If you have a Japanese PSN account you can download Final Fantasy II. The PsOne remake is available on the PlayStation Store for 800 yen ($9).
Final Fantasy II tells the story of four orphans that are wiped out by Black Knights in the game’s opening sequence. The team, minus Leon, awaken in Fynn and join the resistance against the Emperor.
While Final Fantasy II is often thought as black sheep of the Final Fantasy series it introduced elements like a rich story (for a NES game!), transient party members, dragoons and evil empires.
The PsOne version has new sprites, which are from the Wonderswan release and FMV sequences. It’s missing the Soul of Rebirth dungeon in the GBA version and the extra Arcane dungeons from the PSP remake. On the plus side you can abuse the canceling bug and blaze through the game.
Gaia Seed, a side scrolling shmup, and Deron Dero Dero, a Puyo Puyo style puzzle game from Tecmo, are the other PsOne games out this week.
