Team Ico boss Fumito Ueda has announced that The Last Guardian has been delayed.
Wait, the disappointment doesn't end there; the much anticipated HD re-release of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus has also been knocked back.
Ueda's holding back on announcing new dates for both the HD collection and The Last Guardian but with the latter originally scheduled for a release some time around the end of the year it's likely that we won't see it until 2012.
The developer did, at least, post an apology on the EU PlayStation blog, saying that the delay will mean a better quality product. Fair play:
"I announced at last year's Tokyo Game Show that the release timing of The Last Guardian which is currently being developed would be holiday 2011.
However, to provide more challenging and better quality of content to users and to fulfill First Party Studio's obligations, I decided to postpone its release timing.
All the members of my production team are working together at a fast pace to develop and release the game in First Party Studio quality.
I sincerely apologize to all the customers who have been waiting for "The Last Guardian" for so long, but I beg for your patience. I will also announce the new release timing at a later time.
Although not a major blip on the mainstream radar, The Last Guardian is perhaps one of the most anticipated games among PlayStation 3 fans.
Last month Ueda said the title was pushing the PlayStation 3 to its limit. We've heard it time and again but, with the way The Last Guardian is looking, we're inclined to believe him.
