We remember the first time we saw the camera swoop in behind the ship in WipEout 2097 for the first time. "OMFG" were the words shouted from our young mouths.
The thunder cracks and the rain pours down as the realistically echoing robo-voice counts down from three to one. "GO" he says, the Prodigy music kicked in and we found ourselves in control of a technical masterpiece for that era of gaming.
11 years later and our PS3 is pumping out the slick high-res graphics of WipEout HD, and we know you want to see it. So we recorded a video of the Anulpha Pass track in full-screen for you to admire its silky smooth beauty.
Then we just couldn't resist getting out our old favourite and running them side-by-side, just for nostalgia's sake. Surprisingly, it's still bloody good to play, even after all these years.
The ships in WipEout HD definitely handle far tighter than in 2097 - they don't swing about as much, but there are actually certain little things that we prefer about the old game.
Wall collision is one of the main things. In the old game you can scrape the wall and lose relatively no speed at all, and the scraping sound made by your ship's body as it rubs the wall - the sound of you pushing your aircraft to the very edge of a bend at high speed - is strangely satisfying.
But in the new game, any contact with the wall at all, no matter how slight, slows your ship down to an almost instant halt - not very pleasing at all.
The music in 2097 is better, too, and the overall echoing atmosphere is still brilliant.
See them running side-by-side in the video.

EA's Army of Two, originally planned for a November release, has been delayed until early 2008.
"Army of Two has potential to become a lasting EA franchise -- so getting the first title right is essential," Frank Gibeau, head of EA Games, said in a statement.
The company said it needed time to "polish" the co-op shooter, which is being programmed for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter expected the game to earn approximately USD 54 million in revenue during EA's third quarter.
"It's an important game for them if they hope to establish it as a franchise," Pachter told Reuters.

Sony will continue to expand upon the media functions of the PS3. According to the report, "within a month, a software upgrade will improve the PS3's interface for music stored and played through the system." However, we don't have any further specifics. Patrick Seybold from SCEA emphasizes that "we haven't made any specific announcements on upcoming firmware." Could enhanced music be a part of the now-mystical 2.0 firmware update?

Sony Computer Entertainment introduces a new concept in trading card games with THE EYE OF JUDGMENT™ developed exclusively for PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system. Utilizing Hasbro® and its Wizards of the Coast subsidiary’s trading card expertise, the immense power of the PS3® system, and the PLAYSTATION®Eye, Sony’s groundbreaking next-generation USB camera for PS3, THE EYE OF JUDGMENT provides a visually stunning experience that adds a third dimension to the trading card game genre.
Developed by Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios, JAPAN Studio, THE EYE OF JUDGMENT presents a new style of gameplay where collectable trading cards, embedded with a CyberCode, are brought to life in the 3D game through use of the innovative PLAYSTATION Eye. Players compete by selecting a card and placing the coded card in front of the PLAYSTATION Eye for their respective creatures to come to life and battle on screen. Players take turns placing cards as they jostle for control; the winner is the first player to conquer five of the nine squares of the “9 Fields” battle mat. The gamers task is to conquer the board by deploying their cards more skillfully than their opponent.
Players have four ways to play THE EYE OF JUDGMENT, single player against their PS3, against an opponent in two-player mode, against an opponent online, or letting the PS3 play out a round with the cards the player owns. News/release from pegasus2000:
This is an important news. The release of the next version of nd will arrive in few days, and it will be correlated with new applications and a better documentation for all developers.
In this time, you can try this version of Nanodesktop Blind Assistant 0.1.
Blind Assistant is a tecnology developed in Visilab Research Center of University of Messina - Italy, by Filippo Battaglia.
It is a program that uses PSP for help blind children or blind men. This program is able to recognizes the name of the people that are present in that moment in the room. In the future, we'll release more complex version of the program, with a better speed of recognition and with network support, and support for GPS and collision avoidance.
The program uses new tecnologies that will be available in nd 0.3.2, the next version of nd, as the engine of Vocal Synthesis ndFLite, developed by Carnegie Mellon University, the tecnology PentLand PCA EigenFaces developed by Intel (ndOpenCV libraries), the NanoC, the NanoTile accelerator and the EMI mathematical acceleration developed
by Filippo Battaglia.
The homebrew is available here:
http://rapidshare.com/files/64246242...POC01.zip.html
It is only a proof of concept of the program: some menu items don't work and it is normal. The speed is not optimized yet. It is only to understand
what the program is able to do.
If you want to use Blind Assistant, you have to download Eyeserver from Visilab website:
http://visilab.unime.it/~filippo/Nan...ver%20main.htm
Install Eyeserver on PC with a webcam (this is a temporaneus solution, we are working on GoCam support for PSP), and copy the driver
ndUsbDriver.Prx on your memory stick.
After, copy the directory BLINDASSISTANT that is in the zip BlindAssistant-POC01.zip in the root folder of the memory stick. Install also the application (EBOOT.PBP) in your PSP.
Remember that Blind Assistant requires a PSP-FAT with fw 1.50 or a FAT with CF and 1.50 emulation.
After, run Eyeserver on PC, connect a webcam to the PC and connect the PSP to a second USB port.
Start BlindAssistant. The BA-core will reconfigure automatically your memory stick. If it says that it is unable to connect with the camera, you can try to detach and after attach the PSP USB connect to PC,
and after you can choose Retry in the error wizard.
If it is all ok, you could see your image on the screen of PSP. Choose a slot. It will appear a wizard that will guide you in the training of the system. Blind Assistant needs 4 faces for person
to do a good analysis of the features of a face.
Try to do training with two people of your family: when you complete, Nanodesktop will generate the new vocal samples and it will register them on your memory stick. After, you'll hear EAS (Envelope Audio
Support) that executes these samples without using of CPU.
The PSP could be able to recognize where the people that are subjects of the trainings are in the room and it could say where are.
Remember that, if you stop the program and if you restart it, Nanodesktop will recall automatically all informations you have registered during the training phase.
Good, now I'll return to work with the next version of nd. You'll have other informations soon.
***
N.B. This version of Blind Assistant is released **ONLY** as proof-of-concept. With the next version of our site, we'll release an official version that is fully working
***
Thanks for the attention.

