bricko writes with story at Quartz reporting the words of Belgium's home affairs minister Jan Jambon, who says that ISIL operators communicate using their PlayStation 4s; "which allows terrorists to communicate with each other and is difficult for the authorities to monitor. 'PlayStation 4 is even more difficult to keep track of than WhatsApp,' he said. The gaming console also was implicated in ISIL's plans back in June, when an Austrian teen was arrested for downloading bomb plans to his PS4." This seems a strange place to concentrate investigators' energies; terrrorists could be communicating in the chat session on the side of many social media games, too, or by any number of other means; Jambon would do well to read through some of the movie plotlines that Bruce Schneier has gathered.

Star Wars fans looking to show their affection for the Dark Side will be able to pick up anew Darth Vader-themed pad for the PS4.
The black controller was originally announced as part of the Darth Vader-themed PS4 bundle, which also includes a copy of upcoming shooter Battlefront and four digital Star Wars classics – Super Star Wars, Star Wars: Racer Revenge, Jedi Starfighter and Star Wars Bounty Hunter.
Now, Sony has confirmed the special edition peripheral will also be available on its own.
It’s decorated with red and blue shoulder buttons, a red D-pad, white analogue sticks and white face buttons – minus the mysteriously red Circle button.
The Star Wars logo is etched into the DualShock 4’s touchpad.
The Darth Vader pad will launch the same day as Battlefront – November 19th – but a price is yet to be confirmed.
The US price is $65 (£43), a mere $5 more than the standard DualShock 4’s $60 RRP, so you might expect it to cost around £55 here in the UK – £5 more than the normal pad’s £50 RRP.

Xbox may be enjoying its Halo sales success, but shooter fans are actually switching to PlayStation 4, Sony says.
PlayStation has secured third-party partnerships with a number of big shooter franchises this year, including Destiny and Call of Duty: Black Ops III, as well as upcoming blockbuster Star Wars Battlefront.
The company has created special edition consoles for all three games and PS4 has been featured in the TV advertising. That includes the recent live-action Star Wars Battlefront TV spot (below).
“This generation, the shooter audience is tending to switch over to PS4, so we’ve got high expectations for Star Wars Battlefront around both launch and into next year,” said PlayStation group marketing manager Lauren Bradley.
“When we first saw [the Battlefront TV ad] I think everyone in the office suddenly had something in their eye. It really pulls on the heart strings and celebrates nostalgia, which aligns well with PlayStation’s 20th anniversary.
“One of the most favourited comments on our Facebook post was ‘the nostalgia is strong with this one’. Star Wars is so important to so many of us, those who love it often have that one friend they grew up watching it with so its a good way to get the local co-op message across.”

Next year looks like one of the busiest in PlayStation’s history, but Sony says the packed release schedule won’t see it move away from deals with big third-party games.
2015 has arguably been defined by Sony’s reliance on third-party partnerships with major titles such as Star Wars Battlefront, Call of Duty: Black Ops III and Destiny, to make up for a dearth of first-party big hitters. (Bloodborne, Until Dawn and Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection are three notable exceptions.)
Xbox, meanwhile, has gone strong on its first-party offering, promoting Halo 5: Guardians, Rise of the Tomb Raider and the latest Forza as platform exclusives.
With PS4’s library set to become a far stronger offering in 2016 – Street Fighter V, Uncharted 4 and No Man’s Sky are all among the highly-anticipated console exclusives set for release on the machine – Sony might be forgiven for scaling back its reliance on third-party marketing deals and promotions.
But that won’t be the case, says PlayStation’s European president Jim Ryan.
“We are going to be strong with games that we have developed and we will publish, but third-party partnerships will continue to be important to us,” he told MCV.
“The days of a platform holder working in isolation are long-gone.
“It is a connected ecosystem and relationships with publishers operate on many levels – they will certainly continue to be really important in 2016.”

