Obsidian has announced it has entered into a partnership with Paradox Interactive to launch its upcoming RPG Pillars Of Eternity.
Paradox will handle the marketing and distribution responsibilities for the game, allowing Obsidian to concentrate on its development.
The game's original Kickstarter page assured its backers that Obsidian would not team up with a publisher to release the game: "We don't have to make compromises with a publisher," it said, "we make the development decisions, we market the game, and we don't have to answer to anyone but you: our fans."
In order to satisfy backers' potential concerns regarding this new deal, Obsidian has set up an FAQ page detailing exactly what the agreement means.
"By handing off duties not related to development, Obsidian can focus on making the game that much better," the FAQ reads. "We truly believe this is for the good of the game and, by extension, for the good of the community.
"Obsidian is still fully in charge of development and will continue to be so all the way through launch and beyond."
It also assures funders that all Kickstarter backer rewards, be they digital or physical, will be delivered as promised.
Pillars Of Eternity was first revealed in 2012 as Project Eternity, an isometric party-based RPG paying homage to the likes of Baldur's Gate and Planescape: Torment.
With an initial target of $1.1 million, the game broke Kickstarter recordsby raising nearly $4 million.
It was officially renamed Pillars Of Eternity in October last year, and will be released on PC and Mac later in 2014.