News/release from Califrag:
Webcam Client and Server Suite for the Sony PSP
I am proud to announce the release of the skyPSP Webcam Client and Server suite for the Sony PSP.
What is it?:
The skyPSP Webcam Suite is a pair of applications which transform your PSP into a mobile webcam studio.
These homebrew applications are written in C and do not use HTML or the PSP's web browser.
Server Application - Controls and Other Information:
The server application turns your PSP into a mobile webcam, using the GoCam!/ChottoShot camera for the Sony PSP.
FTP server and the GoCam!/ChottoShot camera ARE REQUIRED for the SERVER application.
Edit the skyPSP.cfg file and add your own ftp login information.
Run the program, it will connect to the first network.
Once it has connected to the network, it will prompt you to connect the camera and press X.
Upon doing so your memory stick and wlan LEDs will flash wildly (saving the cam image, uploading it).
Visit your FTP via whatever url to your domain: the image will be saved as www.yourdomain.com/skyPSPcam.jpg
Video of Server Application:
Client Application - Controls and Other Information:
The client application allows you to view webcam streams on five of the seven continents, in over ten countries.
You DO NOT need an FTP server, or the GoCam!/ChottoShot camera for the CLIENT application.
Snapshots will be posted to my own FTP server and can be viewed at:
http://www.califrag.com/skypsp/
Holding the L button when the program starts will save EVERY image to the ms0:/PICTURE/skyPSP/ folder.
Otherwise, if you would like to save a picture, press R anytime to save a snapshot into the ms0:/PICTURE/snapshots/ folder.
The folders will automatically be created so don't worry about that.
If you set up the FTP server information in the .cfg file, the snapshots will automatically upload to your own server.
If not, you can view snapshots at:
http://www.califrag.com/skypsp/
Note that everyones snapshots will be posted here and you'll have to browse through them.
Press R Trigger to take a snapshot (as described above)
Left and Right will change to previous or next webcam
Up or Down will enable webcam auto-cycle which will either go to the next or previous webcam after each refresh.
Press Triangle to stop the webcam auto-cycle.
Press X to enable "Theatre Mode"
Press O to switch between grayscale and color mode.
After startup, pressing the L Trigger will toggle between 1 and 2 second refresh.

