2000, distinguishing it from current models, which are called PSP 1000.
Those were the points Koller intended to cover, but he proved game to answer just about anything regarding Sony's system. For example, he confirmed what subway riders may have already suspected: NYC is the king of PSP sales, since its launch. "It's gone New York, Chicago, and then it's D.C., Philadelphia," Koller said. "Then, interestingly enough, Riverside/ San Bernardino, California." Come again on that last one? "It's very weird. I've been watching it, waiting for it to fall out of the top 10, but it has stayed at [#5] the whole time of our owner base."
That's where it's being bought. But who's buying it? Koller said that the PSP has a 95 percent male ownership, compared to 50-50 for the iPod, according to studies he's seen. More of a surprise, though, is that his market research shows that the iPod has 79 percent ownership by Caucasians, Koller said, whereas the PSP is just "44 percent or 45 percent" white. Koller said Sony has noticed this demographic surprise but hasn't figured out why. Had it become something of an urban accessory? "There's been a debate going on about whether it was our marketing that's done it and turned it into more of a cultural hip-hop product or whether it just is — if the product just lends itself to that."
Whoever owns the system, Koller said they've been calling for the video-out function added to the new PSP. When the revised unit was revealed at E3 last month, it surprised many gamers because it lacked a checklist of tweaks some gaming blogs and news sites suggested were safe bets. For example, some theorized that the PSP would drop the universal media disc format or at least de-emphasize it for a new built-in hard drive. The new unit has no such drive. "We had heard discussion about a hard drive," Koller said. "The final analysis is we decided a memory stick was good enough for now."
Others hoped for a second analog stick or nub to make the PSP do a better job of running game genres styled for console controllers. "We certainly looked at the area below the [face buttons on the right side of the PSP] for a second analog stick, but we thought the issues far outweighed the benefit we'd get out of it," he said, acknowledging that engineers at Sony's headquarters in Japan had investigated such a change. He said the problem was that games programmed for a one-stick model wouldn't work well with the two-stick and vice versa. "Japan looked at it and said [it was] too big of a problem right now."
Koller addressed other added functions people might have expected, including a TV tuner like the one announced for PSP in Japan ("not possible in North America" because of over-the-air signal costs); a GPS attachment (peripheral is done and software is currently being "tweaked for North America" for release in the next 10-12 months); and a camera like the one released in Japan and Europe ("there may be some changes to the spec sheet" before it's released in the U.S.).
He said that PSP owners should expect most of the functionality improvements to their PSP to arrive via the system's regular firmware updates. "There's a lot coming," he said, though he explained it was not possible to rectify one so-called problem with those updates: that a PSP must be plugged into a wall to perform an upgrade. "If you run out of battery life, it turns into a brick," he said. Why not just have the system check the battery to see if it has enough power before upgrading? Blame non-Sony PSP batteries. "There are third-party batteries that always report as full that are actually empty," he said. "We've had I can't even tell you how many thousands of returns due to third-party batteries."
Among the feature improvements Sony has promised for some time now is an online store for videos, music and games, accessible via the PSP. Koller said the rollout is going slower than expected and won't be public until the home office in Tokyo sorts out digital rights management issues. He estimates the solutions will be determined within six to eight months. Until then, it isn't likely that Sony will expand its downloadable game options on the PSP beyond the current system that allows gamers to download PlayStation One titles via the PS3 onto the PSP.
That said, there are original downloadable games currently in development for the PSP. To those who like the quirky range available for download and play on the PS3, he said "the PSP ones are equally as good and made for a portable." He said they wouldn't be copies of downloadable PS3 games. He mentioned the well-received E3-debuting "Echochrome" — a black-and-white puzzle game involving a figure that needs to walk through optical illusions — as the type of thing in Sony's development queue. "It was initially going to be a download-service-only game," he said. "We changed it to a UMD because it's a very rich game. That's where their mind is. They're developing that kind of game."
Other PSP projects in development at Sony include a range of plans for how the handheld will sync with fall's PlayStation Home free virtual-world service (see "Sony Unveils Big PS3 Secret: Gamers Get To Go 'Home' "). Koller said ideas have included having an extra room of Home rendered on the PSP. "Intuitively, if you take the PSP with you, you would want to take some of Home with you," he said, but added that no plans are set in silicon just yet.
Engineers in Tokyo have even looked into activating the PSP's Remote Play function so gamers on the road with their PSP could access and play games saved on their home PS3 over a WiFi connection. "It's something that's being looked at," he said, noting that lag time is the main challenge. "We certainly would be interested [in doing that with] a PSN kind of game. It wouldn't be a Blu-ray disc kind of game, a large game. That would be very difficult. ... If that could be implemented, that could be great."
With all these initiatives under way, it would seem Sony could benefit from all programmers with top PSP skills. Earlier this year the world's top PSP hacker, a gamer known as Dark_Alex who had repeatedly cracked the PSP firmware despite repeated upgrades, announced he was leaving the PSP scene. Had Sony shut him down? Or had Sony hired him? "Neither," Koller said. "I think he's taking a hiatus." Does Sony hire any of the PSP hackers? " It's not even a hiring thing. They come in and actively talk to us."
As it is his job as chief marketer of the PSP in the U.S., Koller was bullish on the system. He looks to the fall's PSP exclusive "God of War: Chains of Olympus" as the system's flagship title. And he looks at a Sony-reported 90 percent surge in weekly sales since the system dropped in price from $199 to $169 in April as a sign of encouragement. The PSP processor is now unlocked to run at 333 megahertz, whereas it had been locked at 266 from launch through this spring. He said all forthcoming Sony-made games will use that speed and that consumers shouldn't expect a hit on battery life.
So the PSP, once the darling of handheld gaming, then a bystander to the rushing success of the DS, is armed for its next charge. Will it come back? It will always have New York — and San Bernardino.

