News/release from poedel
primary it was not intended for public use, but some of my german pals wanted to have it. No problem indeed, but it currently in german language. If there is demand internationally I will surely make a translation. That so far.
What it does:
you got 4 counters in the shape of a rhombus like the keys /\ [] O X on your psp. These keys start and stop the corresponding counter. With the L & R trigger you choose clockwise or vice versa the rotation direction of the selector, a light grey rectangle around the timer.
The one you choose you can set with the direction keys on your digipad:
left is the hour, up is the minute and right are the seconds. It always counts one up until you change the direction by pressing start. To reset the counter to zero simply press down on your digipad.
Pressing O X [] or /\ will start or stop the counter. If you stop a counter when reaching of before time limit it will be reset to the values you entered before starting.
Reaching zero makes an alarm with audio, a wave file and visually by letting the box behind the counter flash up to let you recognize easily which counter is ringing.
The Counter itself is coloured corresponding to its status:
white - not set
yell0w - set, but on stand-by
green - counting
red - reached time limit and alarming
The sounds are delivered in a second archive, so you do not have to download them each time again, if there is an update.
Sorry for the gentoo linux´er to make tar.gz archives *G*
Windows users can simply deflate them with winrar.
The ingridients have to be copied to /psp/game/ you should know, I suppose.
Also the sounds. You can try your own sounds, but they have to be in a special format I do not quite know, but mine do work.
Here the two downloads:
mc102 - http://psp.force-net.de/dl/mc/mc102.tar.gz
Soundfiles - http://psp.force-net.de/dl/mc/mc-sounds.tar.gz
Thanx for tryin´.

November 16th, 2009, 21:39 Posted By: wraggster
The great Xbox 360 banning recently continued by Microsoft brings me to an unusual conundrum. I desperately want to play the latest first-person shooter, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which is available for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. Being an avowed Mac person, having a PC is out of the question (I don't want to fight off viruses all the time!!!), and I took my Windows partition off my Mac (courtesy of Apple's Bootcamp) once I finished playing Left4Dead.
The first alternative for me was the Xbox, which, despite being made by the Evil Empire (my ire against Bill Gates professionally goes way back, although personally I think he's a nice guy, thanks to his foundation), it is a great gaming machine, and is targeted for guys like me (first-generation gamer, hardcore and FPS tactical sniper).
The Xbox Live component is also pretty popular despite the fact that the console is NOT OFFICIALLY SOLD in Indonesia. Xbox Live allows players to play against each other over the Internet, which brings the game to a new level, thanks to the unpredictable human mind in a crisis situation.
Alas, now that many Xbox consoles in Indonesia have been banned, a chilling effect came over me just as I was about to make my first foray into next-generation console gaming (I still have a PS2 from ages ago). As most, if not all, the Xbox 360 consoles in Indonesia are parallel imports or unofficial gray market products, practically all of them are "mod chipped", which allows people to purchase and use bootleg/pirated games. In fact, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was out long before the official US release here in Jakarta--I saw one myself a few days before launch.
The only way to get an official and potentially non-banned console would be to handcarry it from Singapore (which can bring on other issues, especially with customs).
So who might be the winners here? Interestingly enough, it could be the PS3. Despite Indonesia's rampant software piracy, Sony a few months back officially launched the PSP Slim and the PS3 to the Indonesian market. Thus, gamers can officially buy the console and games locally, which is probably helped by the fact that the PS3 is one of the harder consoles to mod (or crack).
Plus, Modern Warfare 2 is also available on the PS3. Price-wise, the console is slightly more expensive and the games must all be "oris" or originals that follow the US pricing (which annoys many gamers who wonder why brands never offer "local" rates in line with the market).
What to do? I am sure many Indonesians would gladly pay original game prices to play online. Besides, we have a pretty large market, too... much larger than Singapore, which amazingly is a pretty Xbox-heavy place. So will Sony win here in Indonesia?
Tell you after I buy one of the two...