This uses pgeFont engine by Insert_Witty_Name, which I've modified slightly (and released the modified source at psp-programming).
The graphics aren't polished as this is a BUILD 1 (alpha) release.
Also, due to the varying nature of the internet, when a webcam goes down and does not post images, it will cause the program the crash when you try to access that camera. Just wait and try it again later or on a different day. Unfortunately webcams aren't maintained as regularly as they should be.
Any webcams with images larger than 640x480 will crash the PSP. I plan to fix this and add scaling to future releases.
Please let me know if you have any troubles connecting to your networks
It will only connect to the first access point in the list.
Any questions please comment here or send any questions or comments to skypsp@califrag.com.
EDIT:
I've also attached an updated EBOOT for anybody experiencing issues with the network connection.
It bypasses the sceUtilityCheckNetParam() calls which check to make sure a network even exists in the configuration.
This should solve some issues, but may open more up, as if you do not have any connections in your list, it will still try to connect and will ultimately fail.
I've also increased the timeout from a 5s timeout between connection states to 10s.
Please let me know if this helps solve any issues.

On 10 October Sony introduced the £299 40 GB PS3 and simultaneously dropped the price of the 60 GB model to £349. Almost immediately sales rose, by nearly 178 per cent according to figures from Chart reported by MCV.
The influx of new PS3 owners had an effect on game sales too, with three exclusive games - Heavenly Sword, MotorStorm and Resistance: Fall Of Man - storming back up the charts.
More PS3 were sold last week than at any time since two weeks after launch, MCV said. That's quite a turnaround for a console that a month ago had its worst sales week ever.

Despite the FIFA Street series only receiving a mediocre reception to date EA has chosen to plough ahead and deliver a third game in the football-for-rude-boys series.
A first trailer from FIFA Street 3 is viewable now in our video player on the right. Watch in awe - or, like us, in our chairs - as Ronaldinho pulls off some ball tricks and, for some reason, a bit of dancing. It also shows the new art style for the sequel.
FIFA Street's all about over-exaggerated tricks and non-realism in five-a-side footie on the, er, streets. The new game is supposed to feature a revised control system making it easier to pull off OTT moves.
We'll have a hands-on report with you soon.
FIFA Street 3 is in development for Xbox 360 and PS3.

Sony has revealed details of two patches it's working on for the popular multiplayer PS3 airborne shooter, Warhawk.
According game director Dylan Jobe, "We've been working on a lot of fixes, server-side updates and client patches. Because let's face it, while the team and I were really happy with our launch and players around the globe were having a blast playing, there were some problems that players encountered once we rolled the game out to the masses (stats, connection issues, etc). I'm not going to sugar coat that with a strawberry-flavored, pink, PR candy shell - it's the truth.
"All of that said, we've been hard at work to address the big issues that our Warhawk community currently is experiencing. We have already addressed the majority of our stats-related issues with the deployment of a few server-side updates. These were updates that we rolled out 'on our end' without any of the players having to download an actual Warhawk patch. These updates also fixed many of the connection issues. But not all."
Remaining updates will be delivered as a downloadable patch. "The first update, the v1.1 patch, addresses the critical issues with stats and connectivity. Those two points were the focus of this patch and while they may seem small, they had a huge impact on our player base," explained Jobe.
This should be around by the end of October.

According to Take Two a former employee of Sony Europe has admitted to leaking out a beta test version of Mahunt 2 for the PS2 to allow the world of pirates the chance to try out the game.
The man is a former employee of Sony Europe only because he has since been fired since getting caught in the act.
Take Two did not reveal many details about the man or what had happened but they did state that the man has been let go from Sony Europe. There will likely be consequences as this could warrant a fine or even jail time since it is technically stealing.
The employee has stated that he knows that he is responsible for the unauthorized online distribution of the beta test version of Mahhunt 2 for the PAL PS2.
In all fairness though he may have just been trying to get the game out so people who it may be banned for still could play it.

