Sony has revealed that it has no first-party titles for its Vita handheld in development as the platform holder shifts resources to the PlayStation 4.
In an interview with Japanese games publication 4Gamer –translated by DualShockers, thanks – SCE’s SVP Masayasu Ito said that Sony isn’t developing any triple-A games for the handheld and is instead relying on third-party studios.
Meanwhile, SCE’s internal development resource is being focused on the PlayStation 4.
“At the beginning the PlayStation Vita did not resonate with age targets under 20, but now the situation is changing and the popularity with younger demographics is increasing. Minecraft: PlayStation Vita Edition has provided a boost.
"In addition to that, a variety of third-party games are also planned for the future, and in order to further accelerate that flow, we decided to release new colours for the Vita this fall.”
He continued: “Currently, first party studios have no titles in development for Vita. Since third parties are working very hard on Vita, SCE’s own strategy is to focus on PS4, which is a new platform.”