While rumours swirl that Grand Theft Auto V is already in development and Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick cries if anyone mentions it, a new interview with Rockstar's Dan Houser suggests it's still a way off.
"We'll think of a city first, then the characters," Houser told The Times in an interview published on Friday (thanks Kotaku).
The author of the article says that the script will be 1000 pages, but it's not clear whether Houser himself said that.
There's also a bit more in there about the anonymous man behind the games, who founded Rockstar with his older brother Sam. For instance, The Times pointed out that some people reckon the keeping-quiet thing is about cultivating an image.
"I've read that about myself, but it's a myth. I often speak to people like yourself," Houser replied. (You never speak to us, Dan. Sniff.) "But me, Sam and Leslie [Benzies, producer] are very aware of the fact that we as a triumvirate do not make the games; 200, 300, 700 people make the games. It's easy for people to focus on individuals because that's an easier story to tell, but it's not relevant to what we do."
"We've got, you know, 100 plus people, at least 80 per cent of whom are far more intelligent than me, and to start saying it's me or Sam or the pair of us because we're such crazy brothers just seems stupid. And it's not fair or appropriate," he added.
Houser's most recent work is showcased in Episodes From Liberty City for Xbox 360, which consists of The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony.

In arguably today's most unusual story, federal officers have reportedly admitted to using PS3 consoles to crack the passwords of tech-savvy child pornographers, who are encrypting all their dodgy content.
Although US special agents have the power to seize and search computers, it's against the Fourth Amendment for them to force suspects to give up their passwords. So they turn to the PS3's almighty processing power, where they can use its chip to literally fly through millions of password permutations in a second.
The result is a surprisingly quick(ish) game of trial and error - considering there are some 282-trillion permutations for a six-digit password!
Of course, the other advantage of the PS3 over other next-gen console is that users can install the Linux operating system to aid them with their task. At least they could on the older systems...
"The newer PS3s have been restricted, locked down, so you can't put Linux on them," revealed Neil Condon of Public Affairs to Axcess News.
So what do the Feds do? They turn to eBay to stock up on older machines. (Minus game controllers and copies of Modern Warfare 2, LittleBigPlanet and SingStar Take That, of course)...

Konami has announced the arrival of Metal Gear Solid on the PlayStation Store this Thursday, 19th November.
It was this PSone game that took the series 3D and established Hideo Kojima's creations as some of the best in the world. Metal Gear Solid will cost £7.99.
Following Metal Gear Solid will be MGS: Portable Ops, MGS: Portable: Ops+ and MGS: Digital Graphic Novel.
The idea is for Konami to build some serious Metal Gear Solid momentum ahead of MGS: Peace Walker's release sometime next year.
That PSP game, remember, is being overseen by Hideo Kojima himself, and has, among other things, four-player co-op.

ony has announced that game service adhoc Party is to launch in Europe, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand, allowing some PSP titles with Ad Hoc multiplayer modes to be played online.
A beta version of the service was launched in Japan last November and uses the PlayStation 3's wi-fi adapter to essentially turn the home console into a server for the PSP. Although the PSP must remain within range of the PS3's wi-fi connection, compatible games can be used to play online opponents worldwide.
Since the software will be free to download from the PlayStation Store the only requirements for use is a wired broadband connection. Once online the software allows access to "houses" where users can chat via voice and text before playing a game. The service is divided into 10 "worlds" made up of 64 lobbies, in which up to 32 user avatars can chat and play.
The service's launch in PAL regions will enable the use of the service with games including Gran Turismo, Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, Dissidia: Final Fantasy and Resistance: Retribution.
A post on the official PlayStation Blog indicates that more titles will be announced nearer to release, although this is specified only as "soon".

Activision executive Tom Tippl has said there are plans to charge Call of Duty users for online features in future.
"It's definitely an aspiration that we see potential in, particularly as we look at different business models to monetise the online gameplay," Tippl said during a business conference (as reported by Eurogamer, via IGN). "There's good knowledge exchange happening between the Blizzard folks and our online guys."
"We have great experience also on Call of Duty with the success we had on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network. A lot of that knowledge is getting actually built into the Battle.Net platform and the design of that," he continued.
"I think it's been mutually beneficial, and you should expect us to test and ultimately launch additional online monetisation models of some of some of our biggest franchises like Call of Duty."
And Tippl isn't concerned COD fans will object to having to pay for additional features, adding: "Our gamers are telling us there's lots of services and innovation they would like to see that they're not getting yet."
"From what we see so far, additional content, as well as all the services Blizzard is offering, is that there is demand from the core gamers to pay up for that."

Updated release from PixelDragon
Hi Everyone
Back again with the latest update to PSPedict, now at V0.3.
The biggest change is the inclusion of Tanaka Corpus example sentences.
There are example sentences for approximately 20,500 unique words.
As the Tanaka Corpus is considered a work in progress, included with the
download is a Windows application called "EdictUpdate" which can be
used to update the example sentences in the EDICT files. Further
instructions on how to use this tool can be found by clicking the "About"
button when the application is open. The EDICT files in the download
have already been updated. I have only tested the application on Vista.
A quick disclaimer regarding the example sentences. Please do not expect
each sentence to be a perfect match. Sometimes the sense of the word
is not correct, and other times the Japanese or English sentence may
contian errors. They should only be used as a rough guide or for context.