External power supplies, especially those for recharging batteries, are generally cumbersome, heavy, and all-around not worth the effort of lugging around. Take an evolutionary step with us, as we take a look at the UUEPRB -- that's USB Universal External Portable Rechargeable Battery, if you want to sound more impressive. The thing is very small and incredibly lightweight, but best of all, it can recharge our PSP's on the go!
It works exactly as you'd imagine -- just plug it into your handheld and wham! Instant battery life. For the price of about $40, it doesn't seem like a very bad deal, especially if you're on a particularly lengthy airplane or car ride and don't have ready access to an outlet. Otherwise, we don't see much reason for this device as we generally aren't away from an outlet for more than a few hours each day. Still, worth a gander if you take a lot of trips!

via Computer and Video Games
It all started when Dead or Alive mastermind Tomonobu Itagaki started talking about Sony's PS3 stunner, Heavenly Sword...
Things were going well when "I've never played a good game where the developers put a big icon of the button you're supposed to press onscreen," popped out of Itagaki's mouth during an EGM interview. He then followed up with "I look at Heavenly Sword and it seems really half-assed, because it's asking you to do all these button-timing sequences but you are not getting much payoff from it." He may have a point but we didn't have a problem with those similar action sequences in the mighty God of War games. In fact, we kind of liked them...
But Heavenly Sword producer Kyle Shubel wasn't going to let Itagaki get away with it and came back with: "My response to Mr. Itagaki would be that the intent of the Hero sequences is to empower the player to experience events that would be nearly impossible to play in a natural platforming state... for example, making the player run down ropes, leaping from rope to rope as they're being cut from underneath you, all while dodging other objects - that would be a frustrating experience to 99 percent of our users if we were to force them to do that manually."

It has finally been confirmed that you won't have to buy a thousand-pound PC to play Unreal Tournament III with proper controls because the PS3 version will support mouse and keyboard. Get in!
Epic's all-knowing Mark Rein confirmed the good news on the official UTIII forums. "I checked with Steve Polge [the lead designer] and he said that YES we are supporting keyboard and mouse in Unreal Tournament 3 on PS3," he firmly stated.
"He is confident we are doing it in a way that will be balanced without feeling "gimped" for either side. We'll also allow people to choose whether or not they want to allow mixed controller vs. keyboard/mouse games or not." This must have been a recent development because Rein had "no idea" about it when we spoke to him last week, although he questioned whether or not it's fair to give people the chance to play with a mouse and keyboard set-up, which would allow you to severely thrash anyone using a comparatively restrictive control pad.
We say its great news to know we'll be able to play the game with PC-quality control on PS3, and anyone who falls victim to the pin-point aiming of a mouse-user; serves you right. Get the equipment and play it properly, or don't whinge about it.

You may have seen this game a few weeks back, this is just a small update to fix some of the glitches before Neoflash ends. Since this is only a small release, We've decided to put it as v0.1b, rather than a whole new version.
If you're not intrested in reading this, just know that its already kxploited; no need for lua player.

If you don't already know this, Dementia is a puzzle game, although quite an abstract one at that. The aim of the game is to make all the squares on the grid turn yellow through clicking the squares in the grid, although this is much more easily said tha done, as if you click a square not only will it change colours, but so will everything around it. If its red it turns yellow and vice versa. Like I said before, the aim of the game is to make everything yellow.
I havn't bothered much with screenshots, since the GFX of the game hasn't undergone much work. therefor, the photos below were taken from the previous release thread, although they do still show the game's current graphics. Basically, this is for those of you who havn't seen this before.
Here's whats new:
- This version sports an extra 30 levels on top of the 50 from the last version. there are now 80 levels in the game.
- This version has been modified to externalize the levels from the game, meaning that level packs are supported now. I no longer have to make a full releases to add levels.
- The pesky inverse menu has been fixed, sorta. I had a lot of complaints about it, so I've put in the option to have it normal if you wish.
- I've edited the saving system so that we should end up with fewer lost game saves. If you do happen to lose your game, all you need to do is edit LEVEL.txt to say where you were up to, although its pretty sad to edit this unnessecerily.
- The 2nd fade in glitch at the start has been fixed up so to speed up the introduction and avoid annoyance.
- A new fade effect was implemented alongside the orginal for an extra special effect, lol.
- We've edited some of the credit screen and text on how to play the game to remove typos and wrong information. Sorry about that.
- We've now fixed the level numbering, in the case that is messed up having passed level 31. The level jumps have also been fixed.
- Fixed the glitch where the music stopped playing during or after the credits, I don't know what caused it, but whatever it was seems to have gone now.
- All of the credits and instruction screens have been remade, to be a lot less flashy, yet a lot more readable. Sorry for the quality loss, but we believe this is for the best.
- The quality loss of the music during the fades was looked into, although it can't be fixed easily. For now, it looks like we're just going to have to put up with it.
Well, thats more or less it for this release. Remember to please support us in Neoflash, we really need your support. From me and the Rest of teh Peek-uh-chewz dev team, Thanks for reading, playing and in all supporting us-- we appreciate it. Please remember to post your comments and suggestions for the game, they could just make the next version...!

According to the cheatcc podcast R* will be going PS3/PSP exclusive. All upcoming titles other than those in production will be on the PS3 only. If this is true it could be a huge coup for Sony as it measn that all the GTA IV spin offs will be PS3 and PSP exclusive.