Want to know what the 'PS4 Life' looks like?
If Sony is to be believed it features a lot of dancing with video game characters, including some guardians from Activision's hit online shooter, Destiny.
That’s according to a new advert – which appears to have been pitched as a musical about PlayStation – which the platform holder has released entitled ‘The Wonderful Life of a PS4 Player’ to promote its console this Christmas.
The promotion features references to first-party titles, such as Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, as well as its many third-party partnerships including Destiny, Call of Duty: Black Ops III, Street Fighter V and Batman: Arkham Knight.
All of this is to the tune of Go by The Chemical Brothers.
PlayStation has a history of different marketing – when the original launched in the UK, the team tied the console to the party scene, while when the PS4 hit stores two years ago, it made .

Sony already offers a varied range of official accessories for the PlayStation 4, but in-ear headphones have mostly been shunned in favor of on-ear headsets. The good news is that if you've been waiting for a pair of branded buds, the company is finally ready to step up to the plate. With its new In-ear Stereo Headset, Sony will debut its noise-reducing AudioShield technology, adding more immersion to your gaming sessions, while filtering out any unwanted background noise during your daily commute.

October 25th, 2015, 21:01 Posted By: wraggster
Sony Computer Entertainment exec Masayasu Ito has reiterated PlayStation's stance on developing big budget Vita titles.
Uncharted: Golden Abyss - strangely absent from the recent PS4 Nathan Drake Collection.
"Currently, first party studios have no titles in development for PS Vita. Since third parties are working very hard on PS Vita, SCE's own strategy is to focus on PS4."
In short: Sony has no plans for triple-A Vita game development and nothing of the kind is currently in production.
Ito's comments, made during a 4Gamerinterview translated by Dualshockers, chime with what PlayStation's Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida said back at E3.
"To be honest, I wouldn't say we will have big AAA Vita games from first party," Yoshida said, when asked why no big budget Vita titles were included in the company's E3 press conference trailer.
"We have so much amazing AAA content from third parties, we have to put lots of those smaller games, including our own, into the (E3) trailer."
Vita has found a niche as a platform supported by new indie releases and as a device that can be hooked up to PlayStation 4 and used for remote play.
But the handheld, despite Sony's best intentions, has never found much success as the home of big budget handheld games.

Sony has confirmed that £50 is being lopped off the price of PS4 in the UK today.
The machine’s new RRP is £299.99, as per the rumours earlier this week and in line with the discounted price of the Uncharted Collection bundle that Sony told MCV at the time was a “promotional price that will be available for a limited time”.
The price cut applies to the whole of Europe, where the RRP has now been reduced to €349.99. There are also new prices for Australia ($479.95), New Zealand ($569.95) and the United Arab Emirates (AED1399).
Said Sony today: “Since the launch of PS4 our aim has always been to provide players with the best gaming experiences at the best value, and we’ve been thrilled with the amount of players who have joined our world.
“We have some fantastic bundle offers for the holiday season. From limited edition consoles to some of the best games of the year – there’s something for everyone.”

PlayStation console owners can now add games they don’t yet own to a wishlist.
Titles added to this list can be set to two settings – Friends or No One. As of yet, it’s unclear how gamers will be able to share this with other users, or their friends. At the moment, consumers can only add games to their list.
It’s also only available on the web browser version of the store and not the on-console edition.
MCV has reached out to Sony to see whether wishlists will be coming to PSN Store on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita.

Sony has revealed that it has no first-party titles for its Vita handheld in development as the platform holder shifts resources to the PlayStation 4.
In an interview with Japanese games publication 4Gamer –translated by DualShockers, thanks – SCE’s SVP Masayasu Ito said that Sony isn’t developing any triple-A games for the handheld and is instead relying on third-party studios.
Meanwhile, SCE’s internal development resource is being focused on the PlayStation 4.
“At the beginning the PlayStation Vita did not resonate with age targets under 20, but now the situation is changing and the popularity with younger demographics is increasing. Minecraft: PlayStation Vita Edition has provided a boost.
"In addition to that, a variety of third-party games are also planned for the future, and in order to further accelerate that flow, we decided to release new colours for the Vita this fall.”
He continued: “Currently, first party studios have no titles in development for Vita. Since third parties are working very hard on Vita, SCE’s own strategy is to focus on PS4, which is a new platform.”