Jeetil Patel, analyst for Deutsche Bank, has claimed that the most successful console the world has ever seen, the PS2, could be finally approaching the end of its days following the publication of NPD’s September sales figures for the US.
GameDaily quotes Patel as saying: “PlayStation 2 software sales fell 47 per cent year-on-year to $85 million, representing a deceleration from the 33 per cent year-on-year decline last month.
While this substantial decline was inevitable, it is currently unclear whether the drop reflects consumer transition to next-gen software or weak spending patterns amongst the low-end consumer. Needless to say, with tougher comps ahead for PS2 software sales, we think that the PS2 may finally be on its way out of the industry for good.”

Ok, so you want to unbrick or downgrade your PSP but don't have a PSP capable of running homebrew apps. No problem! In this tutorial I will show you how to modify the battery's hardware to make it activate service mode.
This is our victim. Please note that while this concept may work on non-Sony batteries, only official batteries are guaranteed to have the same internals, so we recommend using one.
STEP 1:
The first thing you need to do is obviously crack open the battery. Surprisingly, the battery isn't very hard to get in to. In this picture you can see that I'm just using a guitar pick to slide in through an edge and slide around the perimeter of the battery to seperate the two halves.
STEP 2:
Next, we need to locate a certain chip. The chip has the model number S93C56 printed on it. We are going to need to desolder pin 5 and lift it off of the board. Here is a magnified view of the board, which shows where the chip is and which pin needs to be lifted.
Newer batteries have a much smaller board with a different layout. The same chip needs to have the pin lifted, but the chip is in a different position. Once you've located chip S93C56, the rest of the instructions are basically the same. This has been confirmed with the 2200 mAH Official Sony battery.
STEP 3:
If you are not confident in your soldering skills, have a less than steady hand or have a larger-than-optimal sized tip, please desolder the cell pack from the battery first. If you make contact between pins 5 and 6 then you will short ground to +3.6VDC! Not good! When desoldering the cell, only keep the iron on long enough to melt the solder. If you can, use a higher wattage iron so that the tip will be hotter, but you won't transfer as much heat to the cell pack. Remember that heat + Li-Ion battery = large explosion (t3h sux0r5, unless you get in on video. Seriously though, this operation is not for the faint hearted, and should definitely not be your first soldering experience. I recommend trying your hand on lifting the pins on an N64 CPU chip. Surely if you spend enough time here you have a couple killed N64 mobos laying around. )
Now is actually desoldering the pin. There are a few ways you could do this, but I think my method is the best because its less likely to damage components near by. Use an Xacto knife with a sharp tip and try to put it underneath the pin. Get somebody to hold a soldering iron (WITH A VERY FINE CONICAL TIP!) on the pin. When the solder melts you can pop the pin up with the knife. Be sure not to hold the iron on the board too long to avoid the lithium battery from getting too hot and exploding. When your done it will look something like this.
STEP 4:
Finally, close the battery's casing. Use some Krazy Glue to keep it closed, or just use electrical tape around the edges like I did. I don't actually recommend the electrical tape as it makes the battery very snug in the compartment and it takes a bit of force to get it out. You can use the battery just like a regular Pandora's battery. As for getting the Memory Stick files, I can tell you that they are out there and you can find them after a bit of Googling. However, I can't tell you exactly where to find them as they contain copyrighted Sony code, and sharing them is illegal.
How does this work?
The pin that we just lifted was actually the ground pin of the EEPROM. Removing this pin effectively shuts off the EEPROM. When the microcontroller inside the battery tries to read the EEPROM, it will think the EEPROM contains all 1s (in binary). This is because of the pull-up resistors on the data lines. So the microcontroller returns a serial number of 0xFFFFFFFF to the PSP, which then goes into service mode.
Thank you for reading this, and if you have any questions, make sure to post and I'll try to help you!

I myself prefer the original option to this but each to their own

News/release from Raphael:
This release adds a DPad/Analog swap function on popular request as well as provides a fix for analog sticks that completely deny to respond in one or two directions, which is caused by the stick returning too small values even when pulled to the extremes. You now also can change the configuration for the primary plugin button, which was hardcoded to the NOTE button till now. The download also includes a 3.71 compatible (and only!) version of the plugin, so make sure you use the correct one. For 3.71 with 1.5 kernel patch you need both versions actually to make the plugin work in 1.5 homebrew - see the readme for instructions.
PS: I also started writing a FAQ.txt so if you have any questions, be sure to read that FIRST!
