Sony has pledged to reveal its 'release plans for PS4' at its pre-Gamescom media briefing on August 20.
The company has said via its official site that the show will contain 'updates on PS3 and Vita', alongside information on the much-anticipated launch of its next-gen console.
Sony's press briefing will take place at the Saatenhaus am Rheinpark in Cologne, starting at 7pm CET (6pm UK) on August 20. Microsoft will host its press conference on the same day, and it will be critical for both firms to impress, with the expected arrivals of Xbox One and PS4 looming ever closer.
As it stands, Sony's official word on the PS4 launch is a vague 'holiday 2013', although it's widely expected to go head-to-head with the Xbox One in November.
Two notable European retailers listed the PS4 release date as November 13, 2013, before Sony deemed the listings as 'purely speculative'.
Industry analysts have deemed it in both firms' best interest to launch first in order to grab an early spotlight over the competitor.
The Gamescom expo runs from August 21 - 25. The first day will be industry only, before doors open to the public on Aug. 22.
