Seth Gordon, the man behind The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters, is the latest director in talks to helm the Uncharted movie. Deadline reported on Tuesday that production company Arad/Atlas Entertainment brought Gordon on to direct a new script from David Guggenheim.
Gordon has three non-documentary films to his credit, none of which are action films in the vein of Uncharted. Horrible Bosses was well-received enough to earn a sequel, but Four Christmases and last year's Identity Thiefsport Rotten Tomatoes ratings of 19 percent and 25 percent, respectively. Guggenheim's most recent credits include Safe House, the Ryan Reynolds and Denzel Washington flop, and Stolen, the Nicholas Cage-fueled Taken clone.
The Uncharted movie has had strong talent attached in the past. David O. Russell, the man behind Silver Linings Playbook and American Hustle, signed on to direct a version starring his regular collaborator Mark Wahlberg back in 2010, but abandoned the movie by 2011. In the years since, the film's hopped between multiple writers and directors. Neil Burger, director of Bradley Cooper thriller Limitless, took over then dropped out before scriptwriting duties shuffled to Marianne and Cormac Wibberley, the writing duo behind National Treasure.
Producer Avi Arad has plans for more than one video game adaptation: He is also working with Kojima Productions on a Metal Gear Solid movie.
