Following a price cut to the existing 60GB PS3 from £425 to £350, and the introduction to market of a 40GB PS3 for £299, Sony's next-gen console has enjoyed it's third best weekly hardware sales since launching in the UK in March, reports MCV.
According to sales data monitor Chart Track, week-on-week PS3 hardware sales rose by 178 percent. While individual unit sales were not announced, the weekly sales total is the highest since the first two weeks following the console's launch.

Ah, Target. The home of so many broken street dates. Just days after letting the Xbox 360 Arcade slip out of its doors early, the retailer is apparently proving that the 40GB PlayStation 3 is indeed coming to America -- and for $399.99, no less. Reportedly, the system is all set to "officially" be released here on October 28th, and while we've no way of confirming, we're hearing that it may be bundled with the upcoming Spider-Man 3 flick, too.

It's been a while since we've had a bit of (supposed) GTA IV leakage, but now US site GamerNode has piped up with new details apparently originating at a PlayStation event in Toronto.
The PlayStation Holiday Preview Event (as they're calling it) apparently had Rockstar drop a few more GTA details while showcasing Manhunt 2 to Canadian punters.
Supposedly Rockstar is aiming for support for up to 16 players in the fourth instalment's online multiplayer mode, which should excite anyone who's played the excellent wi-fi deathmatch in any of the PSP versions.
Supposedly the developer has also been busy testing various plots and even considered having the entire game world unlocked from the beginning. But that goes against the series' tradition of having you unlock districts through story progression.
Rockstar wasn't able to comment on the info when we picked up the phone, but we reckon it's probably safe to assume there'll be an ample number of players supported in GTA IV anyway. It's out in Q1, if you'd forgotten.

Hi!
I'm here to release LightMP3 version 1.6.0 BETA.
Why beta?
Because I tested this version only a little, and there are some issues still to solve (like the problem with the USB connection)...
Now the app is compiled for kernel 3.xx (doesen't work under 3.71, next version will) and you have to install it in the directory PSP/GAME3xx
Here's the changelog:
-Added: LightMP3 is now a 3.xx application (install it in PSP/GAME3XX directory)
-Added: support to OGG Vorbis file (with streaming, so no filesize-related problems)
OGG Vorbis has fast forward and rewind
Note: the equalizer won't work with OGG Vorbis file.
OGG Vorbis works fine with CPU @ 50Mhz
-Added: Now supports 8khz, 11khz, 12khz, 16khz, 22khz, 24khz, 32khz, 44khz, 48khz (both MP3 and OGG Vorbis)
(many thanks to crazyc!)
-Added: "Repeat track" mode (old "Repeat" becomes "Repeat all")
-Fixed: volume up and down with remote controller didn't update volume bar.
-Fixed: display brightness is restored when you quit.
You can download it here: http://sakya.altervista.org/new/inde...=none_lightmp3
The USB connection problem
I'm experiencing problems loading some prx from flash0 (if someone has some hint about this please tell me).
To bypass this problem you have to manually copy two prx from your flash0 to the LightMP3's directory.
The prx are:
flash0:/kd/usbstorms.prx
flash0:/kd/usbstorboot.prx
If you don't use USB connection in LightMP3 you can skip this passage (USB connection won't work)
Comments, suggestion and bugreport are welcome.
Many thanks to:
cracyz for the pspaudiolib patch

Sony is still working on plans to distribute music and video via the PlayStation Network, with a possibility of such efforts coming to fruition early next year.
Speaking in an interview with The Financial Times, Sony chief executive Sir Howard Stringer talked about building a software infrastructure to distribute video and music.
"That is a Japanese and American combined effort to build a platform around a common software architecture to distribute video via the PlayStation Network into the [PSP handhelds] and beyond," he said.
"We are trying to get our devices to talk to each other efficiently. PlayStation Network should migrate from gadget to gadget. But initially it starts with PlayStation devices and then to TV and beyond. That's the goal."
While no specific dates were announced, Stringer did say "We won't know how effective [the effort] is until early next year."
Sony has already announced a television tuner and recorder device, as well as PSP video/voice chat software, for the UK and some European markets.
Microsoft launched a video download marketplace via Xbox Live in the US in November 2006.

A Game of the Year Edition of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion for PS3 finally allows owners of Sony's console to romp around in expansion pack Shivering Isles.
The GOTY version additionally features previously released download content Knights of the Nine.
However, for some reason the recently released content Fighter's Stronghold - available now for PC and Xbox 360 Oblivion, and a 10.3MB file - has not been included.
Maybe it'll appear in the Game of Next Year Edition. Badumtish.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition is out for PS3 in December.

PlayStation 3 hardware sales jumped 178 per cent last week with the introduction of two new SKUs, helping the system record its third highest week since launch in the UK.
Data supplied to GamesIndustry.biz reveals that although Sony's console enjoyed a considerable sales boost, Nintendo's DS was still the best-selling hardware system in the UK, followed by the Wii and then the PS3, with the Xbox 360 behind its home console rival.
Two new PS3 models were introduced to market last Wednesday. A 40GB model with less functions has gone on sale for GBP 299, and the 60GB model has been reduced to GBP 349, bundled with two free first-party games.
PS3 software has also enjoyed a resurgence, with Resistance: Fall of Man climbing the all-formats charts from 22 to eight, Heavenly Sword re-entering the top 40 at number 14, MotorStorm moving from 22 to 18, and Formula 1: Championship Edition also back in the official charts at number 24.

Much like pulling fish out of the water with a fishing pole, the PLAYSTATION? SIXAXIS?wireless controller lets players literally “shake?their enemies into submission and “yank?their powers from them.

We hate to bring the internet's game of conclusion hopscotch to an end, but the rain of truth threatens to wash those chalk outlines away and... we're not really sure what we thinking with that opening. Regardless, a Sony representative has told us that, despite internet murmurs latching onto the "Version 2.0" nomenclature, the recent update to the PSN End User License Agreement has no "bearing or affiliation with any future firmware upgrades." If the fabled Firmware 2.0 does somehow show up at the end of the month, coincidence will apparently be the one to blame.
Going into effect on October 30th, the updated EULA (probably not pronounced "EWW-LAH") is merely paving the legal way for upcoming PSN functionality, Home features and upcoming games that might tempt players to share online content considered "racially, ethnically, religiously, or sexually offensive, libelous, defaming, threatening, bullying or stalking."

Publisher SouthPeak Games has announced development of a new racing title for PlayStation 2, titled Iridium Runners.
The game is being developed by Playstos Entertainment, and takes place in the year 2050, where players compete in a series of sponsored, futuristic on-foot races in the appropriately named Iridium Championship.
Gamers will be able to employ a variety of weapons and other collectibles to aid them in their quest for pole position, as you race around what the developers are touting as a series of “inventive” tracks. Featured game modes include championship and single player races, in addition to full split screen multiplayer functionality.
SouthPeak Games Vice President Melanie Mroz, commented, “Iridium Runners is another example of the fun, distinctive and unique titles that we look to publish. The PlayStation 2 market is still thriving and Iridium Runners will represent great value for money, thanks in no small part to the team at Playstos.”
Luca Da Rios, CEO and Executive Producer of Playstos Entertainment added, “It’s fantastic to be working with the team at SouthPeak Games on Iridium Runners. Their dedication and enthusiasm matches ours and together, I’m confident that we’ll see Iridium Runners become a success in the wide range of territories that SouthPeak reaches”.
Iridium Runners is due out on PlayStation 2 in February 2008.