After fan outcry over ads that were patched into Wipeout HD (after it was already purchased, ad-free), Sony removed them. Now, Sony has quietly added them back in with patch 2.10: 'The 2.10 Update makes some small improvements to front-end functionality and addresses some minor issues with the audio. In addition, small issues that could affect gameplay or scores in the Eliminator and Detonator game modes have also been corrected. Changes have also been made so that any adverts shown during loading screens will not adversely affect the loading times of the title. As many of you know, the functionality to display adverts during loading screens was first introduced in the 2.0 Update and originally didn't function as intended, leading to extended loading times in some areas of the game. This issue has now been resolved and we understand that a new advertising campaign in Wipeout HD is expected to launch across a number of European territories soon (no word yet on what is happening in North America). In the meantime, a range of PlayStation-specific ads will be making an appearance in the coming days.'

One of the very best features of PlayStation family products (PS3 and PSP) is the ability to update the system firmware via downloadable patches. Had this main feature not been included, we’d be stuck with the same feature set that each system launched with, and when compared to the robust feature set we have now, that’s not much.
Over the years many firmware updates have come and gone. Some significant, some not so much. Have you ever wondered how Sony plans the release of any new features included with each firmware update? Eric Lempel explains how…
In a recent interview with PlayStation: The Official Magazine in the Holiday 09 issue (issue number 027), Eric Lempel spills the beans on how Firmware update features are planned and released for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable:
“We go about doing that in a few different ways. We do consumer research in addition to following our roadmap. We’ve had a very had a very long roadmap that we’ve wanted to roll out, and clearly all of them couldn’t be rolled out day one when the PS3 launched. So we’ve been implementing these features as we go along and some of them, and some of them take longer than others.”
Lempel continued:
“Of course time and manpower always factor in because there aren’t limitless resources. And are sometimes key features that must go out in Firmware updates. For example, you saw on September 1, we released a 120GB PS3 and we did a Firmware update, and there were some enhancements in that specifically to bring on the new hardware.”
The director of the PlayStation Network further explained:
“We absolutely read all the feedback that we see on our blog when we do firmware updates. We have people who look across different forums and different sites. And we also do our own testing – some very extensive testing..”
“But in some cases, we can’t do complete testing because you never quite know how things will work until users have it.”
When asked the question that’s on every PS3 owners mind, on the long awaited cross-game voice chat feature Lempel has this to say:
“I think it’s incredibly popular. We know users want it, and like lots of other things that work cross-games, technically, it’s complicated. But it’s definitely something we’re looking at.”
If you want to read the full interview, pick up issue 027 of PlayStation: The Official Magazine at newsstands now.

A Florida teenager says he was kidnapped at gunpoint, driven to a Walmart and forced to buy his captors a PlayStation 3 for the new super-low price of $299.99. Cops have arrested one suspect.
The Naples, Fla. teen says two guys in a white pickup truck blocked his car as he tried to enter a gated community where his friend lives. Two guys, one with an assault rifle, the other with a pistol, jumped out, drove him to his stepfather's home in another gated community to steal some jewelry. Then it was off to Walmart with stepdad's credit card.
There, the victim says one of his captors demanded he buy him a shotgun. But it being past 8:30, the gun counter was closed. So the bandits said they'd settle for a PS3 Slim, which the victim bought. They then set him free, and he went running to the law.
Yeah, there's been one arrest, and it sounds like there's surveillance footage, but let's show a little skepticism here. If this is true, two dudes just went to a hell of a lot of trouble and are facing a whale of a stay in the joint to pull off the heist of a lifetime - a PS3 - before turning loose their rich captive. Kidnapping, plus a gun crime doesn't just get pled down to loud muffler and disorderly conduct because you netted $300 in merch. Plus there's the matter of the suspect's fingerprints not being found inside the house.
That doesn't stop WBBH-TV. Be sure to watch that video. I don't know East Naples or Immokalee from Muncie, Indiana but it sounds like the reporter's reminding us both places are the H-double-O-D hood. And remember, "Jane," (if that's your real name) you're not safe anywhere, even behind rich people gates. Another shining example of local news teaching you to hate and fear your world.
