Yet another report pointing to an imminent PlayStation 4 reveal is up in lights this morning, claiming that Sony Computer Entertainment is going to follow up its 2006 PS3 launch with a brand new console, to be shown for the first time at this year's E3.
What's Sony's official word on PlayStation 4? Well, as of a month ago, it denied all knowledge of the rumoured next-generation machine. In an upcoming interview on the development of the PlayStation Vita (read our PS Vita review), we quizzed Sony's Worldwide Studios president, Shuhei Yoshida on the PlayStation 4 and he laughed: "I don't know what you are talking about."
The man ultimately in charge of Sony's in-house development added, "We are still very excited by the PlayStation 3."
The other thing Sony's excited about of course is its impressive new handheld, which hits North America and Europe next month.
In the interview, Yoshida talks frankly about how Sony has changed its development processes to ensure a steady supply of games for Vita, hints at unseen elements of its Cross-play and Augmented Reality features, and discusses how the software teams got involved in its design. It's a good one.
Late last year, SCEE president Jim Ryan stated that allowing Microsoft to get the jump on the PlayStation 4 with its next console would be an "undesirable" situation for Sony.
Look out for the full interview with Sony's Worldwide Studios president, Shuhei Yoshida, in the next few days.
