After seven months and several content drops, Sony Santa Monica has announced it has ceased development of download content for God of War: Ascension.
Community strategist Aaron Kaufman explained in a statement that today marks the end of work on DLC for the March-released game, as the studio's "primary team" begin its transition to "other projects".
"Since the release of God of War: Ascension last March, we have supported Multiplayer with a vast amount of DLC - from new weapons and maps, to our brutal 1v1 mode, a fan-driven cape contest, new marks, and more," said Kaufman. "Even the Gods could not have predicted the level of popularity and impassioned connection to our Multiplayer mode driven by the PlayStation Nation."
God of War 2 writer and director Corey Barlog recently returned to Sony Santa Monica, six years after leaving the studio.
The director has confirmed work on a mystery new project at the studio, for which he is "putting together a team", but held off revealing specifics on the game.
Ascension players can, however, expect one more title update, with the team "currently working on balance improvements that will tune-up all the Allegiances," explains Kaufman. The update is targeted for release this month.
God of War: Ascension will also be released in digital form via the PlayStation Store on October 15 in US, he went on to confirm. Other regions will "follow soon after". All DLC will also be discounted upon the digital version's release.
The God of War: Ascension Soundtrack will be made available as a free download for all on PSN for a limited time only - details yet to be confirmed.
And finally the game will host a Double XP Weekend from October 18 to October 21 worldwide.
